@whipperboy73 I hear your concern for Joel. I hope youre wrong. The 76ers are going to be very very careful with their young super stud Center.
@jaybate-1.0   Wow! You really don't like him very much do you?
Personally, I hope we sweep UT again this year. It would make me happy. But I don't really have any like or dislike towards Shaka anymore. He's just another coach on another team to me.
@jaybate-1.0 Maybe. Maybe.
Thing is, the kid is quicker than any of our guards and has a killer handle. KU better not let him in the lane and like you said, but a body on the kid, put some hurt on him, make him hesitant, scared. Get in his head. See if they can rattle him. Cuz, i don't think any of our guards can stay in front of this kid.
I may be waaaaay off base, totally wrong and I hope I am. I just know what I saw from that kid in one game against a basically a mid major team in North Western.
The Big 12 is gonna be a beast this season. I don't care what anyone else says.
I just watched OU beat the living daylights out of N.Western.
Wasn't OU supposed to be down this year? I mean, Trae Young and everybody else. Maybe middle of the pack in the league
But, yah I know, its N.Western. BFD, right? Yah, I know, any single one of our leagues teams could beat down N.Western. That Young kid though. He is legit and the rest of the OU players I saw seemed to know their roles around him very well. They were cohesive on both ends. Good defense. even better offense.
KU cannot sleep on any of the Big 12 teams this year. Not one! We go to ANY other teams house and we better be ready for a fight because KU has the biggest target on its back.
I really like this team so far and I think we will obviously be better up front with Preston and DeSousa. But, we will be very youthful up front. Very inexperienced.
Think for a second, Lightfoot is our most experienced 4-5 guy right now.
Udoka is coming along very quickly, quicker than I thought he would to be honest. But we have no experience down low. All our experience is in the back court with our guards.
Preston and De Sousa being ready and available for games will be a Huge watershed, windfall, whatever for this team. But we are going to take some losses along the way while we wait for both of them to mesh with the team and figure out their roles.
Let the second season begin!
Gonna be a great conference season.
Shaka has these guys ready.
Rock Chalk!
@jaybate-1.0 Dude, KU will be so deep next year that there is bound to be some attrition next season. Guards, bigs, all deep at every spot. Not a bad problem to have considering how short we've been last year and this year. But I always hate to see any Jayhawk leave the team.
wrwlumpy said:
When Coach Self was asked about this he said "It's a good way for these guys to stay in shape."
   No way did he really say that?? That's so funny!
Throwing a little shade at Sherron ;)
@wrwlumpy Yes! I heard this was coming! I really cant wait to see these guys play as pros. Both those guys are amongst my favorite Jayhawks ever. I look forward to streaming every game I can! Maybe even being able to catch a live game or two!
Dok was a Beast in this game! I just got around to watching the game on ESPN replay a few minutes ago... been busy. work work work, now its time for play. I'm off work til next year! But I digress.
Udoka looked really good IMO. Made some really good moves down low in the paint, shaking his man or even double teams for powerful dunks and nice smooth over hand hooks and neat lay ins.
He also tossed a couple sweet passes too! I was super impressed with his progression this time.
On SVI. I think he was also a Beast this game too! Man, some of those drives for dunks off the curl were absolutely nasty! He loves that lefty lay in, he loves that pull up from 10 feet, he loves that step back long range 2 or trey. He was showing all kinds of game on both sides of the court! I loved it!
Bring on the Big 12! Rock Chalk!
@jaybate-1.0 I'm stoked, amped, geeked & psyched for the conference play to start this year. Probly more so than others because we have 3 more players coming to the rescue. Sam's already here, Preston and DeSousa on the way, which imo makes us instant title contenders. National. Now, our big boys are a bit behind the game but they'll be ready by March and they will be more rested than anyone else on the team. So, KU will be deeper, more talented and perhaps even healthier than anyone they play against. I like those odds!!
WVU for certain will challenge us. They might even tie us for the conference crown. Its possible.
TCU and OU, cannot write those guys off at all.
People all over said the BIg 12 was down this year. Soft. Less than the SEC. Less than the ACC, Big 10 heavy hitters.
NOPE.
@jayballer54 yah man, on the threat of upset scale for OU, I got them at a 5.5 of 10. Its pretty much just Trae and then everyone else. Lattin still there. He's good. Everyone else, ehhhh. Not enough to beat KU. That said, I'm psyched to see both games!!
Til anyone proves other wise, the Big 12 runs through Kansas!!
Rock Chalk!
Hey Jayhawk fans, I wasn't able to catch the game last night.
Is there a link anywhere to a replay of the game??
I want to watch it!!!
PS. Good post @jayballer54
@jayballer54 Didn't read other posts on this but I understand he got his test scores and they were adequate for admission to KU
@approxinfinity Yeah, great story on JoJo! He is such a funny personality off the court and loves trash talking on the court. He is such a big teddy bear off the court and a stone cold killer on it.
If Jo can stay healthy for the next few years, he will be widely regarded as the best big man for who knows how long? Its so great to see Joel doing so well. #JayhawkPride for real
@jaybate-1.0 truth
@Big-Clyde52 I understand your concerns. I just have a hard time believing that Coach Self wont have them ready for battle by then. I expect the conference race to be tight but I expect that Coach will have them peaking by then
@jayballer54 I hope beyond hope this is true!! This KU team sorely needs backup. They are floating down river in a Rhib with no gas, low on ammo, half of them are battle injured and half of them are shell shocked. They need back up! Post Haste!!
If we still had Frank we would be singing a different tune right now. I guarantee it. NO player, guard or big at KU in the Self era has been tougher than Frank. Not one.
That said, I agree with your sentiments in a way. I think we need to temper our expectations for this team. I still believe they can win the Big 12 with time and some Self coaching up. But, that's about as far as I am willing to go at this point.

@approxinfinity Frank is better than Isaiah Thomas
@chriz Gary Parrish can suck it. I told him on twitter, if I was as wrong as he is about my job, I would be fired for it.
I bet he wont even drop Duke at all.
F**K that guy
@autohawk Eff Marsha and EFF WSU.
How many NC banners do they have? How many All Americans came out of WSU? How many Power conference championships do they have? How long have they even been Div 1?
Where did the sport originate again? Who was the first coach?
How many All Star NBA players do they have?
Are they effing kidding here? They beat us... ONCE. one time. BFD
@jaybate-1.0 Stellar analysis as usual. I posed this question on another thread. I'll do it here.
MIght there be a possibility that Coach did not prepare them as best he can on purpose? Sent them out flat on purpose? Not purposely losing the game but purposely using this game as a teaching point for everyone. He even owned the fact that he didn't prepare them properly for this game.
@RockkChalkk Come on man. Nothing wrong with Coach Self. Its one game. I think he may have sent the team out ill prepared and flat on purpose. Teaching moment for everyone. I could be wrong of course
You know KU fans, Coach admitted that some of this loss is on him. Poor game planning was it? Well let me ask this question. SInce when is Coach ok with poor game planning? He is competitive and a perfectionist. Maybe he wanted his team to go out there and slog through a game. Maybe this was a teaching moment. I'm not saying he wanted to lose. I'm just saying he sent them out flat on purpose.
Just a guess of course.
@jayballer54 Dude they can play and win vs Length. I think the zone is more of a problem for these guys.
@approxinfinity Yeah, you nailed it man. We looked horrible last night. We deserved to take that L. Its on Coach and the players. I'm just glad it didn't happen at AFH. Although, they better work their tails off cuz #16 Arizona state @ home on sunday will not be an easy game. In fact, it might be our toughest game so far.
PS. Why didn't Coach put the new guy in instead of Young in the post? I mean yah he is new but 6'7" 260!! Its not even close!
I was browsing the box scores of the NBA games last night. Saw that the Cavs beat the Kings. Checked the box score and Franks line was impressive yet again. There was a clip playing of the highlights. One showed Frank drilling a mid range 2 pointer in Lebron James' face after he switched onto Frank after a screen. Lebrons reaction after the made shot was fabulous.
Frank proving he is a badass.
It truly was a thing of beauty.
@approxinfinity Ahhh yah I thought Mitch sacrificing his body for the charge a few times was pretty dammed awesome. Big boy stuff
@jaybate-1.0 On Svi, he had another play I thought was pretty legit against their equally as tall freshmen near the basket. Svi stuffed the guy and it went off his hands out of bounds. Replay showed it but the refs called it off Svi. See Svi pointing the right way and trying to argue non verbally with the ref, then just stares him down and shakes his head no after not getting the call. I loved it. Ice cold.
@dylans Dude!! If we still had Embiid on this team, it would just be unfair. There is zero chance anyone would beat us this season! 40-0
Alright Jayhawks. Good game tonight. I have to say that I am impressed with two, no, three things after KU's win over Syracuse.
1. Bill Self's coaching ability
2. All our shooters lighting it up!!
3. KU being able to keep it close on the glass despite ZERO post depth.
This brings me to my issue and I'm certain I'm not the only one that feels this way.
I wonder if this game gave Coach Self the tingly feeling you get in your tummy when something spooks you right good. What would have happened if Mitch and Doke and Svi had fouled out of the game with a two possession deficiency in crunch time??
Well, we would have lost, that's what would have happened. I mean, not being able to put a guy on the court that is over 6'5" in that situation MIGHT be a bit of a problem.
What might a good answer to this potential problem be??
Letting that big football/basketball player walk on come up off the bench. I mean cuz lets be honest. De Sousa has to score higher on that test or he aint comin til next fall. Preston has to get cleared of all wrong doing and that's probly not coming soon. So our primary and secondary options for best case are seemingly no longer viable.
WE HAVE TO GET ANOTHER BIG. NOW.
End of rant.
Good win Jayhawks.
Joel is a badass. The block, kept it in bounds, basically a pass half court to Simmons. Ran like a guard down the court!! Simmons passes once and Joel Jams it in the defenses behind! DAMM!
And, did you notice who was under the bucket after Joel's throwdown?
Oubre.
@jayballer54 Get the broom out
@jayballer54 ROFL
@jayballer54 Yah I just saw that. We will be a killer team next year with what he have "presumably" coming back and who we have coming in. No reason we shouldn't be strongly tested early. We don't get a summer time trip to Europe or Korea to try and gain experience for all our Freshies.
@BeddieKU23 No way. Id put any other former Jayhawk that got a DUI or that beat up their girlfriend way way way above what Preston did.
@StLJhawk HAHA! That was a great article! I loved it!
@jaybate-1.0 Durant. 100% agree on that. Once in a generational talent.
I just wanted to voice my opinion that Doke didn't deserve that Tech for hanging on the rim after one of his dunks in the first half last night.
After watching the replay a few times I really thought he was trying to NOT get hurt or hurt the other poor player right in front of him.
I mean had he let go of the rim right after throwing it down he would have hit the ground or gone right into the other players right next to him.
I get that Coach Self is trying to tame the beast that is Udoka because, come March NCAA, everyone of those refs will call that Shiite immediately.
But I do not think the play in question deserved a tech foul. He was trying to avoid self harm or harm to others.
@mayjay I thought Coleby was a 5th yr Senior at KU?
Yah, terrible news for the kid. I feel bad for him.
I guess we wait and see if he goes for a medical "rouge smoking jacket" as @jaybate-1-0 so eloquently puts it. If he does, he'll be back. If not, he'll be in the draft.
I mean, I really don't care about MU the institution, the school, the team. But yah, I feel bad for the kid.
Every passing minute, hour, day without an All is Clear sign for Preston makes me think he is stuck like chuck too Mr Bate.
I wanna know what happened. We all do.
This is no Bueno!
@jayballer54 HAHA! YuP WSU getting spanked like a puppy RN (right now) Its kinda awesome
@jaybate-1.0 ;) I was wondering what you thought about this man.
So now we need to see a couple of 5 star centers, with the same prerequisites, commit to KU now, right?
I was looking up the word "futility" in the dictionary the other day and I saw a picture of KU football. deadpan
Ummmm. We beat UK without Preston AND those guys couldn't hit the broad side of a barn either. I doubt that happens again. And, we get Preston back soon, then Sam Cunliffe and De Sousa in December? Oh yah. Just wait. We are gonna be good in March!!
@jaybate-1.0 Personally I think with Preston, its just been some dumb luck with regard to the car accident. I don't know all the details but if Coach Self said everything is gonna be fine then I believe him. I think this stuff with Preston will go under the bridge and get forgotten about.
@jayballer54 hehehehehehehe
