Data sez: Bill Self is frickin awesome • Dec 11, 2018 04:42 PM

@justanotherfan

I believe they made another graph showing level of competition but I have not seen it. Some people asked if this could be broken down by "top 100" competition for example.

Overall though Bill is a Maestro in close games.

Johnathan Givony Top 100 for Draft • Dec 11, 2018 02:23 PM

Ouch, #30 that's one heck of a steep drop. Should be plenty motivation for him I would think.

Quentin "Big Game" Grimes • Dec 11, 2018 01:03 PM

Grimes is definitely in the same boat Selden and Oubre were recently. I am a bit surprised that its taken him time especially after his debut game against Michigan St. That's probably what makes it frustrating to watch is how tantalizing that first game was and seeing where his game is a month later. Q just has to believe in the process and things will turn around. Saturday would be a great place to start

Poor Silvio • Dec 11, 2018 11:18 AM

@kjayhawks

My theory is along the same lines. The NCAA doesn't want to start digging in until the season ends because digging in right now is BAD for business.

Also, I think KU is appealing the NCAA's decision to hold off on any decisions including Silvio's eligibility. The lack of movement at this point seems to make sense that KU is appealing.

Will KU Be Number 1? • Dec 11, 2018 11:11 AM

@jayballer73

It's good optics for our game this weekend being #1 but in the same light I don't want Villanova coming into our own house and getting a W so its imperative we hold serve at home. I do agree though we haven't played up to the ranking just yet and who knows if we ever will with this group.

Maybe ESPN will write one story this week about KU to match the 50 Duke stories they have in the que already. IF we get just one that looks good right? kidding of course

@focojayhawk

Miami is holding out one of their starters and arguably their best player, Duwen Huell, now Hernandez. Miami is struggling big time without him. He is being held out for his name being linked to Christian Dawkins in an email that included 18 others. The email stated Dawkins was going to pay Hernandez 500 a month in 2017, then going up to 1,000 in 2018.

Quentin "Big Game" Grimes • Dec 10, 2018 07:49 PM

@Kcmatt7

At this point yeah he is really damaging his stock.

I do however believe he's going to turn it around. He had some pro moments against Wofford and early looked in rhythm against NM St. A few unfortunate aggressive plays to the hoop saddled him on the bench and he never recovered from it. Tools are all there but he's the one guy that still looks out of sync with teammates.

@FarmerJayhawk

I'm a FSU fan and I care about the optics but its not going to matter what I think of the matter. I have been reading of some people not on board with Briles because of the "baggage" from Baylor but your pretty much spot on that all that anyone is worried about is can this guy put points on the board and recruit.

@mayjay Thanks, mayjay for the NET info. Texas Tech ranked ahead of us? We've played a great schedule. How the heck does TT get ranked ahead of us?

Margin of victory mostly (+10 vs the 3 teams they played with a pulse- Nebraska, USC, Memphis plus the 5 cream puffs). I believe their offense/defense efficiency numbers are high as well.

KU's margin of victory isn't helping them so far.

GROSS

As a strickly football hire its a homerun for FSU. He's a complete upgrade from Bell in terms of running the offense Taggart wants.

Of course there will be some PR to deal with here but he's twice removed from the Baylor situation. When your team becomes a piling steam of crap this is what you get sucked into, desperation over optics

I think its more then that but I'm happy that when the game gets tight we've had enough grit to prevail. Dedric did exactly what we hoped he'd do in a KU uniform in the last 7-8 minutes of the NM St game.

This weekend is a great opportunity to play up to competition

When 50% FT shooting wins the game • Dec 10, 2018 12:46 PM

In end of game situations I'm concerned who KU can rely on to make them. So far the only consistent FT shooters we have are Dotson & Dedric. KJ has good form as well but he doesn't play much. Marcus routinely misses the first and neither Grimes/Vick get to the line enough to rely on. Team definitely doesn't have the shooters.

Top 5 game I've seen so far this season.

If the basketball gods care at all, Villanova will go 0-25 from 3 point land Saturday. THEY ARE FREAKING DUE

Will KU Be Number 1? • Dec 10, 2018 12:39 PM

Maybe the polls reward us for not losing but if the people who vote watched both the Wofford & NM St games we'd be hard pressed to think we get the votes when they can flip ESPN on and watch Duke beat Yale by 30.

We are undefeated and parts lucky, parts a team that knows how to win and close. Complete enigma right now

@Kcmatt7 Bank records of course only document what is deposited and withdrawn, not cash that is not deposited as we know. Hard to believe this dude put it in the bank. If I'm the investigator, bank records don't mean much in this situation when looking for wrongdoing -- meaning the absence of the transaction is of little value. Of course, bank records can hurt, too, if money was deposited. There it would be value, but not what you're assuming. I guess my point is if there was no transaction(s), and investigator, that wouldn't mean anything to me.

@BeddieKU23 We know this dude is a snake. My question is whether Silvio would just be flat ineligible. If not, give us a suspension. What other info is need. Heck, if I were KU, I'd ask the NCAA to assume he got the UA money and the $2500, and then tell me the suspension and conditions (payback or whatever) and be done with it. If he's just determined ineligible in with those facts, then I'd want to know that too.

Maybe they have .. that makes more sense to me. Coming up with the $22,500 could be the issue. I don't know. I'd chip in a grand to help pay it back -- but then I'd get a fraud charge, right? But only if the prosecutor deems it important enough to charge.

I tend to agree he's a snake. I would like to give him the benefit of the doubt but I just have a hard time believing he couldn't have settled this situation for Silvio already, or at least given information that would have helped the situation one way or the other. Which leads my mind down the rabbit hole in regards to the other player this Guardian is involved with, Bruno Fernando, a Soph at Maryland which ties that whole payment fiasco together in some way. The alleged 60k and 20k payback all tie this together. What if providing info for Silvio ends up costing Bruno his eligibility as well because of this guardian. So I wonder how much a role that plays here. Why give up both eggs in the pot if you can keep one payday alive. I honestly have no idea if I'm on the right path or not but that's what crosses my mind in regards to this whole thing.

I think KU is in the appeal stage already and usually we don't hear about anything regarding that until resolution is near or something pops up in the media that puts it out in the open. Maybe the NCAA is still looking for info/waiting for info/searching for info etc but enough time has passed that I think we are beyond that. Silvio has already sat 7 games and 2 exhibitions so at this point no matter the actual dollar amount he's responsible or going to be held accountable for he's getting close to losing half a season. At some point and maybe that's already passed, Silvio will have de-facto missed more time then he should have without an official ruling. It would be nice to have closure here, for once.

Kelvin Benjamin Visiting • Dec 07, 2018 05:36 PM

@justanotherfan

I'm almost positive after Benjamin refused to do a pre-game workout with his rookie QB one week was the final straw for him in Buffalo. I believe he was brought to Buffalo by someone who used to work in Carolina and was apart of the process that got Kelvin drafted in Carolina. I also believe that person was already fired in Buffalo which really left Kelvin on an island with the organization. He wasn't motivated to be in Buffalo from the start however and some lingering knee issues have also kept him from being the player that he once was.

Motivation for Kelvin has always been an issue though. Jimbo Fisher had issues with him at FSU early in his career and it wasn't until that breakout season with Winston did he realize his potential. Then he did the right thing going pro and capitalized on his momentum. Carolina was a good spot especially early then his ACL injury really messed with him. He lost his mom around that time and I think with Kelvin its been easy to fall off the wagon a bit. There was that one off-season he was criticized heavily for being out of shape. I hope KC can help him, he needs it or he might find himself out of the league

Les Miles Coaching Staff • Dec 07, 2018 02:13 PM

@mayjay

I find myself disinterested in fb recruiting a lot of times because there seems to be zero loyalty in this whole process. It's a business, of course, and both sides recognize that fact. The resources that College Football coaches get for recruiting must be borderline insane. Having followed the fb recruiting scene for years as my favorite team (not KU) is always knee deep in crootin' you see all highs and lows of a program daily, monthly, yearly. There are people who have jobs just reporting recruiting news, its big business.

Kelvin Benjamin Visiting • Dec 07, 2018 02:05 PM

@mayjay

Mahomes is definitely the type of QB that can make his playmakers better. Kelvin enters into a system that he should be able to thrive in but he's done a ton of damage to his reputation over the past few years and really hasn't shown the type of play that will get him any significant snaps for the Chiefs. I hope this is the change he needed. It's been brutal watching him spiral, especially as a fan of his. I have his Panthers Jersey hanging in the Man Cave

Kelvin Benjamin Visiting • Dec 07, 2018 10:40 AM

Big fan of Benjamin from his College to early pro days. Getting this kid to stay motivated has always been an issue. He had one great year in College with Winston and went pro after. Besides two good years with Newton shadowed around an knee injury he hasn't been the same since and absolutely resented being traded to Buffalo. If KC has some magic on motivation he's a good weapon to have for Mahomes. Being in the playoffs should keep him occupied

Poor Silvio • Dec 07, 2018 10:37 AM

@Kcmatt7

I agree that his guardian could clear some things up for Silvio. The more time that passes makes you think he hasn't. And the only one suffering from this is the kid he's supposed to be helping.

Yeah and FSU went elsewhere after being out-bidded for him so if Shaka did get canned it would be interesting to see how that plays out as the incentives in play for him to still go to Texas would be hard to pass on, especially for others in his camp
