@drgnslayr LoL! Omg, thats just wrong!

@jaybate-1.0 You know Mr Bate, after re rereading this post, Im not certain if I feel all that more confident about our long term chances this season. I mean when you put our disadvantages into such stark a light, it really does make things look all swiss cheesy. Major bummer. Such holes probly wont be shored up, filled in, whatever until next season but thats cool, we are still on top of the conference! Thanks to Baylor and to ISU. I'll take it any way I can get it!
Ditto on " I love this game."
Rock Chalk!

@benshawks08 Very solid bargaining Bens!

@DCHawker Solid post!

@jaybate-1.0 After a couple days of work and sleep and work again, I feel a bit more level headed about what transpired at KState. Thanks to you, I even understand a bit more about what the problem actually is. Which is also good.
I wonder, is Coach Self recruiting for next season to try and shore up those holes in the cheese so to speak? I mean clearly we cant rely on Traylor and Lucas to miraculously get their ish together and channel their inner DBlock and Shady. Thats just not gonna happen. What KU needs is a great wing that can defend, rebound and stick it to opposing defenses on the other side. We also need a true big, taller than 6'8", who can fill the "black hole" as you so eloquently put it.
Do we have someone coming in that can match that? I really dont pay attention to recruiting very closely. So IDK.
But, Im pretty sure Ive reached my acceptance stage in the loss diagram. ON the the next game! Lets bring a beating to Texas! Hopefully Texas will come to AFH minus one of their players as one of their bigs got himself flagrant 2 T'd up the other day.

I think this should do the trick

Late Season Dissection • Feb 25, 2015 02:29 AM

@jaybate-1.0 Solid point. I was just looking at, Omg ISU only has 3 games left, no way KU can win out and come away without losing the conference battle. But, yeah, in that situation I think OU could steal one from ISU.
Here's to hope that KU can win out from here. I need an IV infusion of that right now.

@jaybate-1.0 Or Indian rain dance? ha!

Kubler-Ross model, stages of grief • Feb 25, 2015 01:08 AM

I think I'll be ok everyone, I just really needed to vent. How likely is it that we get beat by WVU and Texas at home? I mean considering the circumstances, I think the chances are quite higher than we might realize.
I dont hold any illusions about getting beat by OU for the last game. No way we go there and pull out a win. Especially not after getting beat by the mild kitties.
Im truly concerned about this teams "fight" and health, and Coach Self's ability to dig the best of his stuff out for the two tourneys we have coming up.

Kubler-Ross model, stages of grief • Feb 24, 2015 11:40 PM

As above topic states, this post is about obtaining closure and healing after a loss, ANY loss. A loss like last nights suffered by KU is truly heartbreaking to players, coaches and fans alike.
The 5 stages of grief are as follows; Denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. Everyone who experiences a big loss of something typically goes through all 5 stages and not necessarily in the order listed with acceptance being the end goal.
I did not watch the game, I had to hit the hay early cuz of work. Once I woke up and looked at the box score I thought," This must be a mistake! No way!" Then I got pissed off. Im thinking why in the hell did Coach Self not let our guys play to their strengths and insanely run hi-lo sets when our guys do not play that way as a strength!? What is he doing?

Should his position be in jeopardy because of his apparent inability to coach outside his hi-lo box? I have been thinking that ALL day long.

I have also been wondering what really happened since I did not and will not watch the game. I am literally mad at our boys right now. How could they let Kstate beat them? They NEEDED this win to help assure an 11th conference title and a better seed in the tourney.

This is also my emotional side talking here, but now I am feeling like @HighEliteMajor was right when he said this season was cashed, done. I mean, I really dont have the confidence anymore that KU can even win 1 of their last 3 conference games. They arent just in a slump. They are in an absolute free fall and Coach Self is letting it happen. He should be on the hot seat right now. I dont care what his record has been, he is failing this team and failing us.

Clearly I am not to the bargaining stage yet. Im not asking questions like will it be ok if we win the rest of our games?
Would it be so bad to split the conference with Iowa st?
Would it be so bad to lose it out right this year to them?

After this game, I literally just dont see them winning any more games. I think they lose the next 3 conference games they have left, lose the first Big12 tourney game and get bounced in the first game of the NCAA's
KU is 22-6 right now, add 3 and 2 more to that? KU might have 11 total losses on the season. one more than they had last season.
@jaybate-1.0 Your early prediction of a 10 loss season just might happen. At this point I think it is much more likely that it will. Especially with KU's current weaknesses exposed all over the place and Coach Self's apparent lack of ability to fix them.
We are done guys. This is no good. No good at all.

So you love the high low? • Feb 24, 2015 04:37 AM

@DoubleDD Didnt watch the game, Probly not gonna now. Had to check the box score. 13 3pta? 13? And Cliff barely gets anything??
Well, there goes #11 for coach self. and ku will probly be an easy out in both tournaments. smh. geeeez coach of the year my behind.

@jaybate-1.0 I get a booster just reading KU Basketball Prose at its best.

@jaybate-1.0 KU absolutely needs to win tomorrow night.

@jaybate-1.0 USS Nimitz. Thats one bad@$$ ship

@HighEliteMajor This is something we will not know the full story on, maybe ever. What are the possibilities after the season? Cliff declares for the draft. He stays one more year. He transfers.
Im no scout but maybe Cliff isnt ready and maybe he is. I agree though, the numbers say Cliff is a much better player than Traylor. What the hell is Coach doing!? You just dont leave your toughest horse in the barn when your trying to pull the plows. Lame analogy but yall know what I mean.
One thing I do know, I never for one minute thought they were final four material this season. I do not have that expectation for this team at all. Maybe sweet 16. Maybe.
Another thing, KU needs to win Monday night regardless of who they play or dont play. They need that game. Kstate is clearly having a down year but in this league that's not a guarantee of a loss against your instate rival.
Again, I am not holding out hope for a long run in the big dance. But, I am holding out hope for an 11th conference title.

KU vs TCU chat • Feb 21, 2015 10:12 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 Oubre is definitely gone after this year. Is KU going after any top ranked wings to replace him? I mean, We will have Greene back and Svi will be loads better next season too.

@Hawk8086 If Perry gets to the NBA, he's a 3

TCU Prints a Recipe For Beating KU. • Feb 21, 2015 06:07 PM

@BeddieKU23 I still think that Cliff comes back next season, until proven otherwise of course. If Cliff has seen film of TRob and other bigs at KU, he has had a chance to compare himself to those players that are now in the NBA. He has had more than a moment to realize he is not NBA ready. If the kid has a brain in his head and is not pressured by family to go get the big bucks, or having any sense of self greed to do the same, he will come back to KU next season and be a better player and draft pick for it next year.

@jaybate-1.0 Basketball prose at its finest. Thanks Jaybate!

@KUSTEVE I hope he is smart enough to realize he needs to stick around.

Pretty good read here • Feb 21, 2015 03:44 PM

@Statmachine Ehhhh, yah Im not even on the KU in the final four fence this year. Maybe sweet 16. Maybe. And thats IF Cliff suddenly gets a super heavy dose of Gamma radiation and turns into the Hulk, dunks everything and rejects everybody at the rim and lets no one by him in the paint. Perry eats his breakfast laced with Venom and turns into a Bane clone, absolutely mauling everyone who stands in his way. Finally, Coach Self gets a visit from future Professor X who frees his mind from the constraints of mortality which allows him to coach his team and run plays switching from inside to out and back again, all the while control the refs minds, giving them mental lapses on calls against KU and sharper eyes on calls against the other team.

If all that happens, then I might believe a final four appearance by KU.

@bskeet Well said. I think that is a stellar point.

Time to show some love • Feb 19, 2015 11:59 AM

@DoubleDD Man, people that do that arent real KU fans

@Blown Yep. Hinrich was my first though for guard 1. Wiggins for my 2 guard. No offense to 'Rio but adding Wigs would be ultra sick!
Then the obvious front line of Wilt and Danny and Paul.

Genius Analysis by Jesse • Feb 18, 2015 10:57 PM

@VailHawk I hope Jesse's posts are being made visible to coach Self. If they are, I hope he listens to them. I doubt KU has a numbers and bball analytics guy like J Newell on staff.

Putting a square peg in a round hole • Feb 18, 2015 12:22 AM

@DoubleDD Well, he either will or he wont adjust. We have zero say in how Self coaches his team, however frustrating it might be to watch.

Barring any unforeseen circumstances, KU should at least share the conference crown this year. Im holding out hope that he hasnt put a restraining harness on his teams trey shooting. Im hoping that he saves that particular trick for when opposing teams least expect it. You know, slight of hand type ish.

Distractions are good sometimes. • Feb 18, 2015 12:17 AM

@wissoxfan83 I didnt mean to offend. Olivia and Jason are celebrity KU fans. I put that photo up there just to lighten the mood after that tough loss. I agree, it is a bit racy. I can change it if it would make other people more comfortable.
I have nothing but respect for KU Buckets and everyone on here.

HUGGY WINS $25,000, • Feb 17, 2015 08:26 PM

@MoonwalkMafia "And for God's sake, Perry, dunk the ball! How do you miss that?"
My point exactly. KU was soft AND the refs were really extremely very obviously biased towards WVU.

HUGGY WINS $25,000, • Feb 17, 2015 08:24 PM

@wrwlumpy I know!!!! I mean we literally and figuratively got screwed by the refs. The horn very clearly sounded waaaaaay before the ball left that guys hands. Way before.

@jaybate-1.0 A couple times, I thought both coaches would pick up Techs. The lack of trey shooting by KU was baffling. I mean, I dont think I saw any plays run for Greene to get open on the perimeter. Did he even attempt a 3 last night? I didnt look at the box score.
Also, Im finding it harder and harder to believe that Cliff will declare for the draft. I mean anything is possible right? Ala Josh Selby. But no, Cliff needs to come back, he is not NBA ready.
Either that or Self is holding him back.

@jaybate-1.0 Oh my god. I had to wait until today afternoon to even wrap my head around that loss last night. KU could have won that game. Even getting out played for most of the game AND getting royally screwed by the refs, they could have won it at the last second. Perry gets the ball, drives to the hoop and tries a finger roll instead of going up hard for a dunk attempt and a possible drawn foul? Geeeeeez. Its just weak. Weak!

Ah well, when the conference started, I really didnt think we would win this game. But as the season progressed, I really started to think they could win. It just didnt work out in our favor at all.
One last thing. PAY BACK IS A BITCH!!

@wrwlumpy I still think either Oubre and/or Cliff will be back next season. Not to mention Svi. He wouldnt be eligible though would he? Shame that.

Calipari to HOF? • Feb 16, 2015 11:04 PM

@JayHawkFanToo @drgnslayr
Thanks you guys for the basketball history lesson. I really thought Wooden's nose was clean. Ah well.
I am also glad Cal isnt coaching at KU.
I wonder, what did Larry Brown do at UCLA? And, then again at KU? I also wonder if the alleged violations he committed would be violations today.

Oooooo-oooooohhh! • Feb 16, 2015 10:58 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 100 and 3

Opinions on KU women Basketball • Feb 16, 2015 09:10 PM

@Gunman I have zero opinion on KU womens bball.

@DoubleDD Nah, I totally agree. KU is going to have nearly its whole roster returning next season AND they get unlimited practices AND they get to play in that extra tourney? If ever Coach Self has a perfect storm worth of opportunities to get himself another National Title and a ring, next season is it. Bring every player you have right now, get that experience and beat everyone down next March!

Oooooo-oooooohhh! • Feb 16, 2015 08:55 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 Fine fine fine. LOL

Calipari to HOF? • Feb 16, 2015 08:55 PM

@drgnslayr I have very little knowledge of Coach Wooden's career. My opinion is that Coach Wooden did things the right way, all the time. He never had to vacate a season full of wins and was never investigated by the NCAA or had sanctions against him by said institution. Wooden is legend. Cal will never be.

Oooooo-oooooohhh! • Feb 16, 2015 08:52 PM

@Crimsonorblue22 Man! But I preemptively said I wasnt serious and didnt wanna jinx anything. Doesnt that count? ;)

Calipari to HOF? • Feb 16, 2015 08:47 PM

@JayHawkFanToo You have a solid point. I cannot really explain with any sense of dignity about how much I dislike Calipari. He smells like some rotten mollusk from the ocean, figuratively speaking of course. But, he is by definition, worthy of induction to the HOF.
Maybe I'll go visit the Hall since I live mere hours away, and maybe an artfully drawn mustache will appear on Coach Cal's picture.

Royals in 15-16 • Feb 16, 2015 06:35 PM

@globaljaybird Right on Global. Thanks for the update. I cannot honestly call myself a Royals fan. I didnt even watch a full game last season. College basketball is my obsession. But I did read about the Royals' successes and was proud of them for doing so well. Im sure it was great for Kansas City too.
I forgot about Billy Butler being gone as well. I hope they can find another guy to be a big shot at DH. Go Royals!

@jaybate-1.0 just under 12 hours til game time. If KU can break the press and traps consistently and have an average night shooting from trey? Theyre gonna beat up on those backwoods mountaineers.

Withey in the making???? • Feb 16, 2015 02:10 PM

@truehawk93 True dat, Truehawk! Withey's volleyball and Beed's Futbol were instrumental in how they both played basketball.

@Jayrawks1 I completely forgot about it! Yah, I imagine it would be about like Coach K's benefit with the Olympics squad, but just for this one season for Coach Self.

Calipari to HOF? • Feb 16, 2015 05:38 AM

@wissoxfan83 Wow, didnt know that!
