@bskeet Watching Diallo and Bragg in the Mickey D AA game replay on ESPNU before tipoff with Brazil. What a treat to watch this beforehand. Diallo looks beastly....

GREAT START β€’ Jul 04, 2015 12:33 PM

Various thoughts:

Jamari and Landen : 33 minutes 2/4 shooting = 4 points. 5 rebounds- 0 offensive rebounds. 4 turnovers (all Jamari), and 2 steals (all Jamari). It's like we're playing with a big doughnut hole in the middle. Deja vu from last year. I can't wait until Diallo hits the court. Can't wait.

Carlton Bragg - 9 minutes with large plastic object over his face - 0 fer 4 + 1 free throw = 1 point. 3 off rebounds + 3 def boards = 6 boards in 9 minutes. He was the only big that challenged Turkey's elbow swinging brute in the middle. Once this kid gets things figured out, it's going to be next to impossible to keep him off the floor. Me likey.

Wayne is playing like we always hoped Wayne could play. Now, can he be consistent game after game? The 3 spot is perfect for him. Hubba, hubba.

Cannot wait to get our wounded back. I love the tempo we're playing at, and would've loved to watch Devonte scorch some Turkey butt with some nice runouts. Our defense was very impressive - love the pressure, the steals....for a second I thought it was 2008. We're going to be a much faster team, and one of Diallo's strengths is he can damn sure run the court. Put Devonte and Diallo in, and we could have one of the fastest teams in college bb.

@drgnslayr No you wouldn't, because they would've chopped it off before you got in the front door....just like Bruce, or Ruth or whatever he calls himself.

BRAGG HAS A BROKEN NOSE! β€’ Jul 02, 2015 02:27 AM

I actually had a sports related injury last year. I was watching the Jayhawks in the NCAA tournament, and I jumped out of my chair at my desk, and banged my knee on the desk. It was of the most painful 3 seconds I ever had watching a game.

KEEGAN'S ARTICLE ON TRAYLOR'S NEW MATURITY... β€’ Jul 01, 2015 12:27 AM

Jamari was our worst player last year, in part, because he was asked to play out of position. I remember him trying to stop ( was it Ridley?), and it was a total mismatch. I also think Wayne was asked to play the 2, even though his natural position was the 3. So, maybe Jamari won't have to tangle with 5s, and that will help him. Would I like to see Jamari avg 20 minutes again this year? No, but i am more than willing to remain open minded about it. I fully expect Wayne to have a breakout at the 3, so I will hold out hope for Jamari as well.

I am reserving passing judgement because of what I call the "Frank" syndrome, where I hoped preseason last year that Devonte would beat out Frank because Frank's spotty play during his freshman season. Boy, did he prove me wrong. So, I will defer judgement on Jamari, although I hope he doesn't avg close to 20 minutes until he proves something more than last year.

Many Thanks to Larry Brown β€’ Jun 30, 2015 12:36 AM

I am estatic over Wayne at the 3. I think it will match his skill set much better. I have swung around 180 degrees with Wayne, and his new position. I think he could have a break out year. I think we have a shot at the title, and moving Wayne to the 3 will help us get there.

WAYNE IS OUR #3 - OH HAPPY DAY ! β€’ Jun 27, 2015 03:31 PM

@HighEliteMajor I don't see Svi starting ahead of Devonte. I could be wrong on it, but I think Devonte will be a starter from day 1, with Frank, Wayne, Perry and Diallo. It's my opinion that Svi has more growing to do before he becomes a starter. I know you're looking at the size mismatch at the 2, which would be a big advantage. Hopefully, Svi is ready for the big step forward, but my money is still on DG.

@Crimsonorblue22 What you talkin' about, Willis?

WAYNE IS OUR #3 - OH HAPPY DAY ! β€’ Jun 27, 2015 11:39 AM

Coach dropped a bomb, a beautiful bomb on us last night:

On Wayne Selden, Jr., playing with more confidence:
"Wayne was our second handler the year before where now we are playing him as our third handler, so he doesn't have to be on the ball or do some things he had to do before. If he was in with (Andrew) Wiggins or (Kelly) Oubre (Jr.) he doesn't go to the offensive glass nine out of 10 times, he's got to get back for balance. When he is in with Frank or Nic it adds something to his game because he can become the offensive rebounder. Things like that will help him moving forward."

Devonte, Frank, Wayne, Perry, Diallo. This is huge news....and great news....

Well exhibiton 2 Done- - - -And. β€’ Jun 27, 2015 11:30 AM

We had two players (Wayne / Frank) with double doubles, and Perry was 1 board shy of a DD. What a year those three and us will have this year. RCJHGKU.

Cliff β€’ Jun 26, 2015 09:22 PM

Speaking of KU BASKETBALL, freedom of speech, and riffs with Cliff, I had a very astute observation :

Lou Diamond Phillips ....yes, that guy - the kid from La Bamba, now stars in a wonderful show called " Longmire", and as Lou has aged, his cheeks have went from super - small all the way up to jumbo-sized. His cheeks make the "Big Gulp" look small. I am thinking we might have found that 4th chipmunk for Alvin and the gang.

@wissoxfan83 Exactly...LMAO. It totally puts me on tilt...

Cliff β€’ Jun 26, 2015 10:47 AM

He blames his mom and he blames KU. He rubs the schools he didn't choose when he announces he selects KU. Now, the crash of the mighty ego. Man oh man, you know he is hurt down to the core, and I feel for him, even if I don't approve of his actions.

Now, he could take two different paths here :
1) Continue in the arrogant myopia where you blame everyone else for your problems, and you end up flipping burgers ...or:
2) Grow up.

I certainly hope he chooses the right path.

THE INNOCENTS ABROAD 2.0 β€’ Jun 23, 2015 07:17 PM

@jaybate-1.0 OMG...how good do you think these WUG teams are? Just wait until we beat a few of these scrubs by 60 points- I think we'll dominate. I am genuinely disappointed in your outlook for this year, and couldn't disagree more with your assessment. I will be awaiting your epiphany.

WUG uniforms β€’ Jun 23, 2015 12:51 PM

Chants of "USA, USA,USA" scare these Shoe weasels to death. National pride cannot be tolerated when the goal is the death of the nation state. And if means slapping KU brand all over an international event at the exclusion of "USA", well... they could always fall back on the concept KU brand is bigger than the USA brand, and Shoecos operate on a different value system than "love of country".

I certainly do not object to the uniforms looking through the prism of a KU fan, although as an American citizen, I think it sucks when I see an American swimmer at the Olympics wearing a black suit. This is a hit job against our national identity ... God forbid we show national pride...

Scrimmage β€’ Jun 20, 2015 11:12 AM

@jaybate-1.0 They can't really go after KU since they aren't really going after UNC. Normally I would have the same concern concerning the NCAA "rule stack" we normally would endure, but that ACC "circle of protection" has us covered this once.

Man we sure seemed cursed. β€’ Jun 19, 2015 05:39 PM

@jayballer54 I couldn't disagree more. We are BLESSED abundantly. Thank God Devonte and BG's injuries came when they have plenty of time to get back to 100% before the beginning of the real season. We are NOT cursed in any way, shape, or form. Last year, we lost Perry's A game, and Cliff altogether, and still made the NCAA tournament, and won a game before bowing out. Most teams would fold up ( Kentucky-2013- 1st rd loss to Bob Morris NIT ), but we fought through, and never quit.

Little update on 2016 recruit Jackson β€’ Jun 18, 2015 05:57 PM

Unfortunately, I detected a Kentucky smirk, so I would have to put coach Squid and the evil ones in the lead for this guy. You know - that smirk that Julius Randle and the Bobsey twins always played with? We haven't done very well landing smirkers the last several years.

No Malice, or Bad Karma intended to mess up landing this man-beast.

The Designer likes Bragg β€’ Jun 17, 2015 11:28 PM

@DoubleDD I always wanted for Coach to play TROB with both Morii in the game, but he never would. I'd love to see Bragg at the 3- love that stepback 3 he shoots from downtown. It might be a pipedream, but I like the way you think.

@wrwlumpy By the time it gets to the 3rd side, it's a shot clock violation. We better take it the hole, or launch away, because 24 seconds goes by quick...

The Designer likes Bragg β€’ Jun 17, 2015 07:47 PM

@DoubleDD I just love the new guys coming in to along with our deep team. There's a good chance we're playing 1 freshman at a time next year, which is huge, imo, compared to the last few years, where we had as many as 3? freshman playing at a given time. I always thought one of the advantages that McLemore had ( other than redshirting) was being the only freshman in the lineup, which I thought helped him to play around so much experience. And these incoming freshmen have a huge advantage playing with such a large crew of wiley veterans, not to mention a slew of practice and games in the summer. This team will be a top 3 team from the very first tipoff. I have a feeling we're going to be laying the wood to some folks like we haven't seen in a while around here.

Svi is not the key β€’ Jun 17, 2015 01:26 PM

Oh ye of little faith. Our MVP will probably change game to game, although Perry and Frank will rack up the lion's share. The MVP of our team will be our depth, as two of our rookies are getting invaluable practice minutes, and will get to play in a slew of games that other recruits across the country won't. So, Bragg and Vick start out the regular season with 1/3 of a season under their belts. Not the same intensity, of course, but more time learning the system is a good thing. Throw in a very deep, experienced team, along with the best big man recruit in the country, and you have a recipe for a title. somebody will take the 3 job, and run with it, and do a great job. Same with the 5. Our depth this year will be light years ahead of last year, and I flat guarantee Jamari will not average 20 minutes a game this year. I think my rose colored glasses are looking at a bouquet of roses.

Grade The New Kansas Recruiting Class β€’ Jun 16, 2015 05:09 PM

@Statmachine No doubt. This was obviously a lottery ticket moment for the whole family.

Grade The New Kansas Recruiting Class β€’ Jun 16, 2015 12:35 PM

@Statmachine You are assuming a laundry list of characteristics about Mom that I'm not convinced of. I personally think if the truth were known, Mom was an accomplice to Cliff's plan to cash in sooner than later. I simply refuse to believe any lending organization would loan a nickel on somebody else's money w/o getting some form of commitment from the bread winner. I doubt Cliff's mom had the wherewithal to put something like that together w/o help from her son, who obviously knew a lot more than he's letting on...imho. The villain here isn't Mom...it's Cliff. Mom helped with the money laundering, for sure, but I think this is 100% Cliff's baby. Just my opinion, fwiw.

@jaybate-1.0 I believe it is rotten to the core, imho. I think it will come out one day that ncaa violations were enforced too harshly for some, and not at all for others. I think it will come out the ncaa has stacked the tournament to ensure easy paths for some, and unbelievably difficult for others ( Dook gets some amazing good draws, year after year ). I don't trust them. I don't think they have KU's best interests at heart, in either the enforcement of their 8,000 page rule book, or the way they seed us.

So Much Depends on Svi β€’ Jun 14, 2015 11:57 AM

@jayhawkbychoice Very nice post. The " eating the imaginary cereal" line made me laugh, as I've wondered if anyone else thought it looked as weird as I had. Guess that answers it for me. I have been hoping Wayne goes to the 3. and you've given me hope the dream isn't dead.

So Much Depends on Svi β€’ Jun 13, 2015 05:35 PM

I want Wayne to play the 3, even though it probably won't happen. A lineup of Devonte at the point, Frank at the 2, Wayne at the 3, Perry and Diallo would suit me just fine. We have such a deep bench we could sub in and out, so not worried about our "little" guards as much. We could still see a Selden breakout at the 2. Many of us last year ( myself included ), called for Frank to lose time to Devonte in the preseason, which turned out to be the wrong call. I just hope he works on his ball handling, and decision making, and I would prefer if we are getting pressed, he lets Frank/Devonte bring the ball up. We've seen the flashes of the great in the Florida and the Baylor games, and the games where he can't seem to wait to commit a turnover, so maybe we have a budding Tyshawn in mental acuity on our hands. ( the last line is meant out of love from a fan who was taught a great deal of patience from Tyshawn).

As for Svi, I have still been visualizing him as a scared freshman, not as an experienced veteran having added 15 lbs of muscle, and an 18 year's old passion to get better. So, I've been selling him a little short. So, like Scully and Mulder, I want to believe.

RICO GATHERS ARRESTED AT WALMART. β€’ Jun 12, 2015 11:11 PM

What's the big deal? Doesn't everybody shoplift?

Grade The New Kansas Recruiting Class β€’ Jun 12, 2015 04:50 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 We're agreeing his defense will need work, whether at the 3 or the 4. I would hate for his offensive game to be reduced to trying to score with his back to the basket down low against beefier guys when he would present a true mismatch for most college 3s. But, if he can't defend against the smaller guys, and they are driving right past him, coach wouldn't have him on the floor at the 3 anyway. Good discussion.

Grade The New Kansas Recruiting Class β€’ Jun 12, 2015 04:33 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 You're probably right, but i can't get that step back 3 out of my head, the drives to the hoop that remind me so much of a right handed Oubre, and the way he swats lots of shots away from behind ( trailing plays). My fear is he'll be Perry Ellis2 on the blocks.

Grade The New Kansas Recruiting Class β€’ Jun 12, 2015 03:42 PM

@drgnslayr Agreed on EJ. he was never the same after going fulltime to the point. I enjoy chewing the fat on possibles in the off season - we have such a deep team with so much experience, along with some really talented rookies coming aboard. This is going to be a year to remember, imo.

Grade The New Kansas Recruiting Class β€’ Jun 12, 2015 03:21 PM

@drgnslayr I've rolled around the thought of Selden at the 3, with Devonte running point, and Frank at the 2. Is that a pipe dream?

Grade The New Kansas Recruiting Class β€’ Jun 12, 2015 03:09 PM

@justanotherfan So my fantasy isn't dead?..lol.

Grade The New Kansas Recruiting Class β€’ Jun 12, 2015 02:51 PM

@drgnslayr Who plays at the 3? Man it would be great if Svi had a Frank-type fresh/soph improvement, Is he the starter, or does Greene slide in there? Or a split reminiscent of our 5 rotation last year? I have parked my Bragg at the 3 fantasy after watching Trey Lyles school Bragg on drive after drive on Youtube. And, is Vick going to play the 3, or is he going to play at the 2? what say you?

Grade The New Kansas Recruiting Class β€’ Jun 12, 2015 01:21 PM

@elpoyo Or, he was nervous at being in front of the spotlight, and made a mistake.

Grade The New Kansas Recruiting Class β€’ Jun 11, 2015 12:22 PM

@HighEliteMajor I figured you'd give them a 10 as well. This is your Kaviar Shepard class, with 75% of the class highly likely to return for multiple years. That bodes well for our future.

I guess I could attempt to sell you on the idea that Diallo could make the largest impact of any OAD in the Self era, but I know how upsetting this concept seems to be to some of the brethren around here. So, I will soft-sell the idea of watching Diallo instead of Jamari/Lucas at the 5 should be worth the 10 ranking by itself.

I was unaware of a guy named Carlton Bragg until a poster named HEM referenced him long before the recruiting season as the essential "go-get" out there. I happened to agree after watching this guy absolutely light it up, and was thrilled when he signed with us. Now, I know now from our other brethren on here there could be "no possible way" that Bragg could ever make up the 9 ppg we lost from Oubre, but just call me a blind optimist by saying he will score that much.

Then we have that "low rated" guy named Vick, who i said would bring lightening fast quickness, and speed that our team needed. Thank God the "board experts" were right on hand to correct me that NO...Vick doesn't have Div 1 quickness. Quote from Coach Self yesterday:

β€œHe may be the best athlete on our team. He may be the highest jumper. He may be the quickest player ... Lagerald Vick,” Self said of the 6-foot-5, 175-pound freshman combo guard from Memphis.

I guess Self hasn't gotten the memo yet...lol.

So, I admit my 10 ranking was a reaction to the wave of beatdowns I received for being excited about the new guys we have coming in. And I apologize in advance for using your simple question to fire back...lol. As Jaybate says, no malice intended.

Grade The New Kansas Recruiting Class β€’ Jun 11, 2015 12:38 AM

@drgnslayr It's a 10 for me, A motivated OAD, along with two 2- 3 year players are what the Dr ordered. Not sure about Coleby, but he'll have a year in the program before he hits the floor, so he'll give us a big body we'll need next year.

Cyclones Reaching For Big Dance Choose Prom β€’ Jun 10, 2015 06:41 PM

@drgnslayr Nice article on behind the scenes. I assume he runs the same offense as Fred, so it won't be as big an adjustment for the Clones as I had hoped. And dang it, how many years has Niang been there.....6...7...8... years now? Wish that guy would finally graduate.
