Nothing good has come from having that car so far; second game he will miss because of it. Now KU is REALLY thin inside with Doke and Lightfoot.

7 scholarship players tonight. Sigh.

Michigan State packing the paint. Dukes lack of shooting is going to be problematic for them all year, as predicted

Tripper is their only guy that you have to respect on the 3 pt line.

Jaren Jackson is a player I was hoping KU would target...

No way in hell you take Butch Jones. Not even KU. Dude has to be a dead fish recruiting now.

Just asked around again on Grimes. Still Kansas.

Good to hear. Tonto seemed to have some solid insight on the situation, though you probably already read that.

When KJ is at the 4 it will be closer to small ball.

@jayballer54 I think that is the same article posted by @BShark 3 hours ago.

Correct.

Grimes appears to be a better shooter than Garrett but otherwise I would agree.

Screw that shopping mall.

@BeddieKU23 Agree about Moore. If next year's starting guard line-up is Dotson, Vick, Garrett I think that's pretty damn good.

4 OUT Small Ball • Nov 14, 2017 05:08 PM

I'm not sure this team has a go to scorer/assassin. Lots of really good players on the team though.

I definitely wouldn't be surprised if we lose. UK had ho-hum games against mid major teams that they probably did not really get up for. They will get up for us tonight - guarantee it. It will be close throughout, but I could see us pulling away late with some timely three pointers.

This is where I'm at with it. KU should win but a loss would not surprise me.

@BeddieKU23 Ryan/BHam made a post that generally mirrors my thoughts on 247 except I think I am a BIT higher on Moore. He tends to be on the negative side so everyone keep that in mind as I quote this. He is however, generally knowledgeable and has a good read on what the staff is thinking.

"I think KU is looking at Dotson, Vick, and Garrett right now as the perimeter for next season. Add Grimes and you've got a really nice core 4 to spread minutes too.

Charlie Moore is good for depth, and if Vick leaves, he gives you some more scoring punch by sliding into that group of 4. I'm still not entirely sure on the Moore take, though, as it still seems a bit odd to me.

Not as odd as taking Cunliffe, who I'm not sure will ever play meaningful minutes, barring injuries.

If KU adds Grimes, I expect Dotson, Vick, Garrett is probably the day 1 starting guards, with Grimes likely being the first guy off the bench. If Vick goes, that makes things murkier because KU might want to avoid 2 freshman as the ballhandlers alongside Garrett from the outset.

I don't think KJ ultimately plays as anything but a small-ball 4 like Josh or Billy."

SILVIO DESOUSA • Nov 14, 2017 03:55 PM

@jayballer54 Me too man, but I don't think the staff would have been that interested in a 6'1'' fat center like myself. :joy:

Yeah Brase is hurt and Lard is in the toughening box.

Didn't Brase miss a few years of basketball being hurt? Now he's hurt again.

Time to cut ship on Lard, this is what year 3 in the program for him without playing (at least to date)..

Yeah Brase has been hurt almost his entire career. It's been his knees every time so that's pretty rough.

I think this is Lard's 2nd year in the program. Redshirted last year due to academics I believe.

Yeah Brase is hurt and Lard is in the toughening box.

Everything sounding good! Also of note he plans to stay beyond this season for sure, in case anyone was worried about that.

SILVIO DESOUSA • Nov 14, 2017 02:38 PM

This kid is fantastic, I love him already!

De Sousa said Monday he was elated to hear KU announced his signing to an official letter. “It’s a pretty good feeling, amazing to sign with a school you like,” De Sousa said in a phone conversation. “I’ve been working on my game, doing it all my life (since he was 10 back in Angola). Just to get to know where I’m going to play at this level, it’s a great day.” He made just one official visit, choosing KU over Maryland and others. “I fell in love with the school,” he said. “I didn’t want to be the type of guy to just go to four or five different schools to visit when you already know where to go. Once I got there it was amazing. In short answer, I would say Kansas is the best place to be. It’s like my dream school. I decided to make the dream come true,” he added, noting his dad, who played professionally overseas, has long been a fan of KU’s style of play. “The coaches teach you things on and off the court,” De Sousa said. “They are tough on you in practices and games. They care about you.”

@jayballer54 Aaron Rodgers says r-e-l-a-x.

@HighEliteMajor Just what I've seen mentioned from people that would know re: Cunliffe. I don't see him contributing much this year or next. His best case next year is 5th in the guard rotation (which is pretty great for KU).

I think Newman would go play in a foreign league over another year of college. $$$.

BeddieKU23 said:

Vick had 23 points in the 1st game. If he has a similar game tonight in front of a million scouts and eyes he's going to start getting a ton of looks.

Obviously coming back as a senior could have its benefits. Seen Frank do it, seen Devonte do it. That could be important to him seeing the path that others have made coming back. Vick has what the NBA wants though which is different then Frank & Devonte's position to stay. I think that is a significant factor that Vick is viewed as a NBA player. We have to factor in that all his boys that he came in with could be gone as well. As many as 7 new faces next year.

Yeah if he is consistently filling it up he will probably go. Can't blame him in that case. It also means KU likely had a great year.

I feel you on the most people he came in with being gone. No doubt he knows the Lawsons well though, along with Tarik Black he helped reel them in. :)

Cunliffe is a non-factor. Newman is leaving. I don't know how sold Grimes is on those facts but that's the truth.

I do think there is a real chance Vick stays.

KU made Romeo's final three and he is waiting until spring so if you still don't think KU is in that recruitment I don't know what to tell you there.

Anyway @jayballer54 , I'm starting to feel uneasy about Grimes as well.

We may be in for a down year in the Big 12. That could also threaten our conference streak if we don't feel challenged and try to sleep through league play.

I don't think it's may at this point. I need to see more though.

TCU and UT probably the biggest threats right now.

It will suck if he picks UT, I'll have to not load the phog for a couple days at least, lol. It won't be ideal but KU would be alright next season.

RockkChalkk said:

I'm a little nervous about this one for some reason, can anybody ease my nerves about it and tell me there isn't anything to worry about? haha.

Sorry I can't, I still remember Ayton.

Wigginton will be good in time. He needs more talent around him though. Good for them is that they have a solid class coming in (Horton-Tucker is going to be a 4 year annoyance like Niang and Griffin had a KU offer). Plus more development from current players they have that I think will be good in time like Lewis and Lard. Maybe they will be a bit better when Lard is back. He is apparently is Prohm's toughening box. They also will have two really good sit-out transfers available next year in Shayok and Jacobson. This appears to be a stop-gap/rebuilding year for them, and it's going to be painful. Looks like their tournament streak could end.

Sidenote: OMG cyclonefanatic right now is amazing.

@KirkIsMyHinrich Or in Lawrence even like last year. Superbowl and all that. They appear to be a garbage shooting team through two games so it would be extra painful this year.

Woof

A pretty knowledgeable and tied in poster said that he thinks Dotson and Grimes will both start for KU, but neither will be playing AHEAD OF Marcus Garrett, who he said is a complete stud.

@BeddieKU23

@jayballer54 Pretty good week brother! Helps keep my mind off other things...

Announces his announcement when Bill Self is down in Houston. Interesting.

Langford • Nov 13, 2017 06:31 PM

Yeah, you give Romeo the starting spot because Garrett seems like the kid that just dgaf and will eat up minutes off the bench. Dotson, Grimes and Romeo start, but Garrett and Moore both get respectable minutes.

I agree that we are in a good spot. I think we've been recruiting him a lot longer then Indiana's new staff and Vandy. So that could also play a factor.

If its business decision he's a Hawk. For Romeo waiting until spring after the Louisville fiasco is the best business decision. That way he knows who exactly is leaving

Huge plus that he is waiting. An early emotional decision would have been IU imo.

Plus it gives him time to fully see the dumpster + 5 alarm tire fire that IU is. The kid, like any kid, wants to win.

Also Vanderbilt is a Nike school.

Bill obviously thinks Silvio is an immediate impact and believes he should be a top five recruit if not for playing over in Africa. He would be the third big and would be a much better option than Mitch, who, bless his heart, doesn't have the size to battle against athletic bigs and doesn't do anything offensively. The dude can ball with the best of 'em.

Yeah, Self seems pumped.

This doesn't help Vandy? Selling Langford with Garland? Wasn't that Indiana's pitch as well.

A lot of wing/perimeter players at Vandy. I counted at least 7.

If we know for sure one of our perimeter players leaves that should give KU the edge in the spring.

Sure seems like KU is in a great spot here. I've said it before and I'll say it again I love hearing "business decision" from the dad.

BeddieKU23 said:

It's also nice knowing that spring recruiting for once isn't a mad scramble. It's looking like this is working out perfectly for the staff

In part because of the mad scramble last year.

SILVIO DESOUSA • Nov 13, 2017 05:01 PM

@dylans KU didn't do anything wrong directly, I'm fairly sure of that. We'd be foolish to believe absolutely nothing happened though. The outlook on Doke changed from "Nike kid going to a Nike school" to ending up at KU.

The alternative was not recruiting top level players at all.
