Do we think Billy's Mom is still dating the Adidas guy or did she finally ghost him?:beaming_face_with_smiling_eyes:
Didn't realize mentioning Kendric would cause this much of a fuss, my bad y'all.
He was someone KU targeted in the portal and he went to Memphis instead (hence why I mentioned). Watched him play for the first time all year when he blitzed Houston and he played like Remy 2.0. Would have been dynamic here or anywhere. Oh well.
Believe he was already designated to transfer out earlier in the year but it couldn't be official until this week. Only played in 8 games and none since December. Averaged 14 and 8 as a sophomore.
Not ideal for sure. What's Eddie Lampkin's excuse? TCU has a game this week and he's in the portal blaming his coach.
Yeah it would appear statistically this team has a short ceiling.
My hope is the stats won't matter when Jalen laces them up and this team's heart and competitiveness shines. I know we'll defend, I think it's our offense that has stunk & will need to prove itself.
Update:
Points-
Jalen passed Wilt Chamberlain for 27th all time on the scoring list. He needs 43 points to pass Brandon Rush for 26th.

In the Self era this ranks as the #15th best team via Kenpom.
There are 6 teams this current team compares with. When Self's offenses are in the 20's, his defense has always been good. 5 of 6 were Top 11 Kenpom on defense.
Here are the finishes for those 6 teams- 2 (lost in 2nd round), 2 (lost in Sweet 16), 1 (Elite 8), 1 (Championship game, 2011-12).
High scoring guards Khalif Battle of Temple & Jameer Nelson Jr of Deleware (yes that's Jameer's son) in the portal.
Portal at 400+
CJ Noland leaving OU after 2 seasons.
John Hugley leaving Pitt.
I don't think we want to find out.
Well haven't been able to keep up much the last day. Gotten over 2 feet of snow and counting. Power in and out, no cable/internet. It's a mess!
We certainly didn't miss on him
340+ names in the portal after day 1 of it officially opening
Tyler Nickel in the portal from UNC.
@dylans yeah expect more attrition coming
Lampkin officially in
Robert Jennings is the 3rd Tech player to hit portal
JJ Starling in the portal from Notre Dame. Yes and yes
How many losses do we have in all the other leagues? Obviously, we can't answer that with a fact, but we know how tough our league was compared to every other one out there.
I agree 7 losses is a lot for a 1 seed. Committee got it right though. UCLA had 5 in a super weak league & Texas was up next after that with 8 losses.
Sold on Brakefield. 19 PER, 65% on 2's, 35% from 3, 73% from the line, rebound and assist numbers up. He's poised for a breakout year next season.
@cragarhawk said in Complain About KU's Unfair Bracket Thread:
@BeddieKU23 definitely agree. Even though I do think Norm did a pretty good job. It's just different. Who knows. Maybe they will have a renewed vigor just from having Self there and knowing what he went thru and etc. I just want to see them play like we all know they can. Great things will happen
Norm did a great job and got us to the Championship game. How many assistant coaches can do that against the caliber of teams we faced? I would think the list is very short. Very happy we have such a fantastic right-hand man that's done nothing but accept the challenges given to him and succeeded.
I had a thought that the adrenaline of playing for your coach in the circumstances they did on Thursday/Friday worked but then wore off. It was definitely a distraction for the team no matter what they said to the media.
I trust the staff to get these guys in the right mindset for Thursday. No excuses needed. They have to man up
There was a point in Brakefield's recruitment where KU might have been the leader. Then he was all Duke and never looked back. We certainly have familiarity with him. Assuming the coaching change will give him a clear waiver on his next stop.
I can imagine having Self back will be a relief. Hopefully the troops can reset and respond positively
Definitely don't see Rice playing outside of necessity, that's where he was with Self before the Big-12 tourney.
Same, although I'll be satisfied being in the Elite 8 game. Self with a week to prepare for any team, that won't be on him if they lost at that point.
@benshawks08 said in McCullar:
@BeddieKU23 yeah, Bobby and joe are never going to be Kevin no matter how good they play. They just don’t have the same size and skill set. I wonder if anyone on the bench mentioned to Gradey that it was actually HIM that needed to be filling in for Kevin’s role defensively. He’s the one with the length and athleticism to rebound and take up space defensively. He just didn’t have a good game either. Joe actually did some decent rebounding for his size but there’s only so much a guy his size can do in that area.
Gradey has been feast or famine lately. Agree Joe was active on boards, effort isn't an issue with him. He's just wildly inconsistent.

@BeddieKU23 Shot .364 on 107 attempts too... Would say he will probably be able to score the ball in the next couple of years.
Probably could do better. Probably could do worse.
Interesting that Abram's pretty much played similar to his High School eval as as a freshman which I like to see. Has great size at the guard position and did pretty well playing for an SEC overcast. I'm intrigued, however I'm not sure we'll look at him given our other needs
Don't think he would have lasted at KU either imo. Underwood is something else. Not my cup of tea. Some of these kids go into situations they can't handle the coaching.
Texas is a bad matchup for KU. They have size, athleticism and depth & play well as a team.
It was even worse with McCullar out since that's 20% of our defensive rebounding not out there, among many other things.
I don't know why Texas has made KU play two of its worst games in one week, but they found the way. Kudos to them.
I thought we lost the game defensively and it was evident early the mistakes and miscommunication going on. So many wide-open layups, Texas found what was working and kept going to it on those mid paint drives, they would stop, analyze, get the defense shifting then have a guard cut to the hoop and it was consistently there. I think Self would have made an adjustment here, perhaps Norm did and it didn't work. Defense is what failed us and led to a lot of bad offense. They didn't rebound situationally at all either. Texas had a few possessions where they got 3-4 offensive rebounds. That's where Kevin becomes so valuable besides his defensive versatility and ability to get steals is just how bigtime of a rebounder he is.
Our options after Kevin are Joe & Bobby who can't play the position and Rice that's so far behind. It's easy to see the drop off instantly when you don't have a body that can steal you minutes. The cohesiveness of those lineups when the bench comes in look like 2 completely different teams.
Yeah, not bashing Bobby at all. He hasn't made an impact off the bench since the beginning of the season and his play recently has been very concerning to the point it doesn't appear he has the skills to compete at this level. He's certainly had bad injury luck which has zapped his confidence and ability to play as a backup here. The play he got benched in the 2nd half pretty much sums up his string of luck.
Will be interesting to see where conversations go with him after the season
Ole Miss freshman guard Amaree Abram in the portal. He was recruited by KU last year down the stretch before going elsewhere. Avg 8ppg.
A 6-foot-4, 190-pound guard out of Port Arthur (Texas) Abram appeared in 33 games and averaged eight points, two rebounds, and two assists for the Rebels season. He plays with a "win at all costs" type of mentality and has a very serious and mature approach to the game. On both ends of the floor, he is relentless and displays an incredible amount of toughness.
He has an attack-first mindset and is always looking to make high-effort plays on the defensive end. Abram is naturally more of a scorer than a passer who has a little mix of everything in his scoring bag. He can get to the rim, finish through traffic, nail the jumper off the bounce, or score with the in-between floater.
Kev is expected to practice this week
Non ideal bracket.
I'll remain hopeful we got a run in us. Time for J Will and Juan to lead us back to the Final 4!
Wow thx NCAA
Sky Clark, Devin Ree & Kamari Lands all in the portal. Former top 100 kids
Elijah Fisher in the portal from Tech
Kendric Davis would have got 25 a night at KU. En fuego against Houston today
Since February, KU is 69/223 30% from 3. Not good
Yeah Selden had awful form his freshman year and by his Jr year it was money. They didn't tweak Yes's shot last off-season so I don't know. It's awful to watch especially when it seems like an easy root cause to his problems.
Yes is such a poor set shot shooter and the ones he missed were bigger then the few he made. He misses way too many shots, mostly wide open, in the flow of the offense where motion and passing have created the opportunity and its maddening. One of the big weaknesses of this team is its shooting and more specifically the lack of outside threats we have outside 2 guys. Juan is hard to include since he doesn't look to shoot them often. A good example was MJ Rice making a 3 off dribble penetration yesterday. He hadn't made a 3 since November. Yes is 10/40 from 3 since late January including 5/22 recently, that's awful. Whether it's Kev, Yes, MJ or someone else that wing/guard that's often open on the weakside has killed a lot of good offense all year
Yep that's really it. We have guys that are not where they should be and that's going to impact next yr as well
I don't think we can afford to
That was fun
Good job Joe you suck
Brick brick turnover
Brick
And he can't do it
Just a lack of focus. Udeh makes the worst decision he can make as usual
1 on 5 playing hard
Great job juan. Keep feeding the other team
Gradey that's pathetic effort pathetic
Now it's over
Can't make a layup
Then we get no show from juan tonight. That's how you know
