Is it coaching? • Nov 15, 2017 09:54 AM

@HawkChamp

Doke does not yet know how to get himself open to receive a pass and he was also well guarded: once he learns to get into better position and the guards get more familiar with him it will get better.

Now, how missing wide open shots translates to poor coaching? I fact it is quite the opposite, good coaching got them them the wide open shots but the players failed to make the shot.

@HighEliteMajor

The conference is 15-3 so far with 2 of the losses by ISU and 1 by WVU. The ACC is 24-9 so technically the Big 12 has a better winning percentage.

With Duke Vitale doing commentary, only factoids about Duke and UNC were allowed.

KU will likely get Grimes and if it adds Langford and/or Williamson along with the 3 red shirt players, it might end up as one of the top classes of all time. Not too shabby for “not on the coasts but snack in the middle of flyover country” Kansas.

De Sousa is starting to look now more like a must than a want...

That was way too close for comfort. The one positive is that KU can shoot poorly and still beat a quality opponent, this will not happen every time so the team better not get too cocky because next time it might not be so lucky.

Embiid and the Sixers • Nov 15, 2017 04:36 AM

@wissox

Agreed. The act is wearing thin, let your game do the talking.

Newman has got to stop driving 1 on 3...

@DCHawker

They have had wide open looks and have not converted and now there is no rebounding.

KU shooting 34.2% from the field and 26.7% from 3. Amazing tha KU is ahead shooting this poorly; had the shot close to their average and is a double digit game.

@kjayhawks

$35, a real good deal

Champions Classic Other Game • Nov 15, 2017 02:24 AM

@mayjay

Allen and Duval kept Duke in the game. Tight game until the very end.

Alexander, Diallo...Preston? • Nov 15, 2017 02:19 AM

@jaybate-1.0

Both were players with high athletic ability but with very low basketball IQ. They can dominate in HS but Division I is a different beast with most players being superior athletes.

@kjayhawks

So far so good but YouTube TV has a lot more sports channels, recorder with unlimited storage and allows 3 simultaneous streams; if not for the lack of support for Roku it would be a no brainer.

Duke just got away with a flagrant; I guess the check to the refs cleared.🤑

@Blown

Doing fine. I cut the cable and not miss it at all. I signed up for Sling and giving it a try, I will try YouTube TV next that appears to be a better deal but you need Chromecast that does not have a remote and you have to use your cell phone, a tablet or computer to control it, I like Roku better but not yet supported on YouTube TV, hopefully soon.

@Blown

Sign for a 1 week free trial on Sling and you will be able to watch ESPN o your computer.

@BShark

Nothing good has come from having that car so far; second game he will miss because of it. Now KU is REALLY thin inside with Doke and Lightfoot.

Beaty looks like a text book example of the Peter’s Principle. He moved up and was a very good position coach but on his last promotion to Head Coach he reached his level of incompetence.

Didn’t Medcalf pick Texas to win the Conference last season? Dude is clueless.

New Kansas Poll About Rivalries • Nov 14, 2017 07:34 PM

@drgnslayr

In the 70s, the Missouri side had a much larger percentage of the population of the area so the MU fan base share was larger. Since then , most of the growth has been in the Kansas side and while some parts of the Missouri side, like Lee’s Summit have been growing fast, the bigger growth is still in the Kansas side, particularly Johnson County, although the Speedway and the Legends have given Wyandotte County and KCK a huge boost.

@mayjay

Old habit are hard to break for us old timers.

On to Kentucky • Nov 14, 2017 07:13 PM

@jayballer54

What they are saying is not necessarily incorrect. UK is now probably at 50%-60% of their potential ceiling while KU is probably closer to 75%-80%. At the end of the season this game would be much closer.

Langford • Nov 14, 2017 10:24 AM

Garland Picks Vanderbilt, does it change Langford's choice?

On to Kentucky • Nov 14, 2017 10:13 AM

@Lulufulu

Except for the one year when it missed the NCAA and lost to Bobby M0, the system has worked very well for UK, lots of deep runs in the Tournament and one Title.

@KUSTEVE Not Cat Stevens?

He is Yusuf Islam now...

Apparently Shaka went to watch Grimes play while Coach Self was in town. Interesting, Shaka trying to beat Coach Self off the court since he has been unable to do it on the the court since THAT game...

New Kansas Poll About Rivalries • Nov 14, 2017 09:27 AM

@drgnslayr

The largest concentration of KU alumni is in the KC Metro area and a fair number of them live in the Missouri side, so naturally the entire Metro are is heavily pro KU. interestingly enough, the second largest fan base in the Metro area is KSU and then MU.

This could be a very good week for KU fans...:smiley:

On to Kentucky • Nov 13, 2017 04:11 PM

@HighEliteMajor

Yes, they have a lot of talent but they are very young and very raw. If they develop to expectations, they will get much better but right now they do noy look that good and I believe KU should win going away. If the two close wins against inferior but experienced talent are an indication, this might be the year that inexperience really bites the squid in the rear end.

On to Kentucky • Nov 13, 2017 05:15 AM

@HawkChamp

Lightfoot was 2-2 from 3 point range last game, just sayin’...😉

On to Kentucky • Nov 13, 2017 01:01 AM

UK has size but it is very inexperienced with only one junior, who does not play much, and no seniors. They do have raw talent and no doubt they will get much better as the season progresses but right now they are not that good. Vermont came back from 12 points down at the half to pull within 3 and had a chance to tie the game and send it to overtime but they missed twice.

New Kansas Poll About Rivalries • Nov 13, 2017 12:51 AM

@Texas-Hawk-10

My point is that fans from a state tend to root for the other state (or conference) teams when playing teams from out of state (or conference) at the NCAA, I know I do and so do most people I know with a few exceptions. Let say UCLA is #1 and KU is #2 and they play in Wichita (not necessarily a KU stronghold), who do you think the audience would support? My guess is that it would be overwhelmingly for KU.

KC is a very rare town where an out of state team has the bigger fan base than the state teams. The huge growth of the Kansas side and proximity to KC has a lot to do with it. In 10-15 years the metro population will be roughly equal on both sides of the state line.

New Kansas Poll About Rivalries • Nov 12, 2017 07:28 PM

@justanotherfan

They did take away games from North Carolina although now they seem to be back in good graces.

New Kansas Poll About Rivalries • Nov 12, 2017 07:24 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10

Yes, but...San Jose is in California while St Louis is in Missouri. Yes, it is a little closer but St. Louis is by no means a KU town like KC is.

On the other hand, how many time have UNC and Duke played in North Carolina? I would say a lot.

New Kansas Poll About Rivalries • Nov 12, 2017 06:51 PM

Here is the $64K question...what if the NCAA assigns a California Public school to play in Wichita, would it forfeit the game? Having said that and considering how the East and West coasts are catered, there is no chance the NCAA would ever do this. Remember that the higher seed KU had to play UCLA in its own backyard.😡

@justanotherfan

Isn’t Wichita hosting NCAA games in 2018?

Texas Shorthorns • Nov 12, 2017 08:00 AM

@Texas-Hawk-10

Interceptions were real killers. KU just does not have a Big 12 conference caliber QB.

On to Kentucky • Nov 12, 2017 05:23 AM

@HawkChamp

I wish Preston would have played Friday to get experience but I understand why he did not and agree he should have not.

On to Kentucky • Nov 12, 2017 05:06 AM

@HawkChamp

KU really does not have floater shooters, long range bombers neutralize height inside.

On to Kentucky • Nov 12, 2017 04:45 AM

UK will not know what KU team to expect. As soon as they start to figure it out KU switches from small to big or vice versa and UK’s lack of experience gets exposed. KU by double digits.

Texas Shorthorns • Nov 12, 2017 04:38 AM

Can’t spot that many point in the first quarter alone and expect to win games. Texas won the first quarter big, KU won the rest of the game but too many points to make up.

4 OUT Small Ball • Nov 12, 2017 04:30 AM

A few random thoughts...

@HighEliteMajor emojis can at times be quite subjective and depend on the mood of the writer at the time. The cat can be seen as Garret being the cat’s meow or the cat that ate the canary and is very pleased with himself.

What is the deal with these new hairdos? I just don’t get it, but then many people did not get the long hair in the 60s and 70s either.

Talking about looks...Devonté does not look like a baby anymore and Vick looks so much older, he has an NBA-ready face now.

Newman is indeed an enigma. Not enough handles to be a PG and perhaps not enough height or shooting touch to be a SG, can we call him a tweener guard? No doubt he is talented but right now he seems to be talent looking for a role?

In case some of you did not know, Preston was late for curfew and had to park his car in an illegal zone and the be next day he had to go and move it and in the process missed a class. He now knows that two wrongs don’t make a righ; in reality, the second call attention and makes the first look even worse.

If KU and UK play their game the way both teams played the first half Friday, KU wins going away and the squid cries like a little girl...just an expression @Crimsonorblue22, no offense to women or little girls intended. 😊

4 OUT Small Ball • Nov 12, 2017 04:02 AM

@Hawk8086

Vick is not really a PG so Newman would be the logical replacement. Having said a that, Garret was the Texas Gatorade POY as PG and I will guess that as the season progresses, he will become the backup PG.
