@HawkChamp Yeah, I like our chances in this game. KU can match UK with size, length, athleticism and talent. What Kentucky cannot match up with KU? Veteran leadership. Experience. We got this game by 9 points. Maybe even higher double figures if KU comes out amped up and blows the rim wide open.
I could see it being a close game because all 5 of the guys on Kentucky's team are fast and tall and long. They excel in transition. We take away their transition buckets and get them into foul trouble, it'll be a slaughter. We'll kill em.
The thing is, Doke has to be a beast in the paint. Noone Kentucky has can contain him. Noone. Not one. And, he has to make his effing free throws.

Who do I want shooting? In any of those situations I want, in order, DG, Vick, Malik, Svi. Those four guys are our best shooters. If the first and second options aren't open, go on down the list. My feeling is that DG, more often than not, will find his shot one way or another

@drgnslayr Actually UVM's mascot is a Catamount. Its a type of wild cat. Not a Bobcat. I was made aware of that distinction while I lived there.

Hey! No fair! They get two warm up games! UVM is a tournament team this year. They should be.

Anyways, it will be a good game. We showed UK what for last year at RUPP. It'll be our bunch of vet players against the typical UK freshmen. I watched most of their game against Utah and Utah almost beat them. Vet team of less than elite athletic ability almost beat UKs team of green frosh pro wanna bees.
If KU comes out strong and stays strong for all 40, then I like our chances. We can match their physicality, length and athleticism and add veteran presence to it.
KU wins this one. Udoka double doubles. DG Triple doubles.

I happened to be watching twitter when I saw a KU fan profile say something to the effect of DeSousa was absolutely going to be a Jayhawk in December. That got retracted as all the particulars of reclassifying have not been worked out just yet. But I think there still remains a HUGE chance that it happens.

Forget red shirting this guy. He gets reclassified, he is playing.

He will be our 4th Big man.

We need that extra big body off the bench.

Especially in March!

In retrospect, maybe we didn't do that terrible after all. After the game, I just felt exasperated because I thought that if we played that way against Kentucky that we would get our asses kicked by a bunch of freshmen. That's no Bueno.
But yah you guys, now that you mention it, there is no way Bill Self was gonna show his cards this early to Kentucky to game plan for.
He let those guys slog through this one. Correct me if I'm wrong though, didn't KU (with freshmen Wiggs, JoJo, Selden, Frank) beat the tar out of Ft Hays state in '13? And our upperclass guys got out scrapped last night. Plain and simple. They better turn it up 5 notches for the Kentucky game.

Looking back on last years season, I don't believe it was a ho hum season. I don't believe it was a disappointment.
We had a bad game at an inopportune time. It happens. Its the nature of the tourney. Win or go home.

Look, we had a great season. We are sooooo spoiled as KU fans. KU had the only player in the league to sweep ALL the major awards. Frank Mason. Didn't we have another 30 win season? And we got another regular season champs and another elite 8 appearance.

Yeah yeah, we don't hang banners at AFH for elite 8s. Its Expected! We expect to be there annually.

Topping that all off, Coach Self got inducted into the hall of fame 2 months ago.

Id say that's pretty F***ing awesome.

Back to topic. Is this current team special?

Yah it can be but it isn't right now. We just started.

IMO, what needs to happen for it to be special.
We need stellar play from our guards. We're going to get that.
All those guys out there on the perimeter are killers. Yah yah, Josh is gone and so is Frank. But what we have now will absolutely be able to reproduce those tangible and intangible factors to elevate this team.

We also need post depth and Udoka to develop very quickly.

That is not guaranteed.

SO, again, Can it be special? yeah sure, but will it?
I dunno. I just think we should enjoy the ride. Because, College basketball is here again. Its gonna be fun to watch.

Yah, it was a decent litmus test just for them to play against someone NOT the scout team. Udoka looked good to me at times and then also looked to be still learning the game. He has to post position earlier against Div 1 competition. I mean he is big and he'll take that power dribble and make space either way but div 1 guys will be harder to back down. And yah he has to work on his FTs. Has to. Lots.

Mitch was awesome. I thought all our guards were great. Vick and Newman and Garrett. Those guys are Gooooood!

Yah, DG just coasted this game. its ok. He'll be ready. this is his team.

@dylans I thought the time frame was that you had to be 5 years out from leaving the program, be it draft or graduation. So, Frank Mason stands to get his jersey hung in '22... if I'm not mistaken.

This article was a great read. Lots of really cool info about our Jayhawk, Joel Embiid.

One of my favorite things in this article is about how he has such a big heart and truly cares for the people of his home country.

Also, how he isnt materialistic at all! He just got PAID and he didnt buy a 20 million dollar home or a 500k sports car. He doesnt even drive! All he needs is video games and "a big ass TV."

Well, I'm glad the kid has goals. But he is NOT Buddy Hield. Buddy wasn't all that great until his Junior Senior years. Even that team as stack as it was couldn't knock KU off the top. But, dammit I have mixed feelings on playing MU again.

Ive been thinking about both Joel and Wiggs since they both got max contracts.
Joel plays with a deep seated fire inside him to be the best on the court at all times. Offense and defense.
Wiggs, while he can score with the best of them, has disappointed on defense so far as a pro.
I am wondering how big of a leap Wiggins will take this season now that he has locked up his max deal.
I am also wondering if the Wolves were wishing they would have taken Joel #1 over all in 2014 instead of Wiggins.
I also wonder if Joel will be able to stay on the court long enough to break Wilt Chamberlains 100 point game.
I mean, 15 minutes... 22 points, 7 boards, 3 assists. that's Fire!
