@BShark yeah Lard did not have a good go of it in Ames. So many suspensions. Also, can we not with Ryan? Not impressed.

Well this thread got cray.
Apparently kids making money when they can instead of being unpaid labor for their favorite basketball team is a controversial topic!
I hope they give him a shot at QB just to see what he's got with some coaching. Knowing Topeka, they probably don't have near the quality of coaching that most other big programs in the state, let alone comparing it to the rest of the country. But he's certainly athletic enough to play WR at this level.
Also a bummer we lost Nate Matlack to that lesser school west of us. Family stuff too much to overcome.

I wonder if Kira Lewis would be interested? He may bolt after Avery got canned. KU was on him as a possible 2019 guy.
He has entered the transfer portal
Wow this is the best player yet to enter.
DO WANT. Plenty of size to play the 2 if he can get eligible immediately.

We have several guys that have come back to finish their degrees! Door is always open.
This is a great point. KU and most power conference programs honor the kid’s scholarship if he ever wants to come back and finish. Ben finished his eventually if memory serves. I know for sure he was working on it. But he was a one and done so must be a terrible thing for the program

I count Lawson as a miss. 4 scholarship years tied up between Dedrick and KJ for one meh year from Dedrick that resulted in a third place Big 12 finish.
My gods.

I honestly dont give a rats ass about these guys. The sad fact is a lot of them "go to college" and can barely speak passable English. Then they leave early out of pressure of supporting their entire family. I'm sick of the low expectations put on the young kids today. Forget bettering yourself as a human being, just go chase money with no other skills but low level pro basketball ones.
idk about you man but if my family was borderline homeless and I had an opportunity to really help them out ASAP I'd do it in a heartbeat. Thankfully I've never had to make that choice and getting an education has been a tremendous privilege. Some aren't so lucky.

Recruiting of any sort is hit and miss, high school or transfers. Obviously some 5* HS kids didn't pan out either. But yeah, you have to play in that market now since so many talented guys transfer. You just have to do your homework and make the best judgment you can about what kind of player and person he is.
The program is Cal Supreme per ESPN. Alums include Ayton (yeah, I'm still pissed about that one), Melton from SC, Aaron Holliday, Shareef O'Neal, and Bol Bol.

This is a shit show, and has already been arrested today. However, I am 100% certain that he does have some dirt on Nike. Question is will that information still get leaked?
Could be. If it’s legit the Feds could cut a deal.
just a thought, but committing extortion isn't a good idea
I hate dook. Carry on.
And the lack of Vick around the program will be great for Agbaji and Grimes, who I think is about even money to stay or go. I feel for Vick since he has issues that aren’t entirely his own making, but the sense I got was he was nothing but a bad influence in the locker room and “stunted” the development of a couple guys.

@KirkIsMyHinrich About 10 minutes into the #kubball postgame locker room availability, Dedric Lawson broke down, buried his head in his shirt and openly wept. He said he felt the team should've accomplished more and felt it's his fault they didn't.
Heartbreaking, and obviously not true
Copied and pasted
Yep. It’s awful video. He’s come such a long way since getting suspended for breaking Mitch’s face. I really want him to come back but I don’t blame him for leaving. 🐦 View Tweet?s=12
Dedric is going to make a metric f***ton of money overseas

Which Lawson is that? KJ I would assume.
Yes. Definitely KJ. Dedric’s video salute to the fans announcing he’s leaving will probably come out this week

Player development is going to be huge. Need all the guards to take a big step forward, win a big recruiting battle, and pray for a miracle for Doke or Silvio.
@BeddieKU23 it’s been in the works for awhile I guess. Probably just wants to play major conference ball for a year.
Have heard KU and UNC are leading for Precious. Honestly he may not take any more visits.
Rumored grad transfer. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/nathan-hoover-1.html ↗
Sure! Once you’re a recruited athlete you can’t walk on at that school. KU offered Moore a scholarship so he can’t be a walk-on at KU ever. If he were to leave KU he could walk on at another school as long as they don’t recruit him. So like we did with Justin Wesley when he left Lamar.
@Kcmatt7 against NCAA rules chief.
@BShark yup. If a kid doesn’t want to compete with Moore for PT I don’t want him.
I’m not in favor of pushing Moore out. He’s a good kid, just not a great player. Pushing out guys that don’t get paid for just not being as good as you’d like doesn’t sit right with me.

Straight cash, homie. That buyout is massive and Wake isn’t exactly a financial powerhouse. I think it’s the smallest P5 school by a pretty good margin.

I wonder why Hoiberg didn't wait to see what other jobs opened up. You'd think he would have had his pick of the jobs. Vandy seems like a better place to land than Nebraska... The A&M job is more attractive. UCLA. UNLV.
He must just really like being in the Midwest.
Actually, for some people I could see Nebraska being a much better job than UCLA. I believe UCLA did ask Hoiberg.
Also Hoiberg is from Lincoln if you didn't know.
And his grandpa was the coach there about 60 years ago. Has about as much connection to Nubs as Iowa State.
Woodrow said:
Looks like Avery Johnson is out at Alabama. Looks like they are going to target Prohm from Iowa St. would be wild if that happened and Hoiberg goes back to Iowa St...
I heard Hoiberg is going to Nubs but if ISU was open it would give him A LOT to think about.

Nebraska still plays basketball?
Apparently they are putting a lot of money into it akin to what KU is doing in football to try and revitalize the program.
Can confirm. They’re entire athletic complex is bananas nice. All housed in Memorial which is cool.

I thought about going (slightly) hot(ter) rumor but it was too much typing
Some rumor out there our old friend John Calipari has interest in the UCLA job. Color me skeptical but would be a good time.
@BShark He left Gulf Coast when Dooley went to ECU and Little Rock just had a terrible season under a first year coach so it's timing more than anything. I would love to return everyone but we'll see. We may need to go 4 guards again next season.
Another guy I’d take, this time with a KU connection. Rayjon Tucker. 6’5, averaged 20 and 7 boards, 41% from 3. Started at FGCU under Dooley. https://www.sports-reference.com/cbb/players/rayjon-tucker-1.html ↗

Has he announced?
Yessir
My favorite is Marvin Bagley, who went from a C in Algebra 1 to A's in 2 other math courses plus finishing a HS diploma in like a year all while playing travel ball almost full-time. Then graduated early and got into dook. Like come on.
There were strong rumors he wasn't going to qualify if he was in the class of 2018, let alone 2017. The dirty little (well, not so little anymore) is that every single program skirts the rules. All of them. Full stop. Some are obviously worse than others, like Coach Gottfried paying Dennis Smith like $60k and Sean Miller's crowd breaking every rule under the sun (and some federal laws), but basketball is super dirty. And the scary part is football makes look like a bastion of virtue.

@BShark mercy killing.
Self isn’t going anywhere. Full stop.

Any dishonesty and misrepresentations aside, I wonder, is it Beatty's job to make sure the guy is "certified," or the University that employs the assistant coach?
In short, yes. He has to know and make sure anyone he hires is actually eligible to have that particular job. I don't think it's necessarily his job to make sure they get eligible (that's on the coach and AD), but it is Beaty's responsibility to know whether it's been done or not.
If Townsend walks away it'll be a mutual parting. He and Self have way too much respect for each other for it to end poorly. Also keep in mind he's about 60 and has kids at home. He may want to spend less time on the road.
Phew.
Ok now we REALLY can’t afford to lose to Shaka
No news in Dodd’s piece other than KU has appealed the NCAA’s decision on Silvio. If that’s what he actually meant. Knowing most sports journos there’s no use for nuance or even making sure basic facts are correct.
So from what I can gather the main sticking point is about the guy Beaty hired to be OC after he canned Meacham. Apparently the guy wasn't NCAA certified so Beaty covered up the hiring and promised to pay Love later on. Love mentioned this fact in an exit interview and KU was like dude what the hell. So they investigated and are letting the NCAA take the lead on it. Love is currently an OC at a HS in California, where in their release they said he was the OC at KU. If there's any doubt in anyone's mind that Beaty was absolutely awful at his job this should put it to rest.
FWIW I think Memphis and UK are out on RJ if he moves to 2019. The way it’s trending I think he stays in 2020.
This isn’t going to end well for David.
