Game day chats this year - let's use Slack • Oct 31, 2017 11:25 PM

Slack isn't working.

@BShark It doesn't snow in Florida where I live. I nearly froze to death yesterday morning when it got down to 52 degrees. I'll never forget freezing in Kansas every winter ...don't miss that part of Kansas a bit.

@jayballer54 Snow? OMG.

Time to rename "The Streak" • Oct 31, 2017 04:01 PM

@elpoyo Bill Self was just elected to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall Of Fame. So, were the voters "sunshine pumpers"? It must really chap you to see him do well.

let's take that badboy out for a test drive today...woo woo! RCJHGKU....

@HighEliteMajor Well, i'm sure glad they played that game - I know how much you had fretted about it. Too bad it's only a one time deal. Maybe they feel it is more important for us as a national power, and national brand, to play another national power, and national brand like 'Tucky, instead of playing a regional game in the B12/SEC Challenge. Anyway, I wanted to congratulate you for Bill finally listening to you. i mean, he is your brother.

@HighEliteMajor Thanks to all for permitting me to win the Border War argument. The rivalry is back on. Just be patient.

I wish we could get you a Jamari Traylor autograph for nailing that prediction.

@JayHawkFanToo I have no doubt the conference gets a slew of bids. 6...maybe 7 bids. How many of those teams make it past the first weekend could be as low as 1. In the 2nd game of the tournament, there might only be 2 B12 teams with a higher seed than their opponents... KU and WVU. Great to see TCU and Texas Tech both taking big steps forward this year, and I really feel OU is going to be a tournament team. I'll give Texas the benefit of the doubt, and put them in as well. Iowa St takes a step down, imo. Baylor is a question mark to me, but I could see them slipping in, too. That said, this certainly isn't 1988 in the conference.

Scrimmage Results • Oct 29, 2017 03:04 PM

@HawkChamp I think KU, OU, Texas, TCU, T Tech, and WVU all get bids to the tourney. No doubt the conference is on a downward spiral, even with 6 bids to the tourney. The overall talent in the conference is the lowest its been in a long time. The Pac 12 dirty money is flowing like a river, two ACC teams are accused of making bids for recruits, and the grand FBI investigation that was going to straighten all this out is looking more and more like a planned hit on Adidas to benefit Nike. I'm certainly not saying that Pitino didn't deserve to walk the plank, but I wonder if we really knew the truth if it wouldn't reveal a whole bunch of big name Nike school coaches have done the same things as Pitino, if not worse.

@BShark Cable companies are craven buzzards. They attach a vacuum cleaner to your wallet. I got a flier that said " Phone, hi-speed internet, and cable tv only $29.99". I thought..well, even if the cable is just local channels, that's not bad at all. So, I called. It's 29.99 for each item, not including equipment rental, and taxes. So, the 29.99 package could be mine for only 119.88. Buzzards.

Good Story about 2008 Team • Oct 28, 2017 12:14 PM

@jaybate-1.0 I had never heard of it, either. But it is quite a fascinating story. The Borg has done a masterful job of burying the story in the snow for all these years.

@mayjay Everywhere in the world, it's called the Arkansas River. In Kansas, it's the AR - KANSAS river. Miami, Oklahoma is not Miami, Oklahoma. It is Myamma, Oklahoma.

First Game • Oct 27, 2017 10:48 PM

@Hawk8086 Well, I don't stand at the window and yell at them to get off my lawn. Not yet...lol.

@jaybate-1.0 I have a querstion for you : who actually won Operation Highjump?

  • Querstion is actually spelled with an extra "r" in honorarium to a certain attorney from Houston who managed to say the word "querstion" about 50 times in a 3 hour trial. His client ( the guy that pulled the gun, and robbed my fiance) ended up getting 11 years, but I have not stopped mocking that attorney for the last 20 years. I say this because I wanted to compliment you for your phonetic spelling of Missourah. I had never seen that, and I got to thinking ...they can't even pronounce their own state ..what does that say about the cesspool known as Misery?
First Game • Oct 27, 2017 06:01 PM

When my kids were young, I would buy them candy in lieu of going door to door, or take them to an organized event where they could load up. The last time I gave out candy, it seemed like all I was getting were teenagers, and they would raid the bucket. I think I had maybe 5 kids all night that were under 10 years old. So, I quit giving out candy.

First Game • Oct 27, 2017 05:50 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 I love kids.

First Game • Oct 27, 2017 05:42 PM

i'll do what I always do on Halloween- don't answer the door.

@KUSTEVE I ended up with my high score of the year so far with 348 points in the pickem contest. Since there are no salary caps to meet, the scores are always higher than the salary cap game. I won a nifty $2.50 on a .25 contest, so I'm in tall cotton.

PHOF
MU-KU on at 7pm tonight. Meto Sports. • Oct 26, 2017 06:19 PM

@wrwlumpy What is Meto Sports? Is that a KC area station?

@KUSTEVE I'm 28th in the pickem out of 1,942 entries at the moment. Hopefully, this adds up to dough-re-mi...

@BShark My 2 lineups are tanking. I threw in a pick'em lineup and that one is looking real good right now. Demarre Carroll is looking real strong...

@BShark My big pick is Paul George, who I think will go off tonight...

@BShark I went with Simmons, Eric Gordon, Otto Porter, Aldridge, Gortat, Mike James, Paul George, and shabazz Muhammed in one lineup.

2nd lineup: Simmons, Gordon, Paul George, Otto, Steven Adams, Poetl, and Klay thompson.

I took a pounding last night with Wigs terrible game ( among others). I also wheeled Anthony Davis, so it was brutal. I played about 20 entries last night, so tonight is real small for me.

I had Jarryd Bayless in instead of Muhammed, which I am kind of kicking myself for taking him out. I had Chalmers in for awhile, but went with Mikes James, who is starting tonite. i looked hard at Oubre ( who i think will have a good game tonight ), and JJ, but went another way tonight.

Meet Billy Preston: 6th man • Oct 25, 2017 05:01 PM

@JayHawkFanToo You think they'll play Lightfoot over Vick or Svi? I think if Billy or Doke get in foul trouble, we'll go four out with Vick and Svi, and play with 1 big. Just my opinion.

I'm Ready For Antlers Again! • Oct 25, 2017 03:17 PM

We won't play them again unless we meet in the NCAA tourney, imo. Knowing how the NCAA likes to engineer roadblocks for us in the tournament, I wouldn't be surprised if we saw them again this year.

Meet Billy Preston: 6th man • Oct 25, 2017 02:26 PM

@jaybate-1.0 He said we'd play 4 out 50% of the time.... However, if we continuously run into foul trouble, which we very well could, it could be 100% in order to protect the bigs from fouling. Nice post.

Meet Billy Preston: 6th man • Oct 25, 2017 02:18 PM

@HawkChamp I think he will start eventually.

Checkmate - Border War Back On • Oct 25, 2017 02:03 PM

@REHawk Only in the years we play 'Tucky in the Champions Classic. The KU/'Tucky match up is the marque game of the series.

@BShark Many times I felt we could've signed perhaps a real good player that might not be Top 10 or even 20, but we were holding out for the big pick, and we end up missing a guy like MacCormick. I am so happy and relieved we are taking the top 50 guys. UNC made two straight national championship games and winning one title by going that route. Maybe we have a chance at holding on to them longer than a year.

@BShark Please elaborate...what are they doing differently with recruiting?

GREAT ARTICLE ABOUT DEVONTE AND COACH SELF • Oct 24, 2017 10:00 PM

@kjayhawks Dougie Snotlieb still remembers when he was laughed off the court for having his britches on backwards.

GREAT ARTICLE ABOUT DEVONTE AND COACH SELF • Oct 24, 2017 09:37 PM

@BShark I have read every word that Parrish has written in the past 10 years, and this is the best article he has written about us. He normally is anti-KU, or neutral. He's picked us to not win conference about half the time. Maybe it was the hurricane relief, but this is a considerably softer stance than what I'm used to reading.

GREAT ARTICLE ABOUT DEVONTE AND COACH SELF • Oct 24, 2017 09:21 PM

I would suggest if you only find fault with Coach Self, you might want to skip this one:

So you cats are ok with playing a pontetial top 25 team in the exhibition season? Not only that but against MU? Who has everything to gain and nothing to lose? You want this every season? You want KU to stop playing pushovers and play nothing but top 25 teams every game?

Please help me understand?

  • Yes. Yes. Yes. No. Not necessarily. I have posted numerous times trying to help you understand.

@KUSTEVE

Seriously who did you walk away with more impressed with?

Remember MU is young and very talented. KU is pretty much set.

Should KU play this type of exhibition type of game? Especially against a team that has the talent to beat and nothing to lose?

Who has more to gain? MU or KU? MU is young and talented so they get the benefit of the doubt. KU is kind of set.

Do feel comfortable playing this MU team in the tournament?

More "impressed" with? uhhh.....KU.

I already covered that in my last post. Yes, we should play this type of exhibition.

Who has more to gain? I covered that in my last post, too.

Yes, I feel comfortable playing Misery in the tournament. Hell yes.

Well that was fun or was it? • Oct 22, 2017 11:02 PM

We gained tremendously. This was 'Tucky prep. Tucky prep is very important. They will be our highest rated opponent- it is essential we win that game. We played someone that challenged us. Absolutely, we have way more to lose- which is why it was important we answered the challenge. Anytime you take on an inferior opponent, the pressure is always on the favorite. You view challenging the team as a bad thing - I look at it as a positive thing.

THE TEAMS THAT WON"T MAKE THE TOURNAMENT • Oct 21, 2017 12:05 AM

Really nice article about teams that made the tourney last year that won't make it this year. 3...count them 3 B12 teams predicted to not make it that made it last year. This conference is taking a big step down.

Are we done recruiting? • Oct 20, 2017 11:58 PM

@Kcmatt7 They have them nailed to the wall. I have no doubt the FBI has tons of evidence, or they wouldn't have specifically referenced the actual case where Quinerly got the bribe in their press conference. I'm sure they have a money trail. This is obviously one of the gimmes...the open and shut case- they always lead with their strongest stuff. All of this will be shared at some point with the NCAA, I'm sure.

I believe in Revelation 12, even if I get laughed at. When the only astrological symbol listed in the Bible happened for the first time in human history, it got my attention. So, when I hear about potential meteor showers, it gets my attention.
