@mayjay That was bad last year. This happened on the court, which makes me rate this incident much lower. Maybe what happened was someone took ownership of the paint, but did it in an unacceptable way. I'll bet you Lightfoot jacked with him so badly, Lightfoot's nose thought he could take on Lawson's fist. I don't think this will stop Lightfoot one bit , or stop the star of our team next year.

@BShark Lightfoot is a tough S.O.B., and I get the feeling the reigning AAC player of the year is as well. Maybe part of Lightfoot's training should be knowing when to hold em, and when to fold em.

@BeddieKU23 I suggested that, but I was told it was not related to Mitch, so who knows?

I'm not concerned this is a deal breaker. Big deal...yes. Death penalty? No.

**β€œDedric is not gonna go on the trip,” Self told reporters roughly 17 hours before the team boards its flight. β€œI’ve suspended Dedric temporarily because of an incident in practice. An altercation occurred and he didn’t handle it well.”

Self did not go into greater detail other than to say that Lawson was aware of how and why he did not handle himself well during the incident.**

Sounds like it was handled.

I wonder if this had anything to do with Lightfoot's broken nose.

@Crimsonorblue22 Crap.

@mayjay I didn't realize you were in a fight with her- my apologies then.

I have just as many gripes with the republican party as I do with the other party, if anyone is curious.

mayjay said:

@JayHawkFanToo Laura Ingraham has made a career of telling people how to think. This is just a backlash of conservative political correctness: the right can't stand being challenged by people who say things they don't agree with, or who make them uncomfortable in how they say it.

I appreciate the fact you've learned the exact rebuttal given to you by progressives when someone questions the progressive dogma. "Laura Ingraham has made a career of telling people how to think." So, the implication is Laura is manipulating her audience, and the people that listen to her are mindless idiots that don't have the ability to think for themselves. The end result is it allows you to feel superior because you can "think for yourself" while you
do exactly what you accuse Laura's listeners of doing : not thinking for yourself. Now, I am not a Laura fan, and i find her boring, not a good interviewer......BUT I have never seen her pull out a flute like the Pied piper, and make people do anything.

I've been hot on the recruiting trail, trying to land us a big, and I think I found him.

@approxinfinity It took me a long while to realize that practically every poll you read is an engineered narrative. Kaep kneels...the NFL viewership drops 25%, period. No amount of dishonest polls will change that.

@mayjay The "poll" will always reach the conclusion the pollster wishes. Those in charge of the poll make sure of it.

We need BASKETBALL ........NOW. Too much time on our hands points out our differences. Man oh man, our front line looks skinnier than a one toothed man in a corn on the cob eating contest.

Football took a big hit when some of the players decided to kneel for our national anthem. It caused a fan concussion that left the sport in concussion protocol.

Bagley for Whitman β€’ Jul 25, 2017 01:35 PM

@BeddieKU23 It has sunk in. Deeply.

We Need a Title β€’ Jul 22, 2017 11:37 AM

@HawkChamp We will see the Devonte we're used to seeing next year. I think Jaybate is right - the kid was playing injured. We get the warrior back this year- the fierce competitor that outplayed Buddy Hield in that glorious game. Devonte's performance in that game impressed Marcus Garrett so much, he mentioned it as one of the reasons Devonte was his favorite player. Everyone seems to be selling DG short, but I'm not. There is a reason he is my favorite player. There is twisted steel behind that smile.

Bagley for Whitman β€’ Jul 20, 2017 11:48 PM

@HawkChamp We need a Dwight Coleby.

Bagley for Whitman β€’ Jul 20, 2017 10:09 PM

I hope that Lightfoot has really made the strides necessary to be a factor. I hope the positive stories turn into positive results. We need for him to take a step up.

Bagley for Whitman β€’ Jul 20, 2017 10:04 PM

I thought we already had Whitman's minutes covered. Starting in place of Whitman, Clay Young will now play the last minute of games instead of Whitman.

@jaybate-1.0 What happened to the hi-lo? Did it go when Doko takes a blow, so we gotta shoot from down below? The 5 out...give me a few to wrap my head around the idea.

Bagley for Whitman β€’ Jul 20, 2017 11:24 AM

@BeddieKU23 44% from 3. looks like he can score down low as well.

@DoubleDD We aren't going to be running the 4 out/1 in very often, imo. That will tremendously help our defense. Having a 7 footer at the rim helps as well. To believe that a Bill Self team is not going to compete defensively after a bad defensive year is complete, utter hogwash.

@Texas-Hawk-10 The fact you are still misrepresenting what I said is telling. That's the 2nd post you have twisted what I said to suit your narrative. If you want to believe that 13 extra minutes per from Svi, and 3 extra minutes from DG completely destroyed our team defense, there isn't much more else to say, is there? You are going to be eating some Texas size crow very shortly.

@Texas-Hawk-10 You are so stubborn in your thinking, it makes it hard to have any kind of discussion. I never blamed Josh for last year's defensive debacle. I blamed our coaching, but you would only know that if you read my response. I think your knee jerked so quickly to respond, it must've knocked you senseless. Secondly, you never bothered to answer the points I made. I take it you have never heard of a 1st baseman named Yonder Alonso. Smart guys just like you were saying Yonder can't hit home runs. Yonder's career high in hrs until this year was 9 in a year. Until he learned how this year. He has 21 so far. Devonte is going to be fine defensively, just you wait. Vick will start, so you can't blame Svi anymore. Coach Self will have this team playing better defense than last year's team, period. I don't need any correction or response from you - I've had more than enough of the condescending smart guy routine.

@Texas-Hawk-10 I guess you've forgotten who our coach is. I know our team's defense will be better because I know our coach. You keep going on about our individual's defensive shortcomings, yet we are two years away from having the 3rd ranked defense in the country. That team started Frank, Devonte, Wayne, Perry, and Landen. All great guys, but I don't see any NBA all star defensive guys in that group. They simply played team defense together as a group. I think you're not anticipating the brutal assault this team are going to feel from a coaching staff more acutely aware of last year's defensive shortcomings than you or I:

2013/2014- KU signs Andrew Wiggins, the number 1 recruit in America. Team defense collapses, leading to 2nd round ouster. Team ranked 22nd def eff- the worst in Self's KU history.

2015/2016- Team with Frank, Devonte, Wayne, Perry, and LL finish 3rd in def eff. Every post game has a comment from a player discussing their team defense.

2016- KU signs Josh Jackson, the number 1 recruit in America. Team defense collapses, leading to E8 ouster. Team ranked 24th def eff- the worst in Self's KU history.

The last time we collapsed defensively, the next year we ended up 10th in the country. i wonder if he lets up on defense when we have the number 1 player in the land. Maybe he doesn't want to be seen as quite a hardass...the good news is he doesn't have the number 1 recruit in the country, so these guys are going to get the full Monty on defense. You can't put a period on the end of a sentence that isn't written yet, and our defense is still a work in progress.

@HawkChamp Really nice work on the thread. i agree the whole way- we do have the potential to go further than last year, as our defense will be significantly improved.

Putting pressure on the current Jayhawks β€’ Jul 18, 2017 04:26 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10 We had no options than shooting 3s, and Frank and JJ driving to the hoop. That's all we had. Throw the ball into LL, and you get the double clutch, the slow motion gathering himself, and most times, a missed shot. We had a huge hole in the middle. Our front line couldn't score in the paint*(unless we drove it), and we couldn't defend the rim. You reference our big 3 (Chalmers,RR, Rush)from 2008 on the perimeter, and one of the reasons they were able to play the passing lanes, and create so much havoc on the perimeter was they had two very good bigs behind them to protect the rim.

We are adding two very large bodies down low. Those additions should allow our perimeter guys to play tighter. Will they be as good as 2008? No. But, we will be better than last year, imo.

2018 Recruiting Thread β€’ Jul 17, 2017 12:43 PM

@Texas-Hawk-10 I see Vick as a starter, and our leading scorer. I see him playing the 3 with the big frontline behind him.

Putting pressure on the current Jayhawks β€’ Jul 16, 2017 02:04 PM

@approxinfinity Last year's team had the worst defensive eff in the Self era. Any improvement will help alot. It is ironic that the two worst defensive teams in Bill's tenure came when we had recruited the number 1 player in the country. I'm not suggesting there is a link, because I thought Josh was our best defender. In retrospect, the posters who said we couldn't replace Perry and Wayne were right, but not for the reasons they had originally surmised: it wasn't the offense we missed ... it was their defense we missed. We go from 3rd in the country in def eff to 24th in one year. I say we'll be back in the Top 10 in defense this year. Love the size on our front line, although we could be holding our breath with Doke's fouls all year.

Big Nick Collison to retire after this year. β€’ Jul 14, 2017 10:42 PM

One of my favorites. Just an amazing player.

Putting pressure on the current Jayhawks β€’ Jul 14, 2017 01:49 PM

@DoubleDD It's all about defense, imo. That 2008 team was a tremendous defensive team. Can this team defend like 2008?

We Need a Title β€’ Jul 14, 2017 12:24 PM

@brooksmd I didn't take his post as a "Fire Bill" meme at all. He raised legitimate questions in a thoughtful manner. These were the same exact discussions the fan base had when Roy was coach. I certainly didn't want Roy to leave, although his losses in the tourney still sting. The question isn't whether we have played badly in Elite 8 games ( we have ), the question really is: do you believe Coach can overcome them? And my answer is an emphatic yes. I think this year we break through. Our roster is LOADED for bear. We actually have a front line for the first time in a while to go with some great guards. I think we'll be much better defensively, and our offense could be prolific. This year the monkey is off our backs.

We Need a Title β€’ Jul 14, 2017 12:17 AM

@HawkChamp I agree with practically everything you said. Roy was worse than Bill, imo. Roy didn't get stuck in the Elite 8, but we had team after team that would have their worst game of the year at the worst time in the tournament. Talk about missed national championships...OMG. I think Bill is coaching in Elite 8 games not to lose, and his anxiety over an Elite 8 match up seems to freeze the team. That is not permanent, though. Remember, the book on Roy when he went to UNC was he couldn't win the national championship. Bill will get this figured out- he's done it before, and will win a national championship(s) again. It seems like the other teams are more ready for us than we are for them. Is coach making the adjustments pre-game to take away their strengths, or are the players not following the game plan? How does Senior Perry Ellis come up with a game like he had against Nova? What happened to Devonte against the Ducks?

I would not agree with Self leaving anytime soon. He feels like KU is the best job in the world. I don't think Bill is an NBA coach. His temperament and demeanor would not translate to the NBA, imo. Can you imagine what Coach Self would do if his NBA team had drafted a Jordan Bell ( how ironic ), and a Draymond Green had sent him expletive laced texts over his pick? And truthfully, there is no better job in college basketball than head coach at KU.

A couple of things β€’ Jul 13, 2017 04:22 PM

@jayballer54 I'm licking my chops over Doke in the middle. The monster in the middle ...can't wait to see him this year.

Can we put the KU versus MU rivalry to bed? β€’ Jul 13, 2017 02:57 AM

The whole point of this manipulation is to call Coach Self a hypocrite. I don't think HEM gives a rat's ass about playing Misery- he just wants to run down the coach, and stir people up. I guess the next subject will be our failures in the tournament- oh wait...you already covered that, didn't you?

2018 Recruiting Thread β€’ Jul 10, 2017 12:13 PM

"Mr. Recruit, we have a lot to offer you for 2018: our point guard position is filled, but our 2/3 guard spot might be open providing you don't mind beating out a potential Vick senior year, a young, promising Garrett, or a very athletic Cunfliffe. Now, Newman will probably declare, but he might not, so don't let that worry hang over your head. Could we see a KJ Lawson at the 3, or would it be Lawson/Lawson down low, or even a Doke/Lawson if the big guy comes back? Don't forget we have a 3rd year big named Lightfoot as well. And if Mr. Preston sticks around, who knows where everyone will play. We might not be able to offer you a minute's time as a starter next year, but you could end up in our rotation. Everything is clear as mud. Sign with us. "
