Recent developments at St. Johnās and UCLA donāt hurt us with Precious and Stanley
And the way I understand it, RJ is out of eligibility in varsity TX HS competition. Heāll either transfer or go to college in 2019.

So Duke out for Hampton then?
In 2019, yes.
No new info. Just weāre interested in Tucker, Utomi, and the SDSU kid

@FarmerJayhawk So....Does it looks like we have a good shot at Stanley or Beverly if Grimes leaves?
At this point Iād say Stanley is more likely than Beverly, but with Charlie gone weāll have room for both if Grimes leaves. Beverly isnāt a guy that youād want playing 30 MPG as a freshman.
rockchalkwyo said:
Same with Russ Wood and Cory Evans from rivals.com. Whoever they are
Corey at Rivals is legit. This oneās over guys.
Hereās the list of guys Iām tracking:
Hampton
Stanley
Beverly
Tucker
Utomi
Juiston
Hurt
Achiuwa
Dante

Sure looks like KU will add a bunch of guys we don't even know the name of yet.
I think weāll be following it into July. There will be some reclassifications (Dante, Hampton) and guys can graduate in the summer and transfer. Could be wild or pretty tame depending on Grimes, Doke, and Silvio. Get 2/3 and weāre set.

LETS GET RJ HAMPTON. WOOOO. lol...
Memphis
Sure looks that way. Long way to go though.
@kjayhawks Diallo and Selby are mine. If Diallo stays for 16-17 we absolutely run everyone. We start NPOY Frank and designated sniper Devonte, then the fun starts. We can go small and start Svi at the 3, Josh at the 4, and Cheick at the 5, or Josh at the 3, Cheick at the 4, and Landen at the 5. Either way weāre great. And youād still have Bragg and Doke as your backup bigs. Cheick wouldāve been the perfect matchup for Jordan Bell and Oregon. What couldāve been.

@FarmerJayhawk thx, I wanted juice to start with, but I'm not sure where Self plays him. Wonder how his knee is?
Same here! Unfortunately for us he wanted to start and not back up Billy. Oops. Iām sure thatāll be part of the vetting process for every school. Assuming heās healthy, sign him up
Crimsonorblue22 said:
@FarmerJayhawk why is that?
Hurt wants to play with a bunch of talented guards. If Dukeās situation was really unclear, like Goldwire/Ellis/grad transfer, itās a lot less appealing to play there. KU with Dotson is appealing too, but seems like Hurt has bought into being RJ Barrett but a better shooter or whatever BS K sold him.
If Hurt signs with Duke, I REALLY want to lock up Shakur Juiston. Iāve always liked his game and heās the kind of steady presence we could use. Heās also a really good passer. And then hope like hell we can pull Stanley or Grimes comes back. Which FWIW Iāve asked on Cassius and the plurality of folks think heāll be a Jayhawk but nobody was very sure. Honestly wouldnāt surprise me if heād push his commitment date back.
Shat. Looks like Tre Jones is going back to dook. Think that swings Hurt to them. I assumed he was gone.

I could care less how we do it but we need a full 13. Just to deal with guys who cant play via eligibility, injury, who knows what else but we are great at having a less then 100% roster by the time it matters
Self is going to have to channel his inner Roy and bring back everyone whoās on the margin of staying or going pro.

@FarmerJayhawk I am not talking about getting 13 top 100 kids and or immediate impact kids. I understand thatās not feasible in most cases. Iām talking about kids that actually belong at the KU level. We have already heard Self is combing through the Juco ranks. JC kids hardly ever pan out at the next level.
Right. Iām saying itās really common for blue bloods to have one or two open every year. If a guy leaves unexpectedly a lot of times itās better to keep it for the next year or for a mid year transfer than take a flier on a kid who probably isnāt going to cut it

RJ Hampton down to 4: KU, Duke, Memphis, UK, and will cut to 3 soon. Seems more and more likely heāll end up in 2019. I think UK gets the axe
Seems like he is Duke bound regardless .
Rumor is it's not Duke if he reclassifies, but remains to be seen. He's got an entire summer to get more classes if needed.
dylans said:
I hear a rumor that Rayjon Tucker was visited by KU last night.
He's such a perfect fit at the wing. My gods. Shooting, athleticism, and experience with the system (from Dooley). He just really needs to crank it up on the defensive end, which is definitely doable given Self's expectations and Tucker not having to get every bucket.
I doubt we get 13. Itās pretty hard for any program to get 13 legit guys in any given year.

Harris got his full release. Not a huge fan but if push comes to shove, we do need at least one more guard, probably 2. Also tore his ACL in December so may be a RS candidate wherever he lands.

Jahvon Quinnerly (probably totally butchered that spelling) is transferring from Nova. Correct me if Iām wrong, but wasnāt KU one of his final options? If so, do you think Self goes after him, ala M. Newman?
Noooope. Quinerly is going to end up at a mid major and hopefully will be the wake up call the kid needs

If the NCAA will allow the undrafted HS kids to maintain their eligibility it may not be so bad. Especially with Bill being good at pulling kids late.
I think thatās where weāll eventually wind up. Kids just have to maintain the NCAAās version of amateur status.
I like him so much he gets is own thread. Anyhow, UNC is going to be tough to beat for him. They need to replace Cam Johnson and aren't getting Hurt and probably aren't getting Precious. Tucker is from the Charlotte area and has a lot of family connection to UNC. He's taking a visit to WVU this weekend, but KU has reached out and Tucker is interested. Memphis, Texas Tech, Auburn, the Arizonas, South Carolina, and Iowa State are also involved. I don't think Memphis or the Arizonas are really a threat. If I had to guess, UNC, KU, and SC are the top 3.

@approxinfinity Explain to me again why Malik isnāt with the program this season???
He was never going to get drafted unless he either developed into a true PG or grew 3". Better to go make some money while he can since he's old for his class.

And the big one, players can return to school if they're not drafted and maintain eligibility.
Really? Whatās to keep everyone from declaring just to see what will happen? Can you only declare twice?
If youāre drafted and donāt like the team can you go back to school? (I donāt think this is currently possible, but will it be?)
You can only withdraw twice. And to your last question, once youāre drafted you forfeit your eligibility. I canāt see the NCAA going the route of letting drafted players play unless itās a draft and follow kind of thing that the NHL does.
KU getting involved with Tucker
A couple things to keep in mind when looking at early entrants. Starting this year, players can hire an agent and retain eligibility as long as they don't take impermissible benefits. And the big one, players can return to school if they're not drafted and maintain eligibility.

@jayhawkcsg Ripping a 21 year old because he didn't play up to expectations after he's announced his intention to move on just comes across as low class and petty.
Especially when heās going home because he has a sick parent. Sometimes fans are the absolute worst.
Umm shades of Vick here? White lies to help the kid out the door? Didnāt Charlie transfer to KU to be closer to family?
It didnāt work out, now heās leaving. Charlie at best was a bad fit, hopefully he can find a more appropriate program for his talent. Nothing to see here.
No, go read Charlieās statement. He literally says he has a sick parent. He left Cal when Martin left. Different circumstances entirely.
BShark said:
@BeddieKU23 I wonder when we will see KU make some moves here. Gotta think something is coming with Charlie announcing he is leaving.
Itās been weirdly quiet. Self has meetings this week with all the guys who may leave so we should get a better feel for things then. Thankfully most guys arenāt deciding until mid to late April. And for Precious could be as late as around Memorial Day. Some guys who are thinking about reclassifying could show up in August. So buckle up. Itās shaping up to be a weird offseason.

Probably good for all parties.
I can answer this to some degree. I was working on a masterās and was offered a full time job in Washington, DC as a political appointee. I ended up declining (I was 22 at the time) and finishing my masterās at KU. Sometimes I wonder how things wouldāve been different had I gone that route but havenāt regretted it. I asked literally everyone I could about what I should do. Family, friends, mentors, coworkers, and the like. But you just have to think it through on your own and make the choice you feel and think is right.
6:30 I believe
Hurt likely going to Memphis for a visit this weekend. Like I said, this one is definitely not in the bag. For anyone.
John Petty transferring from Bama. Took a step back this year but really talented kid.
@Texas-Hawk-10 I literally said they were compensated, even in the tl;dr version. Unless "But there is some non-monetary compensation, which fine I guess?" isn't clear enough for you.
HighEliteMajor said:
@FarmerJayhawk So you actually invoked the word āslavesā? Think this through, my friend. The truth is out there. It all begins with the word āchoice.ā
I did! As a similar condition where they were compensated in-kind and not allowed to make income outside their little fiefdom. To be clear, comparing the plight of a KU player to that of a slave in the antebellum South isn't great, but it's an example to show that in-kind compensation is sufficient for a just labor market.
I get the choice argument in that they aren't required to attend college. I'm a libertarian for chrissakes. But you're talking about two different concepts. One, is the individual required to attend college to make a living playing basketball? No, of course not. So there's nothing preventing the player from getting paid to play basketball. Two, if the individual attends college to play basketball, are they paid while attending? Also no.
It's a normative question about whether the student-athlete should be paid in some form. My feeling is yes. They should be able to command what the market will pay from anyone who's willing to pay them, including shoe companies, universities, the G League, NBA, international teams, or the freaking Globetrotters. The NCAA member institutions should be able to play in this sandbox too. The NCAA and member institutions take in billions in TV and merch revenue each year, so how about they use that to actually pay student-athletes what they could command if there wasn't a price ceiling of zero?
HighEliteMajor said:
@FarmerJayhawk Perpetuating the myth of unpaid labor are we?
I mean... if a job where you're forbidden from making income is by definition unpaid... and scholarships aren't income. I don't pay taxes on it, it doesn't go on my W2, and it doesn't affect my income tax bill. At all. Neither does their minuscule stipend. If you really want to go nuts with it, you can say they're compensated in kind, which is fair. But they're certainly unpaid using the Haig-Simmons (economic) definition of income, consumption plus change in net worth. Student-athletes can't accept any income that would increase their ability to consume, let alone increase wealth.
I'm an economist by trade and it sure as hell strikes me as unpaid since being a college athlete does not increase your ability to consume. But there is some non-monetary compensation, which fine I guess? If you really want to go nuts, slaves were given non-monetary compensation for their labor and nobody says they were paid.
tl;dr: compensation /=/ income. Athletes aren't getting any monetary benefit from playing and can't accept any monetary benefit from playing. Unless you have a different definition?

@FarmerJayhawk I sure hope it doesn't come to him for a forward. Just get Hurt or Precious and it's all good.
Well I dunno BUT after listening to Hurt's interview with Rivals - has given me renewed hope/interest. - maybe a real reach - quite possibly reading to much into it but just sounded like he really was interested in Ku and Coach's just everything about KU - -we will see. - -see how this last month goes before his announcement. - We deserve some good news for change -- - -ROCK CHALK ALL DAY LONG BABY
My honest take is Hurt is still open to KU, dook, and UNC. I think a lot of the dook hype lately has been media driven.
