How do we refer to this situation moving forward? A Cuffe-year? Is he Cuffe-shirting?

Meh. Regardless, they evaluated Okafor as the best player available. And they were wrong.
Olivier Nkamoua picking between WVU and Baylor. KSU out.
The KSU roster did not shape up nearly as well as I was expecting. Swung for the fences in the portal and really only landed Tylor Perry.
@approxinfinity They also took Okafor in 2015 when they already had Joel and didn't need another big man that couldn't play next to Joel.
Still on the board in 2015: Prozingis, Myles Turner, Trey Lyles, Devin Booker, Cameron Payne, Kelly Oubre, Terry Rozier, Bobby Portis, Tyus Jones, and Larry Nance.
Also traded Mikal Bridges for Zhaire Smith... Mikal put up 26 ppg this year and Zhaire isn't even on a roster. Of course you can't hit on them all. But Philly really shot themselves in the foot on this one.
In the end he just didn’t show enough progress on the court at Montverde. Bill recruited over him before he stepped in campus.
It will be interesting to see if/how they replace him. I just don’t see a lot of guys jumping at the bit to get basically no minutes as the 4th guard. My expectations are low
I declare this the first KUBuckets post of summer. Out of things to talk about, clearly.
Julio is done. You’re better off giving those reps to the young guys.
It has been a minute since we had the board up in arms. Reminded me of the olden days
@rockchalkjayhawk I think Toney goes for 1200 yards this year if (admittedly a big if) he can stay healthy. If Toney is out for an extended period of time they could have some issues.

What do fans think about Hopkins?
He has been linked to Chiefs for some time.
Should Chiefs sign him?
I'm out on Hopkins. You don't give 30-year old WRs expensive and long contracts. We just won the Superbowl with a pretty mediocre set of WRs. Roll with what you've got.
TCU is a good fit. I like Dixon. Wish him the best
Didn’t Bill have to tell Doke to quit hanging in the rim over in Europe? Lol
I think Bill wins one more championship and rides off into the sunset. But we'll see. I think it is so hard for guys at the top of their field to retire in nearly any industry. I feel bad that the guy is having heart issues at his age, but he also is very wealthy. So typical timelines for heart-issues may not necessarily apply to him. Wealth has as much to do with lifespan as anything else, typically. It is why some of these rich guys can eat McDonald's 10x per week and still live into their 90s (I see you Warren Buffet).
I do think Bill will retire before he is 70.
@dylans Actually, he is now going to be the person responsible for grading and training officials I think? BUT not the ones for the B12. Doing it on the West Coast so the P12 will have to deal with mini-Higgins proteges.

With this mornings news, new line up should be
G- Harris
G- Morris
F- McCullar
F- KJ Adams
C- Dickinson
Bench (Rotation level minutes)
G- Jackson
G- Timberlake
F- Marcus Adams
Deep Bench
G- Johnson
G- McDowell
F- Braun
A rotation quality 5 should be the final piece to this puzzle.
Ugh, I am likely the only one feeling this way, but with Kevin back that is an ugly ass, non shooting starting five. Dislike. Self has brought us back to the stone age of defensive stalwarts.
We desperately need a more modern approach to that lineup.
You're not the only one. I would have preferred we landed a different player for that spot, but I do think this is still a salty lineup.
Oh i also would take Spencer over McCullar no questions asked. Better player, period.
I would prefer Spencer over Pullin. I would take Spencer even if it meant Timberlake walked bth.
@benshawks08 technically yes. .00001% chance of happening

Cam Spencer from Rutgers in the portal. Shall we?
13ppg and that golden ticket 40%+ from 3.
Stat stuffer. Would take

Shocked that cuffe ended up at a high major but good for him
"Cuffe says he chose Syracuse over interest from Richmond, Tulane, Pacific, GCU, Western Kentucky, and New Mexico State."
Per On3. Interesting group of schools there.
Cuse down so, so, so bad.
Yea I mean he's a lock to go top 15. And I don't think there is much room for him to move up. I've see him mocked as high as 7. But consensus is like 10th/11th I think.
Had to land someone willing to ride the bench. It’s not a bad signing. Just not good. Wish it was a young guy with potential rather than this but it is what it is
@Jethro To me the issue is the portal is closed. You're getting who you're getting without some serious tampering happening for a grad transfer.
We may yet land a couple of NBA dropouts, but I would just say at this very second I'm concerned.

Duke lock
Sickening tbh.
I'm really not crazy high on our starting lineup at the moment either. Even with Nelson, it is a bit concerning. The saving grace was that we would have a ton of depth. But with Udeh and Zuby out we have absolutely questionable/non-existent depth at the 3,4 and 5 spots. And with the portal closed targets are limited. If we end up with Parker Freaking Braun as backup Center I won't even know what to think.
@dylans I think you have to treat it that way if you're trying to fill out the best roster. But typically I assume putting your name in the portal means you're likely gone.
@benshawks08 said in Bye Bye Ernest:
Just saw Udeh is visiting Duke and K state. Ouch.
If he goes to Duke, someone will have to make it make sense for me. Ryan Young, Filipowski and TJ Power will be eating a ton of minutes at the 4/5. I don't see how he gets much more PT there than here. But w/e.
The KSU one would sting. Watching him play for them for the next 3 years would absolutely suck.
I'm pretty bummed to see him go, but I was hoping somewhere we wouldn't have to watch lol.
@AsadZ I would say Chiefs win at least 11 with a healthy Pat. A great shot at starting 8-0.
They probably win 13 games, but it’s still a tough schedule. Jets, Bills, Cincy, Chargers x2, Eagles and Dolphins are all going to be tough games.
@BShark That is a lot easier to work on and fix in one offseason than a shot.
@BShark Yea he may be an issue where he causes driving lane problems. But he won't be a bother for Hunter, which would be a bigger concern imo.
Also, just throwing out there that we just won a Natty with Jalen Wilson shooting .263 from deep. And he shot .210 from deep in the tourney.
The question for me is if KJ can fill the role of rebounder who can rebound and run and start the fast break. If he can, then he absolutely can play the 4 at a high level. If he can't, I think there will be some debate about his usefulness.
If he finishes at the rim at 75%, do we really need him to shoot 3s?
He's still enough of a threat that if you come off of him to double Hunter he's dunking on your ass.
I hate this type of thing. If they weren't gambling on ISU games who cares?
I think I'm just most surprised it took this long for Huggy to slip up like this.
@BShark Okay I seriously thought I was going crazy. Like if you can't even get interests from the guy what good is Adidas? lol.
But that makes a ton of sense and I would expect Hawks to make his final cut.

Not to be negative, but I’m curious. When McCullars transferred in, it was partially the “atmosphere of family” that drew him. This coming year there are 3 returning players. I’m wondering how HCBS will create that again with all the new guys. Puerto Rico will help but what the team had last year was because they bonded over a couple of years.
They also lost in the round of 32.
This years team will be better.
If they end up landing that plane, we can thank Adidas for getting involved fa sho
@BShark said in Off-season starting lineup ever changing thread:
Might have to remove Udeh from your rotation predictions. Pains me to say it. We will see.
BUMBPPPP
@approxinfinity lol well I just think its so weird how he acts compared to the guy he grew up in the exact same household with. Like how can one guy be so humble despite being one of the most famous people in the world while the other is a total dipshit. It just doesn't make sense to me
Hopefully this is his wakeup call. He's had several issues at several public places in the KC area. I have to imagine there is something going on more than the guy just being a total asshat.
How are we not in on Budinga? Adidas guy but we aren't getting a whiff?
We will be paying for Dayton's sins for another 2-3 years. They need to find a way to field a competitive team by 2025 though if they want the downtown stadium dream to come true. People will not pay for it for a 100-game perennial loser.
@TYOHawk I'm not arguing that. But it seems like that isn't happening.
Just saying, Ron Holland is 100% worth the negative recruiting that would come with giving CJ the boot. Even if it meant we were banned from getting Montverde kids for forever.
@Kcmatt7 Just saying, Kevin was almost useless at the 3pt line. I know I'm in the minority, but I think KJ is going to feast in that 4 spot.
@BShark I really think the KJ/Marcus combo is going to be just fine. KJ did average almost 11 a game last season... How often do players take a major step back scoring?
I really was surprised that Lonnie didn't get drafted after putting up the combine he did. I think he makes a roster.
@BShark I think Timberlake starting makes perfect sense. It's looking more and more like the lineup will be Juan/Morris/Timberlake/KJ/Dickinson. Then you have Elmarko/MAdams/Udeh as your main subs. That's a pretty dang good team.
I really think they have to find a way to open up a 4th spot and get another rotation piece though. Might be the difference between a Natty run and a Sweet 16.
@RockkChalkk I will root for him to do good while he's here. And hope that the staff has a good plan to keep him on the straight and narrow. I suppose I don't expect him to be a saint while he's here (he's still a "kid").
But if ANYTHING happens on campus where Morris assaults a woman, Bill Self needs to resign. Maybe Goff too. If they think Morris is in no way a risk to the women on campus then they should be willing to put their jobs on the line.
If something does happen, and Bill doesn't get forced out with it, I'll probably never watch another game in my life. That's where I stand on this whole situation.
Now, I hope Arterio is a 1st-team All-American. He has a lot of traits that will serve him well under Bill. At this very second, there is a legitimate possibility he is our leading scorer in 2023. The Juan/Elmarko/Morris backcourt is salty on paper. Should be able to really pressure the ball. This also ensures we have some talent coming off of the bench. Either Morris, Elmarko or Timberlake. Morris also brings some desperately needed shooting into the lineup. He's also a plus athlete for his size.
All of this to say, the talent is certainly intriguing.
I do think Veach gets cute with his picks at times. This year feels like that. But it’s hard to do. As long as you have Mahomes you’ll be competitive.
