Hey, Rats! Please Don't be Like Our Haters β€’ Feb 25, 2017 12:33 AM

@mayjay

Out of 26 kids named Academic All Big 12, 6 are from WVU, 5 from KSU and 4 from KU and OU; none from OSU or Texas.

Hey, Rats! Please Don't be Like Our Haters β€’ Feb 25, 2017 12:26 AM

@mayjay

In many ways, part of being young is being young and stupid so you can learn from your mistakes...and you will have all these stories to tell your grand kids someday...I know I do.

@HighEliteMajor

I am not sure how exactly read your post. I don't believe anyone here has condoned what has happened, on the other hand, there is no need to make it more serious that it should be. I personally think that he should be suspended for at least a game, if nothing else for the bad publicity it has brought to the program, but more importantly, so he will learn that there are consequences for the things we do.

I am not privy to all the details, I don't believe any one here is, and I am not sure what exactly "was taken care in house" means; for all we know, it could be something considerably harder that one game suspension. Sometime we have to trust Coach Self...it is not like we have a choice but we know that he is basically a decent and fair man and he will try to do the right thing.

@Lulufulu

Agreed. I am so tired of all these issues trickling down, it almost looks like is by design.

@BShark

Let's hope so.

Jackson misdemeanor β€’ Feb 24, 2017 10:35 PM

@jayballer54

I would not count on that. He will likely be suspended but if he can reach a quick deal and resolve the issue, he will be quickly reinstated as well.

Jackson misdemeanor β€’ Feb 24, 2017 10:21 PM

@mayjay

Many years ago I was driving on the right lane of a busy street and just went through and intersection with the traffic light on full green. The car behind me ( a couple of hundred feet behind) was driven by a teenager and friends going to prom and he tried the beat the light and accelerated so much that he came barreling behind me and instead of rear ending my car, he tried to go around the right/sidewalk, scratching the right side of my car and hitting a light pole. The Police issued everybody tickets even when I was not at fault at all.

At the court date, the prosecution attorney got all of us together ahead of time and asked if we all had the same insurance company...which we did; he said that since the insurance company would cover all the damages he would drop all charges and let the insurance company deal with it. It happens all the time and prosecutors don't waste time on cases that can be easily resolved among the parties and that don't involve personal injuries or serious violations. This was just a stupid and misguided action by a young man that probably deeply regrets it..I would think we have all been there at one time or another.

Jackson misdemeanor β€’ Feb 24, 2017 09:19 PM

@HighEliteMajor

This is really not new, the story has been a round for a while and it is only now that charges have been filed that the story has resurfaced. The damages are very subjective, absent an actual estimate for the repair, and even then, I can take that estimate for $3K to my local body shop in Olathe and they will do the exact same thing for $2K and if I take it across the I-35 to Little Mexico in West Olathe, you can get the same repair done for under $1K cash.

More importantly and as @mayjay indicated, charges are pleaded down all the time, in most case like this it is restitution and a fine. No need to make this any bigger than it is.

Walton and Pasch β€’ Feb 24, 2017 08:31 PM

@HawkChamp

He probably thought he was talking about Kawai (and not Kansas) where he gets his favorite Maui Waui and the team he was referring were the pot growers. :rainbow:

Jackson misdemeanor β€’ Feb 24, 2017 08:23 PM

@HawkChamp

The NCAA has considered injuries and player availability in the past and it would know that the far end of the bench played those games. The starters would come back for the Conference tournament anyway.

You know I was joking, right?

AND THIS IS WHY SVI WILL BE BACK β€’ Feb 24, 2017 08:20 PM

@jaybate-1.0

Devonte has shown he can play through injuries. His cramping at the beginning of the season was obviously a chemical imbalance of some sort and seem like that is under control; I did not notice and drawback to his other injuries. Next year he could potentially have a Mason like season and move to the first round which would make staying at KU worth it. look what staying at KU did for Mason, he went from not even being in the NBA radar to potential firsts round where several mock drafts have him.

Devonte will play PG i9n the NBA and so far he has played mostly SG; showcasing his PG capabilities would make him a lot more valuable.

Jackson misdemeanor β€’ Feb 24, 2017 08:00 PM

I say rest...I mean suspend all 6 starters for the next 3 games. All that rest..I mean suspension time will give them plenty of time to think about the things they did wrong and allow them to think about the future. They have been good...I mean bad boys and deserve to be rested...I mean punished. For some reason I keep getting my words confused; I keep writing rest when I really, really mean suspension.

P.S. ISU, WVU and Baylor are going to cancel each other out anyway and KU will not have to share the title.

The Right Signs.... β€’ Feb 24, 2017 01:01 AM

@jayballer54

Coach Self has always indicated that by conference time he likes to be down to 7 players getting the bulk of the minutes and other being there to spell the primary players in case of injury or foul trouble. I have hear several other top coaches such as Coach K and Jay Wright indicate pretty much the same thing.

Hopefully it has a good ending. KU took a chance on a somewhat similar kid...Jamari Traylor...worked well for both sides.

Non-KU games β€’ Feb 23, 2017 06:41 PM

@BeddieKU23

I really don't know any thing about the kid but I am curious how he ended up in JuCo if he is that good? Even a mid-major program would have been a better option...one would think.

There are usually two reason why Division I quality players end up at JuCo. One, grades so bad that even marginal programs will not take them and two, off the court issues that most programs will pass...maybe there is a third?

Like I said, I don't know anything about him so I am not passing judgement one way or another, I am just curious how he ended up at Juco...

The Right Signs.... β€’ Feb 23, 2017 06:31 PM

@drgnslayr

Svi does a lot of things that don't show up on the stat sheets. a lot of times he drives, draws the other team in and kicks the ball out and the receiving player is in perfect position to assist an open player and he and not Svi gets the assist even when the entire sequence was initiated by him...just sayin'...

there is a reason why Coach Self is starting Svi but playing Vick almost as many minutes; Coach Self said we have 6 starters and it does not make a difference who start the game...after last night maybe we have now 7 starters.

Also, if you look at most of the top team, except for the teams like WVU that do the press thing, most top teams are now playing primarily with a 7 or maybe 8 man line up.

Non-KU games β€’ Feb 23, 2017 06:18 PM

So...who finishes second?

ISU, VWU and Baylor all play each other once, so...on the outside chance and super long shot that KU loses the rest of the games, only one of those 3 team could tie KU and to do this it would have to beat the other two team plus its other games.

Saturday 25 - Baylor at ISU. The loser is eliminated from contention.

Monday 27 - WVU at Baylor The loser and potentially bot are eliminated from contention.

March 3 - ISU at WVU..the smoke clears.

Since they are all playing one home and one away chances are they cancel each other out.

Assuming they all hold at home, a win by ISU the 25 and a win by Baylor the 27 would eliminate WVU and Baylor and ISU would have to beat OSU away to clinch second spot or potential tie with KU but this is unlikely to happen. Baylor other game is at Texas and WVU at home against TCU. Lots of scenarios but most likely is WVU goes 3-0 and gets second, ISU and Baylor go 1-2 and tie for 3rd.

What do you all think?

@mayjay

My hearing loss is not severe but enough that in a group setting it is difficult to make out the details or light sounds. I can function just fine without hearing aids and my world is much quieter without them since I cannot hear things like the clicking of the keyboard keys or the turn signal indicator. With hearing aids I can hear all these sounds and the world becomes a very, very loud place...oh well.

The Venezuelan Socialist Diet β€’ Feb 22, 2017 11:41 PM

@Kcmatt7

It is simple and complicated at the same time. Venezuela at one time was probably the richest country in South America and now likely the poorest...this is what socialism will do to you.

When Chavez took over they had a great economy and the price of oil was high and raising even for the Venezuelan crude that is very heavy and requires considerably more refining than the lighter Middle East and North America crudes and thus it is less desirable.

Like all good socialists, Chavez nationalized the foreign oil companies that were producing the bulk of the oil and started placing "comrades" with no technical expertise in charge of the business. The net result was that the oil production dropped considearble but with the cost of oil going up, even with the lower production the income was not initially greatly affected. Then the Middle East countries decide to pump more oil and lower the price and the demand for the less desirable Venezuelan crude dropped like a rock and what did the government do? Nationalized all foreign businesses, even those not related to oil, and essentially killed the last goose that laid the golden eggs.

Margaret Thatcher famously said...the problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money...and that is what happened in Venezuela and now there is no one left to take money from and they are flat broke.

HC Openings for Our KU Assistants β€’ Feb 22, 2017 06:08 PM

@jaybate-1.0

Very difficult for and Assistant Coach, even from an Elite program, to get a HC job at another big program (HC RoyWilliams being one of the rare ones). Typically they have to work their way up like Manning, Hasse, Dooley, Jancovich...and I could go on...

Here is a serious bit of advice, make sure you and particularly your daughter wear hearing protection. My audiologist indicated that even one exposure to loud noise β†—can cause permanent damage. I wish I would have known this when I did all that consulting work for the Air Force around fighter planes so I would not have to wear hearing aids now.

KU vs the Purps β€’ Feb 22, 2017 04:23 PM

You mean the whine and cheese crowd seats? They probably go for at least $10K per seat contribution to the Williams fund and are bought by wealthy posers (or corporations) that want to see and be seen there but don't care much about basketball in the first place. I have seen couples sitting there with young kids that had their head buried on their IPads the entire game and couldn't care less about the game...what an effin' waste of good seats

BPI β€’ Feb 22, 2017 04:16 PM

@dylans

The BPI is the ranking created by ESPN to boost ACC teams. If you look you will notice that 4 of the top 8 teams are ACC teams. The systems is a joke and a very transparent one at that. Why a 9 loss Virginia team or a 5 loss Duke team that KU beat are ranked ahead of KU defies logic and credibility
