Cal gets his own 30 for 30 β€’ Feb 13, 2017 04:49 AM

That is not correct. Calipari settled a lawsuit brought by season ticket holders β†— because of the Rose scandal for $100K plus he agreed to donate his bonuses which amounted to $230K.

@mayjay

Your OJ example might not be a good one because the criminal and civil cases had different levels of proof, plus there appeared to be evidence of jury nullification in the criminal case that made a guilty outcome unlikely. Also, had a replay would have been used, it would have required incontrovertible evidence to overrule the field call and as I see it, it would have been very difficult to do so. For all practical purposes the call would have stood as originally called.

Plausible deniability.

Trae Young β€’ Feb 13, 2017 04:04 AM

@BShark

Why do you think OU gets him? If he watched their game last home game against WVU with the place looking not even half full, I would think he would have second thoughts about playing for them. For the record, the box score indicates 76% attendance but that is probably tickets sold because the arena did not look even close to that.

Win or Lose? β€’ Feb 13, 2017 03:39 AM

Vegas opened at 2-1/2 and it is now at 4-1/2 for KU; however, KU has not covered in its last 7 games.

With his team 1 down, Squeaky got Td at Texas Tech. with 5 seconds which put his team 4 points behind; they hit a 3 point at the buzzer that would have tied it if not for the "T"

NCAA Tournament Committee sneak preview β€’ Feb 12, 2017 03:12 PM

@KUSTEVE

Wisconsin and Kentucky are being hurt by playing in weak conferences while teams like Duke are benefiting from playing in strong conferences; without the win over UNC, Duke us not a top 4 seed. This might be the first time in a while when the Big 10 does not have a team in the top 16.

NCAA Tournament Committee sneak preview β€’ Feb 12, 2017 02:41 PM

Interesting. The ESPN Game Day crew did not have Kentucky in the top 16 and the consensus was that they did not have enough quality games left in the weak SEC to move up; I believe Bilas indicated that they were just playing poorly.

THE FINAL TWO WEEKS β€’ Feb 11, 2017 04:18 PM

@wrwlumpy

Am I missing something? Each team has 7 games left. You left out OSU for KU which might decide the conference, WVU for Baylor which will likely decide which team tries to dethrone KU and TCU for WVU which might be the easiest game left for them.

Toughest games for KU: WVU at home, Baylor away and OSU at Gallagher which has been a very unlucky place for KU. Most likely outcome: 5-2

Toughest games for Baylor: KU and WVU at home and ISU on the road. Most likely outcome 5-2

Toughest games for WVU: At KU and Baylor and KSU at home. Most likely outcome 5-2

Mason β€’ Feb 10, 2017 03:51 PM

@BeddieKU23

Absolutely. He is the poster boy for staying 4 years and improving every year by leaps and bounds. Interesting that just now we are starting to notice how good of a career he has really had. Up until this season, we knew he was very good but not this good. No doubt one of Coach Self"s better recruits if not the best.

"Blow-out" Quandary... β€’ Feb 10, 2017 03:24 AM

Here is an answer from the man himself at the press conference...

Q. About 75 percent of the games you've played this year have been decided by a single digit. Does it seem like everything is tighter this year for some reason?

BILL SELF: It is tighter. I think sometimes fans equate parity or closeness to not playing well, and that's not been the case at all. I think any win is a good win regardless of where you play. Look at Baylor-Oklahoma State last night. That was another great game that came down to the last possession.

Our (Big 12 Conference) record is 9-2, and I think we've been behind at least eight points in five of our wins, and behind double figures at least in four of our wins.

I don't think that in the past years when we've gone 14-4 or 15-3 or whatever, I don't think that you would have said that. (It's) Very competitive.

Q. Does overcoming the deficits tell you anything about your team's resilience?

BILL SELF: Maybe a little bit, but first-half deficits aren't the biggest thing in the world. It just makes your margin of error a little bit smaller, obviously, that you can't let 10 become 18. But I think our guys have showed some toughness. Last time I said we were a pretty tough team, we gave up 18 threes (to Iowa State), so I'm not going to give them that much credit at all, other than the fact that I do think that they showed stretches where they've been pretty tough.

2018 Kansas Jayhawks Football Recruiting β€’ Feb 10, 2017 02:01 AM

@jayballer54

I think KU recruits are solid and I don't believe we will lose any; however KU needs to pick up st least 15-20 additional players to complete the class. If KU can pick up more recruits that are at least 3 star then it should be a great class but that is a tall order. I imagine KU will pick up an assortment of players ranging from 3 star to non ranked. Regardless, this has the look of a solid recruiting class and a big step in the right direction for the program.

2018 Kansas Jayhawks Football Recruiting β€’ Feb 10, 2017 12:32 AM

@jayballer54

As @Kcmatt7 mentioned it is still early and once the big boys get done KU will probably drop some or a lot. Most programs will typically pick between 20 and 30 players per class so we are one third into the recruitment, it so happens that KU picked up some quality players early. When it is all done, I would be delighted if we are in the top 25.

Fran's remarks about LL β€’ Feb 10, 2017 12:22 AM

@KansasComet

I did an analysis of his playing time in a previous post and he probably played a total of 10 minutes per season and had maybe 10 point in his 4 years. Tyler could spot them 19 points in a game of 21 and still beat him. He would have done a lot better at a mid-major.

Mason β€’ Feb 09, 2017 10:10 PM

@kjayhawks

Yes they did. See my post above and the KU All-time leaders graph farther up.

Mason β€’ Feb 09, 2017 10:09 PM

@BeddieKU23

At the end of lasts season Mason had 389 assists, this year he has 122 and averaging just over 5 apg. There are 7 Conference games left, 1-3 Conference Tournament games and 1-6 NCAA games if KU goes all the way to the final That is a total 16 games left. If he averages the same 5 apg, that would add another 80 so he would end the season with around 200 assists.

Add the 200 to the previous 389 and he finishes his career right around 590 or close to 600. This would place him in 6th place between current #5 Valentine with 609 and #6 Tyshawn with 575. It is possible that he can overtake Valentine for 5th but doubtful he can catch #4 Hinrich with 668 since he would have to average over 9 apg the rest of the way and go all the way the NCAA Finals.

No question that passing Tyshawn is likely even with only an elite 8 or maybe even a sweet 16 run, passing Valentine is doable but all the right things need to happen and passing Hinrich is unlikely.

@mayjay

If he has the correct technique, repetitions will help; however, if he is using poor technique repetitions will not help. Many time when the technique is correct and still not shooting at least 70%, then the problem wold more likely be mental.

When the talk after a game is about the refs, it means it was a poorly officiated game.; when the game is properly officiated, nobody talks about the refs. Likewise, when Fran feels he must address the issue of "fans thinking he roots against KU," there must be some or a lot of truth to it, otherwise why would he do it?

Calipari Runs Away From A Kansas Extended Series β€’ Feb 09, 2017 01:21 AM

Here is one for what I don't have an answer. Wichita is supposed to host games in 2018. Now if UCLA is sent to the Mid West and needs to play in Wichita, will they be able to do it? Will the NCAA cave in and move UCLA to a different city and start a slippery slope from which there is no return? Once it starts where does it stop?

Like I said, leave politics out of sports.

Play Hard Chart β€’ Feb 09, 2017 01:10 AM

@mayjay

I will respectfully disagree. Yes Mason might have had a slow start but by the time he made the playing sub-par comment, there were about 8 minutes left in the game and Mason was playing great and KU was in control.

Now, I understand that an analyst shopuld not be a cheerleader, like Vitale is of all things ACC, but I don't expect him to be openly hostile to the team. Starting with the obvious petty put down of Mason as one of the Conference top PGs to the disparaging comments about KU fans while sucking up to ISU fans, frankly unwarranted and unnecessary. Even his compliments appear to be more of the left handed variety rather than authentic.

Like I mentioned above, I used to like Fran when he was an objective commentator, but now his bias against KU is as evident as his newly acquired love for ISU. I don't know what happened to him but the change in attitude is very obvious to those of us that have followed his commentary for years.

And for the record, I did not say that no KU fans like him, what I said was...I cant’ think of a single KU fan that likes him; obviously I did no think of you but of all the KU fans with whom I interact regularly outside this forum. It's all good, we agree to disagree on this one...and I still hope you get your new car, you do have a birthday comimg up anyway and lots of spousal capital. :smiley:

WOW β€’ Feb 08, 2017 07:09 PM

I don't know...there is always a Norfolk State or Bucknell or Florida Gulf Coast or other heavily under scouted teams that pulls surprises in March....who would have thought that Northern Iowa and Farook-whats-his-name would go crazy and beat overall #1 seed KU and #10 Saint Mary's would beat #2 Villanova in the same round? UCLA was trounced at home by Arizona and lost to a very pedestrian USC team that is ranked in the 40s.

Play Hard Chart β€’ Feb 08, 2017 06:55 PM

@BeddieKU23

I agree. ESPN has been very poorly managed and questionable decisions, such as the Longhorn Network, have been costly. Add a lot of people being fed up with the attitude of many athletes, particularly in the NFL have drive viewership down quite a bit.

As far as Fran, I don't understand what happened to him. He used to be a pretty decent commentator but now he as become a very biased one, something that you cannot do when you are in that position. I cant' think of a single KU fan that likes him and since KU is the 500 pound gorilla in the Conference, a reasonable person would think it would have a say on who calls the games...bu then we are talking Zenger...never mind...

Udoka's hand timeline? β€’ Feb 08, 2017 06:45 PM

@BeddieKU23

Tarc was top 5 player coming out of HS so there was a reason to think he was a OAD. Sometimes the HS game does not translate well to college and college game to the NBA or it takes longer to develop. We have seen very little of Doke so there is not much to go by. It is reasonable to think that after the next season he is gone but it is not unreasonable to think that he might sat longer. At this time he is a big question mark...

Udoka's hand timeline? β€’ Feb 08, 2017 06:32 PM

You are probably correct but you never know...Tarczewski was supposed to be a OAD at Arizona and ended up staying 4 years and he is not alone...just sayin'...
