Sure, why not. Grimes isn't competition for RJ. Under this scenario, Grimes is fighting with Garrett for first small off the bench kind of minutes.

They know each other but aren't close. It won't really matter. RJ is going to play and play a ton no matter who's on the roster next season.

He is not going to be reinstated. He needs to move on.
Silvio needs to do whatever he wants. There’s nothing preventing him from playing professionally if he withdraws from the draft. There’s nothing preventing him from sitting out next year at Kansas, playing his senior year, and finishing his degree. How many better players are there in the class of 2020 than a 22 year old Silvio? Not many.
There will be quite a few actually, and unlike him they will have played for the past two seasons. It is what it is, and unlike this year's crapshoot in recruiting his situation is all but guaranteed; i.e. he will not be reinstated by the so-called independent review board.
No, there won’t be. 22 year old Silvio is a surefire 5*, top 10 recruit in the 2020 class. Who would you rather have in 2020-21: Silvio or Walker Kessler? You’re acting like he’s just been sitting on the couch for 2 years. He’s been in the best S&C and nutrition programs in the country and been coached by a HoF’er. So you’re either saying our entire staff sucks or players can’t improve from age 19-22. If that’s your view, make your case.
I’m saying he could stay and play his senior year. He doesn’t need to be reinstated to play college basketball again. The committee cannot increase a punishment and Silvio still has another year after his current suspension as it currently stands.

Yes. Unless Grimes could get a waiver he has to sit a year. There's no giving a player a release anymore since the Transfer Portal became a thing. The player just goes to the compliance office and asks to be entered. That's the end of it. The head coach has no formal role anymore.
And we do not have to take him back. If Hampton wants to commit and will do so sans Grimes, you just be honest that it didn't work out and everyone moves on like adults. If Grimes wants to go back to college, transferring makes sense. But I still think the plan for him and his crew is to stay in the draft and then see what happens.

The difference, of course, being that your interns went to those other gigs and you knew that they would, and they were immediately if not sooner replaced. Whereas with the new rules that have been put in place programs can be held hostage by players who are not ready but are trying to interview for positions that they may or may not get. Meanwhile, how many scholarships do we have to fill? And can we? There is the flaw........
Not always. Depending on the time of year it could be a month or 6 weeks before someone could step in. Self, like I did, encourages these guys to test the waters. How can he encourage them to test and not know if they actually did? That makes no sense. KU isn't being held hostage by anyone. Self has a really good idea who's staying and who's coming back. He wouldn't even take Grimes back if he knew it would chase away Hampton and/or Wilson. I doubt we fill them all. By my count, we have 3 left to give assuming we get Silvio and Dotson back. Adding Hampton and Wilson would mean we use 12.
FR: McBride, Braun, Enaruna, (Hampton, Wilson)
SO: Dotson, Agbaji, McCormack
JR: DeSousa, Garrett
SR: Lightfoot, Udoka
Even Bryce is tracking on being a top 30ish guy in the new rankings. Dude has had an incredible spring. You go after the best fit for your roster. Period. Some guys like Ben just go supernova after a year and then you’re scrambling anyway. We don’t make the tournament without Wiggs in 2014.

If a guy wants to test, more power to him. Self can’t coach the guys now anyway, so might as well have them go get some structured competition and get feedback on their game from another source.
The feeling around the program is Dotson is coming back. He's not a first rounder and most scouts are saying he should go back to school. It would take some gymnastics to bring Grimes back.
And that helps with RJ. He's a guy that likes to play with other really good players and win.
Memphis isn't getting RJ. Not enough ball to go around with Boogie in the fold.

I don’t know anything other than KU leads for both. Some of the overseas for R.J. chatter has faded a bit though. Yeah Braun is a legit 6’8 at this point. I don’t think he’ll be much of a contributor until he quits growing and can add some weight.
Theory: since summer classes at KU start the 4th, it's possible RJ and Jalen announce right after his visit and get to LFK by then.
It's just his final 5 schools.
The UNC visit may not happen.
