Hoping Lonnie goes soon

NFL Draft - 2023 • Apr 28, 2023 11:20 PM

@AsadZ good summary!

I thought the Chargers going after another tall WR was funny.

Arterio Morris is a Jayhawk • Apr 28, 2023 11:09 PM

Guard play is solidified.

We have recruited as if we feel the Adams guys can hold down the 4. Would love a 4th spot to open up.

Utah Valley's Aziz Bandaogo in the Portal. 7 foot Soph avg 11 and 10 with 2.9 blocks per game

I know nothing and can't see much "film". But those numbers are intriguing.

Toledo's RayJ Dennis in the Portal, another big time scorer. MAC player of the year. Avg 19.5pts, 4.3 boards, 5.8 assists on 48% shooting, 36% from 3.

also would take! Plays bigger than he is. All over the court. Rebounds, assists, steals. Guy can play. Has KILLER post game actually lol.

I'd probably prefer Dingle's ability in ISO situations. But I have to say that Rayj sort of fits the "share the ball" attitude good Bill Self teams have.

2023 Transfer Portal • Apr 28, 2023 03:48 PM

Penn's Jordan Dingle expected to portal.

Best guard rumored to enter outside of Murrell imo. Guy can fill it up and get his own. Efficient scorer putting up 23ppg on 16 shots. Finishes in the lane. Draws a lot of fouls. Makes his free throws. Will be coveted.

2023 Recruiting • Apr 27, 2023 03:34 PM

@BeddieKU23 I don't love the film myself tbh.

Looks like an elite shooter, but other than that there is a lot missing.

2023 Recruiting • Apr 27, 2023 02:42 PM

@rcjhdraft Mgbako?

2023 Transfer Portal • Apr 26, 2023 05:25 PM

CJ Fredrick moving to the B12 with a commitment to Cincy. Probably goes for 30 against us.

2023 Transfer Portal • Apr 26, 2023 05:21 PM

Huggy got Raequan Battle.... WVU has quietly put together a pretty damn good portal class. Should be able to compete in the top half of the league this year imo.

@FarmerJayhawk said in Thoughts on Arterio Morris:

Man if we get both Hunter and Morris, that’s a hard group to cheer for

The KU Athletics PR department will be BUSY if they get those two

Thoughts on Arterio Morris • Apr 26, 2023 04:53 PM

I said it before, but unless KU was seriously interested in Morris they wouldn't have ever had him on campus. You don't let that PR nightmare on campus unless you basically want and need him.

I expect him to announce he's a Jayhawk on Friday. Expectations from Bill and Goff should be simple. He has to be a model citizen while he's here and anything short of that will be unacceptable.

From a basketball perspective, Morris is a future NBA player and I low key think he could potentially be the best player on the team next year even if they landed Dickinson. Obviously would need to progress quite a bit, but he has every tool you could want from a player. Dribble, pass, shoot, shifty, explosive, etc. Guy can do it all. If UT isn't incredibly loaded, he gets a ton more minutes. Probably plays 25mpg at 99% of schools last year.

2023 Transfer Portal • Apr 26, 2023 04:36 PM

Hunter Sallis to Wake.

Glad to see him off the board.

KU Offseason Chef Bill Cooking Thread • Apr 25, 2023 06:32 PM

I dont' see how he gets a waiver anyways. Even if he were willing to come off the bench. Not sure how you take him without a 4th spot anyways. Either you know someone else is leaving or Dickinson is going elsewhere.

Article on Billy Preston • Apr 24, 2023 06:31 PM

@Jethro Crazy to think that if he gets to play we have him instead of a midseason reclassed Silvio De Sousa on that FF team. That Nova team was a total wrecking ball, but I do wonder if he could have played D better than Doke for us that game in a small lineup...

@dylans said in 2023 Transfer Portal:

I see it the opposite. The Texas techs of the world are just farm teams for the haves. KU is a have, so f’em is the attitude. Who desires a level field when you’re on top? KU basketball will be just fine. The field? TBD

3 of the 5 top players on the TTU NC appearance team were transfers.

There are 1400+ transfers in the portal. KU can only take 3-4 of them. There is SO much talent out there to be had.

@dylans my in laws are in jersey and when I saw the property taxes I couldn’t believe it. 3-4X what they are here.

2023 Transfer Portal • Apr 21, 2023 09:02 PM

@BShark I think that NIL and the transfer portal created a much more level playing field for everyone. Sure, it is chaos. Sure recruiting your own guys to stay feels insane sometimes. But now KU/Duke/UNC/UK can't just hoard talent the same way they always have. Where the 12th guy on their bench starts at 99% of other schools in the country. Now you have to find a way to keep that guy from leaving you to go start for ECU, Cleveland State, New Mexico, Boise State, etc.

The portal and NIL allowed Miami to get their first ever FF and their first two Elite Eights. SDSU's leading scorer was a Cal transfer. Their #2 scorer was a transfer from Seattle. 4th scorer from TCU. Literally the starting 5 of KSU were transfers at some point.

Teams who legitimately could not compete in a world where transfers had to sit out, and they didn't have the favor of shoe companies to land talent could not truly compete. This is SOOOO much more of a balanced system than it was before.

@FarmerJayhawk I think you saw this, but maybe in a different way. Not an exodus from cities to rural. But an exodus from higher cost of living states to lower. But maybe that's an assumption on my part. My sister moved to Dallas a couple of years ago, and I'd say 30% of their neighbors moved from California. So maybe this is anecdotal for me and not reality.

@Kcmatt7 I took accounting classes at KU. I would be terrible at your job. I don’t have the attention span for that type of work. It takes a different kind of dedication. I appreciate the work that you do, as I can’t.

Pretty sure I'm about to get wiped out by AI :face_with_tears_of_joy:

I 1000% agree that you have to hire people to succeed for the job. It makes perfect sense that hiring people who grew up in that world would perform better in the role. And when I hire, I certainly try to hire people who will be in the role for a period of time and give a good effort.

A lot of proof of this when you consider Vietnam. We don't win that war with today's non-cow milking shitheads.

(Just to be sure, this is sarcasm. My eyes actually involuntarily rolled so hard when reading this post I almost detached my own retina).

So, USC's Tre White has entered the portal. Previously a high school verbal commitment to KU. 6'7" wing; averaged 9 pts per game. If KU misses on other wings, like Ingram should KU pursue?

I would say he isn't the most explosive athlete in the world. And he doesn't really play like a 6'7 Jalen Wilson or Kevin McCullar where they do a lot of other things really well.

I wouldn't be upset with KU if they took him, but I would get why they would pass on him.

KU Offseason Chef Bill Cooking Thread • Apr 15, 2023 02:12 PM

@AsadZ yea I mean that team had like 7 guys who logged NBA minutes right? Lol.

Rumors of Salt Lake in an expansion

2023 MLB Season - Royals • Apr 14, 2023 04:53 PM

@dylans insane. That team moves in the next 10 years.

I imagine the A’s end up in Vegas and the Rays go to like Nashville

@DCHawker said in 2023 Transfer Portal:

I asked this question of @BShark previously, but will pose it again a slightly different way. Are we missing out on guys already in and who have committed? Waiting for some we think will enter but haven't yet? Yes, there were some later entrants last year, but is there any chatter about guys yet to come in who are better than the 1400 who have already entered? Or is it something else? Ingram is a solid player. But, he isn't better than JWill and probably not Kevin. Timberlake is a solid player, but not better than Gradey. As yet, I don't see how we can make up the 45 point slack through the portal?

It’s likely that we have a worse starting 5, but a much stronger bench in 23-24. At least, that’s the way I’m seeing it play out.

Though Cuffe and the forfeited Scholly are throwing a wrench in that.

Muss has such a strong portal game.

@RockkChalkk said in 2023 Transfer Portal:

I sometimes think the 'athleticism' component is being a bit overrated. Wasn't MJ Rice some elite athlete?

Do we really want to compare 6th year seniors to some guy's freshman season? Are we replacing MJ's production with Timberlake or is it more like Gradey Dick's?

Timberlake off the bench is great. Would have easily been our best bench piece this last year. Timberlake starting gives me pause if the starters at the 3, 4 and 5 aren't pretty darn good. That is all I was trying to say.

2023 Transfer Portal • Apr 12, 2023 04:52 PM

@approxinfinity He is absolutely automatic from 3. Shot is as pure as you can find. And QUICK. Ray Allen quick release. The guy would certainly have some gravitational pull like we saw from Gradey.

I just question if he's athletic enough to do anything else of benefit at the P5 level. Won't be a good rebounder. Won't be able to go get 2 points for you off the bounce. Would probably be a liability on D.

That recipe works great for a 6th man, or a starter who only plays like 25ish minutes. I won't complain a bit if they take Timberlake. He'd bring something that this team desperately needs in a shooter. I just don't think I will expect him to be All-Conference or anything like that.

2023 Transfer Portal • Apr 12, 2023 04:41 PM

@approxinfinity I'm not sure we WANT Timberlake. We'd take Timberlake. We'd be okay with Timberlake. But I'm not sure Timberlake is a major needle mover.

Good piece as a 3rd scoring option or 20 minutes off the bench type of guy.

Vasko Portaling • Apr 11, 2023 08:47 PM

@FarmerJayhawk in a way that’s a good problem to have 🤷‍♂️

Vasko Portaling • Apr 11, 2023 08:34 PM

@FarmerJayhawk Have to love that JD is essentially the opposite of everything NFL teams look for. Short. Takes hits. Slinger more than a thrower as far as form goes.

I'd bet a lot that he's back in '24 with more of that sweet sweet Adidas cash.

Vasko Portaling • Apr 11, 2023 08:30 PM

@BShark Certainly worth a debate. I don't blame the coaches for wanting to capitalize on another potential bowl season by having a known commodity at backup.

Vasko Portaling • Apr 11, 2023 06:16 PM

?s=20

Disappointing to see him go. But I get it.

I’m not even watching

KU Baseball • Apr 10, 2023 07:00 PM

@AsadZ What an up and down season. Lost 10 of 11, then won 7 in a row.

Pretty big series for them this weekend against KSU.

2023 MLB Season - Royals • Apr 10, 2023 02:47 PM

Royals are 3-6 despite having the 7th best ERA through 9 games. But here is the kicker. 4 of the 5 starters will be UFAs this offseason... If they are out of contention in June, they need to sell off every single one of the starters if someone wants them.

Could be a crazy good haul though. So fingers crossed all of these guys can hang around the 3.00 ERA and we can trade for some top prospects. Sad that Cal Eldredge might have been the guy holding the young pitchers back.

2023 Transfer Portal • Apr 10, 2023 12:55 AM

This post is honestly just to make myself feel better about the portal.

In 2022 these players entered the portal these dates:

  • Pete Nance - 4/29
  • Keion Brooks - 4/29
  • Keyontae Johnson - 5/1
  • Matthew Mayer - 5/2
  • Jamille Reynolds - 5/6
  • Kevin McCullar 4/27
  • De'Vion Harmon - 4/26
  • KC Ndefo - 4/26
  • Baylor Scheierman - 4/24
  • Jaren Holmes - 4/23
  • Ricky Council - 4/21
  • Tre Mitchell 4/20
  • Tyrese Hunter - 4/18
  • Primo Spears - 4/18
  • Tyler Harris 4/16
  • Emoni Bates - 4/16
  • Grant Sherifeld - 4/14
  • Kendric Davis - 4/11

So there is some talent still to hit the portal that we haven't even heard a peep about. We'll know the talent pool by May 11th which is the deadline to enter the portal. So essentially one more month of backchanneling.

2023 MLB Season - Royals • Apr 07, 2023 04:37 PM

MJ needs to be moved out of the leadoff spot. Bobby Witt should be leading off.

Then I'd probably go with Olivarez, Savly and Vinnie to round out the top 4. The rest of the lineup you could pick at random.

2023 MLB Season - Royals • Apr 07, 2023 04:28 PM

@AsadZ the'yre striking out a lot, while simultaneously not hitting the ball over the fence when they do hit it. Not a great combo.

This team is going to lose 100 games. But at least they didn't tease us in April. Hopefully some guys play well enough to be traded.
