@HighEliteMajor NCAA has precedent for suspensions. I'd say this was by far longer than any for the same crime. At least lately. DeSousa would have a case. He may not win, but he'd have a case.

It doesn't matter whether or not he knew his guardian took cash. All that matters is the NCAA punished him unfairly in comparison to others for similarly breaking the rules..

I did the math on this at one point, but DJax got like 9 games for $5k. The NCAA and KU agree Silvio got $22,500. Multipoly 9x4.5 40.5. Silvio should be back in about December if the appeals committee follows any precedent. Just give him time served and call it good.

Committee meets in late May or early June I think. Different body made up of all non-NCAA people.

Depends on whether they’d ask him to pay back the cash. Half kidding. But yeah, he’d get out of it easily.

Evans thinks Memphis for Precious according to the article published like 4 hours ago. But Bossi thinks Kansas. Both do have Enaruna.

I feel very good about us ending up with Hampton. He is an Adidas kid...

Good catch. Just misread it. I'm really watching what Watford does. If he ends up at Memphis, Precious won't.

When is the deadline to declare and back out to maintain your eligibility? I know it’s on here but I can’t find it. Thanks

Late May I think? Something like the 25th. And you go undrafted you can return to school starting this year.

@BShark Yes. And Wiggins and Josh had such a huge impact on the University of Kansas. He should definitely try diligently to get more of those types of players................

Just think about the counterfactual of not having Wiggins or Josh and who we'd run out there. Starting Brannen Greene and Carlton Bragg all year would not be ideal.

Agreed. I think he's best as a utility man off the bench. Bring back Doke, get Blackshear, sign Holyfield as the first big off the bench. Prosper.

Bill and Kurtis. Looks like he’s getting the full court press.

He's also originally from Mali. I know Cheick enjoyed his time in Lawrence and is thankful for the giant wad of cash KU threw at lawyers and PR people to get the NCAA to clear him.

Do you blame him? Might as well go through the process while the NCAA decides whether you get to play this decade.

Zion

IDK when he played they rarely lost and it wasn’t Zion’s fault. I would have gone with a different example like Grimes.

I don’t like OADs, but I think you sure as heck take the right one.

Josh

Anthony Davis, Josh Jackson, Zion Williamson all nice players that just needed surrounded by a few upper class men to succeed.

We all may have a different opinion if Embiid had stayed healthy.

We run people like crazy if Bill lets Joel come back his sophomore year. I’ve heard Joel was in tears in Bill’s office wanting to come back and Bill would not take yes for an answer.

I'm just feeling zany because everyone is jumping ship (even if DDot comes back as expected) and KU hasn't added a player since the fall.

Right, which is totally normal since the early signing period isn’t until next week. There’s always a lull during the season.

Sure. Just two completely different families and players. The plan from the jump was for Q to be one and done. Devon was almost the opposite. Take 2 or 3 years and develop before leaving.

@Crimsonorblue22 I have no doubt he cares deeply about the team he’s playing on. I just don’t think it would’ve mattered if it was KU or UK. There just aren’t too many Lightfoot’s out there. Most become fans over the years like Graham. I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad thing as long as the kid buys in. I just had envisioned Dotson being here long enough to leave a legacy.

And he'll very likely be here at least another season.

dylans said:

@FarmerJayhawk Is the last paragraph how other institutions get out of having in-eligible players? Just play them and make the NCAA come at them (i.e. Zion)???

Pretty much. Since they don't have subpoena power the NCAA only relies on voluntary cooperation and publicly available information. If they gather that something is fishy, warn the school, and the school still plays the kid (e.g. Derrick Rose) then they can drop the hammer citing the school's "lack of institutional control." But in cases where the information is sufficiently buried and not provable, like Zion, the NCAA is relatively powerless to do anything.

Who in the world do we have for next year? • Apr 12, 2019 06:07 PM

@dylans I think you can test twice and the third time you're in for good. I expected Dotson gone after next season to avoid competing with the HS kids in the 2021 draft.

Who in the world do we have for next year? • Apr 12, 2019 06:01 PM

@BeddieKU23 my feeling is this is a no-brainer for them. Devon won't be at KU for 4 years and you get multiple opportunities to test, so why not?

Who in the world do we have for next year? • Apr 12, 2019 05:56 PM

I'm more optimistic about Doke coming back than most. If for no other reason than he'd be option 1, 2, and 3 for us next year. Not getting Hurt or Stanley. Still in a good spot with Achiwua and Enaruna. I know there's some optimism about Silvio getting cleared since it's a separate committee that makes the call on an appeal. They're scheduled to meet in June so we'll have something by the draft I'd wager.

@Texas-Hawk-10 per the NCAA it was only $22,500, unless they are mistaken in their own ruling. If the NCAA follows precedent (lol), Selby got $5k and had to sit 9 games. $22,500 should be this season (36) plus 5 more. Or maybe the appeals folks will take it easy and just say a year is plenty. http://www.ncaa.org/about/resources/media-center/news/ncaa-provides-reinstatement-decision-kansas-silvio-de-sousa ↗

@FarmerJayhawk Once concern I have for Doke returning .. we focus all of our preseason efforts on feeding the post and playing through Doke. And then, when we get in a game with a team that plays small, Self lets the other team dictate the style of play and we're in the same spot we've been in much of the time. And, of course, while I'm sure he's been "really working hard" on free throws, he'll be less than 50% again. Actually less than 40%. He was worse last season after supposed work than the year before.

To be fair, we didn’t lose a game with Doke this season. And we didn’t exactly play a softball schedule. And we made a FF built around him with a 4 out run and gun.

Doke is a stud. A defensive presence and an incredibly efficient scorer.

This. We were absolutely rolling with Doke last season. He's just such a weapon on both ends in spite of all his flaws. He's a huge upgrade over McCormack, who shot 60% from the line, not exactly a knockdown shooter.

2019 Transfer List • Apr 12, 2019 04:11 PM

I'm optimistic Doke returns. Last I knew the staff didn't know whether he'd be back or not. KU is also well positioned with Hampton, Achiwua, and Dante. Also have a shot at TJ Holyfield, Rayjon Tucker, Daniel Utomi, and Tristan Enaruna.

@kjayhawks Diallo and Selby are mine. If Diallo stays for 16-17 we absolutely run everyone. We start NPOY Frank and designated sniper Devonte, then the fun starts. We can go small and start Svi at the 3, Josh at the 4, and Cheick at the 5, or Josh at the 3, Cheick at the 4, and Landen at the 5. Either way we’re great. And you’d still have Bragg and Doke as your backup bigs. Cheick would’ve been the perfect matchup for Jordan Bell and Oregon. What could’ve been.

You make the assumption that Self would have started him over LL. Logical in all worlds except the one we live. I have zero faith that would have occurred. Diallo was the perfect match vs Nova in the 16 EE. And he sat. NC chance down the drain.

We would've gone with 2 bigs, Cheick and Landen.
