This chicken is a suspected Russian bot. Lets kick this faulty program out of here!!!
My amateur verdict? Exposed.
KU is going to beat the fraking oil fields out of OU tomorrow night.
20+ point KU win in this game. I'm calling it, right now.
no mercy, no quarter in this game.
Almost finished with the replay. And, again you guys, I'm just a fan. But, if you drive to the lane to get a basket in the paint and drive for a foul and there is negligible contact, the refs aren't going to call that It has to be obvious contact, right?
I am just not seeing the kind of defensive contact necessary to draw a whistle on KU's end.
I will fully admit to some bias here, because, duh. But I am just not seeing the kind of contact from KU on the defensive end necessary to draw fouls.
@BShark Duke doesn't count!!! :laughing:
I'm kidding. I stand corrected
@jaybate-1.0 That's exactly what I'm saying!!
I'm mid way through the game right now and my count stands at 13 to 2 on FOR KU on drives to the rim in attempt to catch a foul or an And one. 13 - 2. Plus, in the first half, Bilas called, and correctly ID'd 4 other fouls that should have been called on WVU. 4.
Huggy just brought out the bazookas and grenades in this one.
Ive never been a player or a ref but if you wrap your arms around KU's player and get no foul called, something else must have been going on to distract those refs from chirping that whistle.
@BShark well, your going to have to forgive me on the actual time line in years, in terms of how long its actually been for such a lopsided foul calling game. Needless to say, its been a while.
JayHawkFanToo said:
Hold on just a second. We need to look at the numbers in context before stating as a fact that the refereeing was one sided.
The foul count itself was 26 for WVU and 14 for KU. The last 4 fouls against WVU were in the last 8 seconds of the game which makes the count for basically the entire game a more realistic 22 to 14. When you consider that the average for WVUk games is 21 to 17, then the foul count is not that out of the norm.
Now, we know that until a team gets into the bonus or the foul is not committed in the act of shooting then no free throws are awarded. WVU was shooting lights out from the outside and not taking it to the hoop, which normally happens when the outside shots are going in, so most of the fouls KU was called for were of the non-shooting variety while KU was not hitting from the outside so it was penetrating a lot more and when it got fouled I was during the act of shooting resulting in free throws.
Were there bad calls? Sure, there always are but it went both ways. Bilas even commented that fouls were not being called on WVU.
When you look at it in context it really is not as bad as just saying 35-2...wouldn’t you all agree?
BOOM. That's whats up right there JayhawkFan.
I will say one thing real quick.
DOKE!! That boy, he flopped so hard one time!!!
Yah, that was so funny. OMG. WVU guy guarding him pushes him, it wouldn't have knocked me over and Doke goes sliding on his butt.
Btw, I'm about the same size as a horse racing jockey.
I absolutely died laughing!!
@jaybate-1.0 I was listening to Bilas pontificate on the disparity during the game. He, or the other guy, said something like Nothing like this has happened in the past 10-20 years?
I dunno man. I also felt like WVU didn't drive to the lane to get fouls! The stat I heard was 6 drives to lane for fouls. 6 times.
I'm gonna go watch the game again and keep track my damm (sic) self but to me, if you only drive to lane for a foul or an and one 6 GD times, then 2FT's is all your gonna get!
Hey, I like Huggy bear. He's a great coach for the Big 12. Great coach for WVU, for the CBB game. Period. But he over reacted.
I mean, you said it yourself, there were 5-10 other fouls on WVU that could have, should have been called but weren't.
Devonte' said himself that they were getting fouled a lot more than were actually called. SO IMO. Huggy was telling his players to "bring out the tire irons" as you so eloquently put it sometimes.
Great quote by the way. Its on point.
My point is, after I rewatch the game and count how many WVU drives for fouls should have been called, that KU just flat out outplayed them. Even when they were behind.
Can you believe his FT's tonight!? 7-10!!! That's :fire: :fire: :fire:
And the big boy made some seriously big plays! We won that game cuz of Doke
Holy crap that's so funny! Gold I tell you!
@drgnslayr I see your point dude but Oh HAHAHA! Wilt would have scored 111 points on Okie St and got ALL the rebounds in the game. No other KU player woulda had to do Shiite!!
KU fans. I gotta be honest here. Just two games ago we got our asses handed to us by Okie State...at our house no less!! We have lost 3 games at AFH so far. That hasn't happened in the Bill Self era. Hasn't happened since 98. This team has such a slim margin of error, its not even funny. Sure, we played good last night but the defense won the game for us. Are we all 100% certain that this will be the case until the final four? I'm not. At all. I mean KU should have beaten them by double figures but this team cant do that anymore. Slim margin of error. I remain optimistic about our chances to at least tie for the conference crown by season end. I doubt we win it out right. I also doubt we win our big 12 tournament ( Sprint Center ) and I doubt we make it past the second game of the NCAA's
@bmensch1 CooL! Nice get on the stat updates!!
@chriz I would say its been temporarily misplaced at this moment.
20 years since any KU team lost 3 in our house.
I'm not liking this team much right now but I'm confident they will get their swagger back, whether it be this season or next. It will happen.
@REHawk Wow. Consider me impressed. Especially considering Steph Curry. I am actually doubting that stat for a bit.
Effing people on sports media talking about Trae being better than Steph as a freshmen. Sure, I'll buy into that. Barely. I haven't gone back to look at Steph's stats his first year but I bet they aren't as impressive. BUT, for people to say he will be a better pro is down right insane.
I am saying right now that Trae will not be a better pro than Steph. Nope. I just don't believe it. Soooo many things have to fall into place for that to happen. Its bonkers to suggest otherwise.
Some here may say, hey dude why so high on Curry?
I dunno. I just like the guy. I'm sure part of my feeling on this has to do with the fact that he had a pro game against KU and we still beat him in 08.
@MNJayhawk Can we curse on here? I'll edit my response accordingly. All fun, no malice.
"A Driveway Legend" Rolling on the F***ing floor!
I was having a hard time figuring out KU's zone defense too. Bonkers!
Glad it worked!
Bet Self uses this hybrid zone going forward to protect DG. (Devonte) I call him that, DG.

I'll just run down the box score.
~Svi still so smokin' hot you have to wear an asbestos glove to shake his shooting hand. 5-9 from trey is scalding, but 8-18 over all was a little less efficient that is desirable. He got a little wild in the second half--something he hadn't done for awhile. Right now, those occassional wild hairs are the only real flaws. 22 points, and 7 reels!!! Add a highlights block and a steal and he was ballin'. Svi clocked 39 minutes of PT.
Love it!!
~THE IRON MAN, AKA DG, went 3-10 for a second straight game of low efficiency scoring saved by 8-8 from the line. 16 points and 11 assists is a big night, however, and he put in 40 minutes again.
~Self let Malik joint the Iron Man club tonight with 40 minutes of PT. Why? Because Malik was playing Self Ball par excellence tonight. As a guard, Mr. Offense mixed up with the big boys and made 13 points, but grabbed TEN REBOUNDS. And NOW HEAR THIS: MALIK NEWMAN HAD THREE ASSISTS!!!!! Add in only 2 pop tarts and Malik was getting into Self's "coachgasm" zone. If Malik keeps playing this way, Self will play him 40 every game.
Malik is a bad man!
~Vick went 11/4 with two assists. Self dished him 31 minutes. On any other team that would be considered a big minute outing. But on this KU team of Iron Men, Vick was a girlie man with 31 minutes. He played pretty well, but he is not untracked yet.
~Doke essentially got a night off with only 18 minutes. 6 points and 3 boards with no blocks is kind of strange for the man mountain. FT shooting woes continued with 2-5 at the line.'
BUT he made 2 of 2 one time!! That was awesome!
~ Mitch Lightfoot took Dokes time to buy Doke some rest. Mitch was a blank on offense. But he was active on D and had 3 blocks, plus 5 reebs in 20 minutes.
And he was a fraking stud going 1-2 on drawing charges.
we should add that stat into the box score...~In one of those weird substitutions seemingly aimed at doubting fans, Self disconnected the cryo-ice tubes from Sam Cunliffe and let him play SIX minutes!!!! Sam got a bucket, 2 reebs, and generally did everything Self looks for, except for 1 pop tart.
~Marcus Garrett was quiet and got the quick hook after only 4 minutes.
I was surprised by Garretts no show to be honest.
~De Souza got 2 minutes. I had asked for 4 for the big guys, but Silvio made a TO and that was that.
Well, he also had a trey drilled in his face. I'm sure that didn't help.~KU shot 45% from both inside the trey stripe and out, which bets the question: why shoot inside?
~KU's FT% raised to 73, so they did not deserve FT shame.
All in all a satisfying win over an interim head coach.
LOL! Interim coach! you are bonkers!! That's hilarious!

Newman has been bringing the ball up more. Which is helping Graham rest a lil. And... I may get stoned to death here but lately I'd rather have Newman driving the ball late clock/late game. He simply finishes more often than does DTG
Cragar, I'm with you. Newman was Killing it late in the game @ Kstate! Coach has to give as much rest to DG as possible. Playing DG of the ball does that and keeps him on the floor
Kcmatt7 said:
Silvio looks like the most disinterested person I have ever seen doing anything. He doesn't get excited on the bench. He looks awkward at huddles. He doesn't congratulate anyone during timeouts. He doesn't look like he wants to be there at all.
I thought the floor for him coming in would be similar to Jamari. He would come in and make plays and just be really active. But he hasn't even been that.
even though I have expressed my disbelief that Silvio isn't being given more minutes to get "game ready" I think we should suspend judgement on the kid until next season. He should be in high school right now.
@BShark I said it earlier. That block by Svi was some PRO S***
I have to admit that I thought KU had a better than normal chance at not winning this game going into it. I really did. I know, I must spend the rest of my day repenting my sins against The Phog.
But holy heck those guys battled tonight! They all did!
SVI coming up big again on both ends. That block he had on that fast break was some PRO S***!! Pro stuff.
Doke making those two free throws in a row with fairly decent form!? OMG! I about died!
Malik just killing it out there.
Mitch taking an absolute beating and keeping on ticking! That kid is unstoppable!
DG being all like Frank Mason 3.0
Vick and Sam gave pretty good minutes too IMO.
Those guys fought and fought and would not give up. They wouldnt lose tonight. It wasnt happening.
KU is 2 games up on the Big 12!
The only thing I am confused about is why did Coach Self pull Silvio after one single play on offense? I mean, the kid leaves off Wade for a half second to go help on defense and Wade gets a spot up 3 point attempt and makes it. BFD! KU had a fairly comfortable lead at that point. Any one of our guys woulda got scored on in that sitch. That kid Wade is a really good player. We need Silvio to be on the floor and thinking free without the fear of an early hook.
Are you saying that you were the guy that walked into the dorm, wanting to give free throw shooting advice?
I'm kidding.
I wonder why Doke's free throw form didn't get worked on over the summer?
Surely Coach Self must have noticed it.
Not kidding.
@jaybate-1.0 Yep
Yep. I was floored when I saw this post on my twitter feed.
I feel awful for Billy and yet I cant blame the kid for wanting to bail out and do whats best for him. The NCAA screwed him and KU big time. This is absolute horse shit.
I wish nothing but the best for him and his fam.
@jaybate-1.0 And Al scratching his junk when he thinks no one is looking ;)
Remember KU fans. Trae Young said that he was going to beat KU and help OU win a conference title before he ever stepped on the court.
He probly shouldn't have said that... Just sayin.
drgnslayr said:
Devonte is capable of stopping a big chunk of Trae's game... especially if DG goes into the film room first and learns his tendencies.
Here is a clue: he should hedge his drives and hedge him tough off-the-ball to deny him the ball.
All we really need to do is WEAR HIM DOWN! Keep fresh legs on Trae and make him fight to get open. Wear him down and watch us fly by OU in the second half!
Another key is to make Trae deal with ball screens on defense. Make Trae fight through screens..... very tiring task!
Fight thru screens from Udoka!
drgnslayr said:
I think two key factors will help us deal with Trae...
He has played enough games now so his tendencies have been figured out and opponents are starting to take advantage.
He is showing signs of wearing down. That should be big, especially down the stretch in his games... and also in his season.
I'm not trying to be critical of Trae. He is an amazing player and he has my total respect and admiration!
Yah I cant be critical of Trae either, just because he snubbed KU and because we're gonna beat the snot out of OU both times
;) ;)
@chriz I'll tell you who. Bill Self. He will scheme and scheme and watch tape multiple times. All our guards have the size, length, speed and experience necessary to at least slow Trae down.
I say put Svi on him for stretches. That kid has grown the Frak up!!
He proved that he was a man against WVU! Beast!
@jaybate-1.0 I'll take a Captain and coke on the rocks ;)
IMO, the only reason Sammy isn't playing much lately is because we have another Big! That's it. We got Silvio cleared and now we have post depth...sorta.
When we didn't have him, our guards were our team. Plus Dok of course. And, no I'm not belittling Mitch. But we needed another body and Sam was the only one available. Point blank.
@jaybate-1.0 I thought Silvio did great in his time on the floor!!
HUGE WIN!!!
This is gonna be one tough game for KU.
Ok. Idk who Francisco Franco is. We got De Sousa! Bout freekin time. Thanks NCAA for sitting on that one as long as possible and even longer with Preston.
Off topic. @jaybate-1-0 I am waiting for you to post one of your WWI or II history stories mixed in with KU Basketball.
@DoubleDD Nice post. Love it
Dang you guys. That was a bit too close for comfort for me.
We need a Div 1 ready Preston and De Sousa!
HighEliteMajor said:
This could be different. Lots of buzz. Decision coming any minute.
Any minute! Meaning April 6th.
I'm soooo effing pissed off about this!
The man in charge of clearing Preston and DeSousa is an EX WVU AD!! I forget his name at the moment. I'm kind of apoplectic.
Conflict of Fracking Interest!!
@HighEliteMajor Thanks for expanding on press break and breaking strategies. Quite informative.
I agree on Sam. The kid is good, really good. We just have too many guards. Although, Coach might want to think about giving him some more minutes regardless so our 35+ minute guys can get a breather every now and again and maybe reduce their chances for getting "knicked up" towards the end of the season when we really need them on court.
Garrett over Newman. I doubt it'll be a thing every game. Coach Self is probly just doing what he has always done. Bit of "toughening box" Newman is good, really good. I expect that he will start more often than not.
Their biggest problem, to my untrained eyes, against the press is getting it in bounds. It takes them longer to in bound it than to break the press down. We don't have Frank anymore. I think they'll get better at press breaking. They'll have to!
Udoka IS a beast, that's no stuff. But Bamba has him beat on quite a few things. I'm not trying to jump on the Texas band wagon. I'm just merely stating that Bamba is better than Dok at this point. I'm pretty sure Bamba is a top 3 lotto pick. Dok still has a bit more work to do.
I loved our zone against Texas, I loved our trey shooting. MY GOD SVI can really knock it down! I think he may have went unconscious a time or two.
I know I saw Udoka block AT LEAST one shot yet he did not get credit for it in the box score.... WTF!?
We gotta win at WVU. Freekin Huggy bear just called OU the best team in the Big 12. I mean, he might be right, but still. Its insulting.
- "Frank Mason - I know, the Texas game is what I'm talking about. But he got his second start tonight. Best PG in KU history. Hang his jersey in the rafters now."
Yep. Do it.
Rock Chalk!
Hey all KU fans!
I might be in the minority here but my loathing for Shaka just decreased by about 17.3%
Hear me out ok?
Since Shaka has been at Texas he is 0 - 5 against KU. No Wins. NONE!
Just makes me laugh to tears! Its so funny watching the post game hand shake... Ive rewatched the game twice already. Shaka just basically runs right by Coach Self after the handshake. ROFL!
So here is my rationale for not hating on Shaka as much.
KU has beaten them 5 straight times since Shaka took over. Do you think there might be a possibility that Coach Self, by winning so many consecutive games, is saying directly to Shaka. "Look son, you got lucky one time. Once!" It'll never happen again. Not while I am at KU and you're in MY conference."
So we just beat Texas again, in their house! It was a really good game, I thought. That Bamba kid is a freekin beast. Dok did a good job against him though. He just isnt on the same level athletically yet though. The only thing Dok has on Bamba is sheer size and strength. Once Dok got it into his mind that he was gonna do his work early to get good position in the paint, Bamba couldnt stop him. All he could do was try and block his shot. Which he did alot. But, Dok had some good moves on his own.
Im proud of our guys last night for grinding out that win. That was a big one, even though it was the first one of the conference season.
Rock Chalk Jayhawks!
@Jayballer54 Yeah, TCU appears legit this year. When was the last time that TCU was ranked higher than KU in basketball??
I'm guessing never. Like, ever ever.
But there they are at #10 right in front of KU at #11.
@jaybate-1.0 I myself could not believe my own eyes. He played zone waaaaaay more than I can remember!
Rock Chalk Jayhawks!
jaybate 1.0 said:
Glass half full.
Shooting so few FTs makes us less vulnerable to whistle asymmetry.
Ohh yah! Dammed whistle asymmetry. Nearly forgot about that one.
@Jayballer54 Hell yah he's gonna go back to 3 in 2 out!! Hell, he'll be able to field a team literally ANY way he wants to. I still think he keeps playing a small ball line up next year too, Just to mess with the other teams. Its too effective offensively and it makes other teams prepare for waaaay too many scenarios if KU can play with multiple line ups and not skip a beat. They're gonna have that next year! Rock Chalk!
@HighEliteMajor You're right. Final Four is the precedent with which we should associate ourselves with every year. We ( KU ) fall short more often than not. But should we expect to make it that far every year? If we do and then it doesn't happen, it feels like a bad season. I mean, I get both view points.
We all know, at least I think we do, that the field of teams for the NCAA's doesn't exactly get done fairly for every team that gets a spot. It gets done with ratings in mind and with money and profits in mind. KU absolutely HAS to have every single domino fall in their favor during each game in the post season to have a Final Four appearance.
I'm not certain we should be judging our KU team and our conference on whether or not how many big 12 teams make the Final four each year. But I understand the inclination to want to do so.
@whipperboy73 I hear you. I really do. Something tells me that when Preston and De Sousa get on the court, our game plan changes, our team changes and our FT's go up. Both guys can knock down FTs. I think that both guys can bring that fire in the paint that we need to increase that number.
But if not...well you said it. That's one reason we will get bounced from the NCAAs early.
Not that I'm already looking forward to next year, but we will be absolutely loaded and I am betting all those stats that are down this year since we are short benching, will go up next year because we are gonna be STACKED!!
Lets see how this plays out.
ROCK CHALK!!!
PS. Why did you change your name? I liked the other one ;)
@jaybate-1.0 Sweet dude! I like your takes on how to beat Trae.
p.s. I just watched a WWII movie... Dunkirk. Pretty awesome. Made me wonder when we might see you post a war history lesson in relation to KU basketball again? I love that stuff.
