Georgia St. is making Big12 folk a little nervous right now.
Dukes candy land road to the final four just got easier
I think I just lost one of my final four. I can't check at work. It's ok though. I usually like seeing the upsets.
Good luck ya'll, you're gonna need it. I have my picks made, there's no way that any of you stand a chance.... of getting more picks wrong than me. I've got this wrapped up. BYU final four baby, all the way!!
As for a strictly economic question, I'd say they get their moneys worth. Most of our games are featured nationally, it really amazes me actually that down here in the bayou I don't miss any KU games. We're a talked about team, desired for the biggest tourneys, and generally in the stream of consciousness of all of our countries college hoops fans.
If it's March and April results I think someday we'll look back at KU basketball in these last two or three years and see all of the talent that has come through here and wonder how we were not in the FF every year.
I'll wait for the stuff to come out at Goodwill then I'll buy some!
The only thing that comforts me a little with the losses in '97, '02 and '03 is we lost to the national champion each time.
The '97 still stings. That team just rolled the competition. No Badball that year! I would put the Syracuse game on that list. We were way better than Syracuse in my opinion, except of course at Free throws.
Did you notice in the game last night Derrick Chievous' son playing? I looked him up, had a sad upbringing as his dad was largely absent. He kind of miraculously ended up at Notre Dame HS in Chicago's suburbs and thrived. Went to Tennessee, graduated in three years, but only played two and will have a 2nd year of eligibility as a grad student next year.
The improved defense certainly was noticed by me. And then in one horrible half against ISU it was gone. We'd have been the two seed somewhere else and with that a better possibility of the FF.
I think the fact Crean can't coach impacted his recruiting. His record against Bo and Izzo is woeful and lately, if you want to win in the Big1G, those are the ones you've got to beat.
But if we succumb to a 15 Friday we'll be subjected to the treatment that Duke and Missouri got several years ago when they lost within minutes of each other to 15's.
I can handle losing after at least getting to the round of 32. I mean it sucks, but you don't go down in infamy losing at that point.
Welcome back. My peace joy and love message from Monday night is spreading! See 'Where 2 or 3 Jayhawks are gathered' for my take on the same basic message.
I want to play Lil Tommy Crean and his hoosiers. We have a good history against him in the dance if you remember 2003.
Beating a team 70-30 half way through the 2nd half in a final four game against Dwayne Wade still just blows me away. I've watched enough of Crean's coaching in the Big10 to know that Bill Self will have him crying for his momma by halftime of that game as well.... unless his prolific three point shooters just fire away.
Maybe they want to eliminate the Adidas schools because of the hideous band around the middle uniforms that Adidas is dressing them in.
Beautiful campus.
I'd love to see the old time pitchers like Walter Johnson, Pete Alexander, Lefty Grove and others.
I'd love to see them reincarnated into 2015 with the same pitching ability and see a coach bring him out of the game in the 6th or 7th inning because he reached their pitch count! Walter Johnson had 531 complete games and also had a few saves each year. 350 innings pitched every year. How did they do it then, but can't handle it today?
Watching a special on the Flying Illini of 1989. They mentioned coach Lew Henson who made a magical run to the final four with New Mexico State in 1970. What's my point?
New Mexico State has been to the final four more times than Misery.
Really? I saw Gonzaga a couple of times including their loss at home against BYU. Just wasn't that impressed.
I really try not to get into the NCAA this, NCAA that type of thing. But over the years, I'm sure influenced by media types, it appears that Duke and UNC get favorable paths.
I actually read an article yesterday that proclaimed Dukes incredibly tough road to Indy, I think it was Seth Davis who argued this path was fraught with peril:
Rd 1, a gimmee with N. Florida or RMU (Robert Mason?)
rd 2 SD State or St. Johns SD State can be a tough team we all know here, but that was a year ago, I think they've dropped off. (didn't we used to have someone over on KUSports who was a big SD state fan as well? I forget who it was)
rd 3 Utah, GTown or the 12/13 seeds
Rd 4 Gonzaga, ISU, or other lesser teams.
Gonzaga a 2 seed? I doubt they'll survive that long. I'm kind of tired of Gonzaga. They're a major wannabe that gets seeded highly every year and well, almost became a historical footnote when they barely beat Southern as a 1 seed. This year same thing. Gonzaga, if they played in a major conference would be a 4 or 5 seed because they'd have more than a few losses. ISU, if the seeds work out will run them out of the gym.
ISU-Duke will be Dukes toughest test in that region. I think ISU could've been a 2 and us a 3. In fact it's too bad it didn't happen because maybe we'd have an easier path to the final 4.
The thing I'm hoping for with Duke is since their last championship against Butler (why o why couldn't that half court shot gone in?!!) they have not been very impressive teams in the tourney. So I'm looking for another early flameout, certainly not 1st round, but maybe SD State or Utah?
You're right, it hasn't gotten near the level of the other site.
I heard Gottlieb and Vitale locked lips once too.
Didn't I read that NMSt has a 7'3" guy?
I also read that NMSt is the 2nd highest ranked Kenpom 15 seed ever.
Adversity brings out the best in people and the worst in people.
Blessed are the peacemakers.
I have not been a peace maker lately, I've been a malcontent. None of us should come here to discuss a team that we all love and have to log off mad at someone. I don't like to be at conflict with anyone, it's just my nature.
Some of this comes with the rare occasion of our team scuffling of late and with the possibility of another rare early exit from the dance. Maybe we don't know how to handle it.
I wish we were all sitting around talking instead of typing things that can be misconstrued. Talking things out helps understanding. But we have a rather imperfect medium here that lately has gotten a little unfriendly.
Turn the other beak... Some of you are good at ignoring others, some not so much.
Obviously I'm not mentioning names as we all write things I think that can get a little bit nasty.
GIve us this day our daily buckets... Keep writing, it's fun, keep it that way!
What gauls me is from what we've been led to believe this could have been wrapped up one way or the other weeks ago. Someone doesn't want him playing.
Crimson, the article says he won't play according to Self.
@KUSTEVE Yes, I noticed that when I looked up their schedule. They also lost to Charleston Southern a team dancing in one of the minor tournaments which is where mississippi should be dancing.
I've seen LSU and Georgia play this year in person. Neither looked like NCAA teams when they played each other. Arkansas, I haven't seen except when they lost at home to LSU. Mississippi almost beat Kentucky, I guess that's good enough!
In other words, you're right. How did the SEC (SouthEvilConference) get 5 teams in?
Well if we play them, wouldn't it be ironic if Connor shot us out of the tournament?
(those who know me know I'm joking, those who don't know me, I'm joking, he's not going to shoot us out of the tournament, we'll shut him down!)
This isn't exactly related to what you put there KUSTEVE, but this is interesting what I just read by Pat Forde:
The one factor that the field may have going for it: Kentucky has not played a team that is a top-four tournament seed in 78 days. If the bracket holds (and it rarely does), the Wildcats would have to beat four such teams to win the title.
In that span of time, Kansas (12) has played eight games against top-16 seed competition, as has Iowa State.
I'm looking forward to a KU-WSU matchup. Of course, let's win Friday first!
"With all due respect you don't know what you're talking about". Nice, why add the with all due respect because there's nothing respectful in telling someone they don't know what they're talking about.
@bskeet Thanks, I see your point. They probably could have avoided putting Dayton in the playin game.
@JayHawkFanToo So Wichita got screwed maybe? Their early exit in the tourney probably hurt them. So maybe we could have had an easier 2nd round game, I get your point, but our 8 losses and poor showing of late hurt our ability to get any favorable matchups in the dance.
@bskeet OK, Where do we play our first weekend? I don't remember, but year after year we've been placed near home. Don't know anything about Dayton. Who do they play?
I try to watch it like it's a game and not life and death. It's a juicy matchup for the tournament. So we'll have an excuse if we lose to them? Why don't we make it our super bowl? We sound petty and childish when we make statements like I'm seeing here.
I'm gonna quit KU buckets if I start to hear more NCAA is screwing us nonsense. That's not a threat, well, it's not a promise either! But I know I'll hear a lot of it and it's nonsense.
@BeddieKU23 No chance we'll get to Kentucky? Why not?
Some here have been saying they want another chance at Kentucky. Maybe we'll get it.
Interestingly I don't think yesterdays first half was bad ball. We actually made some 3's and if memory serves correctly we were 3-7 near the end of the half which were numbers close to what we were making before the slump. Of course everything just fell apart and, we enter the tourney 5-4 in our last nine games.
Jaybate, we're 5-4 in the games since you started with your bad ball theorem. Are you saying we'd be 0-9 in those games if we weren't playing bad ball?
Or is it like I posted a few weeks ago when the 3 point shooting slump started, that we're in a shooting slump, and we've never broken out of it? A few more 3's drop yesterday, like they had been all season and we win that game. And you can say the same with any of our losses since then.
It could be worse, we could be misery.
SO now we go into the dance 5-4 in our last 9 games.
Graham has been messing up a lot of things in this half.
Waynes world!
Obviously we're still in this game
We started the half out with 3 FT's, then Selden twice (I thnink) made two lazy passes which led to runouts for them and it was over. We have no killer instinct. Comes with being young I guess but there's no logical reason for this game turning like it has.
This just in, the gamblers got to Greene. That's the only explanation for him
@Crimsonorblue22 It's almost like the stripe waits to see if the ball is going in, then he'll blow his whistle
IF it's over that's good, we just won!
