I have a good feeling too @Crimsonorblue22

Who's guarding Doke? Who's guarding Dave? JRE is their biggest player. LOL.

Kenpom has Nova #86 defense. Their fans say their defense is no good. This isn't Wright's typical team that can defend.

They have length at the wings and their best player Saddiq Bey is the kind of guy that can give KU fits. Swider off the bench shoots the 3 well too. Gillespie will chuck a bunch but his %'s are down.

The road game obviously changes things. Nova gets a few points playing in a home environment. It's not their home gym though, they are playing in the Sixers gym. If Nova shoots lights out from 3 well we've seen what can happen. Not sure this group can do that though.

This is a young Nova team. I think they will keep it close early but as long as KU doesn't turn the ball over 20+ times and lose the rebounding margin I'm calling a W. KU is going to wear this team down in the post and their defense is much better then Nova's. This is a KU team that can just wear you out which we haven't had in a while. I have some confidence we go in there and just take care of business

Man UNC has hit tough times. 4 of their starters combined for 12 points. Yikes. I'm sure the UNC boards right now are salty

Kentucky losing is a glorious thing.

Baylor won at home by 28

Cincinnati pulled away from Tennessee. KU plays them in January

East Tennessee St went on the road and beat LSU pretty handily. ETSU should make the tourney

UNC Greensboro beat Vermont by 1 on the road. Vermont almost beat Virginia earlier in the year.

KU is now #4 in Kenpom Rankings.

10 offense

6 defense

If they keep playing like they are those numbers will continue to rise.

There are only 4 teams hovering with Top 10 in both metrics- KU, Ohio St, Duke, Louisville.

The Big-12 has 3 of the Top 10 defenses in the country (KU, Baylor, Tech).

8 of 10 ranked in the Top 50.

Only 5 of the 10 rank in the Top 50 on offense. KU & Baylor are the only teams in the Top 30.

Translation- there will be some ugly basketball games in the Big-12 this year.

Other Games • Dec 18, 2019 08:16 PM

@Woodrow

Good point about Washington. He's their best perimeter shooter (53%) and without them they have to lean a little bit more on the freshman- who's really good but I think it throws the balance of their nucleus off. That would even the game out a bit if he doesn't play. The Minnesota game seems like one of those days- like KU had against Duke. They shot 38% and Marcus Carr had 35, 20 above his average

Other Games • Dec 18, 2019 07:02 PM

@Kcmatt7

BYU with Childs back beat a good Utah St squad. That could be a team that makes the tourney down the line

Other Games • Dec 18, 2019 07:02 PM

Ohio St will paste Kentucky.

Marcus Garrett is shooting 38% from 3 so far this season!

Shot looked good pregame on Saturday. Wasn't surprised he canned a couple.

Whatever Garrett does, it just has to be good enough so that folks guard him at the line. That's it. He's in the "prove it" stage -- you know, after you hit the winning shot in game of HORSE and your opponent misses. You hit it again. IF he can sustain a mid-30s %, taking the open and available shots from three, he suddenly transforms into something different.

We're a national championship quality team.

Agreed, so far he's taking quality looks and most importantly looks confidence shooting for the first time. If he sustains 38% jeesh a lot of that lane clogging and playing two bigs concerns will be minimized.

I'm pumped to see how this team responds to the road atmosphere Saturday. Leaving there with a victory would definitely push those NC aspirations a bit higher. College B-Ball is down big time this season overall and could be a great year to capitalize

What bigs from wake are in the league?

Currrently,

John Collins as mentioned

Al Farouq-Aminu- Pre Danny

Jaylen Hoard- Danny 5 star recruit from last year.

James Johnson- Pre Danny

So Danny has sent 2 bigs to the league in his short time with Wake.

@BeddieKU23 I didn't think 3-point shooting would be a huge issue for us, especially after getting Moss. I'm more worried about our ability to defend them, actually. So far we're doing better than I thought we were - teams are only shooting 29.6% from us from 3 (ranks 64/353).

Maybe our biggest problem is turnovers? We average 14.0 per game (ranks 191/353). The worst is Chicago St at 20.2 turnovers per game. It's actually kind of amazing that we turned the ball over 28 times against Duke and only lost by 2. Think we'd beat them if we played again.

Agree about the turnovers. Turnovers and defending the 3 are the two big ones.

I don't think KU could turn the ball over 28 times in a game if you played that Duke game over 100 times. Those games just end up being complete outliers

@HighEliteMajor

A few things sticks out here. The attempts per game seem low because KU has two advantages over opponents most nights. No one can stop Dotson from getting to the rim and no one can stop Doke from camping 3 feet from the hoop and shooting 80+% from the field. You can obviously try and game plan (zone them both out) but over a course of a game it seems so far teams just can't handle how quick and aggressive Dotson is and just how big and dominant Azubuike is around the hoop. If our attempts stay around 20 and this team is that dominate over opponents over a 40 minute game do you change anything? I think we'll see Saturday on the road against a 5 out team if this style of play and the 1-2 punch KU has is just what the doctor ordered or needs some tweaking

It's still early but I was surprised to see KU on top given how much emphasis has been placed on the perimeter shooting with this team.

@BeddieKU23 night and day difference between sprint center and Allen. Allen is really night and day different from a non conference game like Milwaukee to a high profile conference game like Tech, KSU or something. My first game was 09 vs Texas on senior day for the big 12 title out right. Still is the best game experience for me at Allen because we came back late and won. My ears rang all the way home that night. If I remember right we kept getting it down to 2 or 3, then they’d stretch it back out to 8. We got it back to 2 with a couple minutes to go, Sherron got a steal and Brady hit a 3 to give us our first since early on and the place went completely bananas. Texas who was good back then had no idea what the hell hit them. I hope you had a good time, I can’t wait til my boy is ready to go to a game with me.

The Sprint Center game felt like an NBA game. Just seeing countless games in Allen on TV I could tell the difference. The opponent wasn't any good either which I don't think helped the activity level of the fans. Everyone knew this was a blowout in the making. I will definitely be going back next year for a game in Allen where I'll be able to compare how different the two are. Bummed I won't see this years squad in Allen because I do think this is a fun squad to watch

Roos Game Thread • Dec 17, 2019 05:54 PM

PER's after the blowout win Saturday.

Dave with a huge jump from his Career Game. He was simply terrific.

Doke & Devon holding steady at their high level of play.

Silvio's extended minutes gave him a boost.

Braun had good activity but struggled shooting the ball.

Tristan was not good. Been forcing the action for several games now

@HighEliteMajor

He went from Tulsa to the ACC. I'm sure he had aspirations of maybe a "bigger job" down the road. It would appear he's unlikely to climb the latter again with what he's done/hasn't been able to do at Wake. If he gets another job somewhere else it would be Lateral you would think. I can think of worse gigs then going back to your Alma Mater to be an assistant again. But if his goal is to be a coach maybe he accepts another situation (going down a level) to find somewhere he can win. Honestly don't see him coming back to KU unless he's done being a HC.

Loving being the top dog. We deserve it. Team has played at a good level for weeks now.

Now let's see if we can go on the road and defend that spot

Great time. Obviously need to go to Allen for the "full experience" but for my first game I was extremely happy with it. Kid sitting in front of me probably 18 or so didnt watch 3 minutes of the game, sat their Instagraming and texting. Had the nerve to wear a KU hat and shirt but you would never know he was actually a fan. I live so far from KU so I would never take for granted the opportunity to see them.

Dave was amazing. Game of his life.

Dotson is as fast as he appears on tv. Wow what a blur.

Ochai really didnt bring it today. He has all the tools. Didnt shoot well in pregame.

Moss has a great shot, no wonder he makes em.

Doke is just a large human. Loved seeing him up close before the game.

Marcus is such a savy defender. Always moving those feet.

Silvio is a while away but I hope he sticks around.

Rock Chalk!

@BeddieKU23 You absolutely must make it back to Larryville for a game!!! That being said you’ll have an absolute blast watching the Jayhawks! The Sprint Center has a nice court view from most seats. The one time I went we sat in the back row and it had a good time. (Back row isn’t all bad you come in from the top so we were right by the exit with no stairs.) Enjoy my Jayhawk friend!!!

I will make it back for another game you can count on it. I didn't want to see the Hawks anywhere else growing up but since this is a dual sports trip I'll have to settle for the Sprint Center this time. We got decent seats although I thought the price was ridiculous for the opponent compared to what I was expecting to pay to see them in Allen. Minor gripe there. Anything I should be on the lookout for around the Arena, etc food, bars?

@jayballer73

Yes its my first ever game live. I live in the northeast so the closest they have ever came has been about 3 hours away. I have dreamed of seeing them in Allen Fieldhouse since I was 9 years old. I was all set to see them a few years back but then me and wife had our first child so that scrapped that. Then I was set to see them in the Champions Classic last year but something came up again.

So Saturday we are making the trip to KC. One of our good friends is a Chiefs fan and he was already going so he asked us knowing I was a diehard Jayhawk Fan if we would like to go. We had hoped there would be a KU game in Allen but such as fate its in the Sprint Center so I'll have to make another return trip in the near future. Hopefully by that time my son will be old enough to really understand what's going on and it will be something memorable. Regardless I'm on cloud 9 to see them in person.

And as a bonus will be seeing that Pat Mahomes guy (not a Chiefs fan but I'm excited to see him). Have read a few times he's pretty decent.

This will be my first Kansas Game! Was hoping for Allen Fieldhouse but I'm also seeing the Chiefs play on Sunday so its just the way the schedule plays out. I'll be back to see a game in Allen next. So pumped

Welcome Bryce Thompson • Dec 11, 2019 08:10 PM

Bryce Thompson played against Caleb Love's (5 star UNC bound) team over the holiday week. I believe Caleb's team got the narrow victory but Thompson showed his tremendous shooting touch from the perimeter cashing in several 3's with Love guarding him as well are 3-4 others in the game. I saw not only Thompson's highlight video but the full video of both teams. Caleb Love is really good as well and its unfortunate he goes to Roy but he definitely looks like a fit there athletically and showed off a nice perimeter shot as well.

Yep, they are good. Maybe even better without Kegler. Playing the 3 guards has changed their identity. Butler, Teague & Mitchell matchup with just about anyone in the country. They don't play a ton of zone defense with this shift either.

Very good shooter. Gives this team invaluable spacing as well. If Agbaji and Moss are hitting 40% consistently we should theoretically keep defenses from trying to double the post option and should help keep those drives open for Dotson and Garrett. We'll see. I've been impressed with how well Moss has settled into his role

In addition to Kendall Brown, 2021 5 star Patrick Baldwin Jr was in attendance as well. Baldwin is the son of Milwaukee's coach. Top 5 player in the 21 class. His Crystal Ball is all Duke so far..

Also in attendance was Tamar Bates, 4 star Combo Guard out of Kansas City. 6'4 lefty has some game to him from some highlights I looked at. Can finish above the rim, looks like good length for a guard. Bates was also in attendance for Late Night. Bates has been active, been to K-St, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma St (unofficial) and Creighton for an official. Nationally #114 ranked player. 247 has him ranked a bit higher at #93. So far no KU offer but that could change.

Some impressive stats for the Hawks individually after 9 games.

Dotson 19.8 ppg, 5 assists, 3.9 boards, 2 steals. 85.9% FT, 49% FG, 32.5% from 3.

Doke 14.8 ppg, 8.4 boards, 1.9 blocks pg. An Astounding 82% from the field. Maybe just as important up to 1 assist pg, and his fouls per game are down. @approxinfinity, your spot on with Doke about his passing improving

Agbaji now up to 12.1 ppg, 5.2 boards, 2.6 assists and now more importantly 40% from 3.

Garrett, solid line- 9, 4, over 4 assists a game, 2 steals.

Moss- doing exactly what we need, a 45% 3 point shooter. Also important to note he'll be an invaluable late game FT shooter with Dotson (90%).
