Typical make everything

Fort Hays Game Thread β€’ Oct 25, 2019 12:09 AM

Wilson had a nice 3. Some other rushed shots but they will get better looks

Fort Hays Game Thread β€’ Oct 25, 2019 12:09 AM

Very slow start. Typical to start. Defense is same as always but it's nice to have that length in Doke and Silvio.

Dam Devonte G - - -nice start my man β€’ Oct 24, 2019 06:23 PM

@jayballer73

Pretty sure I saw Frank will be in the G-League most of the time. I think he can play up to 25 games with the Bucks with his contract.. Hopefully he gets some PT at some point

Dam Devonte G - - -nice start my man β€’ Oct 24, 2019 04:49 PM

Watching the highlights of Devonte last night seemed like a replica of his career here. Glad he's getting an opportunity to shine. Take advantage of it while he can.

Game Day Wish β€’ Oct 24, 2019 04:47 PM

@HighEliteMajor

Definitely times have changed. I was just surprised given the personnel of this team that he'd try and make this team split between two styles of play. It doesn't hurt to have the possibility to do both but how good will they really be at executing both? I think the best way forward is focusing on one and riding it. But Self makes the big bucks and knows what to do here so we'll see how it plays out. Long term I hope switching styles doesn't impact results when it matters

Game Day Wish β€’ Oct 24, 2019 03:08 PM

Interesting seeing the comments about he might play 4 guards 20 minutes a game. Yikes. For the exhibitions that seems impossible minus Dotson/Moss.

The 3 point line did move out which is going to impact the teams we play more then any defensive scheme Self could dream up to stop perimeter shooting. I disagree he needs to play small but I have nothing from this group to base that on. Maybe his best 5 will end up with Dotson/Agbaji/Moss/Garrett and a big but it seem like a crime to limit De Sousa and McCormack to limited minutes with how much Self could scheme to take advantage of their size... Going to be interesting to watch develop here.

I think its important to see what Garrett can show as a PG tonight and just how much Braun/Wilson/Enaruna might be able to contribute in that 5th guard/wing/small ball rotation...

O' Chubby Ankles β€’ Oct 24, 2019 09:37 AM

@tundrahok

That is a good point, there was the expectation coming into the season that he was a OAD. He was being mocked inside the lottery in the draft and he was expected to be an important player on the team. When things didn't go as planned he then used whatever leverage he could find to get eligible immediately. Some 800-900 kids didn't get that luxury when they wanted a different situation. Cases like this pave the way for others to piggy back off in the future. For the good and bad of the sport

2020 Recruiting β€’ Oct 24, 2019 09:32 AM

boom

Dotson Day to Day β€’ Oct 23, 2019 01:50 PM

@Woodrow

Certainly good practice for Garrett for the season. There will be times when Dotson is in foul trouble etc that we'll need to rely on another option. I would not risk Devon on Thursday in an exhibition

O' Chubby Ankles β€’ Oct 23, 2019 01:46 PM

@Kcmatt7

It's still a slippery slope though in terms of getting kicked off a team if that's what it was. If a player is effectively told your not coming back then likely there is cause for that decision. Given how big of a recruit he was coming in you don't end a relationship like that without good reason. Seems like that part was left out. We know there was behind the scenes issues with the Grimes Camp. KU helping in the process of his waiver is a nice gesture, keeping relationships mutual but I would love to know the whole scoop. This sets precedence for the future. I have generally been all for players having the ability to transfer and play immediately but this one seems off.

Dotson Day to Day β€’ Oct 23, 2019 10:11 AM

Yikes, good thing Duke isn't Thursday.

I'll expect a sloppy outcome if Dotson cannot go. They better bubble wrap this team

Kenpom β€’ Oct 23, 2019 12:58 AM

Downright laughable he got a waiver. However this is the trend the NCAA has set especially in football allowing the select few big names that want their way and somehow get it. You cant make this stuff up even if you tried. Good luck to Q and sounds like KU was helpful in making this happen regardless of whether it was the right or fair thing to do

KU Preseason #3. β€’ Oct 22, 2019 04:42 PM

In AP voting Azubuike was a pre-season 2nd team All American, Dotson 3rd team.

Kenpom β€’ Oct 22, 2019 04:38 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10

Sure it is, it still points out that his impact on the floor was impacted significantly by being a terrible shooter. I fail to see where the PER hasn't accurately accounted for his abilities to date. He has shown flashes in both seasons here but not a ton of consistency either. This is a big year to turn things around for him

2020 Recruiting β€’ Oct 22, 2019 04:35 PM

What a turn of events we might be witnessing with Bryce. Felt dead in the water for months here. Would say a lot to land a talent like him in the mess going on

KU Preseason #3. β€’ Oct 22, 2019 04:33 PM

@KirkIsMyHinrich

In the conference I think KU/Baylor will have separation. Unless Beard is just a magician they will regress to some mean. Everything he had last year is the reverse of what he has this season. Should be a really bunched middle of the Big-12 though.

KU Preseason #3. β€’ Oct 22, 2019 04:32 PM

Not really sure if the little smoke we are now getting with Bryce would have anything to do with that or not.

Interesting they already signed a Top 100 PG in Davonte Davis.

Border War Renewed β€’ Oct 22, 2019 01:41 PM

Should be a nice practice game

KU Preseason #3. β€’ Oct 21, 2019 06:16 PM

@justanotherfan

Look at the teams in the Top 10 and their returning rosters and I don't think you can find 8 better teams. College B-Ball is down in a big way and KU will field a Top 10 PG, Big Man and 5-6 other good complimentary pieces..

I understand the guarded approach here. KU was #1 to start the season last year and look how that worked out. Lots of things contributed to that. If KU has a healthy team for once I think they have a great chance to live up to expectation.

Kenpom β€’ Oct 21, 2019 02:19 PM

@BShark

Dug into Sports-reference for a minute. They have PER back until 2010.

Sure Enough the two lowest players in the Self Era to play 300+ minutes is Quentin & Charlie. Quentin's PER is 3+ points lower (8.7) then the next closet player Marcus Garrett 11.7 (17-19), Elijah Johnson 11.8 (12-13), Selden 11.9 (14-15), Selby 11.9 (14-15). Charlie's PER was 5.7, he should have never played.

Hopefully Garrett improves from his 11.7 & 12.8 over his first two years. If he's in the 14-15 range we have 7 guys that will make this team look good most nights. Moss was 14.0 last season, 15.7 as a Soph. Agbaji was 13, flashes and injury and he will be better. Udoka was a crazy 31.5 in limited games but was 28.9 in his only full season so we know what he's capable of. Silvio was 22 in his half season, solid. McCormack & Dotson were solid as freshman 19.5 & 17.

Kenpom β€’ Oct 21, 2019 01:49 PM

@BShark

I wonder if the analytics say as much as well. The eye test certainly said he was among the worst playing starter minutes. Charlie was the worst rotation player I've ever seen. Those two being gone help a lot

2020 Recruiting β€’ Oct 21, 2019 09:43 AM

better news then we thought would come out after the OU official. would be a colossal pull given the circumstances

2021 Recruiting β€’ Oct 18, 2019 04:31 PM

Kentucky signed another 5 star player, he may reclassify into 20 but for now is still a 21 recruit.

Almost as if there's a factory Calipari can visit and pick one off the line.

Big 12 Preseason Coaches Poll β€’ Oct 18, 2019 03:44 PM

@BShark

Agree. Gordon will be good in time and I think he flashes some this season. 12 a game only happens if they are so bad that he's immediately a top 3 option for them which is not out of the realm there. They have a very weak post situation going on. Mawien can be decent but I can't imagine KU is scared with what we have in the front court.

Gethro Muscadin commits to KU β€’ Oct 18, 2019 01:59 PM

@BShark

Seems closer to Diallo then Embiid. Agree unfair comparison. If he continues to improve his Sr year and comes into KU and can add a good 20 pounds at minimum and define his skill set I see no reason by Soph/Jr year he isn't someone we're talking about differently. I think there's a way to go with him but he can shoot it appears and really has some bounce to him. If he takes to the system I see him being valuable at some point

Big 12 Preseason Coaches Poll β€’ Oct 18, 2019 01:57 PM

@BShark

I don't know about Brucey's bunch. Sure Jawa, Sneed & Mawien gives him a solid core trio, McGirl has had his moments. The roster outside of the freshman Gordon is garbage. I don't think he has a tournament bunch this season unless the rest of the roster somehow is better then it appears

Big 12 Preseason Coaches Poll β€’ Oct 18, 2019 01:06 PM

@BShark

Iowa St at #7 is not accurate I believe.

Haliburton is an NBA PG. Getting the Penn St transfer eligible really helped their backcourt depth. Nixon is a Sr guard who scored at Colorado St and sat out last season. Jacobsen will be one of the 5 best bigs in the league all season. Conditt gives them added depth on the inside. Probably the biggest question is who reliably plays the wing and 4 position for them but there is no way West Virginia or Oklahoma St are better then them on paper talent coming into the season.

Agree I think after Baylor there are question marks for everyone. Texas has stockpiled talent but has an average coach at best. Tech is breaking in 9 new guys. West Virginia was terrible and the talent level is not what it once was even with a 5 star big men in the fold. K-St is down big time, same with TCU. OU could surprise but will rely heavily on a freshman PG to run the show. Okla Lite returns 5 guys, a transfer and 5 freshman. Very difficult to predict what the league will become

Big 12 Preseason Coaches Poll β€’ Oct 18, 2019 12:22 PM

Texas Tech at #3 is very high. I understand that Beard is a good coach and they had a great year last year but return 2 players that played for that team. Already lost a scrimmage to UTEP by 10 so far. Beard has his work cut out for him

Will be exhibit A of the new Strength and Conditioning coaches chops. Gethro needs a good 20+ pounds added to him. Great bounce and length. Functional shooting to the perimeter. Good depth to have behind Big Dave

I think it’s a Hail Mary. Pretty sure he’ll end up at OU.

Might be the last time they get to see him before he ends it. Given the longstanding relationship I can see this being a nice get together that ends with thanks for recruiting me

Intriguing talent that the staff can work with and see what happens.

Louisville, Memphis, K-St, Texas Tech, Minnesota were some of the teams involved with him.

Ranked #123 on 247.

Tyon Grant Foster commits to KU β€’ Oct 17, 2019 02:03 PM

@Marco

In the vacuum of our current mess I think it is what it is. I think most of us will be pleasantly surprised if he turns out to be an important signing. JUCO's at blue blood programs are uncommon and we really have no idea where his actual skill level lies. We can see he has the athleticism to stick and he has great size for the guard/wing position. I'm hopeful he has a big year at Indian Hills and justifies the signing.

In the bigger picture nationally where KU is in the tier with UK/DUKE/UNC etc they are a sinking ship in 2020 recruiting cycle as those schools continue to stockpile talent and separate themselves as the "have's". If Agbaji and De Sousa have big years and leave after the season there will be actual concern what lies next. Is the fanbase really ready for sanctions or a down season? I don't believe so in this day and age
