App St scored 40 in the 4th quarter. Swiss Cheese D in Raleigh
About gave me a hear attack with the fumble on the goal-line & the subsequent redicilous ref's at the end but man that was thrilling to win on a blocked extra point. We dominated most of the game which was great to see. Way too early to tell if we're "back" or still on the way but that was encouraging.
They have a bottom 5 roster in all of Power 5. No idea how he's making lemons into lemonade with 1, 1 big-12 level player on his roster
Updated 247 ranks for those that missed. Their rankings not the composite.
KU targets
Elmarko Jackson #18 (big jump)
Mikey Williams #19
Jamari McDowell #42 (big jump)
Dennis Evans #27
Taishon Chatman #31
Elijah Gertrude #36 (big jump)
The biggest LOL I've seen yet from this organization
perfect the Combo 5 out
KU recruiting 5 star PG Boogie Fland from NY. UNC & Kentucky other blue bloods involved besides others. Very early in his process
FYI Yates set an official to Texas
Jamari Phillips released a top 6 with KU in it. 5 star guard prospect is from Cali so unlikely but he's taken a unofficial here already and has a good relationship with Coach T.
Kansas: “Coach Townsend has been in contact with my parents a lot before he was able to get in contact with me. I know he believes in me a lot and is always calling. When the live period hit he was one of the first coaches to call. He really believes in me and wants to help me get in and out while winning a national championship. He’s really a great guy and we have a really great relationship.”
Keyontae Johnson signs with Kansas St.

If Self really wants this kid there shouldn't be any issue getting this 7'2 behemoth here
Agree but not convinced that we will put the hammer down here.
His ranking seems to be heavily based on potential down the line. There's certainly intrigue and his size/athleticism/defensive ability stick out but I do agree there seems to be a bit of treading water here from us. And I think with who's also involved in his recruitment (lack of other blue bloods) or high level P5 schools we can assume enough.
Dennis Evans mentions KU, TCU & Minnesota as programs in his recruitment & wanting to visit them.

Interesting...
Ian Jackson the #2 player in the 24 class had this to say about KU. Wants to take an OV
Kansas: “The talks with their staff have been great. I like the program, the winning culture there, and how they play. Me being able to watch them this past year in the Final Four led me to look at them differently. I love the program and I love the coaches there. I feel like I would be good there.”

Elmarko Jackson blurb. No wonder why Self is after him, Frank Mason mentioned vibes
If his resume from last month did not speak enough volumes, Elmarko Jackson once again has completely taken advantage of the platform presented to him.
The biggest thing that blew me away when watching him play was his ability to get wherever he needed to with a combination of elite burst and physicality. He brings Frank Mason vibes due to his strength, athleticism, and high evolving skill level.
The month of July was great to him as he collected in eye-opening offers from the likes of Kansas, UCLA, and Villanova. Add in schools such as Miami, Maryland, and Texas in the picture, and we are talking about a point guard who is bound to make a leap in the rankings because of his ability to immediately help each of those programs win in some form or fashion.*

OK, so I got lost , who is this ElMarko Jackson's blurb talking about here that we are recruiting ? Wit the Frank Mason mention.
PG target. Looks like he will be seeing a bump in his rank and he reminds one of the 247 guys of Mason. Already a 4 star prospect

When I popped on some video man he sure looked like Marcus Garrett. Good film, fits what Self likes in Combo Guards. I'm happy with their approach here in the backcourt in a down class.
KU did not make TJ Power's Top 5. Definitely was trending that way. He's bound for one end or the other end of tobacco road if I had to guess

Article on 247 this morning mentioned Gertrude being very similar to Jaden Ivey when Ivey was a prep prospect. I’m intrigued…
Watched some youtube and he is intriguing. Athleticism and length are there for sure.
Sounds like he is going to see a major bump in rankings soon. If he sets a visit here I'm very intrigued to see if they press, they seem legitimately interested in him
one time target Scottie Middleton commits to Ohio St
Snacks is no longer with Texas.. what a fall from the top
Seems like his style of play is a great fit here. Aggressive, maybe overly aggressive at times that create the maturity issues noted. Seems like a kid that has a great set of tools already that will get fine-tuned with coaching & more experience.
Very excited about him. I think a very important development for Chris is going to Montverde this year where he'll be coached up and play top competition. As several people who've scouted him have said his on-court maturity needs work when things don't go his way. It will be interesting to hear how he handles this transition before College. If he handles his business at Montverde that bodes well for playing under Self.
His driving ability absolutely reminds of Devon Dotson with more size. Very excited to see what he'll become in the future
Welcome Chris you made the right choice.

What I learned from Arkansas fans (as they were hot on Johnson as well)- they think their home arena is better then Allen Fieldhouse. You can't make this stuff up
Their thread about this on the 247 board is solid gold. Musselman is better than Self! LOL
Talk about a fanbase drinking some serious Kool aid from a pond in the Ozarks
Arkansas borders Missouri. Rly makes u think.
I should have known. My geography was slipping today

About as good of a trio as is realistically possible.
TJ Power would be other one I'd want but doesn't feel like we are in a great position there currently.
Sounds like KU did a really good job with Johnson on his visit. 247 guy is close to putting in a CB. Jeremy Case leading the recruitment here. Sounds very, very promising!
It's summer and the Coach K 30 for 30 isn't done yet. :face_vomiting:
KU made AJ Johnson's top 8 (plus he's considering G-League). No visit to KU set up although he mentions possibly setting something up. Doesn't seem to know much about KU at this stage. I'd consider this one an extreme longshot
Playing at Montverde as well which is one of the premiere schools. I'm hopeful here. I really like his game.
His scouting report from 247 was interesting.
Johnson is a big guard with size and strength alike. He changes speeds, protects the ball at a high level going through the lane, and can score the ball in numerous ways inside the arc. He needs to keep progressing as a three-point threat with both inconsistent mechanics and a bit of a hard ball. Defensively, he has tools that should eventually be able to translate at a high level, although he has yet to make that end of the floor a consistent priority. Overall, he is confident, physical, and plays with an edge, that can be either a competitive advantage or disadvantage depending on how it is impacting him.
From all I've seen and heard KU players did really well with NIL this year especially with the Championship post tour run. I see KU making innovative moves to stay competitive in the shark infested waters. It was though interesting to hear it from Self that he doesn't think its where it needs to be to compete in this climate.
I think our recent title is why Mikey & Bronny are interested. Looks good for their brand. Doesn't hurt KU at all either if they show love.
Quote from Self recently..
Self: “Let’s just call it like it is. If you go to a school and you’re not driving a brand-new car within the first month that you’re there, then someone’s not doing their job. … All of the kids can have agents now. Everybody can have an agent. … It’s out of control. It hasn’t been out of control (at Kansas). We’re actually quite a bit behind, I think. Hopefully, we’ll get caught up.”
The report also made it sound as if Self & T were held out during Spring recruiting period as well.
Don't think Kaden Cooper is a target. He visited Gonzaga & is looking to set up visits to LSU, Texas & Alabama.

I would tend to agree with this. I am surprised we are even giving an inch at this point.
I guess we'll see, at some point, maybe? Historically programs that have self-imposed penalties don't get brownie points with the NCAA
I hate this move
Unless it's truly a penalty they are taking in advance I see zero reason to play this game
Chris Johnson taking an official on June 25th. Perhaps that will be one to seriously watch!
Not sure the staff has pushed for a commitment from anyone. They have had plenty of visitors but all of them are still going through the process. It's a down class as well so I think that adds to being selective. Personally I hope we turn the heat up. I think we will see enough turnover to need 3/4 guys. Take 1-2 guys early and then focus on best available in portal and late signing guys.
I know a lot of guys are coming off the board early so I get the concern.
AD Travis Goff hoped there would be resolution to KU case in 2022 but "does not know if that will happen". Does not have any new info to share.
Yepp. Guess the 41pt effort caught their attention. Would be a "4" here. Can shoot it and has good ball skills. Looks like he's taken OV's to UVA & Iowa so far.
CB & Och did not have great scoring games.
Cbs team is straight garbage outside him tho
I think they will be on the worst teams in Power 5. Not one of the 7 transfers is a game changer. Nowell was a pain for us last year but that's about it. No idea what to expect from the new coach but I would expect a lot of growing pains
It sounds like we are after him. Ideal rim protector/lob guy. Not sure of need especially if Udeh/Zuby/Zach are around for a while.
K-St lands their 7th transfer in Tykei Greene, SG/Wing from Stony Brook. They still have a few more open spots.
K-St is likely to be among the worst Power 5 schools in Basketball this season. Their awesome fanbase can thank Bruce again
