KU has played well on the road which is encouraging considering there are no more home games left and must win on the road to advance.
Hard to tell if Porter will play for MU. If he does it will be to improve his NBA stock but he might risk injury if he starts playing too soon.
With all the future money involved, he would be foolish to play; he will be a lottery pick regardless, unless NBA scouts have negative information about his injury that we don't know. Bracketology has MU playing KU in the second round...MU would love that.

@JayHawkFanToo 30-7? Come on man, we're not talking about football here.
30-7? Say what? I don't know what team that is. I am talking about the 2007-2008 team that went 37-3, won the Regular and Big 12 Conference Tournament titles..and yes, The NCAA Title as well...that team...
From a Shiver article ...
At the prompting of a member of our board, I decided to write an article and start a discussion about retired jerseys because, well, this is what we do in May and June – we talk basketball from the past when we aren’t talking basketball prospect for the future. According to the Kansas Basketball Media Guide:
“The concept of retiring the jerseys of outstanding Jayhawk men's basketball players was initiated prior to the 1991-92 season when banners honoring Clyde Lovellette, Danny Manning, B.H. Born, Charlie Black, Paul Endacott, Wilt Chamberlain and Charlie Black were unveiled in the south end of Allen Fieldhouse.
“The original criteria for a retired jersey included KU players named college basketball player of the year, most valuable player of the NCAA Tournament or being named a four-time All-American. The list was expanded in 1997 to include Ray Evans, who holds the distinction of being an All-American in both football and basketball.
“The criteria was expanded prior to the 2002-03 season to include consensus first-team All-Americans, two-time first-team All-America selections and Academic All-American of the Year.”
That basically lists the criteria that make someone an “automatic” selection to have his jersey raised to the rafters of Allen Fieldhouse. However, in 2009, Bill Self said, “There is really not a criteria other than the greatest players that play here deserve to be considered for that.” That means that the basketball office and the Athletic Department seem to think there might be other reasons, some perhaps purely emotional, for raising jerseys.
After the Italy trip I though that Garret might end up being the steal of the class.
You are assuming that I would automatically be in favor of the lower penalty which is not at all correct.
I would like to think that I would be a fair and conscientious juror that would look at all the facts and evidence presented and then make a decision, not before.
...or it could go like this during jury selection...
Prosecutor: Do you think you can be objective and render a fair verdict?
Me: Absolutely. I do believe in the system of justice and that everybody is presumed innocent until found guilty; however, if the prosecutors feel that he is guilty and are charging him with a crime or crimes, I have to believe he is guilty as sin.
Prosecutor: He is acceptably to us.
Defense attorney: Say what? HE IS NOT acceptable to us and ask he be dismissed.
Judge: Thank you Mr. JayHawkFanToo, you are dismissed.
And on that note, leaving the jury room and this thread.
Garret has a poker face and is all business on the court. Also, his offense is starting to come around and that dunk he had was a thing of beauty.
I am with you. I did not see anything on the videos that tells me there is an issue. None of the players hugged Hudy, only had high/low fives while running all excited. Svi and Vick walked in long afterwards a lot more calmed and both had almost identical reactions to Hudy.
Maybe Vick is just shy and introverted and is not partial to PDAs? I know a lot of people that are that way. Perhaps we are seeing more than there really is?
Short answer, yes, all of the above particularly Conference TV money.
Timing is every thing. This is why political stories that interested parties want buried are released on Friday so nobody reads or remembers them by Monday. Likewise, salacious sport stories are released on Friday so they will be all over the weekend sports shows.
Good catch...I did have him on my original post...
"You also forgot Charlie Moore who will be a college Junior with one year of good play in a major conference and another year in the KU program."
Not nearly as dominating last year or with elite players. Very good team though and well coached. I like Mark Few, he runs a really good and clean program.
Probably not nearly as much as KU has made from other conference teams winning in football.
It would be interesting to see a rundown of both sports. I know that the KU football program generates more money than the basketball program...weird, isn't it? Football really drives the train in college sports.
The WCC is way too weak for Gonzaga to have multiple good wins. The only other decent teams is Saint Mary's who has beaten Gonzaga. The third teams is BYU with an 11-7 conference record and 22-9 overall.
Gonzaga should do what Notre Dame did, join the PAC 12 in basketball only since they don't have a football team.
TTU learned the hard way what it is like to be at the top and have a bull's eye on your back with all teams gunning for you. KU is used to it, in fact it seems to thrive in it.
It is possible that the family could prevail in a civil suit since the level of proof is considerably lower.
I seriously doubt the Feds or even the State would want to be involved in what appears to be a local issue with no federal or state only laws broken or a hate crime involved.
Me too.
Loses at the beginning of the season tend to count more because teams are still trying to iron out details. Even the Computer rankings indicate that the results get better with more games until they reach what in statistics is called steady state where wins and lose do not have nearly as much effect.
At this point, the stage is pretty much set with only minor changes coming as a result of conference tournaments which in many conferences means an automatic qualification. Should ISU or OSU win the Big 12 Tournament, it would be the official conference representative and likely one of the bottom teams falls off.
If we are looking at the conference as a whole, it would be best for teams in the bubble , KSU, or teams in the Last Four In, Texas and Baylor, to win a game or two to strengthen their places and not fall off...more teams, more money to the conference.
Michigan has already won the regular season tile in the Big 10 with no games left which leaves Purdue out. A loss in the tournament and MSU is also out as a #1 seed.
Michigan State is a good team but one that is unproven. It lost to Duke and a decent but not that good Michigan team and it best win is over UNC, a team that has been up and down but one the polls seem to love. The majority of wins are over Big Ten team which is as weak as the conference has ever been. The current Bracketology has the conference sending 4 of 14 teams to the NCAA Tournament or 29% as compared with the ACC with 9 of 15 or 60%, SEC 8 of 14 or 57%, Big East 6 of 10 or 60% and Big 12 that right now has 8 out 10 teams or an all time record of 80%. Only the pathetic PAC 10 with 3 of 12 or 25% is lower.
Like I said, we do not have all the facts and I am not taking one side or the other because, in my opinion, we do not have enough information to conclusively and beyond any reasonable doubt, which is the criteria for a criminal conviction, determine one way or another.
Perhaps this definition fits the incident better:
Involuntary Manslaughter
Involuntary manslaughter is the unlawful killing of another human being without intent. The absence of the intent element is the essential difference between voluntary and involuntary manslaughter. Also in most states, involuntary manslaughter does not result from a heat of passion but from an improper use of reasonable care or skill while in the commission of a lawful act or while in the commission of an unlawful act not amounting to a felony.
My post was in relation to this incident and this incident only and you have widened it to include larger societal and politically/ideologically charged issues and I choose not to engage in a political discussion in this forum. I probably posted too much in the NCAA/FBI thread but at least it was sports/KU related; this discussion is not.
Great minds think alike...or share time in the gutter.

@Kcmatt7 He's worth a shot. Gotta be able to run when the oline isn't great.
Yep, run for his life.
I see lawyers in the near future, lots and lots of lawyers...
Born in Missouri, went to Wichita South high school and attended KU.
Well...KU had some really good teams including a great one 10 years ago and as far as I know, KU is still in the Big 12.
Oubre is still the 6th man but he is playing and delivering starter minutes. He is still flying under the radar and carving himself a nice career.

@betterfireE Vick has packed his bags imo.
In that case, he better get his passport up to date as well.
Yes, plus conference tournaments, so more like 5-6?
In relation to the tweets, frankly I don't know which one is worse a HS posting them or a older man. In either case shows an absolute lack of a moral compass and a compete lack of respect for women.
Also, it has been pointed out that he selfishly plays way off the offensive player just so he can have the chance of an interception but concedes a lot of yards in the process.
Keep in mind that it is not just his stance during the anthem, his constant sideline tantrums are unsportsmanlike and not conductive to team chemistry.
Saying the trade is only because the anthem issue is disingenuous at best.
I will be close. Xavier has a 1 game lead and the last two games are against Providence and at De Paul, both bottom half teams that it should win. Villanova plays at Seton Hall and Georgetown; the Seton Hall game on the road will be tough and a loss would place 2 games behind Xavier.
Regular season titles tend to count more but Villanova has two convincing wins over Xavier. It will be close but I would like to see Villanova's 6 title streak come to an end.
Whichever team wins the conference gets the #1 seed; Xavier has the easier path.
Way too much basketball to be played and way too early to predict the brackets. Lunardi's Bracketology is click bait and big business for ESPN; he even teaches a class in Bracketology at some East Coast University.
...but,..the NBA already has a development League, it is called the G League.
The NBA had several big time busts when players could go directly from HS to the NBA so it changed the rules so prospects now have to go to college for one year where they are observed by teams' scouts...for free. A sweet deal for the NBA, a sweet deal for prospects and a lousy deal for colleges if you ask me.

@Kcmatt7 We definitely need much better olinemen.
We need pretty much, much better everything.
What others above said. Also, Villanova play much tougher competition than Saint Mary's.
Football is a business. Peters is bad for business, really, really bad. Easy decision.
From your lips to God's ears...or should I say from your keyboard to the refs ears?
Breaking news...A NCAA decision on Apple's eligibility is coming any time now...

@JayHawkFanToo The streak will actually be broken next year. :joy:
I see what you did there. However, I said as long as KU stops winning and the other team stops losing; neither is likely.
My friend, from whom I used to get KU basketball tickets, was a Williams fund donor and had court side season tickets (4th row behind the KU bench) and he would get all of his tickets before the beginning of the season. Maybe things have changed but it makes sense that they would have printed the tickets before Preston bolted and the Texas game would have been a good one since he played there before Oak Hill Academy, how else would you explain Preston being on the ticket when even his bio has been removed from the KU website?...but I could be wrong
Simien has a son that is about 8 and Moody married in 2007 and has 3 sons with oldest being likely around 9 or 10? This is as much info as I could find on some of the payers from the earlier teams.
I am not sure we will ever see a season when a team goes undefeated anymore, way too much parity and quality players all over for that to happen. Even the best team money can buy could not do it at UK.
Looks like Seth Greenberg is doubling down ↗ on a losing cause...
That would be the first time Squeaky has not lost players in the off-season. :smiley_cat:
Lots of freeware available that will reduce the resolution of the video to a size suitable for posting; I have done this for gif files before.
Tickets are printed before the beginning of the season; season ticket holders get tickets for all the home games before the season starts.
College game day tends to go where the good matchups are and the Big 12 has had some of the better ones...and a lot more entertaining than watching Virginia and its low scoring snooze feasts. Who wants to watch a game where the half time score is 30-7?

@JayHawkFanToo you sure have a lot of friends in many different areas. Amazing!
What am I missing? Why is that amazing? I would say it is normal.
Read my post...better yet, read YOUR own post where you quoted me. I was referring to lawyers and NOT all personnel. 35,000 is the total number of FBI employees of which a very small number are lawyers.
“Be thankful we're not getting all the government we're paying for.” - Will Rogers.
I understand the red shirt players and backups have already beaten the starters in practice so we know they are capable players with one year of no pressure practice learning the system.
We did not think a single player could replace Frank Mason either and yet Devonté has done a heck of a good job and peaking at the right time. If you don’t think freshmen can play look at the top 3 POY candidates, Ayton, Bagley and Young...all 3 of them freshmen.
I am on record as saying I don’t think Newman comes back and I still think this is the case but it is more likely that Vick and Doke come back and if this happens look at the front line of Doke, Dedrick, De Sousa, K.J., Lightfoot and McCormack and a back court/wings of Dotson, Grimes, Garret, Vick, Ochai and Cunliffe can you think of any other team with that depth? Certainly not in the Conference. The only other conference team that will be improved next season is ISU. TTU loses 6 senior that played at least 20 mpg including candidate POY Evans. WVU loses Carter, Miles and probably Konate and neither team has anything close coming in to replace them. Texas and Baylor will continue to be what they are and squander talent. OU will lose a Young and will drop, KSU, OSU and TCU will stay basically the same or not as good.
In short, the Conference will not be as good as it is this seasonbut KU will be much improved, ergo an easier path to the title than this season.
