Chris Silva of South Carolina, no Agent

Danny Manning loses his starting C, Doral Moore who will stay in the draft. Another huge loss for him.

Zhaire Smith stays in the draft. Smart decision. Likely a Top 20 pick

Huge loss for the Big-12 and Texas Tech.

Agbaji composite #173 after his rivals update. I don't believe 247 has re-evaluated him yet. I'd imagine he goes up 40-50 more spots

I was surprised. Eastern will be one of their best players this year. Figuring he's banking on getting some feedback and building for next year.

@BeddieKU23 every recruiting. There's at least one commitment that goes the exact opposite of what the experts predict I think Romeo coming to Lawrence it's going to be that commitment

I like your optimism. I was firmly in the Romeo to KU camp since the fall however it does feel like the pressure being put on him to stay home is going to win out. This kid would have went to Louisville if things hadn't blown up there which is right over the boarder for the Langford's. Just seems like his family and those lurking around want him close by. Just an educated guess at this point. The one thing that gives me optimism still is the fact that KU is crickets on the market for players right now. Usually when the staff isn't confident they start hedging to build relationships and see what's out there

Langford • Apr 16, 2018 10:49 PM

@JayHawkFanToo

It's probably where he belongs. If he is anything like the coaches think he will outplay his rank in time

Hey he was on show talking about this. The father has made this a talking point for no reason. Don't know why these fathers keep getting a platform.

Really wish the father wouldn't comment on things such as this but what else is new in today's world. Everyone has a platform

Rivals has Agbaji ranked #141 in their update. First of many I'm assuming

His dad was apparently on some show saying his boys could return to Memphis depending on the KU/FBI thing.. Not sure what this all means but the father is stirring the pot none the less

Bruce On The Warpath • Apr 16, 2018 05:39 PM

@Kcmatt7

Your right they are not easy to replace. It's a bunch of unknown's. Knowing Dixon though I would think 1-2 of these guys turns out to be good for them this year. Noi came out of no where last year and it seems he has a few more unknowns to play with again. He got lucky red-shirting the Samuel/Mayen duo so I'd imagine 1 of them can play immediately. I wouldn't be surprised to see Alok start with JD Miller. Alok seems like a Acuil Jr clone according to reports

@BeddieKU23 I didn't think he wasn't going to play pro overseas. I would have taken, no doubt.

I also thought he wasn't returning to the states. Out of HS he turned down a big deal to come to NC St. I guess there wasn't any big offers for him this time

Bruce On The Warpath • Apr 16, 2018 04:41 PM

Also I wouldn't be surprised to see Francis of Texas Tech take a big step up. He made some big shots this year. Culver will get better in year 2 as well. They signed an underrated guard and Khavon Moore has versatility that will get him plenty of PT as a freshman. I think Beard is going to continue to put out a good product. He's very active again for transfers as well.

Kcmatt7 said:

Real questions to me are TCU and Tech.

How does TCU do without their best defender, best rebounder and stretch 5? Guard play won't be an issue. But post play doesn't look good.

How does Beard do in his 2nd year at Tech after losing his two best players and 5 senior rotation players? Some talent still in the program, but not the same as he had last year for sure.

TCU added a ton of post players.

They red-shirted Kevin Samuel (former Top 100ish type) and Lat Mayen another Aussie import. JD Miller is back for his Sr year. They signed two more down-under players McWilliam & Alok (Alok can play inside and shoot the 3). Barlow & Archie (Top 100 kid) have size and are also options. The perimeter is loaded. Dixon will figure it out I think. Too much talent for him not to.

Texas Tech. Getting Tariq Owens was big. He can block shots and is a good athlete around the rim. Zhaire Smith returning would be huge for them. No idea where he's leaning. They definitely need post help. I believe Odiase returns for another year, he's always given KU fits in the past.

I thought Vandy was over the schoolie limit but I have noit checked recently.

If Langford comes to KU then the team is pretty much complete for next season. If he goes elsewhere, the wait might end up hurting KU some since it might have to pass on other prospects while waiting for him. Even without Langford, the team will be very good and we all know that Coach Self is known for pulling last minute surprises; perhaps someone that will reclassify that we don't know.

Vandy cut some weight to make room. They are 2 under waiting the Romeo thing out. Active for transfers including Matthew Moyer who they may get anyway but he'll have to sit. It looks like they want at least 1 player for this upcoming year.

Honestly I don't think there has been anyone available that we've really missed out on. I think there will be more transfers coming up when kids finish their academic years so I'd imagine a few others (maybe even better options arise). I've been less then impressed with what's out there so far and you see a ton of programs reaching for some kids that played at smaller schools. Your not seeing the Malik Newman/Lawson types (while rare anyway), those are the caliber of players KU is after I would think.

Baylor actually nabbed one of the better players available but not at a position of need (PG), Davion Mitchell from Auburn (2017 #59 recruit).

Langford • Apr 16, 2018 04:19 PM

@BShark

Your right he's one. I'm expecting him to start at the 2 Guard position. Who's the wing player? I know Marcus is the "guy" but we need much more from him shooting wise.

Yurtseven signs with Georgetown

Bruce On The Warpath • Apr 16, 2018 04:00 PM

@Kcmatt7

Don't forget Mitrou-Long who's likely to start at SG. Either that or playing big minutes off the bench. Ferbes wasn't terrible and is a better shooter then he showed. Sims & Coleman's development is really the key to their season as it looks

Langford • Apr 16, 2018 03:56 PM

@JayHawkFanToo

You pretty much nailed it. A 3 point shooter with athleticism would be ideal. I think we need to find someone that can play immediately that can give us some of the things we were used to getting from Vick, Jackson & Selden before that. There's an element of athleticism missing IMO that KU likes to have for lobs and drives to the hoop.

Langford is both. Herro is 1/2.

Agbaji and Sam are both in that mold but unproven. Staff seems to like Agbaji but no clue if he'll be ahead of the curve to play minutes as a freshman. Garrett & KJ haven't proven to be consistent shooters yet but they give you a lot of other good things.

It's unlikely we are going to find a really capable option if its not Romeo. I guess it could pop up so I won't say it can't. Will be interesting

Bruce On The Warpath • Apr 16, 2018 03:48 PM

@JayHawkFanToo

I'm not surprised Texas isn't on these early projections. Roster still in flux without knowing if Andrew Jones will be able to return, if Roach will come back for his senior year and with them very active for transfers there's no telling what their roster looks like before summer. Really young team.

Romeo . a different look/ A different take • Apr 16, 2018 02:56 PM

@Kcmatt7

I'm not expecting McCormack to suddenly start jacking perimeter shots. I do think he has nice touch which I don't believe Lucas had. Doke isn't that type of player. Big Dave has a legitimate chance to start here for 3 years which could give him a chance to expand his game a little.

I agree he's already worked his tail off before even getting here. Says a lot about his mind already. And he's interested in his academics as well. Throwback type player. Can see him being a coach/fan favorite

Langford • Apr 16, 2018 02:48 PM

@Kcmatt7

I believe all the coaches have one last in-home visit to use. Whether Romeo will take in last impressions remains to be seen with two weeks left but I'd imagine KU and Vandy will be pushing for those visits to kind of get an answer one way or the other.

The confidence IU has looks comparable to the confidence KU had with Grimes and to some extent Dotson as well. I don't know whether any of that is comparable, just voicing the vibe I'm getting from all this.

We'll know soon whether Romeo wants to compete for a championship at KU, or mediocrity in the Big-10 or SEC

Romeo . a different look/ A different take • Apr 16, 2018 02:41 PM

@Kcmatt7

I agree, it will be interesting to see his progress by fall. We should be very excited to see where he is in year 2 and 3 though. That's probably where the most gains will come with him. Seen a few clips of him making the mid-range shot. I think he's going to be more versatile in time then Lucas/Doke

Langford • Apr 16, 2018 02:34 PM

IU peeps still confident they are getting Romeo. Just passing along what they are saying. Apparently the coaches are confident as well

@BeddieKU23 Exactly. The rest of Indiana is putting pressure on him. But his town not so much.

On another note, his measurements came in from the Summit. A real 6'5 with a 6'11 wingspan and 202 lbs. That 202lbs could be turned into 212 lbs by Hudy this summer no doubt.

Yeah he's already built for the NBA game with that body.

Big Dave measured 6'10 263. Whoa Nelly

Wonder if the Langford's haven't told the coaches yet. I don't see Indiana or Vanderbilt active either with 2 spots open.

Vandy has been active. They are after Matthew Moyer- a transfer from Syracuse. I have seen them interested in a few others as well.

Indiana has kicked the tires on some grad transfers. They want Matt Mooney from South Dakota who made it official he was leaving them.

@BeddieKU23 Yeah I wouldn't go anywhere near Jones. What's the deal with Maurice? I assumed Bruce gave him the axe because he couldn't play.

Not surprising the AZ commit got ranked. The same thing would happen if he picked UK, Duke, KU etc...

Maurice is a headcase. I don't see him lasting at Memphis either.

Me either. I don't know what to think of that. Seems they really want to wait out this Romeo deal before figuring it out. And to be honest nothing that's been available has really been a fit or the type of player that can move the needle for this team.
