Night number 2 ... beer number 2. I've become a raging lush.
@Crimsonorblue22 LOL. Now, that was funny...
First beer in months. This is hard core tee totaling. I think I have a buzz.
@jaybate-1.0 That was a masterpiece.
It is POURING outside. This storm wasn't supposed to hit here until very early Monday morning. It is quite a gully washer outside.
Found batteries last night. Got my water on Wednesday, and found gas really early yesterday morning. I think it is mandatory that all Hurricane nuts must purchase at least 1 6-pack of beer, so the tee totaler is going to break down, and buy some suds.
@wissox I am 3 blocks away from the water, but there is about a 20 foot retention wall, and a incline the water would have to go up in order to be a factor to me. Now, the other sides of the bay are in deep trouble, as there is no wall what so ever. So, it will probably flood the people on the lower end. We're talking some really high dollar homes probably regretting that beautiful view about now.
@Crimsonorblue22 The traffic is bottled up for miles and miles. The problem with evacuating is you get stuck on the highway, and you run out of gas. And there is no gas to find. I have a mountain of food and water, and I'm going to ride it out.
@mayjay No water, bread, batteries anywhere here. Going to Walmart tonight to hopefully snag some batteries.
After having my gut wrenched watching Harvey plow into Houston, now my gut is wrenched again watching the computer models with Irma. It is going to really smack us hard on the west coast of Florida.
@mayjay I defended brown for 25 years, until it was apparent his methods were indefensible. I'm still not going to cast aside the achievements of that team, because as far as I am concerned, Calvin, Ron, Danny and company earned their place in KU history.
@mayjay So, when it was revealed that Brown had given Askew money to go visit his sick grandmother as the reason for probation, you were ashamed of the "stain" that Larry had left our program at the time? Or did that come later, after the problems at SMU surfaced, and more information surfaced decades later about Brown's tenure at KU? I would've thought the 'visiting the sick grandmother" would be compelling enough for you to give a Hall of Fame coach the benefit of the doubt- which I did, considering the NCAA changed the rules later for situations just like that. The other icky stuff didn't come out until decades later, when it showed that Brown was ...pathological??? I think everything happens for a purpose...Larry got us in trouble...Roy almost got us in trouble ...and Bill has never been in trouble. none of that has anything to do with Larry saving our program. Larry saved our program, and Roy saved us from Larry.
@drgnslayr Hindsight makes us all smarter. Brown DID save our program, and that was fine with the fan base for 30 years. Now, some additional information comes out making Brown look bad, and everyone wants to rewrite history. To suggest we didn't care if Brown cheated, we just wanted wins assumes we had knowledge of the infractions, and looked the other way. And we both know that is not how it worked. I recognize Brown's contributions to our program, while I condemn his methods at the same time.
@JayHawkFanToo I'm not debating who was best - i am looking for players that are good rebounders, and TRob came to mind. If Simien was better than TRob, then change the names in your mind when you read my post. It's like a DIY post.
@JayHawkFanToo He made an impact on our program in more than one way.
@dylans TRob averaged 17 ppg and over 11 rebounds a game his junior year. He had his offensive limitations, but...he has been the best rebounder in the modern era, better than even Collison. Our interior defense has not been the same caliber since him and Withey left. Now, we got some flashes with Embiid, and Perry and Landen did a solid job (for the most part) down low, but nothing like TRob/ Withey.
I want a kid described by scouts as an "elite rebounder on both ends". It's good he has quick hands, has great fundamentals, and is an offensive threat, but I want the boards, man. Pair him with Dedric down low, and that is an elite rebounding tandem.
@mayjay I remember that. It is so funny for me to hear people complain about a 30 win season with an Elite 8 appearance as failure. No, that is not failure. Failure is going 8-18. Failure is making the NCAA tournament one time in five years. Failure is losing to the Shlockers in your one appearance in five years. Can you imagine how bonkers the fan base would be if Bill had back to back losing seasons? Uncle Ted did that several times.
Uncle Ted made two Final Fours. Both times, his teams won 2 games to make it there.
@Lulufulu Roy took over a team that had been excellent for 5 years: Bill took over a team that had been excellent for 20 years: Larry took over a team that had sucked the past 5 years. No comparison, imo. Now, if you want to say who has the best record, then Bill wins. Beyond that, nobody has accomplished what Larry did.
@Lulufulu Roy was never an assistant to Larry Brown.
@drgnslayr Larry saved our program. I'm sure there are people who have a jaded view of his methods with good cause. I'm not one of those people. We got caught - we paid a price in Roy's first year. Not condoning what happened, but Ted's last 5 years were 18-11, 15-14, 24-8, 13-14, and 13-16. 1 NCAA appearance in 5 years. That 5 year stretch does not include his worst years, which were 8-18, and 11-15. Then again ...looking at Uncle Ted's numbers, maybe I have been condoning it. Back then, the need to be relevant as a program was paramount. Uncle Ted ran this program into the ground, and he should've been let go way before he was finally fired, imo. Of course, I was a lot younger then, and I was much more forgiving to a coach that took us to 2 Final Fours and a National Championship in 5 years.
The best coaching job was done by Larry Brown, imo. Our program had slipped tremendously until Brown came aboard.
@dylans He is an elite rebounder - Jamari wasn't. He has some pretty good ball handling skills - Jamari didn't. He can score with his back to the basket -Jamari couldn't. He can defend the rim - Jamari did average a block a game, but I wouldn't classify him as a rim defender. He can shoot from 3 - Jamari couldn't. He can drive to the basket - Jamari could as well. He can steal the ball - Jamari had quick hands, but not in the same league as Silvio. The hi-lo with Tarik and Jamari was a thing of beauty ...those short passes were sweet. Beyond that, I don't see an equivilance between Silvio and Jamari. With this kid's nose for rebounds, I would venture to say we have a mini TRob. They are calling him an elite rebounder on both sides of the court.
@HighEliteMajor Practically every one of Louisville's bigs have been African. Louisville is another Adidas school.
@BShark We've needed a guy like him for awhile.
The recruiting world was surprised on Wednesday afternoon when the news of Silvio De Sousa's commitment to KU broke. It wasn't surprise that De Sousa committed to Kansas, it was more surprising that he did it without visiting Maryland - who has long been thought to be the leader for De Sousa.
Now the De Sousa has committed to Kansas it's time to look ahead and see what he will bring to Kansas once he arrives in June. According to 247Sports Director of Scouting Jerry Meyer, De Sousa will be a terrific fit in Coach Self's system at KU.
"De Sousa found a great fit in the traditional high-low attack of Kansas," said Meyer. "He does a great job of controlling space down low and is also effective with the basketball in the high post," he added.
Meyer also thinks that playing in a structured offense will help De Sousa thrive at the next level.
"I would expect him to thrive in a structured system that values touches in the low post," said Meyer.
247Sports National Recruiting Analyst Andrew Slater also thinks the Jayhawks landing a perfect fit in De Sousa.
"Silvio De Sousa is a tremendous pick-up for the Jayhawks. With his mix of a high motor, very good athleticism, and strength, he's one of the premier two-way rebounders in the class," said Slater.
Slater says De Sousa's athleticism and versatility are two reasons why De Sousa is able to guard multiple positions on the defensive end of the court.
"He's a good rim-running big man, who can defend both the four and the five," said Slater.
De Sousa has worked hard to improve many aspects of his game, something that Slater has taken note of while watching him over the last year.
"The Angola native used to be more turnover and foul-prone, but both of those areas have been dramatically cut down on, as he adjusted to American basketball. Defensively, he uses his active hands and good lateral quickness to generate steals and as a good weak-side shot-blocker. His weakness right now is with his face-up game and similarly at the free throw line, but, with his work ethic, I fully expect him to become a more complete big man. His preferred uptempo style fits with what coach Bill Self has historically been so successful with," added Slater.

@dylans “We want to be in the game, not be a spectator with all the answers." Bill Self
Are we the spectators with all the answers that Bill would rather not be?
@Fightsongwriter I think he's taller than Jamari and Perry. Jamari was 6'5...same with Perry. I think Silvio needs to grow his hair out a couple more inches- that'll do the trick.
@HighEliteMajor Would you estimate him to be as tall as Jamari? What about Perry Ellis?
@bmensch1 He should be eligible for that game. I could be wrong, though.
1- KU
2-WVU
3-OU
4-TCU
the rest..who cares?
@BeddieKU23 That is what I was seeing- a bull in a china shop going downhill- practically impossible to stop once he gets going. What was giving me pause were all the mixtapes where he is playing against mighty mites less than half his size, and the references from other posters on here about his lack of interest in playing defense.
@mayjay I had my microscope out- I had to split that hair. Otherwise, I'd be wrong.
@Texas-Hawk-10 Barrett became number 1 after he dropped 38 against US19. Before that, Zion was number 1 on 24/7.
Just look at this guy. This dude is amazing. The way he protects the ball on the block. The short jumper. The 3 point shot. Dribbling the ball. Passing the ball. The under the basket shot. The blocked shots. The poise ...the even keel demeanor.
[
@Texas-Hawk-10 He was number 1 on a website I was looking at.
It is a challenging schedule, but not nearly as tough a schedule as in years past.
@jayballer54 I know you're jazzed up about him, so I'll certainly try to see what you and coach see.
@BShark Is zion williamson really the number 1 overall player? I think you need to sell me on him, if possible.
OMG, what a stable of bigs next year. We will simply have a front line that will be tough as nails.
@wissox Maybe your humerus bone was the culprit.
@mayjay That too.
@HighEliteMajor Yes, him too.
@wissox He is actually related to Jon Phillip Sousa, so him and Billy Preston will lead us to a melody of wins.
this is how we do it...
She wasn't his girlfriend, from what i understand. She was a friend of a girl that Bragg dated. That makes the assault even nuttier.
My kids and grandkids are all riding it out. Some damage to the roof is about all the damage they've gotten so far. No flooding. My best friend's daughter got 5 feet of water in her first floor apartment. She is currently living in a hotel.
@mayjay I like the typo better. It adds mystery to the guys that go round a circle 500 times.
I'm going to need for you to sign on the dotted line, sir. Enough teasing- I need some commits.
@JayHawkFanToo He was my favorite player growing up, and Hartman was my favorite coach. I didn't turn on K-State until I went to KU. Of course, Hartman retiring had something to do with that.
