@cragarhawk The biggest issue with still trying to play 2 bigs is that Mitch would have to get huge minutes. That would be a disaster and Bill knows it imo.

He never really hit them with much volume at all. The fact that he played 14 minutes a game last year shows just how thin the roster was.

If Self is truly switching to predominantly 4 out 1 in I would say this makes a ton of sense. McCormack would have to be the main back-up 5. Ochai will add good shooting, that's for sure. He could very well be the best shooter on the roster which is obviously sorely lacking and needed to play 4 out. So the question is why didn't he play to start the season, besides the injury. Well, he will likely struggle on defense, but it can be mitigated at least by him playing at the 4.

Didn't miss a shot in the first half. Then he got hurt and the other team took the lead. He came back in and couldn't quite lead them to a comeback win.

Braun was absolutely great in that game. Bossi is right in that Braun has a lot of tools. His biggest issue will be getting strong enough to play big time D1 ball. Hudy should help there. He could easily start his JR/SR years depending on how things shake out. I never rule that out now, Lucas started and Braun certainly has more tools than Lucas.
@Kcmatt7 We need Dotson back period. That could easily be the biggest "recruitment" that Self wins.
@BeddieKU23 I wish McBride was close enough for me to catch a game but I can't help but be impressed by him as a person as well as basketball ability. HS basketball is doofy, but you have to be pretty good at something to get 58 points in a game. I love that the staff is adding a lot of shooting with Agbaji, Braun and McBride. Braun and McBride will need to really work to be able to defend at the P5 level but both have the attitude and desire.

I don't think he'd be a take to play next year. KU's back court will be fine next year without any added players. It's a tough sell to add guys under the assumption that they will be taking their first year to develop but it certainly is a good goal for keeping a program going and protecting against lean years. I really like what I saw but I will trust the staff's judgment on him either way.
And I'm just guessing of course, but when highlight videos don't have ANY made threes...

I don't think the RS gets taken off Ochai but I could be wrong. He's probably better than KJ right now and can shoot but...as Bill said playing in a game is totally different.
I am very intrigued to see how the team comes out against TCU.

Agree. I don't see how Doke is remotely draftable at this point with his injury history.
So I am not sure if KU can afford to play small ball. Normally you sacrifice some defense and rebounding to gain shooting, but KU doesn't even really gain shooting by playing small. I think it's time for the Dave Lightfoot experience.

After watching some videos, Baugh is interesting. Defends, rebounds and drives. Passes are on target but of course they aren't going to show times where the passes are off. Still it's good to see passes hitting the exact right spot and not forcing his team mate to go get the ball. Guessing his jumper needs work, but that's okay as KU has already taken a couple good shooters in this class. Assuming that KU has heard they are out for Stanley (quite possible) going after Baugh makes sense. Stanley is a player that would never develop at KU. An all world athlete w/o a ton of basketball acumen that only plans to stay one year.

Sure but the team still hasn't played well in those games. Doke is very good when he is able to play.

The offense being stale is Self's fault. He recruited players that can't shoot and players to force the two big system again, when none of the bigs can shoot. It's a losing effort in modern basketball.

The last few games now have been awful from him. Turnovers, terrible shot selection, passes that even when they get to a team mate are not at a good spot which kills a potential play, loafing on D, loafing off the ball offensively etc....
It's no surprise that with Vick playing like this KU is 1-2 (EMU doesn't count) with the only win being against a bad OU team. Either Vick needs to pull himself together or get put on the bench.
