Any time someone quotes the Good Book here fine with me!

Tuesday's Game @ Texas Tech!! • Feb 09, 2015 04:35 PM

@BeddieKU23 I had a similar response to the KU-UK game in 2012. Living near New Orleans allowed me to attend that game. It was my first KU game since '88. I was tickled to be there. I was thrilled to be attending a national championship game. I also, inside my mind, didn't think we had too much of a chance.

It was a blast being there. My wife went, it was her first KU game ever. I even congratulated some Kentucky fans. (I also wanted to accidentally push down the steep upper deck the uk kids in front of me who stood the whole game and told me I can just watch the game on the big screen) So it was one of the rare losses where at the end I wasn't really too upset.

But I will say this. I rarely go into a KU game thinking we have no chance. Last year was the first year, I think that I hadn't written KU's name down on the champions line on my bracket in March. I expect us to win each and every time out. I think most of you do too. It's not arrogance. It's intelligence. We're better almost every time and we know it!

Superstition... • Feb 09, 2015 01:37 PM

I admit, you know, I live near New Orleans, I was chilling with my voodoo lady and she really doesn't care about the Jayhawks very much. She said to me she just wanted to see an exciting 2nd half, I told her, that's fine, the 'Hawks can't lose though. She messed up. I messed up. I take responsibility.

We lost Saturday? I'd forgotten! :0

I shouldn't have picked on you specifically as it happens frequently I think. Thanks for your gracious response. RCJHKU

Sometimes we need to check to see if a thread has already been started on a topic because this topic was already posted with some great pics by @wrwlumpy.

ITS THE END OF THE WORLD • Feb 09, 2015 02:39 AM

I looked at @KUinLA's profile and his posts and I'm not sure why everyone's piling on. He's one of us it appears, barely posts anything anyways. Gee, he offered an opinion. Doesn't like the way our 3's are being set up. Fine. I don't care if you agree or not, but he's entitled to express what he sees.

Dean Smith Rest In Peace • Feb 08, 2015 02:44 PM

Oh my, I hadn't heard. What a great man. From my perspective growing up in Chicago, I never had a reason to dislike Carolina. They seemed to do things the right way. Of course he had great talent around him and just was seemingly always in the mix.

I'm sure it would have been frustrating to fall victim to his four corners stall. But you can't blame him. I'm sure Guy Lewis wishes he knew how to implement it when NCState won it in 83.

I was happy when he got his first ring. Any team that defeated the evil empire of that day, AKA Georgetown, was my favorite team for that day.

I also remember when he didn't get his first ring. Indiana in '81. I heard the news that day of Reagan's assassination attempt, and spent the afternoon hoping they wouldn't postpone the game just because the pres got shot! I was a kid, give me break!

I felt sorry for Dean in 91' when he got T-d up twice at the end of our game in the final four. I don't remember the details, but I think I remember him shaking Roy's hand on the way out of the arena. I still think that game may have been Roys best coaching job.

I'm too young to have memories of him as a Jayhawk, as I'm sure almost all of us are, but that obviously is a sense of pride for many of us. Maybe someone can fill in some details of his time at KU.

ITS THE END OF THE WORLD • Feb 08, 2015 01:51 AM

I don't think it's the end of the world, but it makes me wonder if I reposted "How's the season going to end?" again (it was a lively discussion this week) if there would be a noticeable trend towards an earlier exit? I'm leaning that way just to prove how fickle I am.

The word to describe todays loss to me was dumb. We made so many dumb plays down the stretch. Dumb turnovers, dumb shots, dumb FTs. I know this is dumb, but it's what I've got!

@cragarhawk Why are we due for a loss? We might deserve this loss if lose, but I wouldn't say we're due for a loss.

KU vs Okie State game chat • Feb 07, 2015 08:41 PM

Mistroth had a good line on JNew's blog: "Remember that game when we had 3 turnovers?"

@brooksmd I wonder how many are this half? Probably quite a few!

KU vs Okie State game chat • Feb 07, 2015 08:29 PM

@wissoxfan83 They ought to make that a strategy, just run into KU's feet every time and trip, ref will call it every time!

KU vs Okie State game chat • Feb 07, 2015 08:29 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 Running into our feet is a trip on us!

What a surprise, announcer agrees with that crappy call.

@wissoxfan83 OSU practically pushes our guy out of bounds on the sideline for a TO. This officiating is becoming a problem.

Not sure about that foul call.

KU vs Okie State game chat • Feb 07, 2015 08:17 PM

@brooksmd I thought the same.

Oubre has 1 point.

KU vs Okie State game chat • Feb 07, 2015 08:15 PM

@Eric Great pic, that's when the annoying announcers said it was a bad shot by Brannen because he didn't wait til the last second.

KU vs Okie State game chat • Feb 07, 2015 08:15 PM

@brooksmd Turnovers = 11, not good, you're right, but I don't think they're scoring much off of those given the score.

Not too many negatives in my book. We've scored 41. played some pretty tough D. I'll take it.

KU vs Okie State game chat • Feb 07, 2015 07:55 PM

That was an ugly FT.

These announcers talk too much about things that aren't relevant to the game.

UK makes me jealous? • Feb 06, 2015 03:38 PM

@Ralster and @drgnslayr, What I don't like about Kentucky is they have hijacked this game we all love by stockpiling talent like never before. I don't loathe Duke, Syracuse, or other bluebloods like I do Kentucky. Part of it is their fans. Their arrogance. Their bragging and boasting. Part of it is their coach. You applaud him, and well you should, I guess, but I just can't stand him for what he's doing to the game.

On the Roy and Larry discussion I always felt the minor indiscretion that got us in trouble under Larry's watch was a blessing in disguise. Larry has proven he won't stay put in a place anyways and it opened the door for the wildly successful Roy years and of course the wildly successful Self years.

UK makes me jealous? • Feb 06, 2015 04:45 AM

Kentucky has zero games in their league this year that nationally will draw any attention. This is in no fault of their own of course, but think about that. We like the attention KU gets nationally, and we like that weekly it seems we have another big game coming up. Not Kentucky. Their next big game will be around the sweet 16. That will be the next high caliber team they play. It's kind of reminding me of Wichita last year.

How's this season going to end? • Feb 06, 2015 04:36 AM

@JhawkAlum I did a quick very non scientific survey of this post and elite 8 seems to be the conclusion of our fan base.

How's this season going to end? • Feb 05, 2015 07:55 PM

I saw this, with the accompanying misleading headline on KUsports.com:

One of the commenters there even accused another poster of being like @jaybate 1.0

Thunder steals the Thunder • Feb 04, 2015 06:04 PM

I don't think affordability would be the issue if fans are choosing the Thunder and thus avoiding OU and OSU. Down here in the Bayou, I will probably go to Saturdays game against Bama and shell out 5 bucks for tickets and then move down to the 10th or 15th row wherever I can find seats and sit there. What amazes me is this years team is decent, they have two potential first rounders, Jordan Mickey and Jarrell Martin, both of whom are averaging a double-double and next years team is going to have quite the buzz with the top player coming in Simmons. I might have to go to quite a few games next year, particularly if Mickey and Martin stick around.

I'd guess that OU and OSU and a whole bunch of other football schools do the same. Of course practically giving away tickets takes away the buzz factor and there is little buzz when tickets are going for a few bucks.

How's this season going to end? • Feb 04, 2015 02:33 PM

@icthawkfan316

I like your summary of teams. I agree obviously with Kentucky already sown up the #1 seed. Duke in my opinion, has as well, although there's lots of basketball left. What is definitely intriguing are the other 2 #1 seeds.

Of course, I favor the Badgers. Their bad loss to Rutgers was tainted somewhat by Frank Kaminsky missing that game and point guard Jackson broke his ankle in the second half of that game. They failed miserably down the stretch after that happened. But they have been playing beautiful basketball since then. Their D isn't quite up to its' normal stout self, but their offense has been amazing. Scores in the 80's and even 90's last night show that they have a lot of offensive firepower inside and out. They really could enter the dance with 2 or 3 losses. Not many teams with a record like that are denied #1 seeds.

Virginia has it much tougher but passed a nice test on the road against UNC. They are really a good team.

Of course if our team can maintain it's current success, they will have a decent shot at having 4 losses maximum entering the tournament as well. Again, like UW, tough to keep a 4 loss team from the dance.

Gonzaga, supposedly really good this year, but that weak schedule.

@BeddieKU23, good post. Those are giving me hope that we can end this season on a positive note.

How's this season going to end? • Feb 04, 2015 12:00 AM

@Lulufulu I never gave up. My post, I think it was after the Kentucky game was titled "I Quit". I outlined all of the reasons I quit. At the end I wrote, "See you all next game!" No, I'm too invested in this crazy fandom to ever give up!

How's this season going to end? • Feb 03, 2015 08:04 PM

@icthawkfan316

That's about where I was thinking too, although I look at the teams around us in the rankings and like to think that we could handle them and make the final four.

How's this season going to end? • Feb 03, 2015 07:32 PM

Difficult to conjecture at this point I understand. I feel a lot better now than I did back before Christmas when I said I quit on the team.

Reasons we'll go far.

Kelly Oubre has obviously become the player we expected based on preseason hype. He wasn't that player before Christmas.

Perry Ellis seems to be figuring out his changing role on the team.

Coach Self finally began reading the posts at KUBuckets, and probably even checks in with @Jesse-Newell during halftime to see what we're saying. This has led to the inside out strategy being utilized with increasing effectiveness.

Reasons we won't.
The long range arsenal can go kaput at odd times and if it does at the wrong time we'll lose to another Temple type team.

Injuries. Cliff's back, Graham's toe, etc...

We're not big enough.

We're too young.

I'd like to think we've got this figured out enough that a first weekend exit is not going to happen. I'd like to hope that we can get to the Regional final. I'd like to dream that we'll survive til the last night of the season and cut the nets down.

Bill Self Offensive Philosophy 2015-2025 • Feb 03, 2015 07:23 PM

@Bosthawk

"Has a Kansas team ever had this ridiculously hard a schedule?"

Although the 85-86 team played a few cupcakes, they also had a killer schedule. They played National Champion Louisville twice that regular season and beat them both times. They played Duke, which lost to Lousville in the championship, and of course again in the NC game. They played North Carolina State whom we played twice, beating them in the regional final also, and Kentucky, a regional finalist, and Washington (in the dance that year), and Memphis, also danced, Arkansas, WIchita St. (@nuleafjhawk), Pepperdine (in the dance that year).

To sum up, that's 8 tournament teams besides our league games which wasn't that tough besides ISU which played in the sweet 16, whom we played three times by the way. We played 4 of the 7 elite 8 teams in the regular season. (we couldn't play ourselves). We played three regular season games against the national finalists, winning two of those games.

That is what I call a ridiculously difficult schedule, but that's what most powerhouses did back then. Maybe they didn't have an RPI back then because if they did, they wouldn't be saying this years team is playing a schedule of historical proportions.
