Our boys in Summer Leauge • Jul 19, 2017 12:15 PM

Next years NBA season will have a couple of teams with KU players on the roster BUT the Memphis Grizzlies will have Chalmers, McLemore, and Selden in their Back court. I think I will be catching a few or their games next year. Basically all of them are fan favorites! Cool stuff

Mo Bamba • Jun 29, 2017 02:55 PM

Actually the article goes on to say "He chose Texas last month over fellow finalists Kentucky, Duke and Michigan, which happens to be Love’s alma mater." So is he on Shaka's payroll?

https://sports.yahoo.com/texas-responds-allegations-brother-prized-recruit-mohamed-bamba-060646692.html ↗

In a rambling, profanity-laden 22-minute Facebook Live video filmed poolside, Ibrahim Johnson detailed the alleged relationship between his younger brother and financial adviser Greer Love. Shirtless and wearing a backward baseball cap, Johnson accused Love of violating NCAA rules by supplying Bamba with money, vacations and other extra benefits and steering him toward certain schools in hopes of working with the 6-foot-11 center in the future

So my question here is "who's payroll is this Greer Love on"? Nike?

Perry Ellis will play for the Minnesota Timberwolves during Las Vegas summer league action July 7-17

guess we will see? he is a good catch and shoot guy (or was at KU). He could play along Markelle Fultz and Ben Simmons and be pretty successful since they are not strong options at the 3 pt line! It could end up being really good for him and the 76ers!

Ben McLemore is set to become a free agent. Source tells @LegionHoops the 76ers are interested in signing him.

HOW BILL SOLVED THE RUBIK'S CUBE • Jun 26, 2017 04:20 PM

@jaybate-1.0 Because Adidas is not a factor in basketball recruiting.

How will Wiggins and Embiid being on 2 of the young up and coming NBA teams affect KU's future in recruiting if both teams end up in the playoffs next year? Both teams now have a BIG 3 in terms of franchise players as long as they all pan out? Just curious what you all think?

He averaged almost a triple double with 17pts 10assists and 8boards. He will be a secondary ball handler/second pg. I have watched him play and he is def a tall PG.

2018 Recruiting Thread • Jun 09, 2017 08:08 PM

@BShark Moore and Garrett are both PG's. Thus the 2 PG system is still in play.

2018 Recruiting Thread • Jun 09, 2017 06:39 PM

In 2018 we will have K.J. Lawson (which one of the reporters this week said was the biggest surprise out of the camp). Charlie Moore who we all know has been selected to try out for the U19 team. Marcus Garrett who turned out to be the HS Texas player of the year (which surprised everyone here in TX). Sam Cunliffe which put up 10ppg at ASU which I would have to say is solid freshman production. Lagerald Vick is a BIG question mark BUT I think he will be back (not everyone is going pro unless we win it all).

Garrett played PG in HS and will be an excellent secondary ball handler with Moore running the point. Cunliffe or K.J Lawson at the 3. You could go small and play K.J at the 4 and Dedric at the 5 if we don't sign another solid BIG? Maybe we will get lucky and get another year out of Udoka or Preston? I think our biggest need will be bigs though.

2018 Recruiting Thread • Jun 09, 2017 04:36 PM

KU's biggest need "BIGS". We are pretty much all set for 2018 in the guard department.

Next year could be the year again lol! KU will have a mixture of 5 star upside and hopefully 2 seniors as their starting 5?

Graham-Senior

Newman-3rd year Soph and 5 star

Svi-Senior

Preston-5 star Freshman

Udoka-5 Star Soph

That is one of the best, if not the best starting 5 in the country.

Anyone have a link to the box score from the first game? Frank and Svi played against each other

Svi - quick update... • May 10, 2017 09:52 PM

@Kcmatt7 The sad reality is that he could have benefited from a RS year since he is so young. Frank Mason had a prep year and it took him a full 4 years a KU to reach his so called ceiling. How old is Mason? I think Svi could be great but he may spend a couple of years over seas before he gets drafted? You never know Boston could pick him up in the draft and stash him over seas? I watched all of his U20 games this summer and he ran the show! He was driving, slashing, and chucking up 3s and didn't look anything like the Svi we see playing under Self. His shot selection wasn't good but he was a different guy all together. Maybe it would be best for his development to run the offense on a pro team over seas and be the secondary ball handler vs a catch and shoot guy under Self?

Svi - quick update... • May 10, 2017 12:13 PM

The best thing that our post players have going for them is that all summer they are going to have the luxury of playing against a solid grad transfer Jack Whitman and Lawson. Those 2 guys should prepare our young bigs for anyone they face on the court IMHO.

What if? • May 09, 2017 10:32 PM

I did read that 90% of the ESPN top 50-60 kids talk to agents and that agents are paying players and families. Its not a far stretch from there to assume that agents are getting money from shady programs to make funds available if a kid chooses a specific school. Is Nike involved? I don't know but anything is possible?

What if? • May 09, 2017 10:13 PM

@Kcmatt7 your theory only works if the shoe companies hold all of the cards. UT must be the best market to get the biggest contract in the history of college sports. Therefore UT has major leverage and could take its business elsewhere if the shoe companies didn't facilitate them in every way possible. I would believe Josh Jackson was abducted by aliens and has an anal probe before I believe the shoe company "conspiracy theory".

What if? • May 09, 2017 10:08 PM

Okay I still don't buy it. If I were UT and I am not BUT if I were I would say to NIKE "if you don't send me the best employees I sign with another supplier." If the shoe companies were really running the show then UT would have the best "employees" or they would sign with UA or Adidas and muscle them for better recruits. They would have more leverage than UK.

What if? • May 09, 2017 09:34 PM

@Kcmatt7 Let me get this straight. You invest 30 million at UK because they sell more basketball gear. You invest 250 million at UT because why? If I am not mistaken shoes and apparel for basketball and football look about the same. Fans purchase shoes and T's for the most part. I do not go out and get basketball shoes or a football jersey to wear out to the local watering hole. Sales are sales and obviously UT's market is way bigger if a contract size is any indication of the market?

What if? • May 09, 2017 02:38 PM

They why wouldn't you flood UT with the best basketball players you could and increase merch sales where you are investing the most money?

What if? • May 09, 2017 02:03 PM

UK isn't even close! http://www.bizjournals.com/portland/blog/threads_and_laces/2015/03/nike-university-of-kentucky-extension-30-million.html ↗

What if? • May 09, 2017 01:56 PM

The University of Texas at Austin on Friday extended its apparel contract with Nike. The new deal — 15 years, $250 million — is the biggest in the history of college sports, school officials say.

If jaybate were on to something wouldn't UT be killing everyone in recruiting?

Dwindling Big 12 Basketball • May 08, 2017 10:23 PM

2 summers ago Smart was hired after the 2015 class was pretty much recruited. He retained most of the players on UT's roster, and even added 2 four star top 100 guys to the roster with Mack and Roach. Last year he landed on of the top 5 star guys in the state of Texas and the other 5 star guy went over seas. He also added Andrew Jones who is testing the NBA waters and was invited to the combine. He is in the running for 2 more 5 star guys and already signed four 4 star guys. I would say if he can make it happen this year on the court with HIS guys that he recruited then the top guys in the state will have a different view of UT. He has only been there 2 years and signed 8 four star guys and a 5 star. I personally think things will come along and on a side note UT is possibly building a new basketball facility.

Dwindling Big 12 Basketball • May 08, 2017 09:58 PM

@BShark I think their Coach was a good hire BUT they could do better given they have the resources to do so. If Smart doesn't produce next year he will be looking for another job. Outside of the Blue Blood schools what coach would be willing to take the Coaching Job. Not who would they hire but who would take the job?

Dwindling Big 12 Basketball • May 08, 2017 09:46 PM

@Kcmatt7 I think the talent level at UT is perfectly fine. The fact of the matter they have the talent that SOME posters on this board drool about. Top 100 talent that will stay four years. They have 10 or so 4 star guys on their roster! What more can you ask for?

Dwindling Big 12 Basketball • May 08, 2017 07:36 PM

I am not sure that any of you have checked out the 2018 mock draft but 5 of our guys are projected to be drafted. Doka could be a first rounder if he stays healthy and he is not even listed.
