Really good point about the difference in recruiting. Shaka was used to 4 year players and also since it was VCU being able to recruit 3 star/NR that fit his system without issue because who at VCU is going to look at their recruiting classes and care?

Also he really was just never that good at VCU. He never should have made the tournament the year they shocked us. 11 losses going in, 4th in their rummy conference and didn't win their conference tournament. Shaka's best season at VCU was the year after with 7 losses and his last two years they flamed out in the first round of the NCAA tournament. Shaka was always a farce.

I'm interested to see what kind of developmental prospects Self rounds out the class with. Lately it's been positive (Graham, Svi, Vick) but we have also seen plenty of Merv, Tharpe, Adams etc...

Lots of really good Texas talent tbh, ends up all over UK, Duke etc... Randle and Bolden in particular even though KU is and will be fine were tough ones where KU was on them early and couldn't close.

Yeah we could be looking at a situation where KU has Bragg, Preston, Doke and Coleby all coming off the books. That would leave Maxwell, Lightfoot and Wooten if he comes to KU. That's three bench level guys unless Wooten really develops and that is if he comes to KU. Really early to be projecting this far out but intriguing to say the least.

They all count obviously but Self is pretty close to Garrett's high school coach Paul Graham (KC area guy originally, was an assistant with Self at OSU). The bright side there is if they produce more D1 talent it's pretty likely the kid ends up at KU I would think.

Grimes is a great get for sure, if he helps with Liddell that would be fantastic. Liddell is a stud. Looks like AZ, UK and UT are all heavily involved in that one.

KU still hasn't actually offered yet tbf. If he does get a KU offer I think he'd be nuts to go to Arky over KU considering their style of play.

I was prognosticating a bit here. I'm just not sure who KU sits well with among 2018 post players and it is an extremely weak class in general. Not getting Bagley, Reid or Moses Brown. Bol Bol is likely going to St Johns. Not sure how hard KU is going after McCormack especially considering Self's aversion to this kind of player. Oturu looks like a quality player that KU will go after but Self is going to have to sign a lot more than 1 post player in the class. Maybe Gordon will decommit from SLU at some point. I'm not worried that Self will sign some kids, I just wonder who they will be and I could see the staff taking a flier on a kid like Vanover or Fitzmorris.

I feel like if KU gets Young, we are in for some very real growing pains as that would be three likely starters (Young, Newman, Preston) that have very sticky hands. The potential however if that team clicked and played team ball would be through the roof.

I wonder what the score in the KU game would have been tonight if Self didn't just throw out the last 7 minutes. Not that it matters one bit, probably 103+.
