@Lulufulu My point of comparing Frank to Devonte in their junior seasons was to show going into their senior seasons, there isn't some great drop off. I personally don't want Devonte averaging 20 ppg, like Frank did last year. I would prefer he averages more assists than Frank did last year.

Frank Mason Junior Year vs. Devonte Junior Year:

Frank- 12.9 PPG/ 4.6 assts/ 1.9 tov/ 43% shooting

Devonte -13.4 PPG/ 4.1 assts/ 1.8 tov/ 42.8% shooting

Any questions?

@JhwkrRedLegs EJ and Devonte have nothing in common other than they played at KU, imo. I'm really at a loss to explain why there seems to be doubts from our fan base concerning Devonte. I don't know what you all have been watching, but I've watched 3 years of Devonte, and I have no doubt that he will lead us tremendously next year.

@JayHawkFanToo Amen.

@dylans CBS dropped us to number 2, and moved up AZ to number 1.

@stoptheflop Devonte is fine. He deferred last year - he won't this year.

The less pressure on Newman, the better. I want him playing with a free mind.

If Svi comes back, then we're really deep. Lots of talent at every spot.

Keegan's Bluff • May 21, 2017 12:17 PM

@Fightsongwriter He played well against Dook- not as well against Louisville. Of course, Louisville started two 7 footers, as I recall. And Whitman did not have a 7 footer in the lineup to help him, or DG, Vick, Newman and company. I see a poor man's Collison as reference. The difference in basketball intelligence from Bragg to him...well, it is going to be night and day.

Dwindling Big 12 Basketball • May 20, 2017 12:33 PM

@JayHawkFanToo It all depends on their guard play. They had a stout front line last year, but still finished with their worst record in decades. Their guard play was terrible last year.

Keegan's Bluff • May 18, 2017 09:01 PM

The big question for me is, do we gain from Whitman instead of Coleby? At first, I was certain we didn't. The more I processed it, the more it makes sense. Coleby was never going to play along side Doke, while Whitman certainly will. Whitman can score down low in a variety of ways, which has become a very rare occurrence for some time now ( excluding our dunks. we always get dunks ). Coleby wouldn't have been able to help if Preston doesn't make the grade, so to speak. Whitman allows us to go big all the time. Self used to post up Perry with mixed results- now he has a 4 that can finish. Now we're not having to rely as much on a freshman ( Preston ).

Keegan wails away, bemoaning the loss of Frank, and JJ. He's right about them not being duplicated. Perhaps he is simply trying to let us down now because he doesn't see what I see. He boldly asserts we won't be top 5, and I couldn't disagree more. His premise that our season hinges on Doke steadfastly refuses to see the way we've played the past two years. Hi Lo or no go, if you will. We're a combo team. We can play big, grind it down, or play 4 out. Tell me you mixed up Vick and JJ at times going to the basket like I did at times last year. "That was JJ...nope, it was Vick" happened to me on several occasions. And topline talent? Newman is a 5 star guy going into his 3rd year. Preston is a beast. I like our chances.

Coleby Transfers • May 16, 2017 10:44 PM

@wissox I don't like it- not one little bit. I am afraid beyond Doke, we aren't going to have that much. At least size wise.

@BShark Not one little bit.

@JhwkSqdn These people are starving from an evil form of government that has starved millions of people to death over the past century.

Why I'm looking forward to next year. • May 13, 2017 12:51 PM

I don't see any weaknesses. Let's say Preston clears- then you have a 4 with size with superior ball handling skills. With Doke. And Devonte's best year, and Newman's breakout, and Vick's breakout. Maybe Svi's breakout, too. Defensively, we'll look alot better, and I don't see us having any trouble scoring.

Svi - quick update... • May 13, 2017 02:40 AM

Preston hasn't been hammered yet. No reason to worry about a situation that hasn't happened yet. They'll figure out a way to handle the scholarships.

Svi - quick update... • May 12, 2017 11:40 PM

Svi will go pro. That ensures he will be back because my success rate with the stay/gos is around 10% right. " I guarantee Embiid will be back"!!! Wonder who said that?

@tis4tim The reason I give Bruce Weber hell is because he coaches Silo Tech. And he's a whiny little girl. Not just an enemy...a sworn enemy.

May We Never Fall To Bruce Status • May 11, 2017 07:53 PM

@tis4tim he is our sworn enemy, and we must defeat him.

Dwindling Big 12 Basketball • May 11, 2017 04:36 PM

@BShark I would classify Dedric as a 5 star, although he was ranked as a 4 star originally.

Dwindling Big 12 Basketball • May 11, 2017 01:59 PM

I didn't embrace the Transfer U angle at first, but I am warming up to it. 3 3rd year guys inserted into the lineup next year. 3rd year 5 star inserted into the lineup this year. I'll take those guys over the OADs every time. The last 5 stars that made it to their 3rd year were Perry and Wayne, and that worked out very well for us.

@BShark His quote goes into detail about winning a national championship with 'Tucky. That's where I would guess he goes, simply by the emphasis in his quote. He is envisioning playing there.

@BShark I'm not 100% exactly sure, but if not, he's real close.

@Fightsongwriter Nice response...lol. Made my day...

@JayHawkFanToo The premise was we were shaking every tree out there to make it happen on our roster. You're going to be 70 too at some point...God willing.

@BShark I don't want to see a HOF poster get run off the boards for making a clerical error. His main point wasn't discussed- only his clerical error.

@BShark I think over the 10,000 amazing posts Jaybate has made, if he makes an error on conference affiliation, then he has earned the right to be cut a little slack. The salient point hasn't changed- Coach Self does more with less than anyone in college basketball. We don't hand over starting jobs very easily- almost never will you see a true freshman go directly into the starting lineup ( except for 2013, when we had no choice ). Before oubre was assaulting green meanies, he was not starting his first 10 games at KU. So, we can't just hand out starter's minutes the year before. We don't "HAND THE KEYS OVER" to a Trae Young, like OU. We don't guarantee starter's spots to 8 people, like the Squid. Bate's main point is we're getting to Elite 8 games with Towson and Appalachian St recruits. We're shoring up our front line with a William and Mary transfer. If we had Nike instead of Adidas, it might be different. But, we are stuck with Adidas. It is a testament that he can take a player with extreme limitations like LL, and turn him into a rebounding fool. Is there a talent embargo? Absolutely. Are we making due with what we have? Absolutely.

@approxinfinity I don't remember who posted their Texas Ranch pics- it wasn't me.

What Jaybate is posting is true. Looks like folks are so caught up with the conference mistake, they're missing the point. Our first national player of the year for Self came from Towson. Our starting point guard came from Appalachian St. Our #3 big came from Bill and Mary Jane. The Lawsons came from the formerly relevant Memphis out of the powerhouse AAC, our top 5 transfer guard came out of Miss St ( yes, they do field a bb team), and our pg for next year came out of Fascist U ( they do play basketball at Cal when they aren't assaulting conservatives, and pissing all over the First Admendment ). We aren't talking about getting 8 transfers from Kensucky or Dook- Bill is taking a hodge podge of talent where ever he can locate it. It might not be the CAA, but these guys come from the depths of college basketball, and are transformed once they hit Lawrence.

Dwindling Big 12 Basketball • May 07, 2017 12:58 PM

@approxinfinity You can count them. I'll give you 4. So, we have 4 in the top 100, and the rest of the conference has 5. Out of 9 teams. We are chugging along, the rest of the conference...not so much.

Dwindling Big 12 Basketball • May 07, 2017 12:48 PM

@chriz We looked shocked over how athletic Oregon was.

Dwindling Big 12 Basketball • May 06, 2017 05:11 PM

@drgnslayr When UT and OU blocked Louie from becoming a B12 member, I knew the conference was going to be all about OU, and most especially UT, and not for the overall good of the conference. The B12 was over then, imo. So, will it be the Big 10, the Pac 12, even the ACC? What conference will KU be a member of in 5 years?

Dwindling Big 12 Basketball • May 06, 2017 03:52 PM

I went back and looked at 247 Sports Top 247 recruits, and was wondering how the Big 12 fared as a whole in top 100 recruits for 2017. I guess the only word I could find to accurately describe it would be pitiful. 7 top 100 recruits for the entire conference. Iowa St has 1. WVU has 1. OU has 1. Tejas has 2, and we have 2. 5 Big 12 teams don't have a Top 100 recruit. The slimy SEC has simply dominated recruiting like no other conference. 22 top 100 recruits, with a good potential of several more signing late. I know they have more teams, and more wallets than the Big 12, but 3 times as many seems extraordinary. At this rate, we might win the Big 12 for the next 30 years. Here's the breakdown:

1- SEC - 22

2- ACC - 19

3- Pac 12 - 17

4- Big Ten - 11

5- Big East - 8

6-Big 12 - 7

There are 3 B12 teams ranked in the preseason Top 25 : WVU at 22, Faylor at 9, and KU at number 1. We certainly have had more in the past. Now, I realize our transfers had a direct impact on these numbers, but if you take KU completely out of the equation, we're still looking at 9 teams signing 5 players. The big question is: have we morphed into the SEC, where Kentucky and Florida were the only good teams for years? Do we have a shot at winning the conference for the next generation consecutively? And how does Louisville feel now about being rejected by the B12, and having to settle to play in the ACC? (I know how I feel about it. )Final question: are we going to wind up having to follow the lead of the Shlockers, and find a better conference when the lack of talent in the Big 12 drives down the RPI? Down to the point where if we were to lose in the conference tourney, we'd be on the bubble due to our weak sisters in the conference?

Carlton Bragg to Arizona State • May 05, 2017 11:43 PM

In my opinion, the only question marks we have are Doke and Preston. Not a bad problem to have. They will take time to develop, which is why a Coleby and a Whitman are so important. We're going to punish teams down low with that size- Bill will take full advantage. I think our perimeter is the best in the nation for the 2nd year in a row. Everyone is wondering about Newman's impact, but the "Vick Impact" could be just as big. 6 years combined college experience at the perimeter. Tons of experience. I think all 3 are double digit scorers. I think we have the talent 1-5 to win the national championship. If these talented players can mesh together, this might be the team that can win the national championship. I think the trip to Italy is huge for this team. Extra exhibition games, extra practices, more time to bond and gel as a team... it couldn't have come at a better time.

@JayHawkFanToo He's been riding the gravy train. Let's put it this way- he will never be mistaken for an "energy guy". BUT, he was one hell of a coach back when he was at Tulsa...many moons ago.

Lawson Family • May 05, 2017 10:57 AM

@mayjay I think the clincher was Tubby's son was brought in on his coaching staff, and the Lawsons viewed it as nepotism. Maybe a little bit ironic, but it worked out well for us.

@drgnslayr It's just nice to see a big that can score with his back to the basket. Can you imagine how much better Whitman would've made us last year?

@Kcmatt7 He plays hard, and is quite scrappy. I think we got a pretty good one.
