Another fun stat. Izzo is 47-19 in the tournament. Self is 42-18. Not that far off honestly. Though this year I would expect MSU to have a deeper run.

A couple of weeks ago he was a genius according to some posters...what difference a few games make.😎
Let it be noted that my stance on him has always been the same: wait and see. He never really did anything great at Pitt.
He is better than what they had though and their recruiting is on an uptick.
Bill is a stud. He gets it.
Also Bruce

All the hooplah, and Jamie Dixon and TCU are 1-4 in the league. It's a tough league I get it but they were projected to finish 2nd in the league by some. Eventually you gotta win some dang games.

Also Wake was spanked once again at the hands of Dook and now have a 8-9 record. Is the clock ticking on him? Hate to see him fail but would love for him to come work with Doke.
Wake does care about basketball so he might have a short leash at this point. He is recruiting well so he could get another year. Not sure he'd come back to KU. Also who would get the ax? It can't be Jerrance he brought in Grimes, Big Dave and maybe Romeo too.
I do agree though that we miss the work he did with our bigs.

Silvio wasn't great, but he was productive and didn't hurt KU in his few minutes. He looked like he belonged which is something to build on for him. He'll only get better the more he practices and plays in games and should be able to give KU a solid 8-10 minutes by the end of the year.
This sounds about right. Ease him in and prepare him to be the primary back-up (or start if Doke leaves) next season. He definitely has a D1 body wow.

I'm not a big fan of Izzo. Yet I have to hand it to him. He has had Coach's and KU's number.
Rock paper scissors.
Izzo Roy Self.
It's literally anyone's fault but Bruce. That's his MO.

Yea but if the Big 12 doesn't do well in the tournament? They will be called a weak conference.
If? lol
TCU fading unfortunately.
Bill Self: "We don't have the same teams of the past that we can pull away from folks. ... Any win is a good win, and we need to understand that."
OU down 1 with the ball 16 seconds left. :eyes:
Izzo gets blown out a lot in FFs too. Generally his teams are good in close tournament games though.
Trae Young consistently bails out OU he is great.

The WVU and TT game is going to be interesting. I think a TT victory just might be in order?
Meat grinder game wow.

Silvio is a long way off from helping us
Agree. I'd like to see more than 4 minutes but that won't happen against WVU.
He played as much as Mitch today, heh.
He is still a really good coach, I just think he is pretty overrated.
I would not want Izzo, he is a lazy recruiter. He would struggle even more at KS as he wouldn't have Michigan talent to fall back on.
Last two years he hasn't even made the S16. He has plenty of early exits, people just don't remember them.

@BShark We are we with our schollies? Now we have DeSousa, unless he has a monster second half, which I doubt, he will likely take some paper.
Amen to Dedric. I'm hearing some really solid info. This kid is going to be some what like BMac in terms of sitting out. He's definitely going to make a big contribution next year. He brings a lot to what will be needed.
If Doke returns, your returners with Marcus and Dedric are going to be interesting pieces for these incoming freshmen. Can you imagine what Doke and Dedric will provide to the bigs? DeSousa is a bonus.
If Vick leaves, look for KU to add two guards/wings. Adding Romeo is ideal if he leaves. The other addition (or only addition if Vick stays) will be developmental. Keep an eye on this kid: https://247sports.com/player/ochai-agbaji-46042163 ↗
Norm saw him play about a week ago and he visited KU on his own dime today for the game. Doesn't have an offer yet, but he has been crushing the local KS competition and should be the KC metro player of the year. He would be a likely redshirt his first season while he develops.
Dedric has proven it at the D1 level. The American isn't an amazing league but averaging 20 and 10 is incredible, and he has a year off to work out and get better. Much like Newman's year at MSST was a cautionary tale for expecting him to be great, Dedric's play while at Memphis is exciting.

Self saves Cunliffe, Mitch, for Morgantown full court press!!!
Self trusts Cunliffe as far as he can throw him.
Doke was all over the court today.
They lose so many regular season games they shouldn't. He gets routinely overrated due to fortuitous tournament runs.

@BShark The one advantage for DeSousa this year is that it will pay huge dividends for next year.
All I know is we deserve a break after this crazy year.
Absolutely. He will be much more ready to go and understand the schemes.

Next year is going to be so exciting. Dotson, Grimes, and McCormack? DeSousa? Sick. We even have an ever so slight chance of Doke for 1 more year? Also, I'm more convinced that we have a really good chance at Romeo. I'm almost convinced that he is in fact waiting on Vick. I really believe that if he was ready to commit to his top choice, he would've done it. I think he likes what is shaping in Lawrence next year.
Grimes will be the cornerstone.
Dotson will be the leader of the pack.
Big Dave and DeSousa will be huge in the lane. If Doke returns for 1 more little year, I think we just might be unstoppable.
Add Garrett's enormous experience as a soph, and it's going to be too FUN.
Don't sleep on Dedric I think he will be our best player next year. I think Dedric will be offensive option 1A and Grimes 1B. Dotson might be a little wild at first like Frank but I think he will be a hell of a PG by the time it is all said and done. The one thing Dotson really needs to do is work on his jump shot. I think in fact that his jumper is what keeps him in Lawrence for multiple seasons. The good thing there is he will be surrounded by decent shooters (except Garrett) especially if KU gets Romeo who is a walking three point bucket. Drive and dish, drive and dish.
Doke coming back would be incredible.
Play hard chart! Hang another banner in the Bram!
But did KSU play harder?

@hawkmoon2020 Optimus is right. This kid is going to be the cornerstone of the team. We've all been so focused on this year's drama, it's been hard to peak into next year.
Think about it...Dotson, Grimes, and McCormack? And this is just to name a few...add DeSousa, and the slight chance that Doke stays...YIKES.
I think McCormack won't really contribute until year 2 and will be a great two way player year 3 and 4.

@BShark This is obviously a rising star playing among average to below average HS talent. But 41 pts is sick. I always temper those numbers a bit as they enter D1 elite play. But Young has proven a young frosh pg can make an immediate impact. The biggest part of Young's game is his IQ. It actually promotes his other obvious talents.
Grimes has really good vision and PG skills for his size. I think he could be a better version/what we were hoping for Selden. I don't think he at at the level of Young but he will also have more talent around him.

I love this kid's swag. He is going to be Mason 2.0, or Reborn, or something. You name it, and it appears he will be pretty much what we need over the next year or two. Even Self himself, made the bold comparison to Collins, and Mason. I believe he is as tough/er than either other guard, and is equally talented, if not better. I'm really excited for this get.
Does anyone see a slight possibility of a redshirt for either Dotson or Markese? It's an interesting dilemma. Is it possible with Big Dave McCormack coming we could be a F4 contender for the next 1-3 years?
Markese doesn't come until 2 years from now. He still might redshirt though.
Dotson will not redshirt he will be the starting PG next year.
Thanks Bruce.

The 16-3 run they went on killed us......our offense went stagnant and they turned an 8 pt. deficit into a 5 point lead. Normally, if we hold a team to 34 at the half.......we've got a decent lead. A few missed layups early kept them in the game. Those 2 give ups.....one by Doke on the hustle play and one by DG late have really hurt us.
It was a pretty horrible offensive sequence. This team can be really bad or great it's bizarre.
Wade is a hell of a player, he really just doesn't take enough shots in most games.
Markese had 18 pts in a 71-53 win for Uplift last night.
He had 41 pts and 11 reb in that game.
I'd be thrilled with 10-15 minutes where he is a net positive on the court. Being able to give our guards a few more breathers will add up.
And yeah no way the NCAA is working on Saturday morning. KU simply waited to put this out.

I don't even dare bother with football recruiting. Most of the time those players won't even see the field for 1-2 years.
Bite your tongue, sometime in the future (could be a liftetime)KU football hires a great coach and gets in the running for a 5 star player. You'll totally be in it!
KU hiring a great coach might not happen before football becomes irrelevant due to lack of player interest due to CTE.
