Is today the day? (Preston & De Sousa) • Jan 08, 2018 02:33 PM

@KUSTEVE But we do have an idea what the hold up has been.

I'm not blaming anyone, don't get me wrong. I'm just stating the timeline as it happened.

“I don’t think that I’ve ever had a situation where I’ve dealt with this like we have since I’ve been here,” Self said, “and it has nothing to do with Kansas. It has everything to do with the system.”

Describing how the landscape has changed, Self recalled how 20 years ago virtually every athletic department had one compliance official that was responsible for every program and everything going on within said department. Today it’s much different.

“Now you have five to seven (compliance officials) and the mandate of the NCAA is, we want to monitor all these things,” Self said. “So I don’t know that it’s a lot different — I just know there are more things that have become known now than what there was before in large part because you have the manpower to look into them where you never looked into everything before.”

Is today the day? (Preston & De Sousa) • Jan 08, 2018 01:10 PM

@KUSTEVE He is actually partially correct with his time line. The Preston incident occurred 11/11. KU didn't submit the Preston information until 12/20. Maybe they dragged their feet, maybe that's just how long it took. There was an article back in mid-December where Self was quoted as saying that the Preston situation is unlike any other he has had at Kansas. They didn't submit the DeSousa stuff until around Christmas time because they could not submit it until they confirmed that he actually would be accepted and meet academic criteria. Definitely no feet dragging on this one.

Regardless, Self has said for about two months that we would know something relatively soon, and then any day now, and then any minute now, and now it's this afternoon. Self doesn't really know if he'll get word today; he just said he didn't talk to anyone last week. Do you think NCAA Compliance office called him Sunday? Maybe so, I suppose....

Is TCU Mitch Lightfoot's Break Out Game? • Jan 07, 2018 01:48 PM

Mitch is one of the few players who are truly playing for Kansas University because of his pride for the program. He had a lot of natural passion and energy as a result. I wouldn’t expect this kind of statistical performance again, especially once Preston returns.

Self’s best team at KU • Jan 07, 2018 05:34 AM

good defensive energy. needed a 55% night from 3 to win by 4. similar to Texas. giving up too many extra possession by not being able to rebound. beat a well coached team though.

No way to predict this team. They make threes, they can win. They don't, they won't. Brodzianski is going to have a field day with Doke.

The Preston Situation is causing cabin fever among the board rats. Everyone is turning on the other...

Is NCAA Biased Against KU • Jan 04, 2018 07:23 PM

Incident occurred 11/11. Turned into NCAA around 12/20. This is their 8th business day looking into the matter. I think that is a reasonable amount of time to allow something to be investigated and vetted properly. I wouldn't expect to hear anything back on Billy or De Sousa any sooner than the week of January 15th. If we are fortunate, they turn it around quickly.

Trae Young rests in both halves • Jan 04, 2018 01:54 PM

We’re we not all in on Trae and whiffed? That would have given the entire perimeter a minute shift. It is in the past now.

Billy Momma Drama • Jan 03, 2018 08:24 PM

@BigBad Unfortunately, I don't have the time to research it any further than what the APA reports it to be. Like most studies, there are conflicting reports, I'm sure.

Self's Worst Team at KU • Jan 03, 2018 04:34 PM

Edit.

Billy Momma Drama • Jan 03, 2018 04:29 PM

@Kcmatt7 Didn't Alexander stick around the entire time, and unable to play? Maybe my recollection is off.

Billy Momma Drama • Jan 03, 2018 03:40 PM

Dear Mrs. Preston,

Your child was discovered to be in a vehicle that has taken two months to explain how he received it.

Any one who has ever purchased a vehicle could support that purchase within one business day.

I'm not saying that he did anything wrong. I'm just saying the explanation shouldn't take this long.

It frustrates the fan base that year after year our coach brings in a player who behaves questionably and it inflicts chinks in the armor of the Mythical Legend that is Kansas Basketball. It then also creates a major distraction to the rest of the program.

So, yeah, there is a lot of unfair hell fire and brimstone spewed toward your young man.

Self's Worst Team at KU • Jan 03, 2018 02:15 PM

Replace Andrea Hudy? You must be joking.

Exposed again • Jan 03, 2018 02:11 PM

The Preston ordeal was in KU Compliance hands for a very, very long time before being sent to the NCAA. If KU Compliance takes 8 weeks, I don't think we should expect the NCAA to turn it around in less than 2-3 weeks.

Self's Worst Team at KU • Jan 03, 2018 02:09 PM

Don't forget the 14-15 team (would lose to the Topeka YMCA) went 26-9 and 13-5 in big 12. So we still have a chance to turn this around. I'm afraid that is not going to happen until Preston comes along, but this will be a totally different team in 8 weeks. The streak is becoming a burden at this point.

@cragarhawk he was on postgame w spectrum. he didn’t seemed pissed. he was gushing over Chris Beard and how hard his team competed.

i’m guessing self doesn’t come down hard on them. he has no where to go until Preston or Silvio become a factor

Coach Self shuts out Shaka...again. • Jan 01, 2018 10:49 PM

don’t believe shaka ever won the AAU. good luck in this conference.

Coach Self shuts out Shaka...again. • Jan 01, 2018 10:47 PM

@HighEliteMajor was he out coached ? i’d don’t remember the details of the scheming that day. i remember the team once again shot an insanely low % from 3 and Kief had 8 huge turnovers. The morris twins also ran their mouths before the game like they did the UNI game the year before. but that’s just what they did.

Now here is some interesting comments • Jan 01, 2018 10:43 PM

Mitch appears to be the next polarizing player a la Lucas, Traylor, Morningstar....

Coach Self shuts out Shaka...again. • Dec 31, 2017 04:59 AM

shaka still has the biggest win. the one that prevented a national title in ‘11.

the league needs shaka to be good. the worse the teams are in this league the more it waters down the b12 title.

New Zone More Tricky That It Seems? • Dec 30, 2017 07:14 AM

@Crimsonorblue22 probably never considered self would cave on his principles of M2m and wasn’t prepared to adjust. When Self made that switch It felt like checkmate even though the score didn’t say it yet.

New Zone More Tricky That It Seems? • Dec 30, 2017 07:07 AM

Bill spoke after the Arizona st game about possibly trying to figure out some match up zone schemes. MUZones have really caused Kansas some heartache. I believe Bucknell and Bradley used it against em. Oregon did as well. Post game he said he did it more to buy the guys some minutes and slow the game down. It just also happened to be the best strategy against a team who was a One Mamba Wrecking crew and no outside ahooters.

edit: i know this wasn’t MUZ but your post just got me thinking about those comments a few weeks back.

Texas Down, Four to Go Until Morgantown • Dec 30, 2017 07:02 AM

Higgins set Shaka up early. Nice foreshadowing of the technical to come when Higgins gave him a warning for having his toes on the coach box line. When he gave that warning it was only a matter of time before Higgins found any reason at all to t him up. And then he went after him on the sideline. Higgins probably still fuming over the money Smart and VCU cost him in 2011. (i keed, i keed)

Texas Down, Four to Go Until Morgantown • Dec 30, 2017 05:10 AM

i wonder why self seemed to go away from Garrett late. i am very pleased with his play. defensively— and playing within himself and the offense.

as a basketball fan i really enjoyed watching bamba that first half.

Texas Down, Four to Go Until Morgantown • Dec 30, 2017 05:03 AM

i thought they broke the press easily....once they finally got it in it was moved up the court quickly.

once the 2 new bigs come in i expect Newman’s minutes to dwindle. he just doesn’t bring much at all right now.

Keegan • Dec 29, 2017 02:38 PM

I'm thinking it will go
Kansas, Oklahoma, TCU, WVU, Texas, Baylor, Tech, Iowa St, Kansas St, Oklahoma St.

The Hawks took care of business against Buddy Heild's heroics. No reason to believe they can't handle Trae Young.

Coach Self • Dec 29, 2017 02:05 AM

@Jayballer54 Kansas State ?

Coach Self • Dec 28, 2017 10:28 PM

18-0 Wins the Conference Free and Clear, too.

When the eff are we getting Billy?!?! • Dec 28, 2017 03:38 PM

The bigger question I have is why is this the new trend at Kansas? Is it the same at other schools and I just don't follow other teams as closely to find it? Preston, Diallo, Alexander, even Jackson and Bragg although able to play brought a lot of negative attention to th University. Brannen Greene, Nadiir Tharpe...Selby.

6 teams in top 25. Let's see what happens after they all beat the hell out of each other and how many FF teams we have from the big 12. I don't think we have a FF team in the league based on current rosters and performance. (I reserve the right to change my opinion after Silvio and Preston return).

I'm around page 160...glad to hear you picked it up. It has been a lot of fun to read. There have been a lot of comments from former players who have triggered memories for me regarding specific conversations posters have had in the past. For example, Brady Morningstar. It is very clear and evident that that the players had a completely different perspective about B Star than the posters did.

Happy Holidays!

Trae Young • Dec 23, 2017 04:21 PM

"I want to break Kansas' [Big 12 title] streak," Young said then. "It's not going to be easy, by any means, but that's something that I'm going to be hard on all year. If I would have [gone] to Kansas, I would have been a little bit different, but I wanted to break that streak. That's my goal. We're gonna do it. I have all faith in God that that's what his plan is."

@HighEliteMajor He was 205 in his VERY BEST Shape at Kansas.

Trae Young • Dec 23, 2017 02:44 AM

This may have been a giant miss for Kansas. It will be a good topic to revisit midway through the big 12 season after coaches like Bill Self and Huggins have tried to expose him and see if they can show how to defend him. He might just be the next best thing from the Big 12 since KD and have his way all year.

So it smells good? • Dec 19, 2017 09:00 PM

@KUSTEVE that is fantastic

Bill Self • Dec 18, 2017 11:56 PM

looks pretty evident to me he
has had some medical procedure on his nose.

That was fun • Dec 17, 2017 05:50 AM

@Crimsonorblue22 agree. pleasantly surprised with his continued improvement and improving touch around the rim.

That was fun • Dec 17, 2017 05:07 AM

The team is just not that good. I have been saying it since the Kentucky game. The part that puzzles hme is that they seem to be less than the sum of all of their parts. Unusual for a Self team. Still love watching and maybe they will surprise us all.

My All Baggage Team • Dec 16, 2017 02:53 PM

JR “the samurai” Giddens and Josh S(h)elby belong in there somewhere.

Vent Here.... • Dec 15, 2017 11:18 PM

@HighEliteMajor seemingly nothing is missed for KU Men's BB the last few years....Selby, Chieck, Alexander, Josh "the Crane Kick Macchio" Jackson, Bragg...but unfortunately, there is an awful lot of truth to your question/statement.

So nothing yet? • Dec 15, 2017 07:22 PM

@jayballer54 I understand that there might be a few other items that need to happen in addition to the SAT/ACT Results. Even if he passes, there is no guarantee he comes.

Vent Here.... • Dec 15, 2017 03:43 PM

Maybe it was good fortune that Billy hit the curb. Just think if all these issues were somehow brought to light after a season; potentially resulting in vacated wins.

Billy , Silvio , Sam • Dec 14, 2017 12:09 AM

@Hawk8086 I get the feeling Self is just waiting to announce it at the semester break.

@KUSTEVE I didn't want throw that out there, but since you did I'll follow. I saw him off screen recently and I agree. Hopefully it's no big deal.

Newman • Dec 13, 2017 08:21 PM

Self:

“I think if (Newman) would just worry about things that have an impact on us winning or not, I think he’d be better off,” Self said after that game. “Missed Devonte’ a couple times wide open in transition.”

What is it that he is NOT SAYING that we should infer? If he's not worrying about having an impact on winning, or not then what is he worrying about?

Fluff piece on Cunliffe • Dec 13, 2017 05:33 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 ya, something about being the shortest guy on the court and still believing every rebound should be mine has caused me problems over the years. I'll give it up when my knees and ankles give it up. Until then, the rest of the body will have to deal.

Fluff piece on Cunliffe • Dec 13, 2017 04:01 PM

@justanotherfan It really messed my shot up. I started shooting the ball about a foot off to the right of the rim every time. Before the injury, I was just a foot off to the left every time :)
