@BShark Give Malik his phone number. Let Malik tell him what it is like when you have nobody around you to help you do your thing vs. when you are surrounded by top tier talent. Which one actually showcases your skills better?

Thoughts on the victory vs Fizzou • Oct 23, 2017 08:09 PM

Doke with only 2 fouls and made it 27 minutes against some quality big men. That is great to see.

Now the other two bigs... Not so great. Bill said he would like to see us play big 70% of the time. I'm just not sure that is going to be possible if BP and ML can't guard without fouling. It makes me think we could be better off going 4-guards at least 50% of the time.

The reason I say that, if we go in with the game plan that we want to play big and then Doke or BP get in early foul trouble our game plan probably just went right out of the window. Where, if we start with 4 guards, we are so deep that even if someone were to get hurt or in foul trouble we have someone else who can come in and play. Then, those stretches where we are struggling to make shots, we can still always do the good ole Bill Self two-big high-low, feed the post non-stop as a backup plan. I mean that is in our guys DNA at this point right? We can always revert back to the normal High-Low offense. I think it is probably much harder to switch from a High-Low gameplan in the middle of a game to a 4 out drive and dish offense. Where, I feel the reverse is much easier to do when the High-Low has been pounded into everyone's heads for basically 2 seasons at the very least.

Thoughts on the victory vs Fizzou • Oct 23, 2017 07:56 PM

@BeddieKU23 No excuse for Doke to not get 10+ rebounds every single game.

Texas Christian Horned Frogs • Oct 23, 2017 04:27 PM

Can Stark play? How complex of a play action system do we have installed currently? Because if we can run the ball effectively and spin a ton of Play action off of it, the offense just might get going again. And the offense has to get going again or else the defense has no chance.

Thoughts on the victory vs Fizzou • Oct 23, 2017 01:59 PM

Great learning experience. Great environment to be in this early in the season. Especially before we go to Chicago in less than a month where it will be a very similar crowd environment. Glad nobody got hurt. Glad it raised over $1.75M. Glad to see that Doke very well may be impossible to stop for stretches of games. Glad to see Billy and Doke learn they need to rebound better. Pissed that we missed on Tilmon because he looks pretty dang good.

This was a win-win-win-win. We won the game. We got a practice game in that we now have good film to watch. And it raised a ton of money. It also inspired a ton of other charity basketball games to get played all over the country.

Are we done recruiting? • Oct 23, 2017 01:51 PM

@BeddieKU23 I think he could be a great College 4. From what I've read, Hurt scores the ball efficiently inside and rebounds well. He also brings a 35% shot from trey to the table to top it off.

TBH, doesn't a guy who is a stretch 4 with near wing-like athleticism fit exactly what college bball/Bill Self is moving towards? As long as he can slide his feet and they don't look like they are tied to Cinder Blocks like Carlton's were, I think he will be a very good player. CB had the lateral quickness of a crocodile and the leg strength of a newborn baby which led to an inability to get open. You have to have at least one of those things (strength or quickness) to be able to score at the college level and he had neither. So, providing Hurt has the ability to move his feet, I think he can probably be a guy who scores at 3 levels.

Should be able to play it on your laptop and just plug it into your tv using an HDMI cord.

Border War to start back up?? • Oct 20, 2017 09:40 PM

@JayHawkFanToo That is possible, I don't know about the prices before they were going to be offered to the general public. I do know that $40 was going to be the cheapest you could get public tickets though.

Sixers vs Wizards On ESPN • Oct 20, 2017 09:37 PM

@JayHawkFanToo I'll have to check that out. I haven't heard of that one.

Sixers vs Wizards On ESPN • Oct 20, 2017 08:38 PM

@JayHawkFanToo Only if you have the App on your computer. The free browser app doesn't force you to use your computer.

I have used it dozens of times and have not had a single issue. Maybe a slightly worse picture quality, but something is better than nothing.

Border War to start back up?? • Oct 20, 2017 08:35 PM

@JayHawkFanToo I think it would have sold out. But, they didn't plan to stream it originally. And advertised it that they wouldn't stream it. So to make it less than the cost of a ticket could possibly piss people off who only bought a ticket because they were told several times that it wasn't going to be on TV.

I am not arguing that the price should be lower. I think it should. I am not arguing that they wouldn't have sold out. I think they would have.

I just think they are trying to be fair. Nobody gets to witness this game for less than $40.

I don't agree with it. But I do see the logic behind it.

Border War to start back up?? • Oct 20, 2017 06:18 PM

@JayHawkFanToo I think the cost has to do with the price of tickets. You risk pissing off donors if you have the PPV be less than the cost of a ticket when you originally advertised that it wouldn't be televised.

Are we done recruiting? • Oct 20, 2017 06:15 PM

@BeddieKU23 Can the NCAA rule him ineligible without any actual hard proof? I mean until these cases have gone to trial, the evidence will most likely remain hidden.

If I was Tubby at Memphis or Archie at IU, I'd take him in a heart beat. Nobody will care if all the games get forfeited at the end of the season as long as you have a good season.

Border War to start back up?? • Oct 20, 2017 04:27 PM

I plan on buying it with a group of friends and just split the cost 4 or 5 ways.

Border War to start back up?? • Oct 20, 2017 03:56 PM

I was wondering how much. Had to be $40 or else people who bought $40 tickets because it wouldn't be televised might have gotten upset.

Chorfs • Oct 20, 2017 02:35 PM

@dylans Not the defense giving up a 4th and 11 that would have won the game? Or the blatant pass interference not called on Oakland's first TD? Or the phantom illegal contact on Allen Bailey's incredible strip? Or the late hit on Peter's that wasn't late that led to a Raider's score? Or the offensive line again not being able to run for 100 yards? Or the defense giving up over 400 yards passing? Or that the Defense had 0 sacks last night?

Nope. It was Alex's fault that he couldn't complete a 3rd and 4 pass with 3 minutes left when the rest of the game he converted on half of his 3rd downs, completed 70% of his passes, threw for 342 yards and 3 TDs.

Screw it. Bench him. Put in Mahomes. It doesn't even matter that Alex is putting up MVP numbers. He SUCKS.

Chorfs • Oct 20, 2017 02:17 PM

@kjayhawks Dorsey's refusal to use the Franchise Tag has always dumbfounded me. Did the same thing with Houston. Last year on contract, he takes the "prove it" stance. And then follows that up without franchise tagging them and forcing them to keep proving that they should be worth an outrageous contract.

Chorfs • Oct 20, 2017 04:17 AM

@kjayhawks didn't even try to address the position this offseason. Gaines shouldn't be in the NFL. Murray and Sorenson can't cover a TE. Peters is just doing whatever he feels like. Its ugly.

Sixers vs Wizards On ESPN • Oct 20, 2017 01:47 AM

@kjayhawks If you run it off of your phone or laptop, you can change your VPN and watch the games that way.

Tyler Herro • Oct 19, 2017 11:00 PM

@BShark doesn’t look like a lot of PT available for him here. Would be like the Grayson Allen of the Okafor, Jones, Winslow class.

Sixers vs Wizards On ESPN • Oct 19, 2017 09:25 PM

@JayHawkFanToo Depending on where you live, you can probably get cable for just October and November for those few games. Then drop it and pay for just internet. Sling seems like a fantastic option as does the new PlayStation Vue. Playstation Vue gets NFL Redzone.

Hell, you can probably get both, a Netflix and HBO subscription for the same price as a monthly cable bill tbh.

Are we done recruiting? • Oct 19, 2017 04:12 PM

@BShark Have to land either Zion or Langford in order to be a real NC contender next season in my opinion. Gives us length and depth at the 1-3 spots. It would amaze me if we couldn't land a Wing after what we have done with JJ, Wigs, BMac and Rush. And hopefully Vick or Svi can play themselves into the 1st round.

Are we done recruiting? • Oct 19, 2017 03:29 PM

@BShark I think the cousin ends up at UK too, but I do expect the staff to at least make a push.

I personally don't like, well pretty much any of my cousins. So it might actually be working against us to have them in this one particular scenario lol.

Are we done recruiting? • Oct 19, 2017 01:54 PM

@JayHawkFanToo I do. Of course that mostly depends on landing recruits. Without Zion, basically assume any minutes he would have had at the 3 would go to Garrett if he doesn't come here.

The thing that will be interesting is how much KJ Lawson plays. We are obviously going to be recruiting the two younger Lawson's and their cousin. Dedric is basically booked for 25-30 minutes guaranteed. But KJ might not even see the floor depending on what all happens. And that could really make recruiting interesting.

Are we done recruiting? • Oct 18, 2017 09:24 PM

@BeddieKU23 If I was KU, I'd be as transparent as possible in the Zion recruitment and give them 4 or 5 different projected depth charts, ranked from the most likely to the least likely and where he would fit in those.

Scenario #1:
- PG - Dotson 25 MPG - Moore 15 MPG
- SG - Grimes 25 MPG- Garrett 10 MPG
- SF - Zion 30 MPG - Garrett 10 MPG - Cunliffe - 0 MPG
- PF - Lawson 28 MPG - De Sousa 10 MPG- Lawson 2 MPG - Lightfoot
- C - Doke 25 PMG - Big Dave 12 MPG - De Sousa - 3 MPG

Scenario #2 -
- PG - Dotson 25 MPG - Moore 15 MPG
- SG - Grimes 25 MPG - Langford 10 MPG - Garrett 5 MPG
- SF - Langford 20 MPG - Zion 10 MPG - Garrett 10 MPG - Cunliffe 0 MPG
- PF - Zion 20 MPG - De Sousa 15 MPG - Lawson 5 MPG - Lightfoot 0 MPG
- C - Lawson 28 MPG - Big Dave 12 MPG

Scenario #3-
- PG - Dotson 20 MPG - Moore 20 MPG
- SG - Vick 20 MPG - Garrett 12 MPG - Dotson - 5 MPG
- SF - Zion 20 MPG - Garrett 10 MPG - Vick 10 MPG - Cunliffe 0 MPG
- PF - De Sousa 20 MPG - Zion 10 MPG - Lawson 5 MPG - Lawson 5 MPG - Lightfoot - 0 MPG

- SF - Vick 18 MPG - Zion 12 MPG - Garrett 10 MPG - Cunliffe 0 MPG
- PF - Zion 18 MPG - Lawson 11 MPG - De Sousa 11 MPG - Lawson 0 MPG- Lightfoot 0 MPG
- C - Doke 23 MPG - Lawson 8 MPG - Big Dave 9 MPG

Either way, there is room for Zion and Self does a great job of showcasing Wings/4s. B-Mac, T-Rob, Wiggs, JJ, Selden, Oubre, Rush, Releford (12 ppg and 40%+ from trey his Senior year), Arthur and the Morris Twins all are examples of Self being able to exploit mismatches at the spot Zion will be playing. Nobody else recruiting him has that same resume.

If this were a 5 or a PG, Duke and UK probably have the edge resume-wise. But this is Bill's sweet spot. I like our chances.

Are we done recruiting? • Oct 18, 2017 08:35 PM

@BShark Like I said, 6'5 guys. Not Brady, Tyrell or Frank. They do enough things well that when they aren't making shots they can still impact the game. But when a shooter isn't even shooting well and then getting beat on D and Self is in their ear, I can understand why they break down.

As far as Svi goes, I think he has the skillset to do more offensively than he has. With that being said, he takes twice as many 3 balls as he does 2 point shots... So he has been in that role. And hasn't been bad, but just hasn't been great.

I loved AWIII. One of my favorite players who I think just got a raw deal. Worked out for him in the end it looks like. He was given every opportunity at a premier program and landed with the Celtics.

But long story short, there is somewhat of a trend... I think Herro will need to be able to play some D or score at multiple levels in order to succeed under Self.

Are we done recruiting? • Oct 18, 2017 08:22 PM

@BShark It would be hard to make a case against that. I'm definitely one of those "bird in the hand" types of guys.

However, I have my reservations about 6'5 sharp shooters in Self's system. Svi has not looked like we expected, BG was ran out of town, Andrew White was recruited right over, Alex Galindo didn't last, Giddens was never consistent before his incident, and Micah Downs bolted. It is almost like Self's break them down to build them up approach doesn't work with guys who are just shooters because their psyche is more fragile or something.

Are we done recruiting? • Oct 18, 2017 07:54 PM

@BShark I would think so as well, but Cal defie$ logic $ometime$.

Are we done recruiting? • Oct 18, 2017 07:48 PM

Oh, and how Knox does. If UK really really struggles and Knox sucks up the place and falls to like 20s and Diallo can't shoot and has to stay another year, why in the world would Zion's family trust Cal to get their kid to the NBA as a Wing?

Are we done recruiting? • Oct 18, 2017 07:44 PM

@BeddieKU23 I think Zion is a wait until the Spring guy.

A lot of factors are going to be playing in to his decision. Obviously, it all depends on who comes back next season and who is signed between now and then. This reminds me of the Wiggins recruitment a lot. UK was in it with Wiggins and was probably the favorite at one point. But UK kept signing guys. And kept signing guys. And kept signing guys. Had an 8 man class, Wiggins would have made 9. I wouldn't have wanted to go play at UK either if I was him and trying to be the #1 overall pick.

Right now, I could see UK or KU doing the same thing. If KU lands Langford and Grimes before Zion decides, I'm confident he is UK bound.

If UK lands Grimes and KJ before Zion decides, I think Zion is KU bound.

If Doke or Vick return, I think Zion is UK bound.

If Gabriel or Richards returns, I think Zion is KU bound.

If UK lands Barrett, Zion to KU looks like a damn near done deal.

If UK and KU both end up too loaded, I think Zion might actually stay home and play for Clemson.

I mean there is just a lot for him to think about. And until it all plays out, I just don't see that decision coming soon.

Not to mention, the shoe deals that are going on in the background as we speak. Let's not pretend like Adidas and Nike reps aren't finding a way to communicate with him through back-channels and agents.

Tyler Herro • Oct 18, 2017 06:11 PM

I'm not sure the likelihood we even get involved seriously when you start to project our lineup and minutes out at the guard spot. However, I would love to land this kid.

6'5 white guy shooter has Duke written all over him though...

Border War to start back up?? • Oct 14, 2017 05:28 PM

@mayjay Thank you. @KUSTEVE I'm ok with a different opinion if the opinion were as simple as, I'd prefer to play someone else because I think it would made just as much money.

I have then made the point that KU vs. MU is the most likely to make the most money on short notice and work logistically. Nobody has made a point to counter that and provided support for that claim. Some have said WSU. I think WSU would have been great. I think it would have been very close to a sellout. But I'm not as confident that it would be as I am with MU. Being as how MU has a larger fan base in KC than WSU and more alumni. So I think the safer bet to sell out the arena would be to play MU.

I like the idea of playing at the Phog. But, if the Arena space is donated at Sprint Center, and we can squeeze in another 2k people which raises even more money than we could in Allen, it only makes sense to have it at the Sprint Center.

Border War to start back up?? • Oct 14, 2017 05:17 PM

@mayjay That's right. Forgot about that.

Border War to start back up?? • Oct 14, 2017 05:14 PM

@dylans Yea that isn't any better lol. I'll edit my post above.

Border War to start back up?? • Oct 14, 2017 05:10 PM

@dylans So Bill Self is Hitler in this scenario?

Just to keep a list of things that have been said.

  • This game has been compared to Lawrence being burned to the ground and the murdering of 200 people.
  • Bill Self has now been compared to Hitler.
  • We would rather play a game against the North Koreans than Mizzou.

Edit: Sorry, apparently MU not Bill Self was compared to Hitler. Where it says Bill Self in my post above, please read MU.

Border War to start back up?? • Oct 14, 2017 03:32 PM

@drgnslayr If we lose, we lose. Hasn't WSU been calling us the Chickenhawks for years? Recruiting still seems fine. Program seems to be humming along like usual.

I do think it needs to be brought back at some point. But I'm not sure now is the time to officially, officially bring it back. If we don't bring it back soon enough though, it could be a rivalry that is lost. Which would be sad in my opinion. I think one Mizzou is a decent program again, it would only benefit us recruiting in KCMO and STL to whoop their a** every year.

I just think we need to wait until basically everyone who was involved with both universities during Mizzou's switch to the SEC is gone. At that point, I think everyone should be able to bury the hatchet.

Border War to start back up?? • Oct 14, 2017 03:28 PM

@dylans What if the idea never came to Bill until just recently? Someone said his dad was the one to suggest it. If you feel it is insincere there is probably nothing that can be said to change your mind and I'll gladly agree to disagree now that I understand your point of view better.

And I think that there is the assumption that, if you want to just donate, you should. But this is an attempt to get money from those who otherwise wouldn't donate.

An immodest proposal • Oct 14, 2017 03:22 PM

@BShark I don't like the time limit idea either. But I would like them to attempt to move games a little bit faster. I think an electronic strike zone would take minutes off of a game. Just from players and managers needlessly arguing balls and strikes and getting tossed for it and then throwing fits that cause delays. I think the replays should be done in 30 seconds or less. If you can't tell in 30 seconds, call on the field stands. Changes like these would speed it up just a little. Honestly, I just want baseball played as much as possible without watching wasted time. I'd like a rule where managers can't leave the dugout anymore. No more mound visits to stall. No going out and throwing a tantrum. If a manager leaves the dugout and goes onto the field, he's suspended for 5 games automatically. Have you ever seen a manager argue a call and it get reversed? Not challenged a call on replay, but actually argue one with the umpire and win? Nope. So cut that part out of the game.

Border War to start back up?? • Oct 14, 2017 03:18 PM

@dylans I would have been for WSU as well. And would have gone to that game too. But, I still don't think it would have sold out for as much per ticket in a weeks time. Which would have meant it raised less money. Which is the only aspect I care about when it is all said and done. What team can we play that allows us to donate the most money. And I just feel like Mizzou is actually that team on short notice.

I don't want to play Mizzou in a regular season game. At all. But this, I can put my hatred aside.

An immodest proposal • Oct 14, 2017 03:05 PM

@BShark Pent up aggression apparently.

An immodest proposal • Oct 14, 2017 03:04 PM

@globaljaybird Gotcha. Well I would think that a time limit might actually help them figure out exactly how much beer to buy and get a more accurate number on what they think they can sell in a game. Right? I could definitely be wrong on this.

Are we done recruiting? • Oct 14, 2017 03:02 PM

Being able to bring Big Dave and De Sousa off the bench would be absolutely amazing.

I still can't believe the start to this recruiting season. Closing guys we actually want is a strange feeling. I'm used to those 3 or 4 misses, Matt Scott telling me we will get guy #5 because we prioritized him and that was who the staff actually wanted all along and then missing on them and taking option #6. At least lately that has been the feeling.

Border War to start back up?? • Oct 14, 2017 02:57 PM

@dylans Ok, but run the logistics of those suggestions through your head now. Do 16k people drop what they are doing next week to watch UMKC vs KU? Probably not. Can't get big donors to even show up for games they probably paid $1k a ticket for early in the season.

You have to keep it close enough that teams bus in. And the only other team that could sell out Sprint Center and bus in so that way both teams can keep a normal practice schedule is MU.

Are we done recruiting? • Oct 14, 2017 02:50 PM

Time to sell the 4 guard look to Zion and Langford. Zion is going to play the 4 in the NBA too IMO and I think he knows it. If he does in fact grow the couple of inches he is expected to, definitely a 4. That makes me feel even better about how we used JJ last year. There is still room for both Zion and Langford. Just not Zion and Langford and Vick.

Border War to start back up?? • Oct 14, 2017 02:42 PM

@dylans But how can you raise as much money as possible?

"The opportunity to make an impact on those suffering as result of the hurricanes, through the game of basketball, is a great opportunity for our program," Kansas coach Bill Self said. "How can we raise money to send to others? To me that trumped everything else that we could possibly do."

Bill says exactly how I feel on this subject. And unless you can find me a way for a surefire $1M to be raised in a weeks time, maybe you should think about your own stance on it.

I just don't understand how an untelevised practice game is selling our soul. I would like to be enlightened though, if you could help me with that? Maybe I just don't see your side of it. I do in fact hate Mizzou. But, I do my best to not let emotion make my decisions in life. This game being played is logical from my viewpoint. I would like to understand yours if you could list out the reasons that you do not want this game played with an explanation. Feel free to write as long of a post as you need to be able to articulate your views, because I'll be more than happy to read it.

@KUSTEVE UMKC wouldn't have sold out in a weeks time. Can't sell out Georgia at the Sprint Center with months and months of notice. And you couldn't sell court side seats to it for $1,000ish a pop.

Border War to start back up?? • Oct 14, 2017 02:24 PM

@dylans I had no idea there were so many people here that are against donating money to charity. Talk about showing true colors.

Posted this earlier. The City doesn't run the Sprint Center. It is ran by another company. The City doesn't pay for the Sprint Center using funds made at Sprint Center. Instead it uses funds from a hotel and rental car tax.

The deal the City has set up is this: AEG Worldwide operates the arena. They get the first 16% of whatever gets made. Then it is a 50-50 split on the remaining 84% at the end of the year. City gets no say on if AEG would like to donate this as a charity game or not.

And, the tickets will average closer to $100 a pop when it is all said and done. That is $1,800,000 before they pay anyone. Even if they have to pay police and staff, they are looking at $1M. And, Bill said that he thinks this will raise $1M.

How does this game effect KU in any way. How does this game prop up MU in any way? The game won't even be televised Nationally. It is almost literally a pickup game that will be televised.
