I like his post moves. Left handed hook shots. Head fakes. Looks like a high bb IQ. And he's willing to ride the bench. What's not to like? It's not like we can offer any recruit that much playing time ( except Duvall ).

@BShark I was reading UNC's thread about Whitman on one of their fan sites, and the best was a person that said that he has to play well to overcome the "porn 'stache". ..lol.
Whitman is Lightfoot insurance, in case he isn't ready yet. It's Preston insurance in case he isn't ready yet.
Markieff's injury could swing the whole series between the Wizards and Hawks:

@dylans I think you have it nailed. A complete team. I would definitely like for us to sign another big, but we are real close to having another top 3 team.
@approxinfinity That's my Sherron recollection also.
@Texas-Hawk-10 Call me out? After I called you out over you twisting around Bill's history? That was your ego talking. You haven't convinced me or persuaded me of anything, and I will continue to "call you out" when you make dubious claims. For some reason you seem to think it is a real bad idea to be cautious who we turn the reins of the best college bb program in America. I happen to want the very best coach for our team, regardless of whether they have former connections to the program or not. If you want to "call me out" over that, by all means, knock yourself out.
@Texas-Hawk-10 I'm glad you brought Roy's legacy hiring because it jogs my memory: do you remember who Roy replaced at UNC? That's right...the legacy hire a.k.a. Matt Doherty. Oh my goodness, what a great hire that was. I think you are begging the question a bit with the "Self was a KU guy" before he was actually a KU guy. He served as an assistant for 1 year- I think he was a Larry Brown guy before he was a KU guy, because he spent the next 7 years coaching at his alma mater. A connection to KU? Absolutely. A KU legacy hire? No way. I'll give you an A for effort, though ...lol.
@JayHawkFanToo I think I'm taking the legacy issue just right, tyvm. My choice right now would be Brad Stevens.
@Texas-Hawk-10 Because the sole reason any coach should be hired is can they coach, not where they graduated from. We're way beyond that stage. I used the English example because that was clearly a case where legacy appears to be the only reason he was hired. Roy could coach no matter where he went to school at; same with Bill. And they weren't hired at their present positions because they were alumni. Yet, when anyone discusses Bill leaving, the only criteria seems to be whether they played here. You can keep correcting me on this issue, and I will continue to rail away about it. If/when we lose Bill, I want the best to replace him, period. No asterisks, no " we're saving this job for Danny "....none of that. If Danny is the best coach in America when Bill moves on, then I'm all for him. If he's not, then I don't want him as coach. It's not that I don't love Danny...I do. But this program is beyond Danny or Jerrod at this point by a long margin ...this program commands the very elite- the very best. To settle for anything less would simply be a travesty.
@JayHawkFanToo Reasoned response. Perhaps you can keep that handy the next time the entire board gets legacy fever...lol.
@Lulufulu KU is a better job than the Celtics.
@JayHawkFanToo Ummm..is there any coach that isn't a legacy you would consider? I mean, if the reason you're hiring someone is they attended KU, isn't that following Meth U, and their hiring of English? I personally hope we never hire a legacy. Larry Brown never attended KU, nor Roy, or Bill. Why is it now so important to have a KU grad as coach?
@JayHawkFanToo You're trying to equate Jerrod Haase with Bill Self? That is some real wishful thinking, imho.
Ask Misery about their legacy pick, Kim English. How'd that work out?
All of these legacy picks. We're not a legacy school. Bill took Tulsa to the Elite 8- what did Danny do with Tulsa? Haase had a good year at UAB, and followed it up with a losing record his first year at Stanford. Not nearly Bill Self quality. Not even close. I would say 10 years out that Brad Stevens would be my number 1.
@Texas-Hawk-10 I don't like it.
@wissox It's hard to believe he's just a freshman. He plays with a ton of poise. He will be fun to watch.
oh, the narratives are bouncing around those little soft brains of the sports writers aren't they? Now, they're writing we're Transfer U to get us deeper in the tournament? Seriously?

@Kcmatt7 2 minutes for Garrett in that scenario.
@truehawk93 If we sign Duval, who loses time? DG, Newman, or Vick? Then if Svi comes back, we have a mess on our hands. Besides, I want to see Garrett get minutes, as he'll be important to our future. I'd rather see a Tilmon help our front line, where there are more minutes up for grabs. Not saying I wouldn't take Duval, but I think front line help would go further to making us a better team.
@Crimsonorblue22 Considering Bam declared for the draft today, which makes 8 Mildcats declaring, I think the answer would be yes.
Newman kept his word. The key is Diallo hasn't hired an agent, so Diallo could be right back at Kentucky next year. Maybe Diallo wants an honest assessment from the NBA on the skills he can improve on. If he had hired an agent, I would feel different, but just declaring for the draft doesn't mean anything yet.
@KUSTEVE I'm glad we didn't sign him. He looked pretty one dimensional to me- a BG clone.

Allen to Nebraska
Brewster Academy guard Thomas Allen, a 6-foot-2, 180-pound guard who recently asked out of his commitment to North Carolina State after a coaching change, announced via Twitter this weekend that he had committed to Nebraska.
The one-time KU target who came from the same prep school as Jayhawks Thomas Robinson, Naadir Tharpe and Devonte’ Graham told the Lincoln Journal Star that he was hoping to make an immediate impact next season and Brewster Academy coach Jason Smith said that put Nebraska in a great position during Allen’s recruitment.
"The deciding factor for Thomas is an opportunity to earn playing time very early in his career,” Smith told the Lincoln Journal Star. “Nebraska as well as other schools that were recruiting him were recruiting him based on his elite-level shooting. I think it was Nebraska who definitely came into the picture for a need for perimeter shooting on their team.”
Maybe we can get him qualified early.

@DoubleDD The lightbulb came on for Roy. Before his first championship, the whole world said the same things about Roy as they do now about Bill concerning the tournament. I personally feel we are being outmaneuvered in that 2nd game of the 2nd week. They are more ready for us than we are for them. Our offense gets completely stymied year after year in that Elite 8 game. Look at the offensive firepower we brought to the Elite 8 game - and we score 60 points. Player of the year. Possible number 1 pick in the NBA draft. Wow. We weren't playing vintage Georgetown with Ewing and company....we were playing a team that wasn't at full strength because they had lost their rim protector. And we were dominated.
Now, that said....just because we haven't doesn't mean we can't. We did it in 2008, so, it's there. But, there is certainly a disconnect going on because no one will convince me that we couldn't have won against those arrogant wanna bes.
When the Son sets you free, you are free indeed.

@justanotherfan Wiggins isn't a star?????
I'm not sure what there is to be afraid of concerning next year's team. We have experience, size, and pretty good depth. Malik sacrificed a year to learn our system- he'll be the best redshirt/transfer we've had since Mac. Vick breaks out in a big way, Doke will be vastly improved, and Preston has a great skill set. We'll get the best season of all from Devonte, who will be amazing this year.
@joeloveshawks You said it all there. Best OAD ever.
@Kcmatt7 LMAO...hahahaha...
@jaybate-1.0 When they first started the scam, it was athletes only. Then some diabolical ingenious thinking led them to realize if they offered the fake classes to regular students, then it could be argued this was an "academic" problem instead of a problem with athletics. No probation....no death penalty. And now we are in, as you put it so succinctly, in the 4 corners phase. How to cheat out in the open... how to play the system, even if it makes a complete mockery of college basketball, by Roy Williams.
What is the topic about?
@drgnslayr I liked that match up zone that the Dux used. I wish we had that in our arsenal.
@Crimsonorblue22 He probably hired him to act as a buffer zone between him and his players. Stubby looked terrible the year before, when he was screaming in his player's faces. He is a little tyrant bully, imo.
@drgnslayr let's say he sticks around longer than this upcoming year. Then we would have Garrett at the point, Newman at the 2, Vick?/ KJ Lawson at the 3, Dedric at the 4, and whoever at the 5. That's some real fire power.
@jayballer54 His shot reminds me of Kellog's rainbows. Of course, Ron was a lefty, but he shot the ball really high, and Newman shoots some beautiful rainbows,too.
I wish he would come back. He might be the most explosive player we've ever had.
@Crimsonorblue22 Why would she hate KU? That would be irrational.
@BShark He will be simply spectacular. I can't wait to see him playing with Doke, Vick, Newman, and DG. The guy knows how to drive to the rim and finish, and hit the 3.
@BShark I agree all the way. He is absolutely perfect - unselfish, very bb smart, can certainly score, and doesn't mind driving the ball. Several of his drives remind me of Frank- several of his 3 pointers remind me of Wayne.
@BShark I think he makes a significant impact in his first year. Guards in Self's system develop much quicker than bigs, and this guy can flat play.
Roy intentionally did not recruit the best players when he was at KU in order to please his daddy Dean. Roy could not win the big game. Alot of the people who get frustrated at Bill because it's been 9 years since the last title have no clue how deeply frustrated it was for Roy to do that for 15 straight years.
@tis4tim I dunno- I copied and pasted that.
@Kcmatt7 Coach will give him the tutorial on social media, I'm sure.
Is Cunliffe one of the reasons that Svi is testing the NBA?
@BShark Are we signing Shakur?
