@JayHawkFanToo

Nice in theory but what has Bragg or Coleby done to lead you to believe they are capable of a 6 game sustained run? Then again that might be asking too much in general, just patch 5 games (the first game is essentially free, NO WHAMMY NO WHAMMY NO WHAMMY NO JINX) together out of the entire post composite. Louisville worries me with their bigs, maybe they will choke.

While we are talking about Bruce...

I was watching a game last weekend. A coach got a tech for going "outside the coaches box". He had like a damn foot over. HOW DOES BRUCE NOT GET EJECTED EVERY GAME?

@wissox

If it wasn't for that damn juggernaut perfect Calimari storm in 2012, that KU squad was a team of destiny.

Some quick hitter comments.

You listing those ideal centers, makes me realize just how spoiled we as KU fans have been in that regard until recently.

The bright side of the comparison with defenses is that the worst team (2011 UCONN) had Kemba go beast mode, maybe Frank can be a facsimile of Kemba's legendary tournament run.

Personally I don't lump in 2015 with 2010 and 2011. The 2015 team had so many losses. I know the mystery of Embiid is reason for some, but imo post play isn't the reason the Stanford game was lost. Black played the game of his life in that game honestly, though he did foul out iirc.

I would certainly agree that this particular KU team, is a bit smoke and mirrors. When you are this porous on defense, you have to be so so good on offense. As I was saying earlier in a discussion with other posters, this KU team could easily have 7-8 losses with a few different breaks of the ball. Arguing otherwise is foolish. Now there is the old adage you are what your record says you are, and this team definitely has grit, which gives me a bit more hope.

Lucas is definitely the only dependably post player, and even Lucas would admit he isn't great. He's great for this team in that he does enough and is smart on offense, but he can't be relied on to get critical baskets, the skillset just isn't there.

Agree this has been Self's best coaching job at KU. Somewhat ironically because Udoka got injured, but we will never know how everything would have progressed with Doke.

Oregon no longer has Boucher, that hurts them a lot.

I agree, said it Sunday when I saw the brackets this is a GREAT path. Dodged UVA, WSU and Zona which were all teams I felt would beat KU. Also I would agree Wisconsin is one of the better 8/9s.

There is no way Marshall considers the Missouri job. He is already one of the top 10 paid coaches and I don't believe MU would comes even close to matching what he makes now, but more importantly, Marshall has passed on much better opportunities. Martin? Maybe but not Marshall.

I understand all major schools circulate all kinds of big names but it does not mean the coaches are even remotely interested.

I was gonna say this when I saw Jayballer's post. NC State is eyeing Marshall. He is from NC. Also, NC State has small man syndrome like GREGGGGGG. A match made in heaven iyam.

Squeaky looks like he might take this one.

Yes KU is recruiting him. If the staff gets the vibe that he will leave Florida then expect him to be a priority target.

My top option right now would be Brad Stevens but he isn't a realistic option. It's too hard guessing hopefully 10+ years away though.

KU Buckets Bracket Challenge! • Mar 14, 2017 06:01 PM

I entered the group. My FF is Zona, Nova, Louisville, UK. Got Nova over UK for the ship.

Got us going out to Miami second game. ISU/UL EE game in our region.

Yeah not too worried about the first game either way.

I hope we get UC Davis in the first game. PAYBACK TO THEIR COACH. He coached Bradley from 2002-2011.

Keep forgetting Garrett! And he's my favorite player in the class. I say just let him play I still think he'll facilitate offense at whatever position he's playing

The season after next with SO Garrett and SR Juiston (if KU lands him) would just be ridiculous bbiq.

And ya I agree I don't know that Garrett would officially be the PG but you can start the offense through him.

@BeddieKU23 said:

@JayHawkFanToo

Yep. Sexton and Young.

TREMONT WATERS BACK IN PLAY • Mar 13, 2017 06:55 PM

@JayHawkFanToo said:

This is how you recruit him, you tell him...Tremont, you are Frank Mason 4 years ago and look at him now...SOLD!

I bet he'd take the minutes at Syracuse. Depends on what kind of kid he is but it's hard to turn down minutes at a big program.

@drgnslayr said:

@BeddieKU23

I see it like this:

Devonte = PG - 2

Malik = 2 - 3

Vick = 2 - 3

Svi = 3 - 4

I still think we have room for a PG coming in and getting some big minutes his freshman year.

Cunliffe and Garrett on the roster too. If Graham and Svi both stay, it's hard for incoming recruits to not just see 6 guards.

TREMONT WATERS BACK IN PLAY • Mar 13, 2017 06:52 PM

@BeddieKU23

Bill the Wizard. I think it would depend a lot on the class. Close on Grimes and land some top end posts (minutes will be there to sell at least) and the team is probably winning the league again.

@Ralph said:

People keep saying 2018 is a weak class. How can you tell what they will become 2 years before they graduate high school?

It's relative but evaluators that have made these comments before have typically been proven right at the college and NBA level. 2019 class appears stocked with NBA talent.

TREMONT WATERS BACK IN PLAY • Mar 13, 2017 06:38 PM

@BeddieKU23

Agree but it appears to be the way it is shaping up unfortunately*. Barring some program player additions this Spring. Which is why I'd love to add Mark Smith and Shakur Juiston. Then you have guys with a year in the program going into 2018.

*Preston thinks he is OAD and I could easily see Doke going after next year as well as Bragg if he survives this offseason. Then looking at the guards obviously Graham and Svi are gone regardless of what happens this year, Newman and Cunliffe want to be gone after next year.

So Vick, Garrett and Lightfoot plus late 17 recruits and any 18 recruits. Could lead to a top 18 recruiting class for KU but a tough season...

TREMONT WATERS BACK IN PLAY • Mar 13, 2017 06:31 PM

@BeddieKU23

Yeah I don't think it will be KU but if he does I think it would work out well for both parties.

Good thing is next year KU will have lots of PT to sell at most positions, bad thing is it isn't a great class.

1st Round Upsets • Mar 13, 2017 06:28 PM

Baylor sucks.

I do think ISU will reach the S16.

WVU is interesting. ND will be tough for them but I could also see them beating the Zags.

TREMONT WATERS BACK IN PLAY • Mar 13, 2017 06:20 PM

Pencil Newman in as a starter. Erase only if injured.

And yeah too many programs for a top 3o player to go to over being a back-up for a bigger program. Even UK had a thin back court this year...

1st Round Upsets • Mar 13, 2017 06:09 PM

El poyo would get to post I told you so if that happens.

TREMONT WATERS BACK IN PLAY • Mar 13, 2017 06:05 PM

Blah, but it makes a lot of sense. Syracuse has max minutes to offer.

Swanigan is Purdue's only post that is actually good fwiw.

NCAA Favorite • Mar 13, 2017 02:44 PM

ISU fans seem to think they are the favourite. Certainly they will not be losing to KU, be it because they beat KU or KU loses to Mia/MSU. EE minimum for ISU according to 99% of their fanbase.

TREMONT WATERS BACK IN PLAY • Mar 13, 2017 02:13 PM

@BeddieKU23

Duke doesn't worry me provided they get Duval. No idea about AZ's roster though.

TREMONT WATERS BACK IN PLAY • Mar 13, 2017 02:05 PM

As far as 18 recruits if we get Waters I think you risk not getting Dotson. Dotson isn't that much better. Keep prioritizing Grimes either way.

TREMONT WATERS BACK IN PLAY • Mar 13, 2017 02:01 PM

@BeddieKU23 said:

Waters is electric with the ball, around the same size as Frank Mason. Wish his outside shot was more consistent but he has excellent vision and can run a team from day-1. He will need to add significant weight to his frame in College.

If Waters looks at KU this time around I'm conflicted about what that means for an impact on 2018 recruits. I know we should only be worried about what next year will be like without Frank but Self has clearly prioritized some point guards in 18 already with IMO more potential and signing Waters will compromise our chances with them. That's how it goes these days, nobody wants to come in and earn their PT.

The best case scenario is the recent talk of Devonte coming back, happens. We find another guard with ability for depth behind Devonte and roll with some combination of Graham, Newman, Vick Cunliffe, Garrett, Svi?, (insert guard recruit/transfer).

Mason wasn't known for his shooting when he signed at KU (Graham was tho), I think Waters would make a good choice if he came to KU.

@KUSTEVE Here's why I'm not very concerned with either Miami or Michigan St. this year, neither team can score this year. Both teams are sub 200 in scoring offense. KU just needs to reach 65 against either team and they win.

Both teams are GARBAGE. Then possible S16 match-up against ISU (they won't be that hot again) or Purdue who yes has a couple good post players but their guards suck.

@kjayhawks

From what I understand Wade would have picked KSU even if KU offered.

Also yeah Self has definitely had success with skilled but not super athletic KS players like Reed and Brady. Probably kids that Self doesn't even take if they aren't from KS given Self's desire to go for athleticism over basketball skills.

I didn't mention Releford because he was a top 50 kid like Ellis. It's been so long that I don't exactly remember his other offers. He popped for KU early but lots of other schools were interested including a few big time programs iirc.

@BShark I think Pyle could be a Travis Releford type of guy. Watch Lightfoot and Ellis's highschool tapes. Then watch him and tell me he ain't just as good or better. Honestly I think he's as good as Lightfoot at this time.

Perry was a top 40 player and a McDAA, this kid doesn't have anything beyond a hudl/maxpreps account. You could end up being right, I'll definitely go over his hudl when I have the time.

Do we know if he even likes KU fwiw? He's from hayseed/POWERTUCK territory like Dean Wade...

Don't think UK or Duke will be in play the second time around since they have or are about to land their PG(s).

@Crimsonorblue22 said:

@BShark go over waters again, please. Thx

Not truly elite but a multi-year guy that is WAY better than the other realistic options for KU at this pt. Taking him might hurt chances with 2018 pgs, but a bird in the hand...

@kjayhawks said:

I tell you what there is a 6'7 kid from McPherson that is junior this year, that I've watched play a few times named Ben Pyle that looks better than Perry Ellis did in highschool. We need to give him a look I think.

Not sure he is a D1 recruit.

@cragarhawk said:

@Crimsonorblue22 really... I didn't know. Went to a prep academy I assume? Senior this year? Are we not recruiting him?

He wanted the hell out of Kansas.

@kjayhawks said:

@cragarhawk I don't think so, but they have Lester Earl's kid. I watched some it on the web and that Pyle kid put up 25 vs guys getting D1 offers. Mac had their chances BM is just too big and athletic.

JRE on the other hand is a legacy and the kind of player Self really likes.
