@rockchalkjayhawk a bit. Makes me think we'll use all 12
Just committed per Mama B
@jayballer67 why not? He's a walk on and gets to pay in-state tuition now. He'll compete for reps with Easters and play some scout team. He's got some athletic talent, just a BIG project.
@Jethro fact check: true. The best tailgate I've ever been to was in Lafayette.

@benshawks08 Well - Duke, K-State, Mizzou - it doesn't matter. We have to root for this young man, invest in his mental, physical, spiritual and emotional well being because he lived in Lawrence for a few months and wore a Kansas uniform for a few minutes.
This is in no way directed at you @benshawks08. I just saw your post that listed Duke/K-State..
Dude what you did to that straw man is illegal in every state but New Mexico

Think we got one out of the portal. Dylan Brooks, former 4* DE from Auburn. 3 to play
Got heeeeem. This staff is insane at the portal stuff. When they identify their targets, their closing rate is silly
Think we got one out of the portal. Dylan Brooks, former 4* DE from Auburn. 3 to play
@BigBad he'd better worry more about making Luka happy
@BigBad I’ll take that bet. Walk ons plus Ivy’s and there you have it
@DanR Yesufu committed to Wazzu
@Crimsonorblue22 our last title team had 8 new players. Even guys we love like Withey and Newman were transfers. One of the constants of the Self era has been roster turnover. There will be more guys that stick around and develop. The portal stuff will slow down once the Covid seniors all exhaust eligibility. I’m all for letting players have the same ability to pursue opportunities as coaches.
The good news here is it likely means Hunter's plan is to stay for two years. It sucks less when you think of it as trading 3 years of Udeh for 2 of Hunter.
@approxinfinity that's today's NBA!

Yep, hit the nail on the head lol

@jayballer67 I totally agree that this could bite KU in the ass in the future. Hopefully not, but I will not be surprised. Recruiting over what you already have and not allowing growing pains with the younger bigs or any player for that matter will bring hesitation to any HS recruit and his family. The IARP and now this could hurt recruiting for years to come unless the player is more interested about money than playing basketball. And unless there is a clause within the NIL that states that maximum payment is based upon effort/performance, then there is no guarantee that the players will perform to their potential.
Obviously, I don’t know much about how NIL works, so if I am wrong about that, then let me know.The NIl is turning College sports into a big free Agency. - Hunter stated in an article that NIL was an increase in his pay---- over Michigan, saying that there was nobody in the room would not take a 10,000 dollar increase. - It's all about the biggest bidder. you can say what you want but bottom line is now - - It's not about a School , it's not about a Coach - -it's all about the money.
I saw a post sometime back about how now all College players is just farm system , kids getting money off the NIL & it's only going to continue to get worse - -Amateur as we knew it will no longer exists, the fun is being taken out of the game , the days of kids playing ball for the love of the game-- -is gone. It's for sure more of a business now then in the pat.Sure the ultimate goal for the kids is to make the NBA , but before there was no one an dones, fans could connect with the players gt to know the kids - -today not so much, it's making it harder to pull for the sport -everything has to be about Money , Money , Money
At the same time, fans demand more amenities, better tv production, the best coaches. All that takes more revenue. Stands to reason that getting the best players (which has NEVER been free) was next.
Hard to be that upset about it when coaches bolt for the next big thing in the middle of the night and leave their players behind. If loyalty was a big thing, many folks would've quit following the sport years ago.
@wissox yeah, he's a big man transfer from North Dakota State. In the draft now, but if he pulls out KU will be a player. 6'11 235, has a lot of skill. Was their leading scorer, rebounder, shot blocker, and assist man last year. Profiles as a 4 or 5
@nuleafjhawk oh man then don't ask about football recruiting where we have 100+ total official and unofficial visitors and their families many weekends
@jayballer67 nah we’re as solid as can be
@kuballin10 we’re going to shoot our shot, no doubt about it.
Grant Nelson come on down
They’d have a point if this was purely an EcoDevo project. Those big incentive deals that you see in the paper are almost always fleecing the state or local government that provided the package. Like the Panasonic deal in DeSoto essentially puts them on the state teet forever. Most publicly funded stadiums are very bad deals for their communities.
Buuuuuut their article doesn’t make any sense. The whole point of premium seating is to generate outside investment in the university. No local funds are going to the project. I frankly don’t care that coal and gas power the university. It’s cheap and dependable. That area of town needs some development, and if rumored things come to pass (a KU Med clinic, additional academic space) then the student body will benefit. I’m not sure it’ll drive any new enrollment directly, but if the result is we keep this staff together, recruit better, and sell the joint out every will that will increase enrollment at a time where KU needs more students. And is especially advantageous given the real struggles of the regional Regents schools plus that random JuCo in Manhattan.
@Gorilla72 yeah I expect a VERY long bench in PR. Reduce the risks of getting anyone hurt
Axtecs pls
"There is ample evidence that training alone does not change attitudes or behavior, or not by much and not for long. In their review of 985 studies of antibias interventions, Paluck and Green found little evidence that training reduces bias. In their review of 31 organizational studies using pretest/posttest assessments or a control group, Kulik and Roberson identified 27 that documented improved knowledge of, or attitudes toward, diversity, but most found small, short-term improvements on one or two of the items measured. In their review of 39 similar studies, Bezrukova, Joshi and Jehn identified only five that examined long-term effects on bias, two showing positive effects, two negative, and one no effect." https://scholar.harvard.edu/files/dobbin/files/an2018.pdf ↗
Whole thing is worth a read. The body of evidence is pretty clear it doesn't do a thing. Regardless, hopefully Huggs knows he was wrong and moves on.
Based on the social science, these are at best a waste of time and money and at worst an illegal way to make your employees dislike each other.
@approxinfinity and box checking. Diversicrats get their cut.
@jayballer67 yep, KU or IU. I like KU but until the blood dries...
@benshawks08 I don’t doubt Jalen’s sincerity at all. Outside the court required stuff, was there anything Jalen actually did, or did he just say the right things? Yeah, he got suspended, but that’s the same kind of thing I’m thinking for Huggs
@benshawks08 I mean, yes? If someone says something that offends me an apology will almost always suffice. Or even if someone accidentally cuts me off in traffic a simple wave will do. I don’t need the person to take a drivers Ed class or anything just to make me feel like they’ve learned something. Mistakes happen, people screw up. In this case, idk, maybe suspend him for a couple games max. Diversity trainings are a racket and don’t work. If he’s really sincere and knows he really messed up that’s fine with me.
I suspect this type of thing will be really common as more states legalize sports gambling. And it will get caught because these casinos are incredible at knowing the who, how much, and when. The legislature was looking at a horse racing bill back when I was working there and got a peek behind the curtain at how tracks and casinos run. It’s wildly impressive
Jesse Edwards and Raequan Battle come on down!
@BShark lolz. You love to see it
All moot now. Hardly knew ye Zuby
@DanR said in Puerto Rico!:
Any idea what the competition will be like? I recall Doke's first year they played a couple ragtag teams in an Italian high school gym.

You’d fly over the Caribbean Sea so yeah probs
Is happening this summer. Bonus basketball!
@kuballin10 I think the tomorrow stuff was premature. KU would obviously love it but it’s not a dealbreaker or anything.
So a week from today is the portal deadline. But a key thing there, it's just for undergraduates. Grad transfers have no set timelines to enter the portal. So if a guy has entered the draft, graduated, and wants to return to college, he can withdraw and enter the portal immediately. Not sure if this will apply to anyone we're interested in, but worth knowing anyway.
@kuballin10 oh gawd if we start KJ at the 3 I'll be on the OMG Bill has lost it train lol. Honestly I think they'd love to replace KJ as a starter but someone has to go displace him. Hunter clearly will at the 5. We'll see if a newbie can at the 4.
@kuballin10 I like Nelson at the 4 better :). Juan Morris Timberlake Nelson Hunter. You still have good defense in the backcourt. The length out front is absurd. Shoot, Nelson was top 3 in the Summit in both rebounding and shot blocking. His offensive game is more like Jalen than a true post. So you can still run a lot of 4 out stuff around Hunter.
@Zabudda find a Juan assists prop bet and HAMMER it
We ain’t done
The Bill Self DGAF tour continues
@Gorilla72 I believe that’s the spot
Really really really like where we’re at with Mgbako
@Kcmatt7 rumor is he's reclassifying
We can expect tens of college sports fans to watch KU Houston in Mexico City in a couple years. If there's one thing I know about Mexico, it's a raging hotbed of US college sports fandom. /s
Someone will sell this as one of Yormark's 1000 IQ moves but this is objectively stupid, along with the Rucker Park stunt. But I will give him this, he's great at getting his name on headlines.
@Woodrow he’d make more at KU vs any pro option. I’d bet he stays.
@Woodrow yeah my guess is we lose a big
We’ll see what happens but Mgbako might not make all his visits. RCJH
