@wissoxfan83 Naaaah, without even looking at the article, Coach Self's best big recruit should be Embiid. He only stayed one season at KU so he didnt have the impact Perry has had. But, Perry really isnt a big, he is a stretch 4 like Niang. Aldrich, Trob, Darnell, Shady, Kaun, Withey. ALl those guys are better "bigs"

@jaybate-1.0 Agreed. But also, our guys have to be rested and healed up a bit before Madness time. Maybe Coach tosses the coin on this game and saves to goods for later this month?

@jaybate-1.0 From the moment I saw you mention the term "Bad Ball" as a new way of attack and defense, I never considered it a criticism. I believe you described it as a being weaponized by Coach Self. I can understand weaponized with my military background. I like it.
This years team has not outscored opponents, they have out lasted them mentally and physically despite major disadvantages sometimes. They are the definition of tough. It kind of reminds me of the 2012 FF team. But they were Senior laden with experience.
These guys? I dont know. I mean, I think the prize fighter analogy is perfect. I dont know what KU's margin of victory has been this year but its way below the 08 team and most likely below the '12 team too. They arent a wolf pack of stone cold killers. They are more singular than that. They are tough and they almost are like Joe Frazier. They like getting knocked down. They just get back up and dare the other team to do it again, then at the last minute, the last possible second, they deliver the unexpected knock out punch.
It makes my hair turn grey, it gives me heart burn and situational anxiety. But thats all I think about when I'm grooving on the KU team this year. These guys are tough. Way tougher than last year.
I saw a post from Frank Mason yesterday. He said " They said we wouldnt make it happen, we didnt have enough talent to get it done. Keep telling us what we cant do. #WeLoveIt
Those guys will not go out easily, without a knock down drag out fight to the final buzzer in the Madness this season. They will fight and keep on fighting. I can see it.
Side note: I hope Coach Self gives them enough time to heal up and be ready. I dont much care if they do not win the conference tourney this season.

@drgnslayr Thats what Im sayin! Him AND his team have had to endure the doubting and naysaying and flat out disregard for the whole season. They proved everyone wrong. The kicker is, I think, they need to make some noise in the madness before he could get COY.

Anyways, given that Coach Self will probly retire at KU, when the vacancy happens, it'll be many years of experience for Danny, who will be in his prime by then I assume. Manning is also a much bigger draw for 5 star recruits, guard or big. I dont know this for fact, its just opining.

@KUinLA No other coach in the modern history of College Basketball has done what Coach Self has done except for Legendary Coach Wooden. Coach Self will absolutely get at least one more national title before he is done coaching. Just wait for it.

They WILL come out of it. It will happen. With a pure shooter like Greene especially, there is no way he will keep missing shots for long.

@wissoxfan83 Im holding out hope for a decent run in the big dance based on what @jaybate-1.0 said. Something to the rather long winded effect of playing bad ball as a weapon. ;) And, also that maybe Coach Self is using that genius level understanding of the game he has to work on some plays JUST for the final part of the season. To get our 6 trey gunners better shots when we need them.
I think a 2 seed is our ceiling for this year. Now that we have an 11th straight conference champ guaranteed, I think a 2 seed is locked regardless of our performance in the big 12 tourney, especially if we clinch it out right tonight against WVU.
The NCAA's are a different monster, clearly.
Its all about match up advantages. Its a two game tourney every week. Its win or go home.
I have to say that I believe this team is tougher and more battle tested than it was last season. These guys are not afraid of playing against the Nike stacks like they were early in the season. I think @jaybate-1.0 has something in his theory he wrote about earlier. I think KU has the guts and the grime to win more than 2 games in the NCAAs this season.

@REHawk The conference tourney just became a lot less important. KU pretty much has a 2 seed locked up regardless of their performance in it. I cant believe that Coach Self will go full out with his guys just to win that tourney and lose steam later this month.

I actually wanna know. I mean, the kid is a beast. The strongest ever? For real? I mean, Tyrel Reed wasn't the most athletic kid on the team but he was one of the strongest. @DoubleDD Interesting take. I think that KU would have trouble with all the Nike stacks ie; Arizona, UK, Duke. Wisconsin is scary bcuz they have loads of experience, tough team. Virginia, I ditto what you said. Nova? I just cant stand Jay Wright so Im completely biased against them. They wont even make it to the sweet 16. Gonzaga? Same, but I dont hate them. They just havent played anybody tough and it will cost them later this month.
I hope against hope that UK overlooks a very tough and battle tested mid major team and gets beat in the second round or so, anywhere before the Final Four. I hate them the way Gollum hates the Hobbits and wish they lose a game in such tragic fashion. They dont deserve to win out this season. Cheaters.

I mentioned earlier we needed Devonte' to have a huge game on tuesday. We also need the lid to come off the bucket for our 6 trey gunners. and we need Perry to continue to dominate. The WVU game on tuesday is a revenge game. Screw the conference title, this is for revenge. KU owes WVU a swift butt kicking. This is personal.
@HighEliteMajor I would like to stress your point that KU Cannot Rely on Mason and Perry, Selden and Devonte and Oubre driving to the hoop to create shots and draw whistles near the bucket. It is "fools gold" as well. You all have seen the refs swallow their whistles against KU with almost regular predictability. What does anyone think will happen in the NCAA's? Will KU miraculously get the whistles it didnt get during the conference like it should have?? Nope, I dont think so. Therefore, reliance on the drives to the hoop to draw fouls are also fools gold. KU cant rely on that either!
@HighEliteMajor Just a speculation here, I think Cliff might be done for the season. We have a lot of basketball left. Given the impotency of our post offense and the holes in our perimeter defense. Do you think Self might be more likely to rely on our 5 or 6 guys that can get him fools gold points with drives drawing whistles and with treys? I mean, since we have to assume Cliff is gone, what else can Coach rely on? Like you said, its simple math. No way we make a deep run in the madness with reliance on Traylor, Lucas and Mickelson... Our "black hole at the 5."

@BeddieKU23 Solid stuff there. I mean we have this top 5 kid who was supposed to be as good or better than TRob and he basically lays an egg during the season. I have to believe that someone has gotten into his ear. If he already has a perceived way out towards a 7 figure paycheck then why would he continue to do his best or buy in to what the Coach is laying down for his team? As you said, if the kid already has a foot out the door, we might as well kick the other foot out.
I dont know. He has not impressed me so far this season except a couple of good "break out" games. Even then, he could have done better. Its not like he was putting up TRob sort of numbers.
@Blown Yeah, thats true. Didnt think about that part. I would want to go where ever I wanted if I was a 5 star recruit too. But, there has to be some sort of limitations set. If we see 2 teams with 10 5 star recruits again next season, it just wont be good for the game, at all.

@jaybate-1.0 I woke up thinking about Nike/adidas stacks. This is waaay off topic but I'm wondering what are the odds that Coach Self picks up 2 more 5star guys? We have Bragg, he seems like a stud. I really am behind the learning curve with regard to the recruiting information highway. I have heard that we are front runners for at least 2 other guys like Thon and Ingram. Man! KU would be stacked if that happened!
