Trying to be realistic so I won't bother having the HC of the Boston Celtics on this list.
This is in order.
Tony Bennett
Will Wade (if he survives the FBI thing)
Chris Beard
I mostly think the list doesn't matter too much after Bennett. I'd throw more money at him until he said yes.

Wish I could say I'm shocked by this. But I just think you look at what Self has done with potential OADs compared to K and Cal and he's clearly in 3rd place. That makes the decision much easier.
I won't be even a little bit surprised if Hurt ends up going elsewhere. The threat of a probation probably isn't helping recruiting at all...
If I were a recruit I'd be worried about a post-season ban as well. Especially as a OAD where this may be your only chance at one.
No doubt kids are worried about it. It's the uncertainty that is a killer. Once all the dust actually settles I trust KU will get it rolling again.

@Crimsonorblue22 It doesn't matter what Grimes would have done with the other two. It only matters what he has done under Self and the stigma that comes with it. Along with Cliff, Diallo, Selby, Henry and really just most of the OADs we've had. It is just the current perception, and it's hard to argue with.
Yeah, fair or not this is what the view is.
And there was an article today on the Athletic slobbering all over Calipari and how players improve massively under him.

@truehawk93 Unless we somewhat collapse, I don't think we will drop to a 6 or a 7. Most had us as a 3 prior to TT. 4-5 is probably more likely...obviously depending on how we look going forward.
Correct.
@FarmerJayhawk I'm not hopeful but it never hurts to get a visit.
@kjayhawks Charlie was a 4* recruit tbf. Transfers have been really hit or miss. Not that my opinion on it matters but I'd say 1 max per cycle and preferably not every time.

We’re trying harder in everything in the AD. Long is adding support staff to all sports and going to upgrade the quality of coaches in at least one, maybe 2-3 sports over the next year. Fun time to be a Jayhawk unless one is a basketball t-shirt only fan.
Great to hear. The football program has been a huge embarrassment that was going to potentially hurt KU when realignment came up again. Just having it be respectable would be huge.

Flipped this kid away from Missouri.
KU is now a football school.
I kinda saw this coming which is why I didn't watch the TTU game or join the game thread here. At this point just don't get swept by KSU. Rock Chalk.
KU got a "commitment" from Keenan Hambrick a 6'4'' 3* WR out of Alabama. He also said in the tweet that his recruitment remains open. Football is silly.

Did I mention, Agbagi is my favorite player? I haven't said it for a few days.
It's a toss-up between Agbaji and Dotson for me.
And I echo the sentiment on Doke. Kid has been injured every year. Go pro if that's what he wants to do. Won't be in the NBA but some league will take him I am sure.
Yikes

@RockChalkinTexas My wife and I still take inspiration from your grace in handling everything. (As we have with Red Rooster's caring for his wife in her mysterious malady.) I certainly understand the desire for a more level perspective than comment boards sometimes display!
Wishing you well in your own recovery, and hoping that the team can bring some joy to you soon!
Well said. I was caring for a dying relative for awhile until he passed in November 2017. The last year in particular was very difficult without getting into too many details. The personal care was taking just about every last bit of free time I had.
Also wishing a good recovery to you @RockChalkinTexas
@BeddieKU23 he was sassing you because you did ' for feet and not '' for inches.
Agree on Enaruna he won't be replacing Dedric's load. I was very interested when he was lowly ranked and projected 4 years. It is possible now that he could have unrealistic expectations from some. Hurt is still a must get imho.
For anyone that did not read the article, Agbaji confirms he will be returning for next season.

Always been a fan of his after checking him out. Haven't seen him in person obviously since he is in Utah currently.
Self is out seeing Enaruna tonight.
Kid has moved into the top 50 on 24/7 sports.
Matt Tait just put it out on twitter that KU is not recruiting him as well. Lol.

Some of the disagreement's that raged between Jaybate and the others were his defense of two players that many on this site detested whenever they were in the game. Many often stated that it was time to get rid of Self. I think that the argument's that took place were caused by how each one of us felt after a loss or how each of us would bitch because we didn't win by a lot more. Jaybate always had his side and the others, well, they were the others. Jaybate felt recently that Self had betrayed him and the school that he loves. His heart was broken by Self and his response was incredible anger at this betrayal, and by what made his 15 years of praise, now ring hollow.
I think I know who many and others is.
I liked Brady, but I wasn't here or at KUsports when he was playing.
In any case, as much as I argued about it* with Jaybate I am in fact sad to read that he has become disillusioned.
*It being the fact that Self played the shoe game too.
KU is not recruiting LaMelo.
Drew should probably win Big 12 COTY all things considered.

@Kcmatt7 Excellent post above, and nice follow up from @DCHawker.
This is a puzzling case.
The "improved competition" might be an issue as @benshawks08 mentioned (and as @Texas-Hawk-10 has brought up Houston in particular). I don't buy the Houston thing. the guy played AAU ball. I doubt Agbaji's KC area competition was worse than Houston. Or Ellis/Frankamp's Wichita competition when they played there.
But the competition thing generally may be the key -- as more broadly referenced by @benshawks08. Guys who play in Chicago take a huge step up to D-1 competition. It's a big difference.
Again, if he's the #38 player, then we're more patient.
Maybe, Grimes just isn't that good yet. Overrated to begin with. Looked good at a certain level, but needs more time to push to the next level. Seems reasonable.
That could impact confidence, and create the mess between the ears we've suspected.
Patience is the key with all of that. The best thing for Q might be just getting the season over.
I've suspected he might be homesick, too. Looking for answers is all.
I'm sorry, though. I don't care what it is, you can bust your a** for a rebound. You can block out. You can dive on the floor. If there is such mental fragility that you can't do that, man, there are other lines of work.
We need to win. Q to the bench. Go with the guys that can give you the best chance to win. This is winning time. Development time has concluded.
The 2018 class was really bad. I'd say overall we are fortunate that Dotson was as advertised and Agbaji ended up a hidden gem. When you have Grimes in the top 15 and McCormack is top 35 that says it all about the class. Of course, none of that excuses Grimes not playing hard.
Basically there is Zion at the top, cataclysmic gulf then Barrett, then a titanic gulf to the rest. Oddly enough, Duke gets those top two guys. Color me shocked.
To your AAU point, Agbaji wasn't even good in AAU. He barely played for Mokan from what I remember reading.

@approxinfinity I have no problem with believing Vick didn't fit in for some reason, or that the team seems more cohesive with him gone. It is the accusations of being disruptive, and the "don't let the door hit you on the way out"-type comments that bother me. Many seem to care about KU players only insofar as they please fans' expectations.
This is sports fans in general.
There is a wild rumor going around about Vick, I won't repeat it here.

@Kcmatt7 You said, "OADs have not been good to Self."
Maybe, if we are just looking from the outside, Self has not been good to OADs.
It's long been my position. Self is not the best manager of the OAD player. We've had one really good one that fit our team, seemed to satisfy Bill Self (a big one), was not a drama queen, and was a team player -- Josh Jackson.
I actually completely agree with this. Self has done his absolute best work with 3-4 year guys. The history speaks for itself.

Did it really matter if some of his Jenga- like thought streams may not completely hold up to logical scrutiny? Better to just enjoy, and at his best, he made you see things in a new light... even if the light was refracted.
Yes it does matter, to an extent. People shouldn't be able to blatantly lie and make things up and get a free pass on passing them off as facts. Echo chambers are dangerous.
Now, of course it's not as serious as what goes on in politics and the media in this regard but I don't think anyone here deserves a free pass, myself included.
I don't intend for this to be piling on but we are having a discussion about him. Also, I think I may have missed JB's better years. I'm still relatively new here, after all. I went back and read some of his older posts and there is a bit of a change. In any case I will drop it now, I just saw a lot more replies and felt like I needed to elaborate.
@Paris Wow, three times. Just one time was pretty terrifying for me. RC.

but some his last post on here made me concerned about his mental state if I'm being honest, hopefully he's doing well.
Same.
@Kcmatt7 I almost used the troll word as well. It certainly seemed like he viewed himself as a higher being, playing with his food. He certainly had a way with taking a long time to say nothing.
@HighEliteMajor He invited conflict as he was very combative and belittling with his posts.
I guess I missed a lot of the facts. He got the shoe game right, that can't be denied but he was also completely wrong about many things, like Vick being a PG. And I wouldn't mistake his verbose and circuitous style with higher intellect. His biggest issue is when he made boisterous claims is that he wouldn't support them at all. Even when links were posted that proved the contrary. Frequently, I wondered where some of his "facts" came from and it seemed like the answer was out of thin air. I scoured search engines a few times to try to find claims he was making. I certainly put more effort into it than he did, so I guess he "won".
As a final aside, almost everyone is always injured to some extent in sports. College or pro guys are consistently banged up and have to play through it (or not). Just little nicks and whatnot from playing your hardest. Something you realize when you play and why it's not an excuse unless someone is so hurt they have to be out (Doke, Garrett) or there is a very clear impact in their play (Selden).
Do you know for sure that he walked away from posting and that he is okay? I hope that's the case. As I am about to state in a reply I didn't care for him but I would never wish him actual harm.
HighEliteMajor said:
@Hawk8086 I would suspect, but I don't know of course -- but the anger and vitriol some showed to him on a large number of his substantive posts might have created a, "is this worth it" moment. It bordered on ridiculous.
Edit: Actually, it was ridiculous.
If he responded less obnoxiously and didn't act so obtuse maybe that would have helped. I flip flopped back and forth on if he was as dense as he appeared or was just fooling around. Hard to say.
Overall I am glad he is gone. The negative tension he created outweighed the sometimes interesting sometimes absurd basketball takes he had. I know I am far from alone in this too though overall I think the forum is fairly split on it.

Yep, Self just keeps it polite. Lala still cheering for KU indicates to me that she knows Lagerald is a knucklehead.

So I’m wondering why Q wouldn’t transfer if he felt KU wasn’t the place for him? Staying here is the best option I think we all agree. Why would the other options be better the staying in CBB? Simply sitting a year in the life of one’s career seems a minuscule sacrifice.
I sure hope he stays.
He is much more likely to go pro than transfer. And I also hope he stays as bad as he has been this year.
KUSTEVE said:
@stoptheflop We're close to being good...maybe even really good. If there is a way we could work KJ in over Q, we could take that next step as a team. We would vastly improve our rebounding, we would have better 3 point shooters in the game, and the ball would flow better offensively. Defensively, we'd be better. This is a no brainer. Garrett would be much better than Q... even with the poor shooting. It's time to pull the rip cord, Bill.
KJ is absolutely one of the best 7 players on the team right now.
@Crimsonorblue22 Both. WVU is terrible and OSU is terrible but still played well in those games. Winning on the road in Fort Worth I don't think happens with Vick on the roster. Passing has been good, playing like a team. Effort is contagious etc...
Will be interesting to see the game down in Lubbock next Saturday.

I know some people get all bent out of shape about Fran for some reason, but he is really tight with Self and has connections inside the staff. I wouldn’t be shocked at all if this is what he is hearing right now about Ochai, Q, and Dotson.
It's not from Fran but what he quoted but I must say the Ray Allen comp is insane.
