Reality - and Gut - Check Time β€’ Jan 25, 2017 09:16 PM

I believe at the beginning of the season when we were trying to predict the conference, most if not all of us, thought that a win at WVU was highly unlikely. So we lost, no big deal we are still in control.

Talk about a misleading headline...fake news is the new norm...

The cynic in me thinks the NCAA has an agenda for doing this...I have not yet thought about it enough to figure out what it is...I just know the NCAA does not do this without a selfish reason.

WVU Game chat β€’ Jan 25, 2017 05:11 AM

@Crimsonorblue22

The game started with a phantom call on Mason and went down from there. Every time KU brought the ball up the court the guards were hand checked and bumped and nary a foul called. If the crew from the KU-Indiana game called this game WV has 4o by half time. We all have seen our share of badly called games, but this is one of the worse I have seen in a while.

By design, the pressure defense trades turnovers for fouls, when they do not get the turnover they usually get the foul. KU turned the ball over only 13 times, way below the WV average, and yet they ended up with more fouls...hard to explain....

I would think the probably saw something when they arrived. Note they are listed as witnesses and not suspects.

Read kusports β€’ Jan 25, 2017 04:37 AM

KU was playing at the Sprint Center at 6:05 so the game probably ended after 8. By the time they changed and did the presser it was probably 9:30ish, so if the team went straight back to Lawrence, it could possibly have arrived there around 10 pm. However, if the team went to eat add at least 1-2 hours so it would arrived in Lawrence close to midnight. The events in question apparently started aroun 10 PM.

I sure hope no athlete was involved; after the Bragg ordeal it would appear to be unlikely, or at least I hope it is. I will guess the building has high security with lots of video cameras and restricted access so it should not be too complicated to get the facts.

Duke is a dog β€’ Jan 24, 2017 07:27 PM

@wissox

"Know your enemy and know yourself and you will always be victorious." - Sun-tzu Chinese general & military strategist.

"Keep your friends close and enemies closer" - From Machiavelli "The Prince"

We have to keep track of Duke because is the enemy and we need to know what it is up to in case we have to play them again. Duke still has superior talent but has been hit by injuries more than any other team plus Grayson "Game Tripper" has been an ongoing distraction. Once Coach Rat Face comes back and the team is healthy, it will be a force to be reckoned with again.

Duke is a dog β€’ Jan 24, 2017 07:20 PM

@Bwag

I have posted before a list former Duke players that could be potential replacements for Coach Rat Face and Capel would not be at the top of the list. In his only Major conference gig at OU, he has a losing record. I believe his high ceiling is assistant coach but not head coach.

@jaybate-1.0

Nope. I don't care much for Takei and I posted that just for your benefit. His tweets during the las election cycle clearly demonstrated that, unlike the character he played in Star Trek, he had become a cartoon character with absolutely zero common sense or a logical though process...I will leave it at that.

@approxinfinity

Pomeroy has Gonzaga as #2 and Sagarin as #5. I will guess that 1 loss would drop them quite a bit. I will guess that the portion of the equation that looks at loses uses the number of loses as a multiplier that generates a deduction to the overall value, but, as long as that number is zero, that entire portion remains zero.

Nobody Knows You.... β€’ Jan 24, 2017 04:07 AM

@chriz

It's all smoke and mirrors. Smart never won a single regular conference title. The entire legend of Shaka is based on one lucky run in March that included the win over KU that was the icing on the cake.

@approxinfinity

I take it we are talking about the Massey rankings? I understand and agree; however, that ZERO in the loss column seems to make a big difference when it comes to Gonzaga; remember, Wichita State got the same love when they were undefeated. Look at UCLA and West Virginia fall quite a bit to #9 and #19 according to Massey; However, WVU is still #4 and UCLA #15 according to Pomeroy and still #2 and #15 according to Sagarin. I don't get it. UCLA loses to a good Arizona team that is 7-0 in the PAC 12, albeit at home, and drops like a rock, WVU loses at home to conference bottom feeder OU and on the road to KSU and still its pretty near the top. I believe Massey is much better than the other two.

KU Conference Stats through 7 games β€’ Jan 24, 2017 12:41 AM

@Kcmatt7

And it isn’t because the Big XII is so good and so competitive.

I disagree. When KSU comes to AFH and loses one by a whisker or OU can go to West Virginia and steal a game and then loose at home to ISU, yes, the Big 12 is a damn good conference, very competitive form top to bottom and ranked #1 by all the major rankings. Maybe if KU would be playing in the SEC it might be wingames by a larger margin. Having said that, I don't don't see any of the top teams in any of the other major conferences routinely winning games by 20 either.

With its budget KU should be able to outbid the other teams and make sure the checks to the refs clear before the game...Duke has the procedure down path and no one comes close. :smirk:

Cannon to Left/Cannon to Right/Cannon Behind β€’ Jan 23, 2017 07:45 PM

...as long as they are JDAMs. KU does not have the depth to carpet bomb and see what hits...precision guided missiles is what it needs

KU Conference Stats through 7 games β€’ Jan 23, 2017 07:40 PM

@BeddieKU23

I am seeing a lot of similarities between Devonte and Mario Chalmers. Both played off guard and had someone else be the primary ball handler. Mason for Devonte and RussRob for Mario. Both are good defenders with quick hands that can get steals. Both are relatively quick can shoot the 3 and both are undersized to play SG in the NBA and Devonte. much like Mario, will have to become a full time PG. If Devonte chooses to go through with the draft, at this time he would be a second round pick like Mario was although I believe Mario should have gone higher and maybe with a good second half of the season Devonte can move to the first round as well.

Spot on on Ball and Futz. Ball also has not only a very good support cast at UCLA but a very good coach as well; I was surprised on the loss to Arizona at home...both teams are loaded with future NBA talent.

Bill RE: Next Season β€’ Jan 23, 2017 05:59 PM

@BeddieKU23

The question is: does he have the frame to support more weight? Remember Manute Bol was 7'-7" but only 200 pounds and because of his very thin frame and bones, that was all the weight he could carry; any more than that would have resulted in serious injury to the joints or bones. Bragg was able to add 30 pound to his thin frame but I believe he is still having problems coming to terms with that weight; his weight says 240 pounds but his minds still thinks he is 210 pounds.
