D line looks sllllloooow
51-10 (Ku scoring with ease) with an early field goal and late TD by the bears.
Ooooh....multiple times in captions. They should definitely fix that.
I'll be there next week! Hope it cools/dries off by then. We've been suffering in Lawrence. 109 degrees Sunday was bad. Monday was worse, though not as hot. I've been in 115 degree temps with 15% humidity and it was nothing compared to 102/70%. 83+ degree dew temp is like drowning. Today wasn't much better.
Have to say, though, I'm pretty stoked for the FB season. I always am at this point, but this year might be for real!
OK... guess they dropped the Hobo rambler mascot I remember (growing up in Illinois) and now Loyola Chicago has a wolf as a "mascot".
Could be confusing for an intern.
Where was this? That's actually kind of weird. Sports Info people are super geeky about this kind of stuff. I read an article today that I know said Ramblers. Plus "Wolfs"? Not Wolves?
@bskeet That seems right. I love old maps!
what was the dashed looking line that goes up Mississippi and through campus? Path? trolley?
Lackluster finish to game 3
should be fun to hear from CB
The only guys I'm not concerned one bit about are the national championship dudes: Juando, Kev and KJ.
I don't like any of the changes. There's no nostalgia/pride left to salvage, so just ditch the Big 12 name too.
In 2017 the KU-Italy games were streamed. ~~I remember finding a sketchy free link and watching at least one of the games.~~

Bad memory. It was on "Flohoops" for 29.99
EJ at Iowa State, end of game. Still gives me goosebumps.
But seriously, the EJ lob to Tyshawn fast break dunk against Purdue in the '12 tourney is right up there. Ballsy play in clutch time.

@wissox I know their rep. How could they know this, though?
Walk around Wisconsin. Talk to four people and round up a bit.
I don't think I've never been to an exciting game in person... maybe last year WVU at home 76-74... we had a bit of a comeback. Mostly I get tickets to crappy matchups. Never saw a loss though. Harvard was memorable last year because I walked the mile and a half to AFH and back in sub zero temps.
Kind of a dumb list using those criteria, but whatever. Mostly good players
I always thought the Beasley hype was more than he was worth. Did Blake Griffin ever play in a game against KU?

@Kcmatt7 In my humble opinion, they could not possibly screw up parking any worse than it is right now. The last time I went to a game (4-5 years ago), we had to park at Walmart and take an Uber. Pathetic.
They can't screw up parking that doesn't exist. You failed at parking, that's the bottom line.
There are huge lots on campus that have shuttles. Lots/garages downtown that have shuttles. Neighborhoods where people live nearby that have street parking that don't need to be torn down and paved over for 6 days a year.
I go to a couple games a year and usually don't arrive much before kickoff, and I can ALWAYS find a spot in the neighborhood north of the stadium. Sometimes it's between 9th and 6th, but it's not hilly there so who cares. It's a party atmosphere and fun to walk through the neighborhood. If we go earlier to tailgate it's even easier to get a close spot. Not much diff than walking from that lot west of arrowhead to the K for a baseball game.
@FarmerJayhawk I've been there many times (when it was the hot spot for live music in the 90s). Still have nightmares about the restroom. Three lines: Sink... toilet... drain in the floor. All overflowing.
I'm not telling y'all the places I like to go. Getting too crowded as it is.
I'm not sure how long ago it's been since Hawk Talk was at Henry T's... 30 years?
Roy was doing it at AppleBees when I left Larryville in '96. When I moved back in 2010 it was at Salty Iguana. Last few years it's been at Johnny's West.
I will also say that I've given Henry T's many many chances since 2010, and they've let me down nearly every time.
Edited to add: Yankee Tank Beers were pretty good though, but they shut down in April.
Tried to watch it. Enjoyed the third quarter. turned into a flop fest in the 4th quarter, so I'll check back on the NBA in 5 years.
Go, CB though. Don't be a flopper.
Higgins got a lot better the last 5 or 6 years, to be fair. Half the time he made calls I was protesting out of sheer reflex recently. Thankless job, but somebody has to do it.
@mayjay You seem abnormally sweaty. My internet search supports my combination of a random second-hand family diagnosis (Uncle Rick was sweaty and he got hit by a train and died young), and he had a red face sometimes and I saw him drinking a beer. Clearly you're an alcoholic diabetes heart attack applicant or you're a normal man living in the southeast US.
I'd avoid making assumptions about people's lifestyles based on the way they "look." Possibly more going on than you know, and most likely they've already explored all the amateur diagnoses with actual healthcare pros.
@nuleafjhawk no friday buck night?
Happiest day of my life was back in 2015 when I opened my buck night hotdog and it had TWO shriveled wieners on it.
We're going to tailgate a bit before the game, so we'll probably avoid most of the overpriced stuff in the stadium.
Going to a royals game tomorrow night to remember the good times, but, yeah, Miami is having a fun run and I'm happy for them.
It's gonna be Juan, Kev, KJ, Hunter and who cares
Edit: + whoever can rebound
HUGE. Kev coming back is ten times bigger than any of the new guys, including Dickenson.
I'm not sure if y'all remember how inept last year's team was with Kev hurt or on the bench. The guy is locked in like a coach on the floor. Juando and Kev + any three other halfway competent players is a damn good team.

@DanR I had a rotator cuff that only permitted me to do backhand throws. Got hooked, and one day rotator cuff cured, somehow, someway? Tied my career low today, -6!
Hmmm. I mostly threw backhanded anyway. I might give it another shot.
Did you all miss Mizzou's championship in women's disc golf?
Not knocking it, because it's pretty fun. My career ended due to a rotator issue. Great course in my wife's hometown of Monett, Missouri.
So Duke didn't lose any players to the Portal. Hmm. We might have a nice way to test this strategy of dumping your entire roster.
I hope Zuby ends up at TCU and Udeh at Baylor
Keeping track of our rejects:
- Pettiford- East Carolina
- Cam- Boise State
- Zach- UC Santa Barbara
- Rice- NC State
- Zuby- visiting Nova, St. Johns, TCU, SDSU
- Cuffe- ?
- Joe Yesefu- ?
- Udeh- ?
@Jethro You want a whole team of guys like Remy? I'm glad he stepped up in March, but it did take the entire season for him to buy in. Guys like Mitch, Dave, Och, Braun and Harris were the real Jayhawks on that team.
If the roster turns over again next year, really what's the point of college sports? I just don't care about these transfer guys. They barely seem like Jayhawks. No tradition or lineage.
@jayballer67 said in Bye Bye Ernest:
Well hopefully we can find another quality big looking for a spot now , getting late in the game
Well there are two pretty goods one out there who'd be perfect... Udeh and Zuby. Seriously, who would be better than either of those guys?
We still need someone who can attack the rim like Jwill and Braun did. I thought KJ did a decent job when he got fed the ball in the paint last year, and he'll be even better this year. Wilson probably attempted more layups than KJ. (missed more too, for sure).
I have zero problem with KJ/Hunter combo. IMO, that's a damn nightmare scenario for opponents, considering the big guy can step out and KJ is camping in the lane as the clean up crew. They double Hunter and KJ has a freaking dunk fest.
My Mizzou inlaws frequently refer to the University of Kansas as "Gay U" (not sure why, tbh... some sort of insult, I suppose), but if Norm Stewart had dropped that one 30 years ago, I wouldn't have been shocked. I guess that's the same sort of juvenile history between Cinci and Xavier.
Good grief. Radio hosts sound like 8th graders on top of it all.
Any idea what the competition will be like? I recall Doke's first year they played a couple ragtag teams in an Italian high school gym.
I'm going to be pissed if Udeh leaves... already showed signs of elite defense, and we could have three more years of that guy instead of one year of a transfer money grabber. Yuck.
Yay! I felt we were due for a summer trip.
@dylans I basically agree with you. I've never liked the old/senior+ transfers, but I have to admit a few of them have salvaged what would have been horrible seasons. Usually there's a couple guys (Harris/KJ/Udeh etc) on every team to still make it feel like there are Jayhawks on the floor.
I don't see guys going pro as recruiting fails. Maybe Self expected to keep Braun for four years. Hoped to keep Dick for a couple. Wilson still had a year or two. How far can you plan ahead with top talent coming out of high school Gotta fill those holes with something other than greenhorns. IMO.
He looks pretty good to me... Somewhere in between Braun and a young Greg Gurley
Nothing against Edwards, but he's really not a bill self kind of big man. It'll be interesting to see if Huggy can toughen him up
Even as of January of 2023 Lunardi was only able to correctly predict 2 in his updated bracket. (8 Iowa in the MW and 2 UCLA in the west).
The dude is practically psychic.
I can't find Lunardi's full March 12th pre-selection bracket prediction, but he got 5 out of 16 spots correct in seeds 1-4. Practically anyone can pick at least 62 out of 68 teams that simply make the tourney, but his schtick is predicting the bracket matchups. He's not good at that at all.
If you take a snapshot of his early bracket prediction for 2024, I'll wager he'd be unlikely to have more than 3 or 4 teams in the correct spot come next march. Yet, here we are talking about about him.
@BShark Peak year for big shorts
