I'm not going to draw hard line conclusions about last night's game. I don't think they're going to bench Newman anytime soon. I know for a fact Svi will make a 3 pointer. If we play the same way against Tucky, then we panic. Until then, we press on.

@BigBad I don't see that at all. DG set up Doke numerous times, and played quite well, imo.

Where are our ball hawks??? Devonte...31 minutes 1 steal. Legerald Vick ...no steals. Newman...no steals. Svi and Garrett had 3 steals apiece, but our transition offense was almost non-existent. Heck, Liangelo Ball stole more from a store in China than our whole team did last night. This team is way too athletic to not get out and run. Man oh man, talk about cakewalking a game...

Wouldn’t it be great if it were found that football and boxing head trauma actually improved brain function. Teachers in schools could just have students wear helmets in class and bang them as they walk by lecturing? We never know what we’ll learn when we start really looking skeptically.

@BShark In my view, it is easier for guards to pick up Self's offense than bigs. If we get Grimes and Langford, that is going to be a spectacular trio with Dotson on the perimeter.

@DoubleDD Nice post, man. Good stuff. The sad part of your question is we might not have any clue how good this team is until the tournament. We have 1 tough pre conference game, a run through the weakened B12, and a decent non- conf game against A & M. That's it. If we beat 'tucky, it is in the realm of possibilities we could make a run at an undefeated regular season ( don't say it couldn't happen. it could. We play the Hillbillies at home first this year, instead of having to play them in Bugtussle first, which allows us to use our homecourt advantage, and gain experience against their junk defense for the road game against them. ) And we would go into the tourney with a team with a marvelous record, maybe the number 1 overall seed, and have no clue how good we are because the team hasn't been tested.

That doesn't mean we can't win the national championship - we certainly can. But, everything has to go right. Doke and Preston might be better than Coleby and Lando, but it won't mean much if they're in foul trouble on the bench. So, I am choosing to believe we will definitely win the national championship this year. Everything will fall into place, and we win the big 6 in a row is the dream. The downside of never rebuilding is every non national championship season starts to look the same, and we begin to not appreciate the 30 win seasons, the B12 titles, etc. All but a few teams would absolutely kill to have just one season like we have every freakin' year. Still, I think all of us are aching for that 2nd Self national title - I know I am.

@jaybate-1.0 LOL. It seems quite odd that Dook's chief competitors this year were L-Ville and Miami, and they suddenly wind up in hot water. I do not see Larranaga as a guy involved in buying players- the dude is clean as a whistle, and he is vehemently denying any involvement. Pitino...absolutely. Larranaga???? No way. Then we look west, and the projected order of the PAC12 in bb was AZ, USC, and Oregon. Oregon is Nike Ground Zero. Who would know better what Az and USC are up to than Nike? Would they quietly drop the dime in order to take out their chief competitors? Phil Knight is a mighty powerful man. Maybe he wants the Dux to rule...maybe he wants to even things up. Funny they busted the VP of Adidas, and they were going to "investigate the AAU Nike camps" when they announced their sting, but strangely, we haven't heard a word about it since. Kind of funny, isn't it?

Maybe the Okie St connection is the fact they have a contract with Under Armour ...maybe it was a well known fact the coach in question was a "fixer" in the industry. If there is a REAL FBI investigation, wouldn't it lead to 'Tucky and Dook, since they seem to be able to pick anyone they want at anytime? Remember when Dook couldn't get a big man for years??? Remember when the Squid had 2 Final Fours set aside for cheating???? This FBI investigation raises more questions than it provides answers. Something is rotten with the whole thing, imo.

@HawkChamp I thought we settled for jump shots for a good while, and looked rushed. When we started working the ball inside, I thought we looked better. I would like to see Newman and DG drive the ball more.

I thought our offense looked disjointed most of the night. I think DG took a powder. which won't happen during the real games. This team could certainly take some time to gel, but I think we definitely have enough firepower to compete with all comers.

@mayjay I hope Billy will be ok - we need him.

I think the guy Garrett could steal minutes from is Svi. I thought Vick looked tremendous, and Garrett's defense will put him in the lineup a lot. Svi should still get lots of minutes, but maybe not as many with Garrett playing the best defense on the team.
