This list has no credibility with me if JoJo is not included. I have him at #3 behind Wilt and Danny. The exact position is debatable but to not have him in the top 10?
No way!
@JayHawkFanToo Kevin didn't start the game, but he was his usual self. Played team ball. Got some garbage points.
I was fortunate enough to be in Toronto on business this week and went to Tuesday and Wednesday games. Justin Wesley was at the Tuesday game and last night I spoke to Keith's dad. He said Keith continues to get love from Jayhawk Alums when he runs into them. Once a Jayhawk always a Jayhawk.
Keith looked good. It was great to see that left handed shot again!
No Greene, Graham, Svi, or Diallo. A shame that it won't really be KU representing the USA in South Korea.
I saw Jackson play as a fresh and as a soph. It was like watching James Youmg play....he was simply faster and could out jump everyone else.....although Josh was younger.
It s really exciting to hear that we might be the leader.
@Crimsonorblue22 Always feels like it takes years off of your life,
@JayhawkRock78 I was at that game and remember thinking several possessions prior to the final play that it would come down to Curry beating us on the last shot. We missed a free throw I think and I was resigned to the fact that Curry would beat us with a 3. I crouched down almost exactly the way that Self did. It took me awhile to process the fact that we had won. Despite what the Richards kid said, though, that shot did not look that great to me from the start.
@Kcmatt7 The front court minutes will be interesting. Self typically plays 4 guys.. I don t think Traylor will be the odd man out due to his experience. I can t see him getting single digit minutes just based on Self s history of preferring experienced guys. That would leave Lucas or one of the freshmen as the single digit minute guys. But we will see.
@HighEliteMajor I know that movie so well, I knew the line you were referencing before I even hit "play"
1.Chukwu
2.None
3.The Outlaw Josey Wales
4. 1
@JayHawkFanToo Perhaps because I am not that interested...I can't speak for everyone.
Also, while your numbers may indeed work out....I don't think either of us know what would be involved.
I have been a commercial banker for 25 years......all that qualifies me to say is that I know what I don't know.......the people involved evidently believe they know the numbers....and it may indeed work out. I would argue it probably is not as simple as you say....but you may be right.
I am looking big picture...and it doesn't seem viable to me.
Again, maybe I am biased by my lack of interest....
@JayHawkFanToo We can agree to disagree. I question that the demand for these games is there to generate enough revenue.
And I saw the numbers.....
@jaybate-1.0 You remind me of the Church Lady from the old SNL skit....
"I wonder what it could be...?"
@JayHawkFanToo Doesn't matter if it is a league or not....only using that as an example. I am skeptical that it will bring in enough to pay these guys the money they are talking about.
@justanotherfan "if the financial part is viable". That was the first thing I thought of but haven't been able to post until now.
I think it is highly questionable as to whether something like this is sustainable...who will watch? How will this bring in enough money to pay the players and coaches?
Other "leagues" in other sports have tried and failed (World Footbal League) It might work for a little bit as a novelty....but I don't see if lasting very long.
@Lulufulu Indiana is in the field at Maui. They are expected to be good.
@jayballer54 His AAU coach mentioned that Vick expected to go somewhere and have a major impact (or words to that effect). With all the retuning talent we have....would anyone expect him to do that here?
@BeddieKU23 Your starting 5 looks like a reasonable assumption. But, I have to believe, based on history, that Traylor gets a fair amount of playing time. That leaves one of the other guys with not many minutes. Is that Bragg for awhile? Is that Lucas? I don't think Self will play 10....although he may posture as if he will at first.
@JayHawkFanToo You are absolutely correct. Michigan's original agreement to honor his scholarship was the right thing to do.....and they did it. Those facts are well known here in Michigan. Maybe not everywhere else. Belein is a good man.
@Crimsonorblue22 I had predicted SJU. I think it was you that said I had better be wrong.
I am very happy to be wrong. Great news!
@SoftballDad2011 I'm thinking not Kentucky based on his statement that he was looking for major minutes. He has seen that some highly regarded players go there and don't play a lot.....and there is competition on the front line there.
@KUSTEVE I think he goes to SJU. The hiring of a "name" coach, the last minute push, staying on the East Coast. It just seems to all add up.
I hope I'm wrong.
@HighEliteMajor Agree with your points. That has always been my contention.....don't tell me that Pot is no worse than alcohol.....we know alcohol is bad for society.....tell me what would be good about legalizing the stuff.
A lot of good points. This guy sounds like someone we should try to lock up. The fact that he has always been a KU fan sounds positive for us.
There is a fly in the ointment, as there will be with all Texas recruits......Shaka Smart. You can be sure one of his priorities will be to keep the instate talent.
I know.....he has his system which might not be the best for pure 5s....our system would appear to be better fit. But....maybe Smart can alter his system? People have made good points about whether or not Smart will be as successful as they hope he will be.
One thing he has going for him when it comes to recruiting is youth....younger players seem to respond positively to younger coaches....Self benefited from this earlier on in his career, I think. (Although they say making recruits and their families feel comfortable is Self's great strength).
Smart is not going to go quietly when it comes to us getting top talent to leave the stat of Texas.
It should be interesting as we move forward......
@ParisHawk For the top players in the country there is no upside to signing a LOI. Schools will take them without it. They will always have a school to go to.
For a lot of players......if something were to happen and they didn't go to their first choice....they are not as assured of finding a landing spot.
So, you are right....either it is a condition of assuring their spot at that school....or it provides security that their spot will be there.
But, I would imagine that many sing LOIs that really don't have to....or for that matter, probably shouldn't.
@BeddieKU23 Ingram? or Tatum?
I just saw this....Tatum out of St. Louis eliminated us. I was a little surprised....we had been recruiting him hard, I thought, and we usually do well with guys that close to home.....I thought we would at least be in it to the end with him.
@Statmachine Well I hope you are right. But, a lot of people think Ingram will not leave the state of NC.
Really funny stuff! You sounded more like Jaybate than Jaybate does!
@HighEliteMajor No way I would want him for 1 semester. I chuckled when I read his comment to that effect.
Now....it is interesting....I bet some school would....somebody trying to raise their profile perhaps?
But if I were advising the kid it would be.....why bother for 1 semester?
@JayHawkFanToo Yes and it looks like the twins may have some off the court issues....
@jaybate-1.0 Some people here in Michigan like to pretend that Izzo was never on the OAD train.....the fact is he went all in for Jabari Parker....just couldn't get him. Also, Okafor and Cliff......he went after them hard.
@Crimsonorblue22 Yes, Harris will play for MSU this year. I originally was hopeful we would handle them pretty well in November, but then I realized they had Harris. He killed us, at least in one game, at WVU.
They also have Deyontae Davis, a McDonald's AA. They are losing Trice and Dawson...everyone else back.
Now, if Swanigan is there, they will be tough.
I guess there could be 2 schools of thought from Perry's perspective. 1. If he is marginal 1st round now he will be next year also and why risk injury?
2. Stay another year and try to improve your standing.
I think there is way more upside in #2 than downside.
So even if Lee does not go....there are several openings at UK. I think they have signed 3 guys so far. But.....don't we now expect Newman and Brown to announce for UK? One of the big guys would also not surprise me.
Thoughts?
@wrwlumpy I think they are both in jeopardy. Weber more so. I can't imagine how bad they might be in the coming season.
@nuleafjhawk Can we get his footprint on a letter of intent?:)
@JhawkAlum Agree with your sentiment about being harsh. Yes...someone(s) made some bad decisions that cost the kid the opportunity to improve at the end of the year....and he could have improved a lot. Unfortunately, we'll never know.
@HighEliteMajor Makes you wonder.....did we go hard after Davis? (Or a similar guy in the past)....or did we hold back and try to keep him (or a similar guy in the past) in case we didn't get Zimmerman, Diallo, etc.?
@HighEliteMajor I agree that Self should recruit talent that fits his system.
But expecting him, or any other coach, to not pursue the most talented kids he can get is asking a lot.
Like I said, any of the coaches that get guys like Tyler Davis.... would gladly take Towns, Zimmerman...whomever if they could get them.
@DCHawker I have been holding out on saying I don't want any OADs.....but I have finally been drug....kicking and screaming....to agree with those of you that say that. Self's system is not the best for those guys.
But.....you know what....it doesn't matter what we think. Self, like all coaches knows that talent wins....he will continue to try to get the most talented kids he can....we need to accept it and hope that at some point we end up with the right mix of OAD type talent and experienced players.
Here's the thing....all coaches try to recruit OAD's....the ones that don't....CAN'T GET OADs.
Many of us have been talking about Izzo....he went ALL IN on Jabari Parker and CLIFF. He went so far all in on Parker that he didn't have a backup plan.
All coaches want that type of talent....only a few actually succeed.
I had always accepted that defeat as Arizona beat 3 #1s (if I recall correctly) to win it all. I just accepted that they were playing the best ball.....at that time...which is what the tournament is about.
But.......reading Paul's account.......sounds like a contributing factor could have been overconfidence?
@drgnslayr Isn't a good part of the success of Wisconsin due to experience?
They have upperclassmen and they were there last year.
Sure, good players, and good coaching.....but they also have experience on their side.
@Lulufulu No question, that will be one of the big differences between the A10 and the Big 12.....having to come to the Phog every year.
But, I believe in the long run he will do well at UT.
I don't think it changes anything. If the kids are being advised they will be a first rounder, they will go. Yes, they went to UK to win, but they mainly went there to get to the league. WCS, Towns, Lyles are likely gone. They say Booker is projected as a 1st rounder. I don't know what the experts say about the twins. I don't think this changes anything.
Based on Diallo's comments....I think he will see more playing time elsewhere.
With Self's history of bringing freshmen along slowly and the number of 4/5 position guys we have, I would not be surprised if he went elsewhere.
30 mins. is a lot of playing time.
@Lulufulu Even though it is true..it is still a Richard comment....for all the reasons you mentioned......he only did it once.....can he do it more?
@ralster That was a real "Richard" comment that Smart made. One upset qualifies him to make a comment like that. What a Richard.
That said, I feel like an outlier, but I think he will do well. I know the recruits he got at VCU were mostly under the radar. But, there is a lot of talent at UT and I think a younger, energetic guy will get his share. The question, of course, is will he continue to recruit the same type of player for his style, or will he tweak his style when he has a chance to recruit a player, like, for instance, Ridley. I think, either way, he will get good players and be successful.
@wrwlumpy Wow. He's fueling the fire already. You could almost call that a low blow.
After hearing Diallo's statement about playing time...I don't think we will get him. Self's history of bringing freshmen along slower along with the amount of 4/5 guys on the roster......if I felt the way that Diallo said.... I think I could see more PT at both ISU and at SJU.
