I said before and I will say it again, Garret can play PG and he will be the steal of this class. 😺
College basketball is now a crap shoot. Several players were held out because of possible impermissible benefits and we probably have not seen the end of it. Impossible to tell how the conferences will end up seeing how poorly teams like UK, Indiana, ISU and other played on opening night.
If KU and UK play like they did in the first half of their respective games, KU wins by a bunch. Likely it will be somewhere in between and KU wins comfortably.
Coach Self just confirmed it.🙄
Archie Miller is a very good coach but inherited a team in disarray. He will get IU going.
Yes, after the first news about the FBI investigation and results are starting to come out.
The NCAA directed all Division I programs to do an internal review...chips starting to fall...
Devonte should fill in reasonably well. I have seen his name in various lists as a POY candidate.
Not much effective height. The two tallest players they have, Hamilton and Mekowulu both at 6'-9", combined for 38 minutes under 12 points and under 8 rebounds per game last season; pretty pedestrian numbers. Their top two scores last season, McCall and Martin where seniors and both very good but they are gone. They finished last season 17-13 and 8-8 in conference, not exactly world beaters.
So sorry about your loss. We all have a biological father and the man that raised us, one is just that, your biological father but the other one is your dad and they are not always the same person. Sound like you lost your dad, a huge loss any way you see it.
My point was that Lucas makes a convenient target but, if the other players shot at a decent clip, Lucas does not have nearly enough problems inside particularly on offense.
BTW, KU has not had a dominant center since the Embiid in '13-14' and Embiid was injured and Black filled in well but he was really a forward and not a Center. The last conference level Center KU had was Withey in '12-'13.
If KU shooters had a day even close to their shooting average, KU wins by double digits. Look at the numbers, worst shooting game of the season. KU shot 35.0% from the field compared to the season average of 48.0% and 20.0% from 3 (5-25) compared to 40.4% for the season; had they shot their average that is another 15 points. In comparison, they shot 54.8% and 53.6% against Purdue in the previous game. Assist and steals were also well below average, all in all poor play by the smalls had a lot more to do with the loss than Lucas.
He would have 3-1/2 season of eligibility total (as he would forfeit the current first semester half) he would use the one half the second semester this season and have 3 years left after this season. He would only lose the current half season until he is eligible to play the second semester. Makes sense?
If he does not play this season he would have 4 full season of eligibility.
Silvio would lose only the current one half season of eligibility and would have 3 and one half years available. Having said that, I don't believe Silvio will stay here that long so it really is a moot point.
For a change we can go into the season not having to worry about the next class and wondering what rabbit Coach Self will need to pull out of a hat. I can get used to it.🍻
I can really appreciate your condition. I take care of my dad that now has advanced dementia and my mom had early onset dementia when she passed away so I see it as a likely condition for me in the future and I can already see early signs. My prayers are with you my friend.
Five mo' fouls...
The bigs situation just got much better.
The knock on Coach Self is that his system is so complicated that veteran players have a distinct advantage that only extremely talented players like Wiggins, Jackson, Oubre, Embiid can overcome....unless the cupboard is bare which does happen but not often at KU
On the other hand, rosters might be full and scholarships not available. Having said that, I will guess that programs would find a way to get him a schoolie.
Here is a link ↗ to the stats for Perry's team...
I remember a few years back when the conference schools would have red out, black out, white out, purple out and so on when they played KU. Did not help then and special promotions will not help now either.
KU already has a very good class even if no one else is signed, everyone else at this time is icing on the cake. If Grimes waits it might actually open the door for Langford and/or Williamson.
Clemson, South Carolina, Duke and UNC are all within 1-3 hours drive form his home so, if proximity to home is important, these 4 schools would have an advantage. Duke and UNC are blue blood programs and Clemson and South Carolina are the top basketball school in the state, again a big advantage if he wants to stay in-state.
I am inclined to think that Zion would start or get significant playing time anywhere he goes so playing time might not be as big of a deal.
I remember what you said about Perry, he had the technique down path but could not finish and then at the ISU game everything came together and he was gold from then on.
...which goes to show that number alone don't tell the whole story.
I mentioned before that Garret might well end up being the steal of this class and I think I am starting to see it more so now...but then, I though Lightfoot would be the breakout player last season.
If you don’t mind me asking, which Sling package do you have?
Yep. I saw that Sling Orange now carries ESPN3, but it does not carry any of the Fox Sports channels which are on Sling Blue; only 1 stream allowed on orange, more if you get both packages. You have to get one of the more expensive packages from Direct TV Live to get ESPN3. YouTube TV looks good although I am not sure it carries ESPN3 and I have yet to get an answer from them, it does allow 6 accounts and 3 streams but you have to use Chromecast that requires you to use your phone or tablet or laptop instead of a remote which I don’t really care for; it is also missing TNT and TBS that carry a lot of the NCAA games. Not really an optimal solution yet but heading in the right direction.
I installed and outdoor antenna today and I am feeding the signal through the existing cable wiring to 8 TV set and getting 50+ stations on the sets closer to the antenna and 30+ on the ones farther away and behind several splitters. I will add a pre-amp and it should give me 50+ channels on all sets. The only thing I miss so far is the ability to record some channel while watching another, other than that I have not missed cable much yet.
Consolidated was pretty crappy when I talked to them, they would not consider any deals and actually wanted to raise my rates even after I told them I would cut cable. Customer support did not seem to have the authority to make any deals and did not seem to care much anyway; a far cry from the original Everest which had an outstanding customer support department.
I saw the 0-7 line from the 3 and hence my caveat that IF he made 2 or 3 as per his last seasons average he ends up with a line of 18 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists an 3 steals, a very good line any way you look at it.
Unfortunately I could not watch the game. I cut cable and I cannot get ESPN3 and most of the streaming providers do not seem to have ESPN3 either.
Anyway, Svi had 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals; had he made 2 or 3 of his 7 3-point tries (made 4-6 from inside the arc) we would be saying he had a nice game...going strictly by the numbers. His 8 rebounds (7 DR) are just 1 less than Doke and more than anyone else in the team. Take the 8 assists by Graham and Svi has more assists than the rest of the team combined, his 3 steals are tops on the team tied with Garret and as many as the rest of the team combined. He must have been playing some defense to get those defensive rebounds and steals and involved in offense to have 5 assists. Yes, his shooting from the 3 was way off but other aspects of his game do not seem that bad, at least looking at just the numbers and we know his outside shooting will be better in the future.
Not looking good ↗ for Colin Sexton or Alabama.
Svi had 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals so he did a few things well to compensate for his poor shooting.
I though they had already remove his back spine...
I guess the Ball merchandise is not selling?
Pretty embarrassing situation for UCLA and by extension our country since they are there representing American College basketball.
You are correct. An ongoing series would not be nearly as appealing as a one of a kind game. The last few years it would have been one sided games and MU would not have sold out its own arena and might have actually begged out of the series, much like WSU did many moon ago.
I was simply pointing out that there are other teams that would sellout as fast as MU but not that many; WSU would and so would several of the blue bloods but I am not sure they would want to play KU there. KU sells out AFH every time but not necessarily the Sprint Center. KU played the Canadian National Team a couple of years back at the Sprint Center and the place was not close to being sold out; the entire upper section was closed since those seats were not sold. Last season's game against UAB drew only 10,000 and the next day against Georgia only 12,000, later in December the game against Davidson (remember 2008?) drew a over 17,000 but it still was not sold out.
Keep in mind that when KU plays regular games at the Sprint Center, it makes considerably less money than playing at AFH. Coach Self has indicated that he likes to play a couple of games a year there, just for the KC area fans but he prefers playing in Lawrence in front of the local crowd and with a much larger financial benefit.
If you heard Coach Self, KU might play MU as part of the Big 12-SEC series or at the NCAA but not as a regular series.
KU could have played WSU at the Sprint Center and WSU would have sold out its ticket allowance faster than MU. Unless you are familiar with today's Wichita or have friends there, you really cannot comprehend the enthusiasms of the current WSU fan base. Wichita is basketball crazy about the Shockers and it bought them an invite to a bigger conference, even when they do not even have a football program. Marshall is one of the top 6-7 top paid coaches.
Shouldn’t we wait and see if MU actually makes it to the dance first?
5 Duke players and 3 KU players. I understand many analyst that vote in these polls will not include freshmen since nobody knows how well (or poorly) they will play in college.
Nah...that is his day time job. ESPN just does not care for things that are not East or West Coast or...never mind.
Wasn't UNC playing a Jamboree against 3 teams with each game being 13 or 14 minutes long? Which team did it lose to?
This is what happens when you access the forum at 3 AM.
I just quickly perused the story, give me a hint, what part did ESPN get wrong?
All that nonsense and still could not refute that in America football is still king. I don’t watch football that much and even less so now, but it is silly to argue that football is not the number one sport in our country, whether you like it or not.
Is social security politics? It affects every one of us regardless of political affiliation, right?
...and so is soccer in the rest of the world but in this country football is still king. Funny thing is that football might not die because of the obvious medical risk but by the actions of the millionaire football players that feel they can antagonize the fan base with impunity and in the process kill the proverbial goose that laid the golden eggs.
Sometimes good things are the unexpected result of unlikely events. Capone went to jail, not for all the murders and other major crimes he committed, but for tax evasion. Likewise, football might come to an end, not because of the medical damage resulting from the brutality of the sport, but for the chutzpah of the players that make millions and who fail to realize that without football a fair number of them would be minimum wage workers.
Many reasonable people feel that boxing is an anachronism in today’s world and has no place in an evolved society and yet, we have come up with an even more violent form of the sport in the form of Mixed Martial Arts or Ultimate fighting. One has to wonder if we, as a society, have evolved or regressed.
...and this does not even include the 3 quality transfers who will also be able to play and were all 4 stars, Dedrick #37, KJ #54 and Moore #55 and who compared to newcomers Dedrick would certainly be a 5 star and the others pretty close to it. Monster class when all incoming players are considered.
While the Fed has a private component insofar as banks are stockholders in the a Regional banks they have no decision making ability and the Fed is primarily a Federal instrument with members of the Board of Governors being nominated by the President and confirmed by Congress. It does have independence insofar as its decisions do not require presidential approval. By the way, the Fed does not print money, the Treasury Department does. Enough of that...who really cares...
Social Secutity is in real trouble and not just because of the money the federal government borrowed from the trust but primarily because the model is unsustainable. The system was created with the premise that most individuals lived into their 70s and the younger base kept growing, basically what we call a Ponzi scheme. People now live well into their 80s and the contributing base has grown considerably slower than anticipated and a good portion of the population growth is now due to illegal immigration that does not contribute to the fund and who after granted amnesty, which has happened before and will happen again, will be able to collect large sums after having contributed very little. Bob Dole led a restructuration of the system that extended its viability to what at the time they though it would be 2050, but we know now it will became insolvent much sooner. Unless a large change is made, people like me that are close to retirement will probably be OK, but our kids will not. As you know, retirement age is now 66 or one year later than the original 65, but considering how much longer people live, the age needs to be raised periodically and right now it should be close to 70; I and other saw this a long, long time ago and I have been advocating changes for the last 30 years...it is basic math.
More importantly, what does all of this have to do with KU basketball? I wish we could get back to talking KU basketball and leave other issues for other board not called KU Buckets. Just my opinion, of course, and much like private banks and the Fed, while I am a member of this forum, I have no decision making capability whatsoever.
I am watching the OU-OSU game and it is a no holds barred shoot out. If they keep up the pace in the second half, they will break all kinds of records. Not much defense but fun game to watch.
