@kuballin10 the point is that Bill has to
Settle vs getting who he wants.
Makes the margin for error a bit more slim. Duke gets to bring 1st round picks off the bench lol

I honestly feel for the Pac12. None of this makes any sense. We have had our fair share of being poached and it isn't fun.
The issue continues to be TV money. TV money is what has destroyed college conferences. What I don't really understand is why the P5 conferences simply didn't come together and negotiate all deals together. Keep the conferences with a reasonable travel schedule and traditional rivalries.
Instead it is nothing but backstabbing. And it is such a disservice to the fans.
Being Adidas blows. Being the 3rd favorite Nike school would get us better players than the top Adidas. No doubt in my mind.
@Texas-Hawk-10 The trip they represented the U.S. was televised for sure. Can't forget Selden absolutely rocking rims on that trip.
Haven't UK's been televised? I feel like they have been but I could be wrong.
I think Chris Jones is 29. Likely his best football will be behind him in 2 years. He’s under contract this season and then he has two years of Franchise Tag in his future.
Not sure he has a lot of leverage. Not sure the Chiefs benefit from giving him a deal. So to me the Chiefs can play hardball and should.
I think he plays this year under his current deal and then he gets a new deal after the season. Either with the Chiefs or through a tag and trade.
I'm just disappointed it won't be televised... Real bummer
Bill's record despite the insane non-con schedule he plays every year is incredible.
@Texas-Hawk-10 yea that’s why I said either or.
It’ll be interesting to see who comes back next year.
Theoretically should have Juan, KJ, Dickinson and one of Jackson/Morris back. McDowell and Clemence back on the bench.
Really only room for one starter and one real bench piece right?
Lol this article was so damn funny to read from start to finish with all of the additional context out there from Vern and others.
@BShark Yea he can rebound and seems to make the best basketball play a lot. Which gets you on the floor early.
LOL. What a joke
@FarmerJayhawk said in Celebrity Encounters at KU:
@Texas-Hawk-10 yep, this is 100% accurate. Not only did the players want him gone, the boosters did too. He was not liked by literally anyone at KU by the end. When you’re a middle manager and lose the people below and above you, it’s over. And honestly I think now he knows it. You don’t see him talking trash about KU like you saw Leach (RIP Pirate) talk about Tech.
There was some issues with recruiting local high school guys too with him (not that it improved after he left) and that would have been a problem sooner or later.
There are rumors about some stuff Bill has done or said to players at KU that certainly would raise eyebrows. Especially in 2023.
99% of college coaches are total assholes. At essentially all levels. NAIA, D1, D2, D3. Doesn't matter.
@FarmerJayhawk said in 2023 Season Predictions:
@approxinfinity Lonnie is the big one. If he would’ve come back I’d say we’d push top 3 in the league
Yea that one was tough. And for him to not get drafted made it even worse to watch him go. More than his sacks, where we will miss him is 11.5 tackles for loss. He had the ability to single-handedly get the defense off the field. That will be very tough to replace.
@Crimsonorblue22 Certainly an issue. But good head coaches at that level have to be exceptional delegators anyways. Crazy to think he may actually lose his whole foot.
I have literally no idea how it is going to turn out for him. He took 51 (YES FIFTY ONE) commits in the transfer portal. How that is within the rules I have no idea. But what a phenomenon. I don't think it is fair to say the coaching is better in one spot or the other necessarily. The talent level is definitely down. But is isn't like he underperformed with his talent or something.
Personally, I think Shedur Sanders will be a very good quarterback. His level of competition was down, but he's also throwing to players at that same level. His arm strength is as good as anyone in college football. Even if his stats go from 40 TDs to 30 TDs and his INT numbers go from 6 to 10, that is still an explosive offense.
They may only win 4 games, but it would still be an incredible turnaround to even do that. Colorado was absolutely David Beaty Jayhawks bad last season. I'm guessing they will win 5 or 6. They absolutely have to win one of the first two though against TCU and Nebraska to make that happen.
@dylans I mean if the goal is to keep expectations low so you aren't disappointed, this is certainly the best approach. I just don't see a team returning this many starters on both sides of the ball regressing that badly.
@FarmerJayhawk NIL win for KU for sure. Adidas is getting a pretty damn good return on that investment though.
I definitely don't think the Illinois game is a gimme. But I do like the matchup. I'd much prefer we play a game against a good defensive team that struggles to score than a team that can put up 50.
And from a prediction standpoint, I'll give us the edge for playing at home. But it is likely a one score game.
@FarmerJayhawk If the 2016-2018 Buffalo trend continues, I think an improved defense should be expected. I have a feeling the hurry-up offense won't kill us nearly as badly this season. You saw it absolutely kill us with UT and OU.
Going to be very interesting to see how the DL plays. So many transfers. Booker with huge upside. Phillips should provide us with a solid NT. I'll be curious to see what we get out of Keys and Booker. I think Joyner offers you solid depth. We know what we have with Robinson. Really need the depth of Withers/Hatcher/Taylor/Dunn to take a step forward though. It would be a good sign if the only transfer that starts is Phillips.
Another underrated upgrade I think we'll see this season is a vastly improved kicking game. Very interested to see how Greaves does and what moving to an Aussie style punter will do for coverage and pinning teams deep. And Keller could have a career worst season and still be a significant upgrade at kicker...
@FarmerJayhawk Giving up 200 a game on the ground makes it hard to win games no doubt. I'm optimistic that a full offseason to try to address that will end up yielding good results.
@Texas-Hawk-10 Would love to see you lay out a W/L game by game.
For me, I just think the defense gave up the 7th most PPG in all of CFB last year. They literally can't be any worse.
@Texas-Hawk-10 I think the way you're looking at the schedule makes sense.
At the same time, if the team takes a step forward this year, I think the schedule lends itself to a big season. Getting to play conference opponents you think you can beat at home (KSU/TTU/OU) and having a pretty soft road schedule gives them a good shot at 8 wins.
I got season tickets this year for the first time. Pretty darn excited to see how it goes.... Below is my W/L projection.
9-3 Regular season.
I really think an 8 or 9 win season happens. The schedule falls PERFECTLY for that to happen. I think they can play ball with OU, TTU, and KSU at home. OSU needs Bowman to be the answer at QB, and I just don't feel like he scares me all that much. Genuinely, every single game except for UT on the road feels like a game we could win this year.
My hopes are definitely too high right now, but man a good season would catapult this program to places it has never been.
Imagine JD staying healthy the whole season, and the Defense not giving up 35ppg again.
8 or 9 wins and a Heisman finalist is a legitiamate possibility.
Now they just need to have a good season on the field and secure this class in December
If they land Boganowski too (assuming everyone signs) this defense could really turn into something in a few years.
BUMMMMMMP.
Jordan Peterson on the heater of a lifetime with Dak Brinkley.
I got to be at the B-Mac bank in 3 against ISU. It was over break so I actually got to sit like 6 rows up. Then somehow we ended up partying with B-Mac later at those apartments by the Walmart.
Great night.
@BeddieKU23 So glad we missed on him in '18

Slater already dropping Tre Mitchell to UK
Vernon dropped the renderings on the Twitter.
People seem unhappy that we might reduce capacity to like 40k. But if we can't fill 47k (and season ticket sales, while way up, aren't up enough) I don't see why we would want a larger stadium. Build a "sold out" atmosphere. Not to mention that 40k people is still a ton of people for the objectively 3rd best football option in the area. And finally I'm sure that part of the construction plans would be to allow for more seats if they were needed.
I will admit the parking situation based on the renderings looks like it could be chaos.
They need to figure out a plan for tailgating, but to me that is super simple. Push everyone to the hill and allow setup Friday Night.
Just happy to see the continuing to push out PR on this project. Has to happen.
I do not think Udeh is a snake. A lot of people in the kids ear. Give him a break.
By every other measure the guy was a great player for us a year ago and I really wish he was still on the roster.
@TYOHawk said in ZACH CLEMENCE COMING BACK?:
The article recently released by the KC Star was kind of weird. His mom hinted he could redshirt and then transfer if things don’t go right. Also mentioned he was going to play the 4 at UCSB and get the offense built around him.
If things don't go right we'll be happy to see him transfer I think. Again, I don't see him as a P5 guy without him putting in just a shit ton of work. I don't think it is necessarily basketball skill holding him back as much as just not being athletic enough for this level of basketball. Only complete and total dedication to changing his body and how it moves will get him on the court at the P5 level.

“I knew it was kind of a no-no, but there’s not a rule saying it can’t happen,” Steve Lemke said. “There’s not a law saying I’m going to go to jail for doing something like this. There’s nothing in stone. I guess it’s just an ethics code, like we frown upon it, but there’s no rule, there’s no law broken.”
Mark it down, Bucketeers. This ol man is speechless.
lol there are some all-time quotes in that article.... What a goober.
@AsadZ said in Meanwhile down in Nacogdoches:
Why do people do such things?
I thought the craziest thing was the idea of this family living off of one bowling coaches salary lol.
And then the idea that the guy was coaching unofficially for awhile.
AND THEN the school attempting to circumvent nepotism laws by having the associate bowling coach “report” to someone other than the head bowling coach.
There are at least 3 people who should lose their jobs here. If not more.
Dak Brinkley is probably my top guy they are currently in on. Seems like a guy who could be on the field early.
All info from 247, but they've got 3 DL on campus right now. I think Panagos is the lead on all of them. Huge weekend for him.
Could Bill Self compete for a D2 National Championship with our Walk-ons this year?
Wilhite/Evers/Cross/Jank/Cassidy seems like a salty bunch.
KU really pushing to have a top 50 class in '24. The way things are trending a good season pretty much locks this in. DB room is going to be very good. RB room continues to be strong. I think they like their LBs.
What's left is finding some WR talent and the big uglies on both sides of the ball. Has routinely been a challenge for KUFB. Luckily the transfer portal has made this a lot easier (imo).
@BShark lmao I mean how could you accuse Rick Pitino of breaking a rule? He would never.
Simeon Wilcher ends up at St. John's.
Rick had a fantastic offseason. Lots of scoring on that team. They will compete for the Big East title imo.
LL just sees the big picture and actually executes on it. Just a phenomenal hire thus far. Have to hope we can keep him.
The KU Walk-ons may be the best group of walk-ons in the country lol.
Will be interesting to see what happens with the Topeka kid.
I don't like the Mexico City game. I don't really understand it if I'm being honest. What is the commercial benefit? Is Mexico City really going to watch amateur basketball?
Obviously I could be very wrong. Perhaps Houston has a very loyal alumni base in Mexico City that I'm unaware of.
@rockchalkjayhawk said in PGA/LIV golf ... something:
Yup, agreed on those points. They asked Rory to step up, and he did. To his detriment, he admitted. Was taking away time from his actual game, and practice.
Effed.
I just don't understand this "merger" at all. They should have let the Saudis run wild for a year or two, then realized they had nothing to show for it.
There is some speculation that the lawsuits filed by LIV would have hurt the PGA and jeopardized their 501c3 status.
Unlikely we find out what actually caused the PGA to cave. I agree they could have just told LIV to pound rocks for another few years and it would have died.
Yea the details are still vague.
PGA Tour absolutely f*cked over Rory, Rahm, Zalatoris and others. Could have taken paydays of hunderds of millions of dollars. Instead they didn't, and the PGA used them as a mouthpiece only to jump into bed with the Saudi's in the end anyways.
I personally never took a stance. If someone offered me 50x my salary to do 60% of my current job I'm taking it. I don't blame any of the guys who did. I feel bad for the tour players who were used and abused here. And once again Golf is essentially a monopoly rendering the players powerless if they want to get a payday.
How they structure the new tour is going to be very, very, very interesting. Rumors of "teams" owned by sponsors and a lot more events being played all over the world like F1. Not sure how they organize that with all of the player's individual sponsorships, but nothing that can't be figured out.
@BeddieKU23 Slater and others saying there are rumors they lose another. The twitterverse is convinced it is Ian Jackson. The hottest of the rumors is that Jackson reclasses and is either a Kentucky Wildcat or a fighting Pitino.
Simeon Wilcher will NOT be going to UNC.
Rumor is they will also be losing Ian Jackson who will reclass to '23 and be a Kentucky Wildcat.
