@jayballer54

Not the kind of player that gets forced out. Great kid to have in the program so if he leaves it's likely his decision but I don't think he would. Who here was close with his family, @globaljaybird I think?

@jayballer54

No. Wouldn't surprise me if he took a red shirt year at some point though.

@JayHawkFanToo

Is Director of Basketball Operations open for their dad? :grinning:

@RockkChalkk

My personal belief.

Also with the success KU had with Tarik Black and Lagerald Vick, and now possibly these kids as well KU is cleaning up in Memphis. There is a top 50-ish SG in Memphis in the 18 class in TJ Moss. Will be interesting to see if KU gets involved there.

Yes sir.

@RockkChalkk

Yes you are correct, TECHNICALLY zero, but Josh is gone.

@BeddieKU23

Love Lucas, but Doke is capable of many things Lucas was not physically.

@RockkChalkk

Agree I think Juiston would be a good fit. If only he had a jump shot, he'd be unreal.

@Kcmatt7

Mitch maaaaaybe? I don't know though.

@BeddieKU23

I think if there is just one scholarship then it does go to a big, Juiston or Kanter probably.

@RockkChalkk

Staff looking at Juiston and Kanter still.

We have one open spot for one!

This is interesting. I think Svi is probably gone. Staff def wants another guard too, and I think it will be Allen (they want Duval too but lol). Really need two scholarships for it to work how they want, and there is no point is putting Coleby out to pasture since he will likely be a part of next year's post rotation.

This is a fantastic move imo. Really takes pressure off getting post players in 2018.

@BeddieKU23

Dedric just one year for sure (honestly thought he would just go pro) but I could see his brother graduating. Depends on how it goes I suppose.

@approxinfinity

Yes sir. And this STUD is their cousin: http://247sports.com/Player/DJ-Jeffries-84187 ↗

Also they have family members in the pipeline that are studs, legit NBA prospects.

Hopefully continuing the tradition of success of the Morris twins and Tarik Black.

It's the Lawsons coming to KU. BOOM!

Matt Scott is extremely and incredibly excited right now.

Did Clemons by chance go to schools that no longer exist? That's my biggest concern is the NCAA just throws out anything to do with Prime Prep/API and his associated classes from there.

He made up like 24 credits over ONE summer. I mean he didn't REALLY but yeah.

Honestly I'm just as concerned as you about Preston. But I did find Self's comments interesting in response, almost makes it sound as if he knows something the public doesn't about his eligibility.

We will probably know around the time practices start up for the Italy trip whether he's good to go or not . I don't believe he'd be able to play on that trip if there is a hold up. The wait continues whether our concerns are overblown or not.

The "quick twitch 4 man" sounded like he was indirectly saying Shakur Juiston. He's a quick twitch 4 man that Self is after..

If Missouri can get Ricky Clemons eligible, and KU can get Cheick eligible, I'm not overly concerned about Preston. It might take some summer school, but it should be very doable.

Definitely referring to Juiston.

Updated OP removing Harris and moved Mark Smith to "Nope". He visited MSU recently and reportedly loved it, plus they really need him. Only actually removing players once they commit though.

@BeddieKU23

Same story at all his stops so far. Good crootin, bad basketball.

@BeddieKU23 said:

Blake Harris ended up at Mizzou. I take back anything nice I said about the kid for that decision

Ha.

When I first read about this when it came across twitter I was thinking really you can't do better than this? I'm not sure why anyone thinks Martin will win much of anything at MU. We are talking about a coach that went 23-11 with Jaylen Brown, Ivan Rabb, JR Jabari Bird plus a couple other experienced guards.

Momma Graham too.

@SkinnyKansasDude I actually can't wait to see Young struggle against some real DEFENSE. This high school wussy defense that makes you look like an NBA all-star is deceivingly ridiculous. Young will struggle at the next level. Graham will take him to school.

I look forward to seeing Garrett beat Young just like he did in HS. :grinning:

@Blown

Thanks for the info. I've seen a lot of conflicting things on Svi. Hope your uncle is right.

Accidental Perfection • Apr 10, 2017 12:18 AM

@BeddieKU23

Definitely. If he comes to KU I hope he toughs it out. Honestly I hope he redshirts next season, because that means he is really committed for the long haul at KU. I think in his JR/SR years, he will be a really nice all around player with the way this staff has developed guards.

Pretty much every player that actually played and redshirted has been a smashing success during Self's KU tenure. Releford, Lucas, Brady. Some would argue Jamari is a disappointment but considering he was pretty much NR out of HS I do not.

Only counting actual redshirts not transfers that had to redshirt a year.

DG news! • Apr 10, 2017 12:15 AM

@BeddieKU23

The staff nailed it locking down Garrett early.

As for the PG thing he will never, imo, play the lead guard position for KU. I do think though that he will handle the ball and facilitate a lot, particularly by his JR year (assuming he is still around) so it's a little bit of semantics.

Accidental Perfection • Apr 10, 2017 12:11 AM

@Kubie

I will never bash a kid that commits to KU. I'll be honest though. Like with Thomas Allen if he picks KU, it's not to contribute next year. He could be a transfer candidate, but we know Self likes to fill the roster. No harm in that imo, Self usually finds the kid a nice place to land.

@jayballer54

:love_letter:

Oh and I updated the first post. Only question is Svi now.

@Texas-Hawk-10

Could be a situation where KU spreads the ball so well that another player sneaks out with the award. Agree though, any of those three could have a monster year.

@jayballer54

Yes KU has a shot. It's KU or ISU based on everything I've read.

DG news! • Apr 09, 2017 11:22 PM

@HighEliteMajor

Yep. I prefer him to Duval for this reason, plus Duval has no trey ball. I hope Svi is back as well.

@Crimsonorblue22

DG, Vick, Newman, Cunliffe, Garrett, Coleby, Preston, Doke, Mitch. 3 if Svi comes back, 4 if not.

Comments from Self in article.

Also per Tait according to Self Svi has not decided either way yet.

DG news! • Apr 09, 2017 09:39 PM

@BeddieKU23

Definitely a post player. Then Thomas Allen as a project guard.

@Crimsonorblue22

He would have over Svi.

DG news! • Apr 09, 2017 09:32 PM

I never thought KU would get Duval either way, as is well documented. I'd love to somehow be wrong though.

DG news! • Apr 09, 2017 09:31 PM

@BeddieKU23

Staff is still recruiting Duval. So it might eliminate KU because of Duval, but not because of the KU coaches.

DG news! • Apr 09, 2017 09:28 PM

@Crimsonorblue22

Don't think so. Staff still wants Duval and would 100% play Duval/Graham/Newman starting line-up. Duval knows he is starting wherever he goes anyway.

Allen is a long term project that knows he isn't starting even if Graham didn't come back. So I can't see who KU has been recruiting that Graham waiting to announce would impact.

DG news! • Apr 09, 2017 09:21 PM

@BeddieKU23

Graham, Newman, Vick, Preston, Doke. That's a salty starting 5 which doesn't even take into account the bench.

Danny.

DG news! • Apr 09, 2017 09:13 PM

Accidental Perfection • Apr 09, 2017 08:30 PM

I do believe that if Newman wasn't on the roster Self would have landed a PG in this class. Still it was rough missing on a bunch again this year. At least Jacobs is on board for 19. Hopefully the staff can land some good guards in 18.

Accidental Perfection • Apr 09, 2017 08:23 PM

Very minor thing to comment on but the KUsports article only citing the Rivals ranking is silly. Jerry Meyer was touting Mason HARD when he committed to KU. Saying KU got a steal etc... Not sure his 247 ranking at the time but he ended up #52. ESPN and Scout didn't even rank him which is absurd. Though with ESPN it's that they didn't rank post grads, possible that they still don't. However I don't check ESPN much because they are a joke and the worst of the recruit ranking websites.

Oh and the Harrison twins were perceived OADs, but they did stay a 2nd year at UK.

Not many top 10 players make it to their third year removed from HS playing college ball, obviously.

But a quick look at some recent players that have, and their numbers that season.

Justin Jackson - 18/4.7/2.8 ACC POY

Kasey Hill - 9/2.4/3.3 (many KU fans wanted this guy over Mason)

Some kid that commited to Arizona over KU - 9/5

Alex Poythress -injured and barely played. SR year 10/6

JMM - 14/6.8/1.7

Le'Bryan Nash - 13.9/5.5/1.6

Doesn't happen nearly as much with guards. The only case back to the 2011 recruiting class is Kasey Hill, an obvious bust.

Without a doubt Newman would have frustrated this fanbase if he picked KU initially. He was simply an inefficient chucker at MSU. The staff has been thrilled with him though, and if he puts in the work (from the sound of it he is) he can still prove to be a special player.

Don't think it's good to compare Newman and BMac. Newman can ACTUALLY DRIBBLE. Still love BMac though.

Newman will definitely be a contender for conference player of the year and this is assuming Graham comes back. Newman was in a tough spot his FR year and was judged harshly for it. Even if he really wasn't top 10 good, simply being in his third year removed from HS he will put up good numbers.
