Ah yes, the Big 12, where the unexpected is the expected. Even KU winning the Title this season was unexpected and now, well... expected.
I like this better,,,
We are complete zeroes..from here to here...
Any one still has any doubts about the strength of the conference? No question that on any given day any team can beat any other team. Hopefully the tough schedule and various styles of play will help conference teams in March.
Although It is not impossible, I just don't see KU losing at AFH. I said at the beginning of the season that 14-4 would likely win the conference and went as far a saying that it would not surprise me to see 12-6 teams share the title. I would have preferred to see KU win it with 15-3 record but it looks more and more like it will be 14-4 or 13-5.
The perp in question identified himself in a letter to the school paper.
Haven't made much progress. I think I will go get something to eat and then check posts on the handheld afterwards.
I was tied up all day negotiating a very important potential contract and just started to look at posts. I wold have stayed away anyway since the negative posts after loses is not something I enjoy reading. I will have to check KU Sports but I don't expect much from KSU alum Zenger.
The SEC has an automatic fine of $30K for storming the court. If the SEC has such a policy, shouldn't the Big 12 have an even stricter one?
Correction: @VailHawk has the correct fines below.
It is most definitively an intrastate rivalry; you would be surprised how many people west of Topeka are KSU fans, particularly in football.
It could be a more of a rivalry if KU would be better in football and KSU more consistent in basketball.
...and Embiid. You are absolutely correct.
Hold the ALT key and press on the numeric keyboard "0241' and you will end up with ñ...
...except his name is Nino not "Niño" which in Spanish means boy and it is used sometimes as nickname, as in Fernando "El Niño" Torrez, a famous Spanish soccer player that started his career very young and acquired that nickname because of his youthful looks, but is is not a proper first name. Nino is originally Italian and short for Antonino.
The nature of the Tournament is such that any team can beat any other team; lets not forget that even traditionally good teams such a Duke get "Mercerized" often enough; KU is not alone in that regard.
The Big 12 has several teams including KU, OU, ISU, WVU, Baylor and even Texas and OSU that with good match-ups can make a deep run. The key is to have the right match-ups.
I am not sure losing today will make his situation any worse but winning will definitely help.
He is. a PF and he is slated to replace Plumlee as the starting PF for the Nets. I am not sure why ESPN has him a SF when they are the ones reporting that Young will take Plumlee's place.
The number posted earlier were from the small books and the opening number really does not mean much anyway as it often changes quickly; the main sites opened at 5-1/2 and the consensus is not at 5 which seem reasonable.
Yes, it does remind you of the movie. I see the flocks of small black birds often enough so it is not uncommon; however the big hawk certainly was.
Sorry, not much of a bird watcher...small black birds???
If I recall correctly, NBA teams have to have a minimum number of players under contract and available. When a player is out injured and they don't have enough players, they usually sign someone to temporarily to fill-in and meet the League requirements, even when both parties know it is just a temporary thing. I will guess that picking up $40k-$50K for 10 days of doing not much is better than the alternative.
Yesterday I hear some tapping on the roof, when I went outside to look, there were several hundred birds on the roof (early migration???) and they all flew away after a while...maybe this is why the hawk showed up today...
Is this coincidence or an omen? I just went outside to take some deck measurements as I am helping a friend design hers...and as I went out to the deck a huge hawk flies out from the deck rail. I am not sure how big it was but I would estimate a wingspan of well over 3 feet...I don't usually see birds this big in this part of town. Hopefully a good sign.
Nicely done. Sometime you need the hammer but you also need to know how use it properly, which Nimitz did rather well. Nimitz was also one of the pioneers of submarine warfare and he directed the up fitting of diesels engines and eventually with Admiral Hyman Rickover they were the two key individuals in the development of the current nuclear fleet.
Enough history, back to sports.
Also you may want to check our original starting 5. (Traylor, Ellis, Greene, Selden, Mason). 2j 3so
I did not list the starting 5 for KU so I cannot really check that right? FWIW, against UK, KU's real fist game the starting five was Traylor, Ellis, Oubre, Selden, Mason, 2 Jr., 2 So, 1 FR...but more importantly and as I mentioned in my post about UK. KU played only 2 returning starters, Ellis and Selden; Black, Tharpe and Wiggins were the other 3. You can replace Greene for Oubre but Greene was a not a returning starter either.
Did you watch the TCU game? The TCU players were glued to our 3 point shooters, particularly Greene who I thought had grown a Siamese twin. Even the game announcers indicated that Grahams was the one KU player that could get himself free and create his own 3 point shot. KU tries to run sets for the 3 point shooters but the other teams have a say on how the plays develop and with Greene shooting only when he is wide open and unguarded, which tends to happen less and less, the 3 point opportunities have decrease as the conference schedule wears on. FWIW, KU has not run the classic/typical Self Hi-Lo for while now. KU is not passing inside, it is driving inside with a dish when available or a quick pass to the outside. Just my opinion.
Big 12 According to Pomeroy;
- 6 teams in the top 25 - 60%
- 7 teams in the top 30 - 70% (KU 11-3)
- 9 teams in the top 93 - 90%
Big 12 According to Sagarin:
- 6 teams in the top 25 - 60%
- 7 teams in the top 28 - 70% (KU 11-3)
- 9 teams in the top 81 - 90%
Other conferences as per Pomeroy (top team record)
- ACC - 5 teams in the top 30 - 33% (Virginia 13-1)
- Big - 10 4 teams in the top 30 -29% (Wisconsin 13-1)
- SEC - 2 teams in the top 30 - 14% (UK 14-0)
- PAC 12 - 2 teams in the top 30 - 17% (Arizona 12-2)
70% of the conference teams are ranked in the top 30....this means that fully 1/4 of the top 30 teams are Big 12 teams; this is frigging amazing. There is no question that from top to bottom the Big 12 is the strongest conference. The other conferences seem to have 1 or 2 dominant teams and then the quality drops.
Here is a question for you...if you have sub-par regular seasons and don't even win the conference, what are the chances of getting to the Final Four or winning the "big ring"?
Yes, I agree that the NCAA is structured so any team with a lucky run can win, but wouldn't you agree that a good regular season showing and a Conference Title gives you a much better shot at a Final Four and the Title than a sub-par season? It surely seems that way to me.
IMHO, "sub-par" season and "Final Four" is and oxymoron, wouldn't you agree?
As far as your question, No, I am not unhappy about the win; I will take an ugly win any day over the alternative...what is the alternative? A pretty loss? Thanks but no thanks.
Chris Huey, the student manager suited up because this was the game where he had the better chance of playing. Do you think the Texas or WVU games would have been better choices? I don't think so. Keep in mind that Huey is not part of the roster, he is a student manager that was given a special reward for his contribution, but Senior Day is reserved for players that were actually part of the roster. Nothing against Huey but he started playing ball in at St. Marys College in Leavenworth and had to quit because of health reasons (3 collapsed lungs), he is not a walk on and even at the top of his game he would have made the team at KU as a walk on.
There are no weak team in the Big 12. TCU, the team that you claim KU walk ons should be playing beat OSU...yes, that OSU that beat KU, and lost in OT on a controversial call at WVU...yes, that WVU that beat KU and also lost in OT to Baylor.
I understand that you are not happy with the way KU is playing and that is understandable but you post seems a little misdirected. BTW, the original starting 5 for UK are Stein and Poytress, both juniors, the twins, both sophomores and Towns a freshman; four of them returning starters; a little more experience than KU, wouldn't you agree?
Like Calipari in 2008?
Don't forget that Nimitz won all the big sea battles and the the overall sea campaign and was instrumental in winning WW II and was the US representative when Japan officially surrendered. Arguably, the brightest naval warfare mind of all time. Not a bad vision to have.
...and therein lies the question, does MU suck or blow? And the quintessential answer is that the are the "shop-vac" of the college basketball world...they suck and they blow. :)
I fully agree. At this time Greene has lot more upside than Cliff; however, his defense is still not up to par although it has improved quite a bit this season. In the NCAA when the game is close who do you want to have, Greene with and improved, albeit, not great defense and the scoring potential he brings or Cliff, who so far has been wildly inconsistent and other than a few highlights here and there has really not progressed as we all expected?
I would take my chance with Greene who, BTW, had 6 rebounds today.
Selden had only one TO as per score sheet; Mason had 4.
Interesting story ↗on TRob maybe joining the twins in Phoenix...
Remember the sign at the last game at AFH? Something along the lines of Good bye MU, now you are UK'S beotch!...The sign was wrong, they are the entire SEC's beotch!
Hiccup? Jayhawk hangover already? Congrats Slayer! Start saving for college.
Just saw on the screen...as per RPI SOS, MU is #4, probably because every team they play is so much better than they are. ROTFLMAO :) :) :)
As you know, that is a tall order... :)
Can't watch post game interviews. I still hate Zenger.
Perry 9-10 from the field for 23 points. I am curious about the spin to follow.
Ugly win, pretty win...a win is a win is a win...did I say is a win?
Can we breathe yet?
Maybe his son? Neeley was big guy, the announcer not so much...
They are trying to use up clock...
They seem to be a bad match up for KU
The clock is your friend...use it....
Mari is going to be sore tomorrow...
Tough bi-polar crowd...up one minute, down the next...just sayin'
3 KU players on the floor...foul on KU
