Isn’t Daum a volume shooter? How would that fit? πŸ€”

He's a stretch big that averaged 25 and 23 the last two seasons on 15, 16 shots a game. Over 40% from 3 on 200 attempts, great FT shooter, good rebounder. Makes tough shots and can light it up. There would be no better transfer on the market

FWIW, Sam Vecenie told me to expect Doke to declare without an agent and go through the process.

I'm just wondering what process that's going to be for him. Do you see him a combine invite.. What interest, if any, is an NBA team going to show him. I'm all for him declaring and getting feedback. I just assume the feedback should be a swift process for him. And for the record I've always thought he was leaving regardless

2019 Recruiting β€’ Apr 06, 2018 05:59 PM

One day I must apologize to Hurt for not wanting him in this class. I think I did say that once. But man his junior film looks really good and with the game the way it is there is no player other then Achiuwa tailor made more for this team

Matt Tait doing his weekly β€’ Apr 06, 2018 05:57 PM

@justanotherfan

I see both sides of the coin. There were a lot of games we wouldn't have won without Doke this season. We don't make the F4 without his perseverance to get back on the court and help this team. We also lost one game directly because of him and our season ended with him being ineffective against a stretch 5. He really is unique and an antique in today's changing game.

I don't know where Self is going with his team next year. The 4 guard lineup or having a hybrid 4 that has shooting skills seems like the future we need to keep up with. That makes Doke returning maybe not the best fit for this team. We have options that may fit keeping up with this new offensive identity. Dedric is capable of being the lone true big on the floor that can stretch the defense (unlike Doke) who's advantage was posting and ISO's.

I guess we won't know for sure what's happening until he makes his decision.. It would be interesting to see what Self did with Doke if he does return.

@BeddieKU23 Are we the overwhelming favorite for Langford at this point with the deepest frontcourt Self has ever had save maybe 2010-2011 with Withey Morrii Robinson?

I hope so, the need for Langford now cannot possibly be overstated enough

Langford β€’ Apr 06, 2018 04:47 PM

@justanotherfan

His progression reminds me of Vick's. Garrett saw a big jump in his Sr year as well so that's another good comp. I'd rather see him compete and not shirt if he has a clear path to contributing.

Matt Tait doing his weekly β€’ Apr 06, 2018 04:45 PM

@justanotherfan

That's a complicated but true post in regards to Doke. Does Doke really look capable of being a guy that's going to play away from the basket?

Round hole, square peg kind of thing isn't it?

Self would play him I assume, he seems to really like him and trusts him.

He was a bad matchup for the one team that had a big capable of exploiting it. Odds are we don't play a team next year besides Nova (if Spellman returns) that can make Doke ineffective like that. We don't know whether another off-season working on his game, being 100% healthy and motivated to change the narrative about him would change that. It could but maybe it doesn't. He's so young we don't know exactly how to project what he can do. We do know he came a long way in 1 year and even that was done without a full year without interruption. Tough call here

Some 19 updates reading other boards, well the Duke Board. Usually we are locked in battles with them but we don't seem to be crossing paths so far with too many outside of Hurt/Carey.

Joe Girard apparently is all Duke. Girard? He broke the New York state scoring record and he's only a Junior. I've seen him play, they played a team that lives about 15 minutes from me. Non-athletic white kid ranked in the 100's. He can really shoot it from anywhere often doing his best Trae Young impersonation from 35 feet. Has a lot of big-time offers, Michigan, Cuse, Notre Dame, etc. Helicopter dad and a cocky kid from all those that talk about him.

Bryan Antoine- #7 ranked player apparently is just biding his time. Sounds like he gave the staff a silent commitment at this point.

Isaiah Stewart- #25, bruiser inside. Sounds like he's Duke's as well.

Cremo getting a lot of attention. He can shoot it and he's a quality player. Going from America East ball to the ACC would be a stretch though. I think he's a better fit somewhere in the middle level wise.

@BeddieKU23 Well I feel like we are about to start recruiting at a level we have never seen Bill recruit after the FBI probe. Clearly had players bought away from us these last few years. Add in USA basketball, and it is realistic to think the 2019 class will be an absolute monster one.

What a coup would it be to land JRE, Hurt and Carey?

One of those is already in, just hasn't formally announced.

I'm very interested to see who's on that USA squad he's coaching. It should be a nice advantage for once

Let the dumb begin! β€’ Apr 05, 2018 05:00 PM

Really hoping your feeling is right. I cannot stand Konate after his antics in the Big-12 championship game. Huggins sometimes surprises me with how little he reigns in his players character

@BeddieKU23 Well I hope we are showing them film of Perry and how we used him on the perimeter and inside. Because Duke and Kentucky both have proof they will let their 4 man shoot it. Perry was the first 4 that Bill ever let take 3s.

If we do miss, at least we are in on a lot of bigs for 2019.

Will be interesting to see how this plays out. This has a Dotson/Grimes feel to it where the staff is putting a lot of early work in before AAU stuff pops up. I always felt the relationship KU built with those two early helped when things got tight late. Also it helps that Hurt seems to have reciprocated interest in KU and if all goes according to plan there's a likely-hood that the staff can sell him a starting spot in an offense he would flourish in.

2019 Recruiting β€’ Apr 05, 2018 04:14 PM

Also want to add I love the constant contact KU is keeping with Hurt. Not a prospect we want going somewhere else

What's right his 6'6 250 or 6'7 215? Did he eat a small toddler one day?

Looks like the perfect storm at Wichita State is coming to an end and a cycle of mediocrity looms in the horizon.

I don't see anyway around it honestly unless he fills those 3 spots available with some grad transfer studs or gets lucky on some spring commit.

McDuffie, Jones & Reaves are at least 3 starters. They need help that's for sure. Something feels odd here, almost like he's looking for a way out

Joe Dooley Moving Up β€’ Apr 04, 2018 06:58 PM

The good news (if there is any) is that 3 of the 4 top scorers for ECU return. They are all guards which should help him. ECU played all 4 freshman and got contributions from them all so there's some hope a coach like Dooley can move them up. The 3 recruits are not great, a couple of top 75 (for their position) perimeter players.

Dooley did a pretty good job recruiting talent to FGCU so I figure he'll assess his roster, maybe send some on their way and hit the transfer market hard..
