Am I reading this right?

"We are basically ending harsh penalties that punish today's players from past school affairs. No more long, drawn-out investigations. This will become law after we stretch out the Kansas decision and then penalize the f out of them!"

I think we'll see a suspension for Kurt and Bill, but not much else. I'd be surprised if the ban was longer than 10 games.

@Jethro Prove to me how this statement goes against Vitale's long held beliefs that current players shouldn't be penalized by the NCAA for the crimes of previous players no longer involved in the program?

Mayjay cleared it up. Vitale didn't mention Kansas. I read the Vitale Wants Charges against KU dropped headline without pursing the article close enough. Vitale was talking in general about all teams, not KU. No 180. And I was informed elsewhere that ESPN didn't run the Bill/Townsend story because in the big scope of things we're down on the ESPN pecking order. That's 2 losses for my theory. So, I engaged in wishful thinking about a case that has been lingering like a disease over our heads for 5 years- I wanted it to be true, even though it wasn't...lol.

Interesting that ESPN never covered the Self/Townsend stay at home during recruiting story. More interesting is Dick Vitale commenting that all charges should be dropped: https://247sports.com/Article/Kansas-basketball-violations-NCAA-should-drop-Jayhawks-recruiting-case-Dick-Vitale-says-190507204/. ↗

So, why is ESPN suddenly on our side? Two years ago, Vitale was smearing us. Hmmm...

I'd hope he would stick around for a couple of seasons though because OADs aren't the best ticket to a NC.

My question... does he play well with others? Team player? I think we've all come to learn a huge lesson from Och. That kid was 100% team player and totally supported his teammates... and without that attitude, no way we win it all!

That little mid range jumper reminds me of McCullar.

I would tend to agree with this. I am surprised we are even giving an inch at this point.

I guess we'll see, at some point, maybe? Historically programs that have self-imposed penalties don't get brownie points with the NCAA

My gut reaction is this is part of a settlement. It wouldn't surprise me a bit if the penalties are very minor. We pushed back so hard, I'm thinking the NCAA just wants to be done with it. I'll put the wishful thinking cap on, and hope for the best.

Well guys BIG rumors now to keep an eye out for the 1st week of August, Coming of Utah site and podcast talking about Colorado and Arizona looking to join or apply for acceptance by the first week of August some time.

Reports are saying Washington &Oregon like holding the Pac 12 hostage saying they want un equal shares to remain in the Pac 21. Had been some rumor that the ACC had reached out and was trying to get Washington & Oregon but guess that was not solid Also talking about reaching out to Stanford. .Saying now that Oregon & Washington say if they don't get un-equal shares they are entertaining the Big 12.

Word is an I quote " Colorado is pissed about this un-equal shares idea "

Talk also is ESPN trying to get an agreement with the pac 12 for modest amount as ESPN doesn't want to lose that late slot. - Fox HAS NO INTEREST in the PAC 12 a they are all over the SEC. .. Guess CBS wants the Big 12 as they are losing the SEC at the end of this year and want to work with the Big 12 and then have a prime time game with the Big 12 in the middle of the week like Wedns or Thursday Night.

Also talk like the Big 12 might just want TWO teams from the Pac 12 which would be Colorado & Arizona saying if they were to add FOUR teams it would cut their profits a little as where with two teams their profits actually would increase a little.. - -Who knows, but just to much smoke for nothing, Smoke coming from all directions.

That's what I've been reading, too. Az and Colorado, come on down!

Big 12 Expansion • Jul 20, 2022 02:12 AM

I could see Colorado and Arizona jump. I thought Utah and Az State had stated publicly they were staying in the Pac 12. Maybe that changes if Az and Colo come aboard.

The dad that just passed away played on a team I helped coach, we took them to Vegas to play. He was also a 7ft high jumper. He was a teacher and coach at Nickerson, his wife was just promoted to ast super. there. He's donating his organs.
His wife Amy is still critical, Ava the D-1 player signed to play at Iowa last Sunday has a spinal cord decompression. Suppose to make it. Her lil brother was shoved out of the way, by Trey, so minor injuries. This is devastating to so many in and around our state.
So don't talk about drinking and or taking drugs and driving! I love Dtae, he's a millionaire, call an Uber! How fast was he going? He could be in jail, serious shit here.

My apologies- I should've not repeated what I wrote on another board. They were getting really ugly with him, but I wasn't trying to minimize drunk driving. I am a victim of drunk drivers 3 separate times, and have life long medical issues due to the last one. It was a Saturday morning in Houston, Tx back in probably 2001, and I was out working. It was 9:30 am, and I was stopped at a red light, and a woman drunk on her ass slammed into me going around 30+ MPH. The cop said she never hit her brakes. Her car flipped over. The cop said she was so drunk, she couldn't even tell him her name. Totalled my car, and I still have chronic back and neck pain from it ( Learned the hard way on that one why you carry full coverage and not just liability). Of course, the driver had no insurance, no license, but she did have several criminal warrants, and the cop that called me later said she did go to jail after she was released from the hospital.

The Pac 12 would be a death knell for us- the black hole of college sports. I sure hope we don't merge. If anything, I could see Pac12 losing most of their members after all this shakes out. I think the B12 will swoop in.

NC Game thread analysis • Jul 02, 2022 12:05 AM

@wissox said in NC Game thread analysis:

Had a little fun today reading the game thread from the NC Game.

2 people declared the game over in the first half, another was not exactly saying it's over, but basically regretted blowing our chance to win a NC against an 8 seed.

Several people, were encouraging us to believe a comeback was possible.

@DanR: "This is still winnable",

@BCT, "Yes, this is winnable. We did it against Miami. We can do it in the 2nd half. Be steady. One basket, one stop, and one rebound at a time. Make yourself proud guys. Let’s go!"

@Jethro, "game isn’t over. we just have to run our offense, make some shots, and make our layups. We can get back into this- we need to get under 10 by 10 minutes. UNC is going to fade…"

@approxinfinity, "Big Dave coming. breathe"

Someone jokingly blamed some Paul Pierce speech as dooming us.

@Kcmatt7 had this gem! "Jalen Wilson had his abilities stolen by the space jam aliens". I think that's actually plausible!

@BeddieKU23 at halftime with the winner of the understatement of the year, "Need an answer in the 2nd half"

@tis4tim found something positive to say at halftime. "Couldn’t play any worse so it has to get better. Other than that I can’t find any positives."

Someone said we don't even have a chance to comeback.

@justanotherfan had the gameplan for the 2nd half. "KU needs to make layups. Simple as that."

@StLJhawk Dissed our favorite band The Preservation Hall Jazz band and said we were playing worse than them which if true would have meant success!

Another person predicted a falling just short comeback, so they were mostly dour, but not entirely.

@approxinfinity panned my review of the preservation hall saying it reminded him of bland gumbo! And so did @rockchalkjayhawk !!

@Eric-san Said 15 points aint nothing.

@FarmerJayhawk said we're a 2nd half team and 9-11 style said lets roll!

@Jethro Tried to keep us hopeful at the half with this stellar prediction: "they blew a 26 point lead against baylor- we’re coming back, and we’re going to win…"

And then the mood changed. "and 1", "keep it rolling", "Defense", "Killer" (not sure who @FarmerJayhawk was referring to but that's pretty serious stuff there!), "HUGE" "GTFO MANEK", "getting that feeling again", "This is good, see ball through hole", "Whose butts are tightening up now? (I wasn't looking at anyones buts, but maybe someone was?),

and the one comment I'm going to miss a lot, "OCH"

One many of us never thought we'd commit to cyberspace, "Wow, Dave so good"

As the run intensified the Fbombs started to fly in utter disregard for the official buckets 1o commandments!

@Jethro, "Braun the Pasty Gansta" We'll leave that one right there.

@tulsajhwk "We're back"

@Kcmatt7 "Took 9 minutes"

@approxinfinity Hell yeah Remy!

After we got the lead, the foul situation got serious, @Jethro "Bacot’s 10th foul…"

@nwhawkfan had this gem, "Avenge Wilt"

Refs enter conversation "Horrible call", "5 vs. 8", FU Ref,

But to the rescue "Remy"

@BeddieKU23 with some good advice, "HAVE TO SCORE"

@approxinfinity "Dave Mccormack LEGEND"

It's over went to it's not over after Harris' brain fart, but it was short lived. I pointed out "I was jumping like a fool around the living room. I hope I get to again"

@DCHawker was the first to declare "Whew....National Champions!!!"

This has been fun. Post game comments are basically all saying the same thing.

Everyone of you deserves a PHOF for this one. Even you @jaybate-1-0

GENIUS! PHOF carved in stone!

@FarmerJayhawk said in Big 12 Expansion:

I would favor something like what happened with the Big 12 1.0. The Southwest Conference and Big 8 folded and formed the Big 12.

I’ll be honest, I do not give a flying monkey’s arse about BYU, University of Florida - Orlando (Online), or “baby vomit over spaghetti” Cincinnati. I don’t like those cities for road trips and they don’t add much to the competitiveness of the league in terms of economic value.

I also don’t really care about Wazzu or Oregon State. Pullman is more or less in Idaho and Corvallis allegedly is a real city, but I haven’t confirmed that.

So, let’s take the best of the rest and build a legit power league. Stanford, Cal, Colorado, Utah, and the Arizonas are a good start out west. KU, ISU, Tech, OSU, Houston, and maybe another Texas school works. If you can get UW and Oregon that’s even better. All the sudden you have a really good league.

Baby v**** over spaghetti. That is the grossest restaurant on earth. When I lived in Florida, there was a Skyline right next to my office. I tried it once, and it was horrible. A year later, I got talked into it again, and it was even worse.

2022-23 Non Conference Schedule • Jun 30, 2022 11:36 PM

Brunson is set to sign a contract with the Knicks where he is going to be their primary scoring option, after breaking out in the playoffs. Bridges starts for Phoenix. Paschall played for the Jazz. De Vincenzo is a part time starter at Milwaukee. I think Gillespe signed a two way contract. That makes possibly 5 off that roster to the NBA. Spellman is playing overseas. No great superstars- just guys that played several years in a system and had an amazing year. Sometimes in a game, you just make the shots. Our terrible perimeter defense made them look better than what they were.

2022-23 Non Conference Schedule • Jun 30, 2022 09:52 PM

Trying to say Bill was "outcoached" in that 2018 FF game, is a little like saying the Missourah coach Cuonzo Martin was outcoached when we throttled them this year. That 2018 team was flawed- we had the worst defensive team in the Bill Self era. Loved Devonte, love Malik, Doke, and the gang, but you could've put any coach in history in there, they would've lost by 18 as well. I defy anyone to find one metric, any metric that shows that Jay Wright is a better coach than Bill. I think some have overreacted to the 2018 loss, and have bestowed sainthood on Jay without noticing that we have the better coach.

@drgnslayr Nijem is our superstar. How lucky we are to have him! We went from having the most worn out basketball team in college basketball to having one of the freshest teams since he took over. In my opinion, we won that national championship game in part because of our conditioning ( it also helped we had a deeper bench ). UNC was gassed at the end of the game, which allowed us to execute, while they floundered away. Go back and watch the tape of that game, and you'll see Ramsey Nijem's fingerprints all over that win. We just wore em out.

Reasons to believe in next year’s team • Jun 27, 2022 03:59 PM

I am gleefully anticipating Zuby, Udeh, MJ and Dick to the team. That is some serious, serious athleticism, folks. And McCullar will fit like a glove. Dare I say we don't take the big step backwards, and end with more of the same? Maybe not as hot from outside, but defensively as good as a team as we've had in a while? Looks like we have several rim running big men. Coach will use that athleticism to punish teams. Zach shot 36% from 3 before he injured his toe, so he will be a reliable weapon from 3. On the perimeter, the combo of Juando and McCullar will flat get after people. If MJ buys in, we could be looking at the best perimeter defense since 2008. Offensively, JW will be a star, and there's no way that teams will stop MJ... he will be huge, imo. Gradey will probably come off the bench and will scorch 3's, and lead runouts. I could see him and Yes changing the game tempo- I think there will be times when we fast break teams into the ground.

I just can't look at this roster and think this team wouldn't give last year's team a run for their money. Yeah, they'd probably lose, but I think this year's team is more athletic, other than Remy they are quicker, and I think they will not only win the B12, but they could playing the 3rd weekend again this year.

@approxinfinity I salute Coach K for his service to our country in whatever capacity he served. Beyond that, he is an entitled weasel who should be criticized just as much as he's praised. His lectures to players after they whipped his butt speak volumes.

@drgnslayr If the Big 10 only cared about on field football results, they never would've added Maryland and Rutgers who have been somewhere between middle of the pack at their bests in the Big 10 to bottom feeders. There's a lot more than football success that goes into the Big 10 discussions about adding new programs.

TV viewership numbers are down across the board because of how viewing habits have changed so I wouldn't expect any conference to see an increase in their next major deals. The Big 10 is also a conference that tries to keep up with the SEC and with the SEC moving to 16 members, don't be too surprised to see the Big 10 take a serious look at trying to add some combination of KU, Pittsburgh, Virginia, and UNC to keep up with the SEC.

How big are the tv markets for Maryland and Rutgers?

We're not playing 13 deep, why not take one of those spots and get a seasoned vet who won't demand minutes to help coach up the highly ranked newbies? I don't mark this down as mistake- I mark it down as we're playing checkers while Bill is playing chess.

I’ll believe it when I see it with Rice. He’s been more just able to physically dominate HS competition so far. He’s not a great shooter either. Poor man’s Wayne Selden right now IMO

33% from 3. 9.7 points a game. Wayne's first year. Not bad. I'd take that. But I think that's underselling MJ, imho.

'm telling ya once again. People better look out for rice. I thinkhe is being under sold.- -The kid is a stud - -COMPLETE all around player. Bully people around? - - so be it, it is going to be a match up night mare before you know it can pretty much do it all

I think he will give grady a real run for his money for that spot Coach is talking about. - -I'll take MJ on my team any time any day any where

I think he's a true dog, and it won't be possible to keep him off the court. Him and McCullar are going to flat punish teams in the paint. I can see coach pulling Zach outside the perimeter, and Rice posting up down low. He will eat them alive. I think he'll be ahead of Gradey.
