ISU Wrap: The Four Out/One In Magic • Feb 03, 2015 03:02 PM

@Crimsonorblue22

I had to laugh at the huffing and puffing comment. Last night I attended my daughters' HS soccer match. She played midfielder, which involves the most running generally, all 80 minutes of the match, then coach asked her to play the JV match afterwards which was shortened to 40 minutes because it was very cold. 120 minutes of running around a soccer field, and our boys, with their TV timeouts every four minutes were huffing and puffing!

She scored a goal and had to assists by the way in an easy match!

A VIEW FROM THE COUCH. • Feb 01, 2015 02:32 AM

Lumpy you are hereby anointed the multi-media specialist of kubuckets.com. I love these and I love the previews of each game. As a geography person, the pics of the campuses and towns always interest me. Keep up the good work!

Goal Tending?? • Feb 01, 2015 02:25 AM

I could never get it straight when I played ball, always swatting those balls from near the top of the backboard.

Little Help ! • Jan 31, 2015 09:55 PM

@nuleafjhawk You are dumb, you can only shoot a million percent from the foul line. Sheesh.

Cliff Alexander Height Alert? • Jan 31, 2015 02:37 PM

@drgnslayr I had the same experience a couple of weeks ago bumping into Shaq. Massive, I shook his hand and my smallish hands disappeared in his like a baby's does in an adults hand.

By the way, where did you get those shoes?!!

Cliff Alexander Height Alert? • Jan 31, 2015 05:18 AM

I was walking in the old Wal Mart in Lawrence. I noticed the tops of two heads visible over the top of the shelves from the next aisle. I ran over there thinking only ku basketballers are that tall. Indeed it was Danny and some other guy I forget. That's tall.

KU/SEC challenge to change format... • Jan 30, 2015 11:06 PM

@justanotherfan It is amazing they haven't ever been to the dance. They've had some decent chances in recent years, but have had some really bad luck with injuries taking several key players out for the season. They've had good coaches, Ricky Birdsong had them on the upswing I think when he was murdered. Chris Collins may have what it takes too. Whenever it happens there'll be some amazing celebration in Evanston.

Things to Do with Silage • Jan 30, 2015 05:08 PM

Jaybate, my meds are called Zatarains with daily doses of Zapps.

@JayHawkFanToo So is the Temple game an outlier too? Most of what you wrote is excuse making. We got stomped, and another month later got stomped in even more embarrassing fashion at Temple. If it all leads to a FF finish or better, well, I'll buy the outlier theory. But if it leads to another first weekend finish, well, then it was an omen of what was to come.

Things to Do with Silage • Jan 30, 2015 01:44 PM

Off your meds again JB? :)

KU/SEC challenge to change format... • Jan 30, 2015 01:43 PM

@drgnslayr The kid from Missouri probably thought he was giving the camera the bird but forgot which finger to hold up!

KU/SEC challenge to change format... • Jan 30, 2015 01:41 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 I don't know if my wife will want all of my virtual friends hanging out in our house!

KU/SEC challenge to change format... • Jan 30, 2015 12:00 AM

Just because I live near LSU, I am a little bit in touch with that team. They're pretty decent and if not for several late game collapses, would most likely be ranked. Obviously it depends on who'd they play and where.

Now, if it happens, I want KU-LSU, in Baton Rouge!!! I know @brooksmd would want that as well.

UGLY WIN BUT A BIG ROAD WIN. • Jan 29, 2015 07:12 PM

I recall two games in 2008. Ugly, we couldn't score to save our lives, turnovers, brick city, in fact it happened twice in three games, against Davidson, and then against Memphis.

UGLY WIN BUT A BIG ROAD WIN. • Jan 29, 2015 04:38 PM

We were brain dead last night. Selden made enough bonehead plays to make a lowlight reel. Mason, who once again carried us, plows over a three point shooter while we have a nice lead in the last minute of the game. Maybe he knew they'd miss their FT's, I don't know.
I just wasn't impressed with many aspects of that game. But I haven't been impressed with many aspects of this season either.

By the way, anyone see that we are #1 on the RPI? I guess we are the best team in the country. The article I read about that talked about our schedule. It described a SOS that is historic in its' toughness. While I agree we've had some tough matchups, I don't see how it's possible this is the toughest schedule ever. Yes, we've played Kentucky....and lost by a ton.
We've played some traditionally tough teams that probably won't play in the dance this year, Florida and MSU. Besides UK our toughest opponent has been Utah, in KC, a virtual home game. Georgetown on the road, tough, but not a ranked team I don't think. Temple looked like a ranked team, but I don't think they are. Of course the league offers up challenges, but no top 1o challenges at present. At least we won't be afraid of anyone in March.

KU vs TCU chat • Jan 29, 2015 05:38 AM

@brooksmd We, (Belaire, the boys team that I help out with) won in PK's. Got me home later than I planned for the KU game, but a fun match anyway. The LHSAA considers it a tie however in their rankings, but in district, it's a win.

KU vs TCU chat • Jan 29, 2015 05:25 AM

@brooksmd Ha! I didn't even know he was down. I was at a soccer match at Plaquemine didn't get home until 9:05. DVR'ed the game and watched it in fast motion.

KU vs TCU chat • Jan 29, 2015 04:32 AM

What the heck was that? I guess any win on the road is good, but that was ugly.

TEXAS CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY HORNED FROGS • Jan 28, 2015 03:00 PM

Topeka YMCA never recovered from beating us. They haven't been heard from since. It must have gone to their heads.

Graham reacts to Greene 3 • Jan 28, 2015 02:55 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 Yes, except Svi hasn't made one in a game seemingly in weeks!

Graham reacts to Greene 3 • Jan 28, 2015 02:08 PM

There was a nice story on KUSports this week about Graham. He's a fun kid who is enjoying his time at KU. It mentioned that play. He said in practice Greene always makes the wide open shots like that and he KNEW BG would knock that down. It appears Self is really loving that kid.

Frankamp • Jan 27, 2015 02:21 AM

@Lulufulu I'm not sure I feel bad for the kid. He did something that is incredibly stupid. I hate what alcohol does to people in this country and hate when I read every week about more people killing themselves and others because they want to drink and drive. I don't call it a mistake. I call it a crime. I make mistakes, I don't commit crimes.

If Connor wasn't some top basketball prospect we'd all just see another name in the paper and think he got what he deserved.

I hope I'm not coming across all sanctimonious or anything but that's the way I see it. I do hope he learns a lesson and comes back strong however.

Congrats to Coach K for 1k • Jan 26, 2015 05:43 PM

@brooksmd Wait til he gets to 2000 wins, I wonder what it'll be like then?

I never worry about home games for our team. Road games I worry. They can have their Hilton Magic, and I don't know how it compares to AFH 'magic', but I'd guess our magic is better than their magic, largely because we're almost always a better team.

I don't know what goes into major college athletics, but I don't get the 'quick turnaround' idea either. Saturday afternoon to Monday night is 48 hours plus to be ready for the next game.

Fatigue? My daughter will play three soccer matches this week. T,Th,Fr They are 80 minutes long. She will be on the field the entire time of all three matches. She gets pushed, elbowed, kicked, tripped and runs at the very least 2 miles in the process. Saying it's a quick turnaround sounds like excuse making.

This team has lots of experience with the Saturday-Monday thing. That's part of what you get by being very good. I say we're ready for both Saturday and Monday. But as two years ago proves, Wednesday, although it defies logic, is the game that we might be a little bit on edge about.

@ZIG Come on Zig, I graduated in '88 and haven't stepped foot in Kansas (unfortunately) since. Who is between Self and Davis?

The Running Center • Jan 26, 2015 01:07 AM

I hate running and I'm just tired from reading that post!

@wrwlumpy Is that Verne Lundquist leaning over looking at Jamari or someone else?

Tubby and Tech give KU the Big 12 • Jan 25, 2015 09:06 PM

@drgnslayr Thanks, we really didn't play that well except for Frank the Tank who ought to be the poster child for Kelly and Cliff and any others thinking of going pro. Frank said at the beginning of the season that the NBA is boring. "Who wants to go play in a half empty gym in Charlotte when you can play in packed houses in the big 10 and other places" is what he also said.

Tubby and Tech give KU the Big 12 • Jan 25, 2015 07:16 PM

Regarding the rest of the Big 12. Just win baby. Take care of business and then we don't need to cheer when one of our challengers absorbs another loss.

Regarding Wiggins, I barely think of him as a Jayhawk. I wish it were different, but with all of the obvious talent was an air of he doesn't care that much.

@drgnslayr Agree on Hoiberg. I like him more than any other coach in our league. I wonder if he'll get lured away to some more glamourous job someday? I hope not.

Rock Chalk New Look Hawks! • Jan 25, 2015 07:04 PM

@Jyhwk_InTigrtwn

Oh, major booboo on my part. For some reason I was thinking you were talking about Kelly and Cliff. No, never heard anything about Frank and Graham leaving.

Rock Chalk New Look Hawks! • Jan 25, 2015 06:59 PM

@Jyhwk_InTigrtwn

I sure hope they decide to play for us, but most assume they're not going to stick around.

By the way, the site started after the KUSports.com changed their login procedure forcing people to have a facebook login thus revealing their names. That irked a lot of people and a kind Jayhawk fan whose technical ability far exceeds the rest of ours started it up. Thank @approxinfinity for doing this.

Post a topic someday if you haven't, we'd like to hear what you have to say!

@brooksmd Was that at least on top 10? Or just the game highlight?

KU vs Texas chat here.... • Jan 25, 2015 12:56 AM

I'm still in awe over the Jamari hustle play. The block alone should make every top 10 list there is!

KU DE-NUTs LONGHORNS...JUST THE FACTS JACK • Jan 25, 2015 12:32 AM

@HighEliteMajor I assume the play you're talking about was Jamari's block. CBS sure didn't recognize it, never showed it even once on replay. I was able to rewatch it and it was surely a thing of beauty. It'll be interesting to see if it's picked up by the media as a play to be watched.

KU vs Texas chat here.... • Jan 24, 2015 09:04 PM

Nice win for the 'Hawks. Didn't see it coming to be honest, but they proved me wrong and for that I truly apologize. I will never doubt KU, Self, Perry, Frank, et al. again!

KU vs Texas chat here.... • Jan 24, 2015 08:38 PM

@JayHawkFanToo That has been going on all game. I'm frustrated. It's been the difference in this game.

KU vs Texas chat here.... • Jan 24, 2015 08:03 PM

How about that block by Traylor. Go back to the wild sequence if you can, which was around the 5 minute mark and watch it again. Unbelievable.

Kobe probly done with career now. • Jan 23, 2015 07:42 PM

Good riddance Kobe

The LongHorn game says it all • Jan 23, 2015 01:32 PM

@VailHawk Crean just got lucky with a strategy. He's the one who really can't coach his way out of a wet paper bag.

@REHawk Good word.

@brooksmd I'm not good at following rules!

@KUSTEVE I see you deleted, but I can still see it through the gray! Yes, I'm risking the big fella unleashing the power of the feds on me. I'm sure that during his visit HCBS or @Jesse-Newell tipped him off of our little group here!

If you like your plan you can keep your plan.

You didn't build that team.

Sorry JB, nice post really, but my feelings for the man kind of got in the way of our normally all KU all the time approach here!

Next Up: Texas (17) 14-4, Big 12 3-2 • Jan 21, 2015 04:42 PM

If we can do what the Badgers did last night, we're gonna be fine. They had zero turnovers for the entire game. Remarkable indeed. Did it against 25th ranked Iowa.

@konkeyDong I was going to be the big man last night and let my wife watch the State of the Union and I'd watch the Badgers on ESPN3. It's always worked for me. However, last night it asked me to log in with my provider which is DirectTV and for some unjust reason DirectTV or ESPN doesn't let you do that.

Speaking of the Badgers, they played 40 minutes against 25th ranked Iowa and committed ZERO turnovers. How about that!!

@HawkInMizery So play along, the next time another KU player clangs a dunk off the rim you'll.....?

More Tarik Black • Jan 20, 2015 10:38 PM

@drgnslayr I noticed that too! Is he really that big?

The Remaining Big 12 Schedule And Strategy • Jan 20, 2015 08:23 PM

@drgnslayr I really don't like the looks of any of those games. Losing at Temple, (I know some of you make excuses saying it was just before Christmas and they were distracted by visions of fairies dancing in their heads) showed me that this team is not tough enough to win a whole bunch of the biggest games of the year in other peoples gyms. Now, I know we'll win a few. Baylor was one example. But then ISU showed us that we can't assume we're KU and we're going to win.

All of these teams will have the same problems however and we'll be right there in March to win another league title. I don't even want to think about what will happen in the dance.

Ivan Renko: An Anti-Retrospective • Jan 20, 2015 08:16 PM

I hear he's the father of Manti Teo's girlfriend and Sidd Finch is his uncle.

Note to Jaybate on corner 3s • Jan 20, 2015 07:13 PM

I'd be interested in knowing the percentages of individuals from different parts of the floor. Is that available? Ellis is a top of the key three baller, can't remember the last time I saw him shoot one from the corner.

The Selden Factor • Jan 20, 2015 05:11 PM

@RockChalkinTexas Yes, I started a thread "If KU clangs another dunk I'll...."
